The enemy may shatter our bodies, but they cannot break our spirit... Even now, they advance on our homeworld to seize by force, what they cannot claim by right... We will shatter their dreams, and haunt their nightmares... Drenching our ancestor's graves with their blood! And as our last breath tears their lungs... as we rise again from the ruins of our cities... they will know, Helghan...belongs...to Helghast." "Sons and daughters of Helghan, your destiny beckons. Stand with your brothers and sisters, stand with me, and together we will be undefeated. The past is our faith, the present is our strength, and the future... the future is our birthright! Sons and daughters of Helghan, the path toward a better tomorrow stretches out before us. Toward a future that is golden and eternal. But our journey together must cross a wilderness of hatred and bigotry, a landscape of lies seeded by the venom of our old enemy. Our foe knows us. He fears us. But we must not underestimate him. The ISA, while they cower and snipe from beneath their veneer of civility and freedom, are soulless and hollow. They make their pithy, mewling claims of liberty and righteousness, and all the while, they look upon the face of the Helghast with loathing and disgust. The enemy sees us as abominations, mutant freaks fit only for killing. To the foe we are less than human, but they will learn their mistake, my people. We will show them the iron and steel beneath Helghast flesh. We shall cast them against the unbreakable rock of our collective will. We will make them realize the truth that the children of Helghan know in their hearts: that our race, the Helghast nation, is the next step in the evolution of mankind. When we came to Helghan we were lost, a broken collection of exiles on the verge of death. At first we thought our new world would poison and destroy us. How wrong we were. Helghan saw what was in every one of us, our strength and our indestructible spirit, and made it manifest. The great change was the rebirth of our people. A people fit to stride the stars and shatter our enemies. Sons and daughters of Helghan, you are the embodiment of that glorious legacy, the inheritors of the victory that we fight for every day. You alone are fit to forge the future and the destiny of our species. History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. We shall not suffer the irresolute and spineless men of the ISA to dictate our path! When you granted me the privilege of your leadership, I, Scolar Visari, willingly sacrificed myself to the engine of our nation. My only goal to bring our people the absolute and deserved mastery of their destiny. I am humbled by the magnificent example that you my people have set. The workers and artisans among you who toil and ask not for a claim, but accept the honor of your leaders. The soldiers and warriors who burn with cold fire and unyielding resolve never flinching before the guns of our adversaries. The teachers and commissars who hold the very soul of our people in their hands, shielding it from the lies of the treacherous and disloyal. You seek reward in service alone. Each of you shares in the greatest glory of them all. You are the true Helghast! Ruthless to those who oppose us, masters of those we defeat, unflinching in the face of adversity. I pity all those who were not born beneath our banner, for they will never know the touch of greatness as we do. And yet, there are some among our community who do not march with us. Voices raised in dissent and opposition. Soft minds that take the words of the ISA for truth! To those who bear the seeds of rebellion in their hearts and question the way of the Helghast, I say this: Would you have us embrace the very thing that rejected us? Would you make us lay down our rifles and surrender our armor, stark naked before a force that wishes only death for us? Peace is something we all desire, but the ISA would make it the peace of the grave! Shattering our nation's spirit and burning us to ashes! Beware the puppets amongst us, sons and daughters of Helghan! Know them, and spite them! Give them no succor or shelter! If any one of you doubts the fidelity of another, be it neighbor, brother, parent, or child, speak! It is the sworn duty of my commissars to isolate and re-educate these misguided souls. To bring them back to our fold. Expunge their weakness for the greater good! Our victory is imminent. With our hearts tempered in the fires of war we strive forward and take the fight to the foe. Let us never forget the duty that we have taken upon ourselves. Our enemy is tenacious and bold. The ISA dared to turn their weapons upon that which we hold dearest. Our cradle, our homeworld, our... Helghan! This invasion will not go unpunished. This criminal act unleashed the whirlwind of our wrath! Our guns never tire, and we have beaten back the foe! Sent them... running! The path we have chosen is not an easy one. Struggle is the father of all things and true virtue lies in bloodshed. But we will not tire, we will not falter, we will not fail! In the blood of our warriors comes the price we must pay. Blood alone moves the wheels of history. And we will be resolute! We will fear no sacrifice and surmount every difficulty to win our just triumph!"

