because each hair strand has physics and is animated, that isn't possible in real time, nor those kind of self shadow casting/ray traced smoke particle effects
We finally have the tech to make games like this, but nobody gives a flying f..k any more. New gamers are mostly idiots who only care about fortnite level games running at 8k, 240 fps.
well you gotta understand that we spent 600$ on that console back in the day. If we didn't lie to ourselves and and say that the game play looked just as good as the trailer, then we would have a mental breakdown. We'd be like "oh my god!! Why did I spend 600$ on this thing??!!!! "
There are a lot of idiots judging this trailer by the graphics, the wonderful and exceptional in this trailer is the animation and physics, look at the characters how they act and interact with the environment very naturally as if they are real and look at the objects scattered from the explosive helicopters and vehicles how they fall on the ground realistically, there's so much things going on in every second as if it's a real scene, Name one game that has this degree of realism and quality
Keep in mind this was a pre-rendered trailer, so I can't even name Killzone 2 as a game with this much realism and quality. It was pretty impressive at the time even as pre-rendered visuals. But this is equivalent to a CGI movie. They didn't need to render in real time while players were moving through and interacting with the environment while having AI also moving around. Which means they were not bound by optimizing the footage for performance standards. They could add as much stuff and fidelity as they wanted without having to worry about a player getting 10 frames a second. With many players now expecting a minimum of 60 frames a second, it stops many games from utilizing the best looking lighting and things like that in order to balance performance.
I think a lot of people, especially young people commenting here and in other videos, don't understand what this trailer meant back in 2005. My generation had a dream in the 90s: games that looked like movies or reality. We were told this was real time in PS3. At that time, you had Doom 3 and Half Life 2 as the best looking games. This was something else, never seen before in any hardware, and you thought that buying the PS3 you could play it. It was simply put: a dream come true. You would go from Resident Evil 4 to a freaking movie in just one generation. This trailer, as is pre-rendered, has certain features that games today still have to master, especially: lightning, certain animation features and anti-aliasing. First thing before the rest: today's models look better (Horizon Zero Down, Batman Arkham Knight, God Of War, Battlefields, Battlefronts, etc), without a doubt. If you look at 1:28, you will notice that the whole inferior part of the soldier in front of you has very inferior detail and the textures are awful. Look at the textures in the floor. In fact, most of the environment and it's surfaces in this trailer look awful. It's not the same with weapons, machinery and facial features. This leads us to the next point. Facial animations and detail look even better today (Uncharted 4, Gears 5, etc), but mostly in cinematic scenes, not in real time gameplay and centered in some characters most of the time. In the trailer, you can see that every single soldier has its own facial expressions and detailed face, and everything is happening at the same time. Nonetheless, this level of immersion is not essential, and today is not impossible to achieve. Now, the big difference between this trailer and today's games, is lightning and shadows. For the last 2 generations, and even in PC, good lightning and shadows have always been a problem to render. They use a lot of hardware power. In consoles, they look even less detailed and unrealistic (Uncharted 4 has poor shadows if you look close enough; the same with God Of War, Gears 5. Battlefield 5, with ray-tracing in PC... Different). In fact, I think that this is without a doubt the biggest problem to achieve what we dreamed in the 90s. Obviously, with the new ray-tracing technology, lightning and shadows will become a lot better and even more immersive than in this pre-rendered trailer. Look at games in PC using ray-tracing. This is one of the greatest steps forward in the last 2 generations. Finally, anti-aliasing and post-processing in general. A pre-rendered movie or video can have all the filters, effects and post-processing you want. Real-time games, especially in consoles, don't. So, this aspect always allows you to differentiate a real-time render from a pre-rendered. The same thing happens with game's screenshots, in general. So, I think that this little (but immersive) details will, without a doubt, be achieved in this next generation of consoles (PS5, XSX) and, at the last 2 years of the generation, we'll see amazing things, and I mean much better than this trailer, especially if Sony and Microsoft launch "Pro" versions of their consoles midway. We'll start to surpass the "realism" expectations we had in the 90s. Games will look practically pre-rendered. PS6 and the next generation will, probably, expand the same features to more detailed and complex worlds, add more resolution and post-processing, render even faster, eliminating pop-up once and for all, and achieve perfect lightning. But we will see. In short, this trailer that impacted us so much in 2005, doesn't anymore, except for certain little things that will be achieved even better in the next 2-4 years in consoles
1:38 hilarious death, the guy is very busy giving you orders while wide open to the enemy even tho you don't give darn for him you not even answering to anybody lol

because each hair strand has physics and is animated, that isn't possible in real time, nor those kind of self shadow casting/ray traced smoke particle effects
This was jaw dropping at the time! 17 years later looks terrible 😂
I wouldn't call it "terrible". Outdated at some places, but still really cool.
fortnite definitely looks better, right?
WOW THAT ANTIALIASING
This is a modern day realtime barometer.
