This is probably one of the best videos chipping, honestly. A very flexible way to approach chipping. Not a lot of videos cover every area of the chipping. You've highlighted the crucial and simple areas of chipping: STANCE, DISTANCE TO BALL, GRIP, SWING PLANE, SWING MOMETUM. Some videos are too lasered in single aspects of chipping. This is a solid overall wisdom of the chipping game!
eric this is an easy to do and consistant chipping method and i use it. all your stuff is uncomplicated and easy to pull off. when i'm in need of some answers i always look you up, and i'm not blowing smoke. thnx, steve
from some one who has had the chipping yips for years, I can tell you that what he is saying is right on point. I have recently gotten over the chipping yips, but, it took a village, and lots of practice. Standing closer, feet together are a couple set up moves that will help..Thank you!
Eric im almost in tears typing this. I watched your video three days ago. I've had the chipping yips for about 18 months. It has reduced me to a point I have actually considered quitting the game of golf. Like I said I watched your video and I took three things from it that I put into play straight away. #1. Grip down. Moving my grip down the shaft. #2 Wrist hinge. Don't be afraid of a little wrist hinge, but with that said don't be silly and over do it. Use feel!. #3 Swing plain. (and what was most influential for me). Straight back on the take away is ok. Outside is even better as it brings the bounce of the club into play. This changed everything for me as my inside bias take-away made my leading edge dig in which lead to chunks and/or bladed shots.l I have also used #4 that I introduced myself. Keep the head still through-out the entire shot. Hips should move but head still. I pitched and chipped the best I ever have. Thank you. Your simplistic approach to the wedge game is so beneficial to someone like me. Thank you mate. Will be watching all of your clips from here on
Eric , i’ve watched alot of videos of others , good but explain pretty much the same. Tonight, i’ll have problems to sleep(i’m playing tomorrow lol) Tonight i really felt like you were talking to me. I saw my hole game situations and you pushed on a lots of warning buttons ... THANK YOU. What im saying is, keep it up on the way you say things! Simple, for everybody, and realist to our game. And it goes for all your videos!!
Very good and easy to understand. Just went and played 9 holes of practice. Got closer to the ball and more upright and it is the best I have chipped in a long time.
Eric, I've been playing for 30+ years and over the last five years my chipping game has gotten hideous. I have often felt like I have the 'chipping yips'. I've spent most of this season alternating between skulling and chunking my chip shots despite spending at least 30 minutes a week near a practice green trying different things to improve my chipping. I watched your video last week before a short practice session and I liked the results I got right away. Today I finally had a chance to get back for a second practice session. I hit 30 chip shots (12 SW, 9 PW and 9 8-iron). I chipped three balls in (and left a fourth 3 inches from the hole). I haven't chipped a ball in the hole in years. Thank you for your videos. They've helped me improve my game and I'm excited to get to the course again.
Why the heck hasn't anyone else managed to explain chipping in simple terms like this in the past. It makes sense and it isn't over-thought. I tried this and it works - particularly standing closer to the ball, shaft more upright and gripping down to compensate. You're some kind of magician Eric - thanks yet again.Keep 'em coming because my scores are going the right direction thanks to subscribing to your channel and committing to what you're teaching. Don't suppose we could convince you to move to Canada could we?
Haha thank you sir. I'm no magician, although I appreciate the kind words. Just trying to communicate some simple concepts to help everyone! Not sure I will be moving more north...but perhaps a visit for a golf school at some point!
Yes, simple is good. We golfers seem to have a tendency to make things more complicated than they need to be. If you do come north for a visit for a golf school I sure hope you let us know.
Man O' man!! slightly opening the clubface going back, got me chipping in my basement between the glass top tables and the flat screen TV. Wow... the control is unbelievable. I really know where the ball is going now. Eric!!! You da man!! Thank you so very much. Tree
Great video Eric! I was lucky enough to attend a short game clinic a few years back with a guy named Stan Utley and he had a very similar method to yours, except he taught us that taking it back 'slightly' inside and shut is actually a shot he plays to keep the ball low and running, but most of his chips are played with the club going back on plane(or slightly outside) with the ball well forward and shaft vertical to ensure the bounce is fully engaged, but yeah he only takes it back slightly inside and shut when he wants it to go low and run, he plays this from the same set up i mentioned earlier, ball forward, shaft vertical. Not to boast but I am one of the best chippers at my club all because of his teaching methods. I see a lot of his method in your videos also!
