131ci Breakout / Build & Dyno Tune / Stupid Fast

- 131ci Builds are becoming very popular & are fast proving to be the new level of performance for many Milwaukee8 customers.
The Stage IV kit from Screamin' Eagle has all the right parts to make for a solid build. Included in the kit is CNC Cylinder heads with +1mm Valves in all corners, high lift valve springs & as the name suggests, have been beautifully ported via the precision of CNC machining.
A 64mm Throttle body & matching intake manifold supply all the air flow needed for the heads. 5.5gps Fuel Injectors, Screamin Eagle heavy duty Tappets & a Screamin' Eagle SE517 Cam.
The SE 517 has been swapped out for this build to the CYCLE-RAMA CR512.
Reasons for the cam swap are, more HP & TQ, better throttle response, smooth transition through entire TQ curve, wider Torque curve & most importantly.....better SOUND!!
This build required a little more added strength with a true'd, plugged & welded Flywheel to keep the bottom end in check.
I used S&S Billet lifter cuffs to help support the lifter with the higher lift.
The CYCLE-RAMA Compensator was installed to keep the Primary Drive in check & 1275nm Clutch Springs keep all the HP & TQ going to the ground.
There is a lot of work that goes on that is not captured on camera or included in the video, such as measuring piston to bore clearance, setting piston ring end gap, matching of the intake manifold to the heads & MOST Importantly, HEAT Cycling the engine.
I try to keep the video exciting & moving along without boring you too much with many many MANY minutes of footage where you can't see exactly what I'm doing or it's too hard to film by myself with the GoPro.

We in the USA love a good “skid” too, lol. We can do some “skids” too. You’re doing an awesome job with these engines and explaining the cams and customer wants. I understand not being able to be a full time TH-camr. With a full time job, family, and life it’s hard to have time for it. Just know we appreciate it.

Nice build and tuning; 140hp/145tq specially with the less than optimum exhaust system. The Cycle Rama 512 Cam performs quite well with the HD-SE 131 Kit. Very nice curves on the Dyno Sheet. Well done. 2-23-2023

The Lowrider S is my favorite Softail. The Street Bob is definitely up there too though.

That Fatbob is definitely a very fun bike mate! Best suited for sportier/aggressive riding styles but still great to cruise on.
Unfortunately I don't know anyone down in Vic that I could recommend.
I have had guys send their bikes to us for work and we send them back.
We could also organise the sale of the bike when the time comes & do any work you want done along with any accessories fitted then ship to bike to you all ready to go straight off bat. We've done that before with interstate sales.

Well done ( mate ) i am buying a new fat boy in NYC. I have a Gen2 VMAX and love it but it does buck at low speed. I will ride my new 114 and when the time is right upgrade to this 131 kit. Who would have ever thought a Harley could make these numbers ?

Absolute beast. These 131 builds you're doing might look the same on the title of a TH-cam video but they can be vastly different depending on the customers wants or needs. You're achieving great results mate. As soon as I can get organised I'll get my Breakout up there for you to give it a kick in the guts.

fantastic work as always Tommy. Do you know if the S&S quickie pushrods fit inside the screamin eagle black pushrod tubes on the M8... ive been unable to find the answer as someone mentioned they dont. thanks

Ok, the S&S Quickie pushrods are designed to work with the STOCK pushrods tubes on the M8. Now the stock pushrod tubes are slightly longer than the Screamin Eagle pushrod tubes.
The Screamin Eagle pushrod tubes are slightly shorter than the stock ones, they have to be shorter to allow for wrench clearance and the bottom to make the adjustments.
So with all that said I would assume very confidently that the S&S quickie pushrods will fit inside & be able to work with the Screamin Eagle pushrod tubes.
Do you thing that Cycle Ramma cam you put in that build is better than the Star 3/4 cam?
Awesome Job and of course an awesome bike! Is it correct that i see 3 holes for 3 Ignition sparks? And yes, it gives a lot to do when you rebuild and tune an engine! TX for sharing this video
The Milwaukee8 uses 2x spark plugs per cylinder head so 4x spark plugs all up.

I'm not sure what the fender is as I did not fit it. It was already fitted to the bike before I did any work to the bike.

Great vid, I recently had my Fat Bob fitted with the same kit but using the 131 kit cam, hilariously fast now. How much extra do you get from your recommended cam please?
Results vary from engine to engine as different air filters & exhausts systems are used. However this CR512 Camshaft generally goes early 150hp & mid 150s in the torque.
Thus bike was a little lower due to the pipes
The SE cam in the 131ci kit is shit. I swapped it out for the CR512 and its an animal now..

So the stock clutches in the Milwaukee8 bikes are proving to be VERY solid. We upgrade the stock springs to the Heavier 1275N Springs from Screamin Eagle, and that's it! We have had NO issues with any clutches in any of our hi output engine builds.
Even the bike we drag race on a regular basis still run stock clutches with only the upgraded springs.