❤️KILLZONE R.I.P.🥺
We finally have the tech to make games like this, but nobody gives a flying f..k any more. New gamers are mostly idiots who only care about fortnite level games running at 8k, 240 fps.
i predict this getting more views since the other trailer got nuked
It's utterly laughable that Sony fans insist that Killzone 2 looks as good as this cg. It was a good looking game but not even in the same generation
well you gotta understand that we spent 600$ on that console back in the day. If we didn't lie to ourselves and and say that the game play looked just as good as the trailer, then we would have a mental breakdown. We'd be like "oh my god!! Why did I spend 600$ on this thing??!!!! "
lol I waited until the $100 price cut before sacrificing my wallet
The final game looked every bit as great as this trailer, and Killzone 3 totally blew it out of the water
@@rockys201 it looked no where near as good don't be daft
@@MrSapps yes it did don't be daft
Graphics is superior too. These idiots don't even know what graphics is.
I remember during my summer break in 2005.
No guys the actual game doesn't have the animation, particle or texture quality of this trailer
Why we cant get some decent in-game animation, in most games characters behave like lifeless zombies
Deception of the century
When you dont want to show real gameplay of the game so you animate and simulate the whole thing
Anthem at E3 2017
It was meant to be an internal tech demo and then someone in marketing thought let’s say the game will run like this in real time.
@@morganf7310 lmao
The game wasn't in 1080p either.
I remember how amazing this looked back then. Nowadays there are better graphics and physics in video games.
Mad how quickly animation and just the look of humans ages badly in games a lot of the particle effects still hold up but the fire looks funny
man this best trailer ever
I prefer this over what we got
Only in 2024 will such graphics be used in games
The goat epic trailer, playstation the best
MotorStorm had a fake trailer too at that E3, what was Sony thinking ?
1:38 hilarious death, the guy is very busy giving you orders while wide open to the enemy even tho you don't give darn for him you not even answering to anybody lol
why the fuck are there people from today's generation coming here talking about a 2005 game "has shitty graphics"?! you people need to get a life. back then this trailer looked good and honestly it still does. I'm not saying this has the best graphics but it was definitely the best for it time assuming this was made in the PS2 era. these few months ago comments just comes to show people are dumb and spoiled nowadays when it comes to graphics in games.
no , this gameplay in this trailer is the best in all times not just for its time. there is no games today have this realistic animation
Is it weird to prefer game release graphics to this?
im just noticing the Intruders have Mounted Machine Guns for the passengers
sometimes i wonder that this trailer was secretly made by certain developers of guerilla plus sony just to throw people off so guerilla could cook with what we actually got in game
I'm a fps type of gamer but when I saw this for the first time I lost it!
Imagine how many people bought a PS3 because of this trailer...
That was the Killzone 1 CGI trailer lol
No. This was the reveal trailer for KZ2 at E3 2005. Sony lied and said it was an actual PS3 tech demo.
So the game itself came out a bit different from this trailer. If we compare, the mission kinda has the same vibe, but... still different from the final retail game.
the mother of all pre-rendered cg trailer. everyone back then though it was running in real time lol.
Aun lo estoy esperando
tahnks man for the good quality ;)
So obviously on the rails, don't know why people expected this in the finished product.
killzone is one of the best games in the ps platforms. however there is one problem.
when i play killzone on my psp and its loading. it shuts off.
This would have made an awsome movie.
Best quality video with the worst quality audio lol
1:16 cart explodes... 1:23 everything vanished lol..
i think im the only one who is disappointed that this version of the rifle, with its slow fire rate, isnt the same as the released version.
Games in 2024 still don't look as good as this. How did they do this?
And people were pissed about the Watch Dogs trailers xD
The reason I waited for Ps3 instead of settling for a junky x360...Btw KillZone 2 was awesome, UnCharted, Last of Us, Resistance Fall of Man, MotorStorm...EPIC every one of them...waiting for their Ps5 iterations.
Lighting and particle effects were good, but everything else looked like shit. The textures were awful, and everything just looked so bland. Not sure why people are still jizzing over this.
Games nowadays look way better than this. The character models here are pretty detailed but we get this on a regular basis now, and the final Killzone 2 arguably looked better than this. Remember those amazing scenery textures that I've yet to see truly being topped
oh definitely, i would say Uncharted 4 looks better than this because of the superb art direction. People forget that more detailed graphics doesn't always been better.
Dude, this is a trailer from the PS2 era. The PS3 still had the Boomerang controller design at the time. Sure, games look better today, but back in 2005 this was something even PC's would have struggled to achieve. Compare this trailer with F.E.A.R. on maximum settings...
No one is jizzing over it anymore. Remember, this came out in 2005. We were still in the PS2/Xbox/Gamecube era.
pick a trailer from now that you like which is fake (e.g needs +20 years of hardware dev to look as good) then in 10 years comment how shit it looks, that is you right now lol