Helghast > ISA Killzone accidentally managed to make the most kick-the-dog nazi-by-any-other-name bad guys in the history of bad guys, and still make them way more awesome than the main characters. They're just evil enough to be badass, and not quite evil enough to be horrifying.
John III Sobieski that’s a bit false. I loved the fact that I got chills every time that deep and spooky helghast grunt voice called out to his brothers because he saw a threat, before I even saw them, and then seeing their eyes after that? There was some major science of human behaviour that went into creating them. Amazing single player and great online game too.
@@dosdoomguy2285 Hell, newly formed Poland was discriminating against the Germans who lived there since before it was Imperial Germany and forced them out. That's not even counting the fact that the Polish started an armed uprising in Germany and all that land they held was taken from Germany because the treaty said that it was now Polish due to them fighting for it.
The Helghast are the bad guys of the series, and they do some bad things, but I would say they aren’t evil. They have legitimate grievances, their bodies are altered and suffer from the conditions of their home planet, which they were exiled to after a war to take Vekta. Now the Vektans keep the actually habitable world for themselves while forcing the Helghans to live on a planet they need to constantly wear gas masks on just to survive. Then later on the Vektans make Helghan worse, to the point not even the Helghast can live on it, and the surviving Helghans now have to live next door to the very people responsible for their previous and current situations. Who wouldn’t be bitter and angry about that? It doesn’t excuse their actions, but it does put them into context.

What I find best about this game is the fact it becomes really a grey area when people are confronted with things through a medium like a game. Hence such a large portion go for the Helghast side. While people think the Allies VS the Nazi's and the Allies VS the Soviets is a whole Black and White case In reality there is a whole part of history barely adressed when it comes to why the Nazi's rose to power, or why the Soviets rose to power. I honestly wish someone would make a game or a decent movie that really shows reality of something like World war 2, instead of scaremongering and hatemongering.
Unchained Irony I know. It is so difficult to try and explain nothing is ever cut and dry in war without someone yelling "Nazi sympathiser" or "Stalinist" at you. You're not denying the horrible things they did but they didn't just spring up out of nowhere like some Saturday morning cartoon villain.
Finbar Brolly Which is due to the scaremongering and hatemongering. People are pretty much raised to hate the Nazi's, the Soviets, The North koreans, The Communist Chinese, The Fascist Italians, the Francoist Spanish and so forth. Yet through all that Scare and hate mongering they forget to mention why they rose to power to begin with. While itis reasonable to hate groups for what they did, it is unreasonable not to at least see the context in which it happened.

This is one of the best speeches by any real or fictional leader in history. Perfect opening to an amazing game way ahead of its time. Killzone is such a great series until Shadow Fall. Not the worst, but a disappointment.
With work and struggling with food and bills my father never really played much video games when I was young but out of all the PS2 games I played this was the only one my father actually sat down for hours and enjoyed it and replayed the campaign. We did it so often that after the years went by it was having major issues and it didn’t work anymore. But just recently I surprised him with a mint condition one to jump back into and he was super excited. Such an under rated game that went into strange directions after the sequels. The first one was really ahead of it’s time back in the day.
Will anyone be interested in a prequel set before Killzone 1? Either as the ISA when they shared one home with the Helghast? Or possibly the helghast rebeling against Visari that he refers to in this speech?
+PlatanoGames Network Why would I want to fight against Helghasts? Rather have a game where you play as a Helghast and spend the game kicking ISA back under the rock where they came from.
I remember that as a kid, I always thought the Helghasts were the bad guys. But now, It made me understood that there is not bad or good guys. Everything happening is about the perspective we see it. Helghans sees the ISA as their enemies for forcing them to live on the inhospitable planet Helghan after their first defeat and they want revenge for this suffering they endured because of them. And the ISA sees the Helghasts as their enemies because they see them as invaders trying to get their hometown (if I understood the lore good enough). And the most mind-blowing thing about the perspective stuff, is that it also applies in real life.
i think Scolar visari is emblematic of trying to make your villains so cool that the protagonists seem like jokes in comparison. I mean who gives a single shit about the ISA after hearing a single one of visaris speeches!
I know the Helghast are meant to be the bad guys, but it really isn't their fault. Exiled from their rightful home. It really goes to show that if you push anything enough, they will go to any length to get justice or their version of it.
Imagine having a legitimately purchased planet stolen from you and your people are subsequently exiled to a nearly uninhabitable planet only to be branded the bad guys when you try to reclaim your stolen world. Yeah, the Helghast did some bad stuff, but when you look at the grand scale of things you see it’s nothing compared to how much they’ve been wronged. Honestly the ISA are the real villains of the series. They branded the Helghast as the evil enemy when they, the Helghast, were the ones legitimately being oppressed and wronged by the ISA and Earth Gov. Looking into the lore really changes your whole perspective on the situation.