All I can say is, this is one "bad-ass" video. I bought into the principles discussed in this video and gave it try... Guys and gals, I'm never buying out! All of it...It all worked! Just an awesome tutorial on chipping and pitching, Eric. THANK YOU!
just love this video. simple and repeatable tips on how to chip more consistently. there is no one who can communicate this simply and clearly teaching golf on the web. superb.
I watched your video, after flagellating myself all summer for my terrible chip shots, and lo and behold, when I followed your instructions, PRESTO!, I was actually doing good chip shots. My golf mate is not pleased. :). He had an edge on me until I listened to you, and started doing what you said. Game on!
Finally someone agrees with me. I’ve been teaching longer back stroke shorter follow through when chipping for years, but I’m out numbered by the short back stroke instructor. I think you’re a great instructor and have your own thoughts and like myself go against the grain if need be. Like to meet you one day
Appreciate it Mark! We are on the same page....hard to find many elite wedge players who are shorter back than through.....very easy to find the opposite as you know :)
Eric, I have watched a lot of chipping videos and this is the best. You explained everything really clearly and in a simple easy to understand way. I have really struggled with my chipping, and you identified several issues I have had. You got it spot on. I loved where you used the grip to demonstrate how close to stand to the ball. So simple but very clever, I will be using that in practice. Thanks for your help. Best wishes from England.
What a great video. The tip of standing closer to the ball felt awkward, BUT...used this tip on my round on Friday and had my best chipping round ever. Shot a 79 so now I know how to get the ball up and down better then ever before.
It's all about chipping!!! Thanks for spending so much time focusing this. I'm so lucky to be getting into golf now, with all of this information and YOU sharing so much. I'm getting so good, so fast! THANK YOU forever Eric!
admire how you take into consideration for swings that don't really conform, if it work stay with-it some people can have different techniques that work .
Man ive been playin this damn game for 20yrs, and personally only worked this out myself recently. And you explain this as i worked out thru painstakingly finding a solution. People get lessons it will save u years & frustration. Todays instructors are collectively been through it too..Good Golfing all! Thanks for vid.
Best short-game video I've come across - thanks. Very pragmatic approach - I like the way you advocate trying different variants of what you're teaching - and inclusion of the importance of swing plane in chipping. In my experience this aspect is really a game-changer.
After watching your video, I went to the short-game practice green and followed your instructions. I was chipping with more accuracy and confidence. Can’t wait to incorporate the swing into my game tomorrow. Thank you.
One of the best chipping videos (and tips) I have found, and believe me, I have seen pretty much all the popular chipping videos on TH-cam! I also practice a lot of chipping and pitching and yet could never develop a sound technique. Until now...Thanks to Eric's tip about STANDING CLOSE to the ball, I just tried a practice session with unbelievable results! In pretty much all the videos that I have seen, NO ONE has ever mentioned standing CLOSE to the ball. I will say that in Jack Nicklaus' video on 'How I Play Golf', he does say he keeps his head literally above the ball on chips. However, Jack did not emphasize that point like Eric did. Try standing close to the ball, and you will find how much more accurately you can control the path of the clubhead. My Achilles heel has been the chipping department, and now I am looking forward to my next round to try out my 'new' technique! By the way, I usually shoot in the 80's but curse myself for racking up many short game shots. I am hoping I have found the fix that was eluding me. Thanks Eric!
I have fought a lethal case of chip yips for several years. I was putting from 15 yards off the green to avoid my panic of a skull or laying the sod over my nugget. This instruction has brought me back, not all the way, but really feeling confidence again. Thanks Eric. Good stuff. Especially for us older guys who have lost distance and depend on the short game to keep us competitive.
excellent! I've been dealing with the chipping yips for almost a year. Supposed to play Friday on a course with small greens and was already dreading it. This video has shown me two critical mistakes I was making. Can't wait to get to the range. THANK YOU!
