@MrJabloney I think it is just to do with their design choices and iconography. Pretyt much by the end of the first game (maybe the second) you realise pretty easily by reading deeper into stuff that you are playing as the bad guys. In uniform, and maybe in the way they talk, they could be seen as Space Nazis, but in reality they are nothing more than men fighting for their planet and their people. That is literally their only goal. To not be oppressed.
The funny thing is, killzone clearly has anti fascist/ultranationalist and militarist undertones but they literally show the helghast people willfully unified under Visari so how can you criticise something in which the people willingly want? Plus what do the helghast literally do after the dumb brute piece of shit Rico kills visari?, they fight even harder
@@battenburg6089 All the Helghan Corporation did was try to exert more independence. The ISA crushed it with such overblown severity and banished its people to a desolate hellscape. The Helghast just responded to this in an overly brutal way. Yes, they committed wanton war crimes, but that still doesn't make the ISA good.
@Dalen Lewin If only Shadow Fall hadn't ended things in such a terrible way. The series really could have done with a full game from the perspective of the Helghast, maybe even one going back to the First Extrasolar War.

Visari was highly charismatic and genuinely loved his people and his country. Stahl was a ruthless businessman only out for himself, and Tyran was just consumed by hatred. This is what made Visari by far the most dangerous and effective leader.

Killzone is actually a really good war story that emphasises that neither side is right and makes you think, how do you feel about slaughtering the Nazis who also happen to have been exiled and oppressed by your own government and the government that yours reports to? (Vekta being a big part of the UEG)

@@yuricueioo The original speech, before he said "we will SMITE the invaders from our skies!" gave a bit more context, saying something along the lines of "Now that they cannot rule us by right, they will try to take what we have by force..." They chopped that part, and probably some more that I don't remember.

I love the really subtle worldbuilding in the line “…as they sweep over our lands like the sands of winter”. Telling us that Helghan is a desert planet with so little moisture in the atmosphere that not enough liquid water can condense into snow, and so to the Helghans, winters are known for being more dry than they would be on Earth or Vekta. Also showing that they’ve been exiled from Vekta for so long that they’ve forgotten what snow looks and feels like.
Very casually mentioned in the speech but I love how much it implies.
Killzone MUST be rebooted, but we play as the Helghast instead of the ISA.

I became the most ardent Helghan ultranationalist after watching this video.
I can’t help but sympathize with the helghan. They were attacked (economically and politically) because the UCN became paranoid of their success (which they allowed in the first place). Then when they lost the UCN treated them horribly. So it’s not really surprising that they became an angry and bitter people who absolutely hated everyone else.
Well it's not that the UCN became paranoid of their success. The UCN were sick of the Helghan corporation taxing the fuck out of every ship going through Vekta. Since Vekta was so important for space travel, it was a critical strategic point. The Helghan were greedy.
But at the same time, the Helghan corporation was the one that successfully colonized Vekta, after UCN failed to do so.
Sooo, yeah. Just bad things all around.

@@carcotasu081 well they have a right to do so, UCN sold it to Helgha in the first place despite the fact its a critical trade route for UCN. If anything the UCN is even more greedier for reclaiming Vekta when someone else managed to make it work.

One thing is lack in the Killzone story, What about Vekta? After the frist war, they spearate colonies into two different people, Vektas who remained and those who became helghan. Did they want independence, reunion with Helghen, or fear helghast to side with Earth ISA? A lot of miss opportunity to expand Killzone story then just helghan just bad and ISA fill with jackasses.
Killzone 1 somewhat explore this with Templar being the honorable vekta and Luger the ISA cold agent, if only they drop the damn romance plot.
Cant believe the ISA muscling the Helghans off their own world (Vekta) then acting like they arent the instigators of the hostilities like what the hell!

@Daniele Fabbro Well, I've never played killzone but I looked at the lore. I am pretty sure mostly all helghans wanted Vekta that so he promised he would. I dont think he evil. He did try to help his own people by trying to get Vekta back that was stolen by the UCN/ISA.
Visari is essentially a fascist dictator, he speeches resemble Nazi rallies, and your saying he’s the good guy.
Don’t forget the fact that he also executed his political opponents at home. And who were THEY, do you think? Moderates? Progressives? Pacifists? That’s part of what comes with running a fascist regime. You either silence or kill anyone who doesn’t agree with you.
Visari is the unseen hero of killzone. An oppressed people, persevered, and through their immense power they triumphed over their oppressors. Sounds like today. We will take our land back. A land with no politics, a land where the law is the people. A place where bad people go to get buried 6 feet deep.

The thing that I loved about the lore and story of the Killzone series: Is that it’s not just your typical “Humans vs. Aliens and Aliens are bad” trope, instead it showed how humanity can just be destructive, cruel and worse like the Alien Invaders.
They should create a killzone series that gives you the perspective of a Helghast soldier. Like he tells the story what actually happened. The helghan are not destroyed.
They are just rebuilding their empire into a new game. And soon the universe shall feel their wrath.

@@oz2159 antagonist would probably be a better word for their actions up to Killzone 2 but if they weren’t stopped after that they wouldn’t stop at just taking Vekta back and forcing the ISA to fuck off. Stahl had planned on basically destroying earth itself in Killzone 3. However my reason for liking them stands, the Helghast are basically a consequence of the ISA’s arrogance and greed. Pushing good people to do horrible things

But they intended to let Earth starve - which is unjustified. The rest of their plan was pretty valid though.

Well they did sort of kind of steal from Chancellor Hitler, Helgan = Germany, and pretty much you can slide in / mix up and the various events of the fall of Germany , and roll with it. Sony/Guerrilla Games actually got some shit from the European press for stealing parts of Hitler's speeches for this game.

The emotion conveys a man who not only deeply appreciates the fact he leads his people, but more importantly, that he is incapable of taking a moment of it for granted.
As much as it’s his dream that is playing out, he knows that the only reason he has a stage to enact it is because of the people.
Regardless of the morality of what the helgans are doing, the political position they have is complete synchronicity between leader & people.
And it is scary to witness.
Not because of what they can do, but because they, of their own free will, refuse to be moved & will not be denied.

The ISA really did not think ahead. By sending the Helghast to die on Helghan, they created an enemy so hateful, so full of reckless vengeance that the situation is far worse than before.

It actually got one back on PS3. You can buy the original trilogy in a box. Unfortunately Guerrilla has it's eyes on Horizon Zero Dawn which is rumored to have 2 more games coming.
Besides, I'd rather they just passed the IP to Sony so we can get more games. The quality of Shadowfall was visually good but wasn't really a Killzone game.

The former one is much more gripping and powerful imo. and it actually makes the previous sentence; "as we rise again from the ruins of our cities"., a complete sentence.

Killzone Mercenary was my favorite entry of the series since you fought with the Helghast, if only for a few chapters. If they ever continue Killzone, you should be able to play as the Helghast or mercenaries and fight against ISA forces. The ISA imo are the true villains of Killzone even though you play as them.

Well, just like the Germans before world War 2, the helghast were pushed to the point that they had nothing to lose, thats the point, it paints a very different picture from the black and white one about world War 2 we were taught in school

Killzone is quite literally the Cold War in Space. Neither side is wholly good or wholly evil, but each reacting (perhaps even overreacting) to the crimes of the past, creating a cycle of bloodshed where all matter of morals and decency are thrown aside for short-term gains.
