Killzone was a universe really cool and dark at the same time, and the Helldivers collab was a good remainder that you can changue the setting but Helghast armour keep been cool as fuck in every game. That was the point of the game series IMHO. You didn't sympathize with Visari but you sympathized with the common helghast. It's why parts of Shadowfall explicitly show how the government treats its citizens on both sides of the wall.

"Would deny us peace and our rightful place in the universe." Once you learn all the history, this speech holds so much more weight. You see that the ISA are the real "bad guys" of Killzone. If you really want to know, the Templeton Institute channel did videos deep diving in the games history and lore. In short, the Helghast bought the rights to colonize Vekta, but as soon as it started to prosper, the ISA showed up and kicked the colonists to the neighboring trash planet of Helgan. They just want their home back and thats why in the last game the ISA admitted they screwed the Helgan and gave half of Vekta to them.
I didn't know the specific lore, but I was aware it was written as a moral grey area. It conveys the idea of the good people in the present suffering the sins of their past ancestors, while dealing with the evil people in the present who were wronged in the past. It's a complex moral issue people face in the real world. And it suited these games really well. I miss this era of linear shooters with an actual deep plot line.

You're not playing the good guys, you're basically lied to throughout the game, misdirected to see Helghast as this evil totalitarian regime that's bent on killing everyone. When in reality, you're the evil totalitarian regime that's fighting back against rightful owners of a world. There's no moral grey area, the only grey area is propaganda, how you view things. Id say the biggest takeaway from Killzone was don't judge a book by its cover. The Helghast have a very evil looking cover, but the pages of their book are just nothing but community, building, progression and unity. They went bad because the galaxy forced them to be bad, anyone would have done the same to get their home back.

@@sam23696A lot of quotes from the Helghast mention that they don’t want to exterminate the people on Vektra, instead believe in giving the ultimatum: leave or die. Not too different, but does mean they don’t want genocide as an end, rather it is just a (very brutal) means to an end. They don’t care if the entire pop of Vektra move off-planet to somewhere else, their goal is simply the planet they have historical claims for. It is why often people compare them more to the extreme parts of the IRA or the post-WWI Freikorp politically rather than WWII Germany. Frankly if anyone is ever interested in the Killzone lore enough they should also look into post-WWI Germany, and the rise of both communist and ultranationalist factions made up of disenfranchised veterans vying for control over the half-puppet liberal government.

Props to whoever designed the ships for these games. For a game from 2009 they really did their best to make their ships behave like the real thing, Flipping and burning like they do in the trailer is just awesome to see.

I know I'm very late - but even the Helghast can breathe without the masks, they just continue to wear them as symbolism. So I assume the ISA were able to vaccinate their troops or give them some sort of inhalers in case they struggled to breathe.

What i remember most about KZ2 is the banter. There was a mission where they had to blow up 4 towers in a complex. You're not playing the good guys, you're basically lied to throughout the game, misdirected to see Helghast as this evil totalitarian regime that's bent on killing everyone. When in reality, you're the evil totalitarian regime that's fighting back against rightful owners of a world. There's no moral grey area, the only grey area is propaganda, how you view things. Id say the biggest takeaway from Killzone was don't judge a book by its cover. The Helghast have a very evil looking cover, but the pages of their book are just nothing but community, building, progression and unity. They went bad because the galaxy forced them to be bad, anyone would have done the same to get their home back.

@@sam23696A lot of quotes from the Helghast mention that they don’t want to exterminate the people on Vektra, instead believe in giving the ultimatum: leave or die. Not too different, but does mean they don’t want genocide as an end, rather it is just a (very brutal) means to an end. They don’t care if the entire pop of Vektra move off-planet to somewhere else, their goal is simply the planet they have historical claims for.
It is why often people compare them more to the extreme parts of the IRA or the post-WWI Freikorp politically rather than WWII Germany.
Frankly if anyone is ever interested in the Killzone lore enough they should also look into post-WWI Germany, and the rise of both communist and ultranationalist factions made up of disenfranchised veterans vying for control over the half-puppet liberal government.

Except in the lore it's made clear Helgan was absolutely fucked over by Vetka. While it's not used to justify their actions, it's still made them far more understandable.

I know I'm very late - but even the Helghast can breathe without the masks, they just continue to wear them as symbolism. So I assume the ISA were able to vaccinate their troops or give them some sort of inhalers in case they struggled to breathe.

What i remember most about KZ2 is the banter. There was a mission where they had to blow up 4 towers in a complex. When you blow up 2, some says "Yo Serv what kind of person are you? would you say the complex is half blown up or half intact... maniacal chuckle" always cracks me up when I remember it.

Honestly man, i think this game has the same graphics as gears of war 2...I mean watch the intro clip of gears 2 then watch this and you can see that the graphics are basically the same.
I looked and honestly it dose not look the same at all, I think personally as much as I love Gears Of War 2, the graphics are much better on killzone.

As a kid, Isaw the ISA as America and thus the good guys, no question. Now as an adult seeing the war crimes America commits on a regular basis, I view this whole series differently.
It has a kind of Allies vs Axis vibe to it when you're younger and don't know any better, but when you actually consider the backstory, you realize this is not the case