Eric, I watch all your videos numerous times and I was wondering if you would share the wedges that you use and their bounce. Do you have any videos on short game explaining the bounce and how to use it. Your long game videos have truly helped me.
Thank you! I've played a mix of Mizuno and Cleveland wedges past few years....8-12* of bounce depending. Here are my favorite ones we did on bounce: th-cam.com/video/sHnzhGs7I4U/w-d-xo.html&pp=ygUcRXJpYyBDb2dvcm5vIGNoaXBwaW5nIGJvdW5jZQ%3D%3D Heres an older one of me working through it with a student: th-cam.com/video/HYZzGbvjyzM/w-d-xo.html&pp=ygUcRXJpYyBDb2dvcm5vIGNoaXBwaW5nIGJvdW5jZQ%3D%3D
Bro, as a fellow professional I ll follow your stuff and try everything...at this point I have to admit YOU didn’t not disappoint so far. Keep up the good work and get the knowledge out there. Moreover your explanations are easy to follow and well structured. Over and out.
Brilliant. Was a bit reluctant to change my technique as was working nicely and didn't want to screw it up. Practice range today so thought I would give it a go...fantastic. Very simple, easy to repeat and what a difference. Concerned about how close to the ball I needed to be but these chipping changes have made an instant and positive impact. Best teaching content on TH-cam at the moment. 👍🏼
Great video: clear and precise...next one should be on how to read lies and make changes in stance, take away and swing for chipping, accordingly...life saver
Eric....I watched your video last night and was on the golf course @ 5am this morning practicing my chipping & pitching using you tips. Results were absolutely awesome.....it really is that easy!!!! Thanks a million for making chipping & pitching so enjpyable..
I have saved many a par chipping close to the ball with elbows almost touching my hips, I swing out of plane which helps me to keep the head of the club on plane towards my intended target, your video is spot on and am sure it will help many of us guys out here - Many thanks for the insurance knowing that am on the right track!
The toughest chips for most are the little nudgers from just off the green. So easy to decelerate and flick the wrists on those. Best answer is of course to keep the hands going through to the target negating the flick. Sometimes a little chop down on to the ball works well on such shots but there is an element of risk.
Great video and awesome breakdown. I learned a lot in this short video. I cant wait to hit the practice green and see how much my game will improve this summer. Thank you.
Eighty two years old , game in good shape except have had chipping yips for last two-three years. Found your video really interesting and feel already it will help my game. Many thanks; can’t wait to get out to the course and try it.
@@CogornoGolf I was a scratch player for decades and quit when I was older for 5 years and everything you mentioned in your video is things I have thought about trying and hopefully doing when I struggled with chipping more than the long game' Everybody should see this video because it mentions every possible thought involved in being a good chipper of the ball.
Hey Eric...long-time admirer and viewer of your videos. You have a great teaching style--you've got all aspects covered, especially your economical use of words. You are an outstanding communicator and teacher, right at the very top on TH-cam. One of these days I might like to visit in person...dad taught at Lehigh in the late 60s and we enjoyed our time in the Bethlehem area. On golf, I'm curious as to your particular choice of club or clubs on chipping. What do you like to use, and what methods/techniques around the green do you use? I need to get a reliable system going If I could get back to a reliable chipping system, I'd score consistently under 80. Chipping causes me to lose strokes, so I need to get a good system going...I am dedicated to practice. Thanks!
Thanks, Pat! Really appreciate the kind words and support! I use a 56* SW about 80-85% of the time for shots....I find that most players need to get really good with one main SW club for the majority of shots to handle different lies, distances, etc. I then use a 9i or 7i for bump and runs when I have a lot of green to work with about 15-20% of the time. Hope that helps! If you search my name and "chipping" here you will see more on this...we also have a full masterclass with a practice plan...this is how I practice and what I teach all my players: ericcogornogolf.podia.com/eric-cogorno-s-ultimate-chipping-practice-plan
This video is a revelation. It succinctly touches on the major features of solid chipping and it transformed my chipping immediately (HCP 13). Maybe I should have known better by now, but I had at least four of Eric's "don't do" habits (feet too far apart; too far from ball; I swung inside 'the plane'; ...and I accelerated too much through the ball). Chipping transformed.
best tip I have gotten on chipping - the back swing mimics the follow through - thank you!!! Also, do you open the face more if you want it to pop in the air and go just a short distance?
