    Creating space for the hips in the second part of the back swing, for me also means creating space for me in the downswing to place my right elbow in front of my right hip so I can get my hands over the ball when club shaft is parallel to the ground in the down swing. Does that make sense?

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes! You can also drop your trail foot back 2-3 inches at setup. This sort of pre-clears the trail hip and gives us more room later in the downswing for our trail arm to get in front of our trail hip👍

    Eric....
    very good!
    I noticed this with Hogan......he usually did the opposite of what he wanted to do in the downswing....in the backswing.
    He cupped his wrists then bowed into impact
    He had right arm on top at address, then in close and under at impact
    This " be tall at address" to promote the proper time, later, to keep the hips back and from early extending, is very similar IMO.

    Is it the chicken or the egg? Am I early extending because of a steep downswing (making space), or am I swinging steeply into the ball because of the extension (reaching for the ball)? I think the latter? Looking at how deep my hips get early, this video really hits the mark.

    I'm watching this and it makes perfect sense - for flat bellies - like yourselves. I'm betting many of your students are overweight. As a consequence they have to bend forward more to accommodate a belly - then they sit back further to balance themselves. So, then the butt gets way back and I think that locks the hips making it difficult to turn on the hip joints. The standup and flip is the only way to keep from burying the club way behind the ball. Maybe y'all could show us how heavy people have to setup and swing. I think it's way different than most Tour Pros today. Maybe the "old fashioned" swing of the 70s and 80s - was for a group that was much less physically fit? It would be fun to see y'all put on a Fat Suit and figure out how to swing well. I can say all this - I'm a fat guy myself.

  • @HolyGrailOfGolf

    Early extension is caused by a basic misunderstanding of the golf swing. People with EE believe they need to return to their address position at impact. They believe their downswing is 100% reverse from the backswing when in reality the downswing is only 50% of the downswing. The added turn of the body returns the club to the ball with a 50% downswing. EE is caused by forcing the club downward instead of swinging it level or perpendicular to the spine angle.

      If only it were that simple. There’s many great players, pros, better than scratch, etc. people who have gone to school for golf, people who have been studying the game their entire lives, etc. & still EE. Some peoples bodies just work better with some EE, like Jimmy Walker for example.

    • @HolyGrailOfGolf
      @HolyGrailOfGolf หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TheWedgeWizard But it is that easy when you have the proper intention. A swing with the proper intention will create what's called the "heavy head" like Tommy Fleetwood. A swing with the wrong intention will cause EE.

    • @TheWedgeWizard
      @TheWedgeWizard หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@HolyGrailOfGolf if it were “that easy” I think Butch Harmon would be able to get Jimmy Walker not early extending over however many years they’ve been working together. There’s many factors, how a persons body works is a major one & some people’s bodies swing most efficiently not getting as open as others. Jack Nicklaus, Brandon Mathew’s & Louie Oosthuizen would be more examples.

    • @HolyGrailOfGolf
      @HolyGrailOfGolf หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TheWedgeWizard Good points. In my opinion modern American golf instruction is still in the dark ages. They go about it all wrong. They attempt to mimic the positions of good players without understanding the fundamental foundation that creates those positions. It's what I call de facto learning - assuming that a manufactured effect will somehow create the proper cause. It simply doesn't happen which is why it usually takes people forever to learn golf, if ever.