Does no one understand that neither side in Killzone is right? And that these thousands and thousands of Helghast and Vektan soldiers are dying for practically no damn reason at all.
+Omar Jalloh The Helghast attacked the Vektans in Killzone 1 and massacred civilians the entire time they were on Vekta. They aren't the avenging angels everyone says they are.
Microzombie So? The Vektans planned on wiping out the Helghast by creating a bio weapon, TWICE. And that's not counting the Terracide in which the ISA genocided the fuck out of Helghan, and the ISA dogs were never tried for that war crime. And I wouldn't be surprised if the Helghast started killing civilians in Killzone 5 due to the fact that the Vektans demonize Helghan refugees on a daily basis, not to mention Shadow Marshalls harass the Helghast Army on a daily basis as well. The Helghast may not be saints but they are compared to the sin of humanity that the ISA and the UCN are.
+Omar Jalloh That wasn't the ISA that was the VSA, the ISA equivalent of the CIA. Every VSA official who knew about the bio weapons was arrested by the ISA. The Terracide was the fault of Jorhan Stahl. The idiot fooled around with unstable weaponry. Weaponry which he was planning to unleash on the billions innocent civilians of Earth. At least the ISA involvement in the Terracide was an accident, Stahl was going to cause a Terracide ON PURPOSE. The ISA then gave HALF of Vekta to the Helghast to live on. Shadow Marshalls may harass the Helghast, but Helghast agents and special forces harass the ISA. It's called a Cold War look it up. I don't care what you say, the Vektans and Helghast are equally bad. That's the entire point of Killzone. There are no winners, only survivors.
When a Game wants you to hate the "Bad guys" but you end up loving them cause they're Cool but then find out that they were really the GOOD GUYS all along!
It's incredible that some video game developers have better directions and skills with the camera and music then some movies, I only wish that they can directly develop movie adaptations of their games, a movie of Killzone 1 through 3 would be an incredible cinematic experience have 3 hollywood megastars and one unknown as the ISA main characters and have an epic cast for the villians
Fun facts, the Helghast bought the rights to colonize Vekta, but were forced off by the I.S.A. to Helgan. This game is about them trying to retake the homeworld from the I.S.A. The Templeton Institute did an in depth video on it and once you find out all the facts, it apparent who the real "bad guys" are.

Simply incredible!
Still brings a tear to my eye...

so its better that there is no movie about this Killzone Universe. Another fact would be that there already is a japanese movie titled "Killzone".
And I guess that no famous director or studio would spend the tons of money, the CGI would cost to make this movie a blockbuster.
Btw: At the moment all studios are at max. capacity with storylines like Marvels Universe and other stuff, they just would waste this good story of the Helghast.

Killzone accidentally managed to make the most kick-the-dog nazi-by-any-other-name bad guys in the history of bad guys, and still make them way more awesome than the main characters.
They're just evil enough to be badass, and not quite evil enough to be horrifying.
And they have better morals than the "good guys."

They are not.

@@miniaturejayhawk8702 I mean, I don't think Germany itself was slowly killing the people it lived in...
@@miniaturejayhawk8702 _I don't think Nazi germany was attacked by a much bigger enemy when they legally bought two planets and were exiled from one of them for the lulz of the ISA. Where did the Helghan nation killed other nations and races???
What I find best about this game is the fact it becomes really a grey area when people are confronted with things through a medium like a game. Hence such a large portion go for the Helghast side.
While people think the Allies VS the Nazi's and the Allies VS the Soviets is a whole Black and White case
In reality there is a whole part of history barely adressed when it comes to why the Nazi's rose to power, or why the Soviets rose to power.
Finbar Brolly
Which is due to the scaremongering and hatemongering.

I just hated Shadow Fall because they kill the characters way to early.
Visari should lived longer, Radec deserved more space and Stahl with Orloc messed all up in the end.
Kudos to Brian Cox for taking a short role yet rolling it straight into greatness!

And the most mind-blowing thing about the perspective stuff, is that it also applies in real life.
very interesting perspective, one to value indeed!

The Helghast died to defend their homeland, the ISA died for nothing except for fulfilling the wishes of their bureaucratic leaders.
Microzombie And by Helghast harassing the Vektans, you mean the Black Hand harassing the Vektans who might I add don't represent Helghan.