Excellent video. Looks like you've overcome the chipping yips, which I've been battling off and on for years after it used to be the best part of my game, so your success is encouraging. I've never thought about it before, but think now I used to be much closer to the ball with a very narrow stance. That and the description of the swing plane gives me a really clear picture of what to practice. I like the way you cover good fundamentals and encourage them without being dogmatic about them.
Appreciate the kind words! I hope that it helps...as someone who has had the yips as you've mentioned the key for me was getting the mechanics corrected....the pieces discussed in this video along with learning to use the bounce changed everything. I also learned a lot from a guy names James Sieckmann if you don't know of him I would search his name..
👍👍👍👍👍: I love this video, Eric. It’s fantastic, practical & highly educative. I need something like this on putting to straighten up & complete my skill on short games. Please keep it up.
Two things that’s I got from your video that I’m sure is destroying my short game is that I take the club inside on the backswing and I have a closed face going back. I can’t wait to put all of your keys to the test. Great video and I’ll check back once I’ve fixed my chipping woes.
Man, right on time. My short game has killed me in my first two rounds, especially chipping. Thanks for posting. I’m headed to my living room with a wedge right now 😂
Great video. My goal in life is to learn the short game. Not many issues off the tee but around the greens is a different story. So difficult to be consistent. I really think me standing closer to the ball will help a lot.
Te-e-rif! I've never enjoyed a lesson so much where the pro said, 'Do what you want" Which is, really, do what works! Merry Christmas! I hope your 'Eric Cogormo Golf' makes you rich and famous. It's well-deserved. pk .
Eric I played a round after watching this video yesterday and had my best day chipping. Now I need a video for a pitch from 25-40 yards out. My chipping was amazing yesterday thanks man!!!!
Eric, your videos are great man and I just want to say first that I have learned a lot from your videos and I am getting much closer to getting myself to a consistent 3 or 4 HDCP. I don't want to stir the pot, and I know with chipping there is a lot of feel involved, so to each his own, but I do not completely agree that a player must have to match the hinge on both ends of the chipping swing as this can be very dangerous for an amateur playing that is working to break 100, 90, and even 80. One prime example of this is from one of the best players to ever chip, Phil Mickelson with the hinge and hold method. He introduces a lot of hinge and almost has none coming back through the the ball and preaches the leading edge to stay under the ball to hit clean, crisp chips. If teaching players to hinge a bunch on the way back and hinge a lot going through the ball, they will not become consistent at hitting flush chips and that can introduce skulling and hitting fat shots. I caution amateur players with adding hinge to the follow through as it takes high skill to pull this off. I do agree that in some cases, hinging on the way through is necessary depending on the shot trajectory, but the average player does not need to do that to shoot under an 80. Obviously, I am not a scratch golfer yet, but I am working to get there. Thank you for all of your videos and the detail you put into them. I just want to keep looking out for my fellow amateurs trying to learn the game at a more simple level.
Eric - I just love the way you explain the details in your teaching! Thanks for your time. 😊🙏
Appreciate that :) Hope it helps!
Great 100% Tips/ Points

Thanks Eric. My chipping/pitching accuracy has gone from 50% to 90% in just 2 rounds since employing the techniques in this video.
Love to hear this, Warren!
Incredible density of highest level info. Useful and simple. Just like it should be when a smart person explains complicated things. Appreciate.
My pleasure...appreciate ya
Great chipping advice Eric! Simple and easy to understand and take to the course.

Appreciate it!
Just ordered two new Vokey wedges with 12 degrees of bounce...cannot wait for them to arrive so I can practice this technique! Thanks EC!
Nice Harry! Hope your practice goes great!
This one short video has transformed my chipping in 10 minutes. Unbelievable.. I hope you read this Eric. Thank you so much.
Glad to hear that my friend...my pleasure!
After watching your video, I went to the short-game practice green and followed your instructions. I was chipping with more accuracy and confidence. Can’t wait to incorporate the swing into my game tomorrow. Thank you.
Love to hear that!
Excellent instruction. I followed the direction and it worked perfect. Surprised that none of the pros I had lessons with gave me these instructions.
Thanks, Tarek! Glad it helped!
As a newbie I found video a lot easer to understand than the others I have watched. Ty very nice tips.
Thanks, David! Hope it helps my friend!
Best video I've seen on chipping around the green....makes good sense, can't wait to apply, simplify your focus
Thanks, Mario!

Thanks Eric, I will use your technique against my golf buddies😁. I may show it to my wife so she would love me more.
Our pleasure, Andrew! Hope it helps!
Thank You, Thank You, Thank You! I’ll watch as many chipping videos that you want to make.
Lol appreciate the support Betsy! Hope these help!
@@CogornoGolf I just went out and played 9 and used your instructions and it worked like a charm. Thank You! I love you Lol! 😆
You are quite welcome :)
The best chipping video on TH-cam!!! Thanks Buddy!
You got it! Appreciate the kind words!
Very clear and solid explanation on chip shots.
Thanks, Steffi!
Bro, as a fellow professional I ll follow your stuff and try everything...at this point I have to admit YOU didn’t not disappoint so far. Keep up the good work and get the knowledge out there. Moreover your explanations are easy to follow and well structured. Over and out.
Thanks, man! Appreciate that....hope you are doing well!
Thanks, Bruce! Appreciate the kind words!
This is excellent advice. Not only do I value the content, but your format is concise which leads to easy memory recall. Thanks for this.
My pleasure...appreciate the kind words!
Hi Eric, very good video. I like the way you explain the basics of chipping. Simple and modest. Mick
Thank you sir, appreciate it!
Great video: clear and precise...next one should be on how to read lies and make changes in stance, take away and swing for chipping, accordingly...life saver
Agreed!
We did some on different slopes your may enjoy here: th-cam.com/video/IOUQLsx27gE/w-d-xo.html
I’ve watched a lot of chipping vids on TH-cam. This is probably the best.
Thanks...appreciate it!
Eric....I watched your video last night and was on the golf course @ 5am this morning practicing my chipping & pitching using you tips. Results were absolutely awesome.....it really is that easy!!!! Thanks a million for making chipping & pitching so enjpyable..
MY pleasure my friend. Glad it helped!
Yikes..good stuff
I have saved many a par chipping close to the ball with elbows almost touching my hips, I swing out of plane which helps me to keep the head of the club on plane towards my intended target, your video is spot on and am sure it will help many of us guys out here - Many thanks for the insurance knowing that am on the right track!
My pleasure Alan...happy to help
Brilliant, well thought out clear and to the point excellent instruction. The more chipping and pitching videos the better, thank you great work.
Thanks, Lloyd...appreciate it!
I have really been enjoying and learning from your videos. Thank you for the info and great presentation!
Appreciate it, Matthew!
The toughest chips for most are the little nudgers from just off the green. So easy to decelerate and flick the wrists on those. Best answer is of course to keep the hands going through to the target negating the flick. Sometimes a little chop down on to the ball works well on such shots but there is an element of risk.
Yup! Really depends on lie too....if you don't feel comfortable with a short swing like that you can open face more so you can swing longer.
This stuff is gold. Been struggling greenside lately, can't wait to practice this.
Thanks!!
I think there are more instructors of golf than golfers... with that said, this guy does a very good job and has great info.
Thanks :)
Great video and awesome breakdown. I learned a lot in this short video. I cant wait to hit the practice green and see how much my game will improve this summer. Thank you.
Hope it serves you well, Willy!
Great video...Awesome explanations!!! You made it very easy to understand...got a fan!!
Thanks, Jeremy....appreciate it!
Eighty two years old , game in good shape except have had chipping yips for last two-three years. Found your video really interesting and feel already it will help my game. Many thanks; can’t wait to get out to the course and try it.
Awesome, thanks Gary. Hope it helps, keep me updated!
Just chipped in for par from 15 yards out after watching this video and putting these tips into practice. Came back to say Thanks!
Excellent! Appreciate you watching my friend!
Love the chipping videos, I vote for more of them!
We'll do more! Will be lots on membership site coming out soon
Best chipping tips I have ever seen. Something I struggle with a bit
Thanks Steve! Hope this helps ya!
Great video! Wish I had watched it much sooner.
Thanks Phil! :)
Spot on Eric!! Too much follow threw can limit control, for the high flop shot, yes the follow threw is BIG!
Yep!
If you search my name and "chipping" here you will see more on this...we also have a full masterclass with a practice plan...this is how I practice and what I teach all my players:

Have been having major issues chipping and after watching this I hit a couple balls into a bucket at home and it's night and day. Subscribed.
Excellent! Love to hear that!
Great explanation of chipping. Thank you
Thanks, Ian! Our pleasure!
Happy to hear that, my friend!!
Thanks Eric. Superb lesson here. Great instruction. Now, back to the practice area. Mastering chipping takes hours of practice.
Thanks, Pat! Hope this helps my friend!
Very comprehensive and helpful 👍🏌️⛳️
Beautiful!
You are on a roll coach! Another great lesson with excellent tips. Thanks!
Thanks, Kall. Appreciate it man!
This is an excellent video on short game techniques....Thank you Eric!!!
Thanks, Tony!
300k+ views in 10 months... I'd say we want chipping/pitching videos. Thank you for your videos, they are awesome.
:) Thanks, Jeff! Appreciate it!
best tip I have gotten on chipping - the back swing mimics the follow through - thank you!!! Also, do you open the face more if you want it to pop in the air and go just a short distance?
Thanks, Debbie!
Yes!

Thanks!
We have some on here on putting, not a ton though. Lot's more on Cogornogolf.com if you want to check that out
Really this where one of the better videos I have seen in the short game.
Thank you :)
best instruction I have ever seen. Thanks
Thank you :)
Two things that’s I got from your video that I’m sure is destroying my short game is that I take the club inside on the backswing and I have a closed face going back. I can’t wait to put all of your keys to the test. Great video and I’ll check back once I’ve fixed my chipping woes.
Good stuff....yes inside and shut face can lead to problems!
Excellent instruction. Thank you.
Thanks Darrell! Our pleasure!
So easy to understand.
This guy is good.
Thanks, Jon!
Awesome ty Eric and crew!!!
You got it my friend!
Great stuff! Thank you, Eric!
Appreciate it--our pleasure!
Great video. Sensible Well explained Demonstrated No time wasted waffling. Highly recommend this format!!
Thanks, David!
So pedagogical and clear. Thank you!
My pleasure :) Hope it helps!
Man, right on time. My short game has killed me in my first two rounds, especially chipping. Thanks for posting. I’m headed to my living room with a wedge right now 😂
:)
@@CogornoGolf Eric. I love your videos.. What software to you use to edit the videos.. Its great!
Chipping is THE most important part of the game. Love these. Took 8 strokes off my last 9 hole round. Keep them coming.
I think it’s also the most fun to practice and get creative
Very useful video! I struggled with my chipping and immediately after I started to chip according to some advises, I improved a lot. Thanks, Eric.
My pleasure, my friend!
Great video. My goal in life is to learn the short game. Not many issues off the tee but around the greens is a different story. So difficult to be consistent. I really think me standing closer to the ball will help a lot.
You can definitely fix all that....short game is easy with good technique! If you can't figure it out come see me
Te-e-rif! I've never enjoyed a lesson so much where the pro said, 'Do what you want" Which is, really, do what works! Merry Christmas! I hope your 'Eric Cogormo Golf' makes you rich and famous. It's well-deserved. pk .
Thanks, Peter! Appreciate the kind words, my friend! Merry Christmas to you as well!
Eric I played a round after watching this video yesterday and had my best day chipping. Now I need a video for a pitch from 25-40 yards out. My chipping was amazing yesterday thanks man!!!!
:) Happy to help
Spot on
Eric, your videos are great man and I just want to say first that I have learned a lot from your videos and I am getting much closer to getting myself to a consistent 3 or 4 HDCP.
Thanks for your feedback, Sam!