Do I need to get the SE tuner for S&S slip-ons on the low rider s 117? my dealer in NZ doesn't have a dyno and the closest place is a few hundred k's away

NO. If you are just getting the Slip On pipes then you don't need to get a tuner.
The base calibration in the ECM has been done with upgraded air filter in mind so just adding slip in pipes won't effect it much at all and the ECM will still have learning window margin to make any adjustments if needed.

Sold the bike before I had a chance to spend more time on it so I didn't end up getting the 160 but all good. I'll be doing another build shortly and aiming for over 160

I build plenty of big cube tourers with no issues. There are a few things that must be done to ensure longevity of the build its no secret.

Was interesting re the twin over single pipe scenario I didn’t want to change out my pipes as Super Trapp were the only pipes made that fit the scorched chrome and I didn’t want to lose that look
I had to go to bigger injectors so to get the most out of the setup

Depending on your exact setup now with exhaust, air filter & tuning module you could be up for around 12k ride in ride out fully built & tuned.
If you already have a decent air filter, exhaust system & tuning module it will be less

They are FREEDOM pipes and these ones are known as Radical Radius.
Great Job boss amazing Breakout. Have a question for you my Fat Bob 2018 from 107 I upgraded to 124 S&S Stage 3 with 475 Cam and Screaming eagle throttle body with injectors. And Clutch plates with 2-1 S&S Race only with silencer making over 131hp and 144tq but its not that smooth any thing else is missing to make the bike ride smooth as stock ? Or its impossible once you go with these performance parts.
The S&S 475 cam is not known for being smooth. I would recommend changing to a CR485 from www.alphaperformanceengines.com.au
That will make the bike run smoothly & will definitely make more power. The rest of your setup sounds like it will be fine to keep running.

They are FREEDOM Radical Radius. The owner has modified the ends caps. They normally have a 'slash cut' end cap but they've been cut off straight
Loving the videos and the builds, new to Harley and just purchased a 2023 Breakout, in regards to the Freedom Radius Pipes, are they better than the V&H Big radius pipes, got these and as part of the Stage 1 kit. Keep up the good work and good to see a some local content.@@MasterTechMiller

watched Blockheads channel from the US ,i see they had to swap the transmission for a Baker unit in one of their builds
Yeah I wouldn't be surprised...they have definitely been hit & miss. We have done 2 full seasons of drag racing with north of 160hp & 160ft/lbs on 100% stock transmissions without a problem.
Yet on the other hand, some people destroy 3rd gear on a stock 114ci.
Let us see some Vrod engine build/upgrades
They're not very popular around these parts. We don't even really any for service work let alone performance upgrades. In my 15 years I've worked on less than 10 Vrods.
What fun is that, like a 5 year old getting off. Love the conversion, it would be a good time rapping through the gears. I guess i dont see the sense in tearing up the tire, belt, and brakes. Maybe its me!!!
What year is your Breakout, and did you have to do anything special to fit the 131 in there? Been thinking of putting a stage 4 131 in my 2014 Breakout, since it has a stage 2 103, and it's rather slow...
This is my friend's. It's a 2020 model and the 131ci engine fits straight in without any hassles.
Your 2014 Breakout is a Twincam engine the largest bolt on kit you can go with that it 117ci.
You can also buy the 120R Screamin Eagle crate motor which is a complete bolt in engine.

@@gagepuffinbarger6939 there is a fair bit of difference between the Twincan engine and the new Milwaukee8 engine. Mainly the 4 valves per head in the M8 engine.

Either these pipes that on this bike Radical Radius or the Sharp Curve Radius option. Both are made by Freedom exhaust

From a completely stock 114ci Breakout you will to budget roughly $10,500 ride in ride out for something like this engine build. Obviously that's including the engine kit, exhaust system, air filter setup, tuning device, labour and dyno tune.

D&D lowcat is my favorite 2-1 pipe for sure! Looks great with it's up swept design. Sounds absolutely awesome & has proven to be the best performing 2-1 I've used.
Im suprised you didnt use an updated cam plate w the higher lift cam(Fueling+) , like in ur other builds.

Thinking of a 131 . Can a 468 cam work with this configuration ?
The SE517 that comes with 131ci would be far better suited than 468 cam.
You could run the 468 cam but you would holding the engine back substantially.
The engine would not be able to run efficiently with the smaller cam as it wouldn't allow for big enough 'breath' to fully fill the cylinders.

If you want to chase serious power from the V-Rod you need to hit the aftermarket

No. You have a Twincam engine which can go upto a 124ci with a Stroker crank and some machine work. If that's no something your into you can buy a JIMS 135ci Crate engine for your bike

He's never ran it on the drag strip.
Boosted conversations have taken place and we trying to come up with the best setup for him. All the Super Charging kits we've been looking at all have draw backs. Some worse than others, some not so bad.
Turbo options are looking promising so now it's just a matter of costings now.
I have a good feeling the bike will be boosted in the first half of 2023
How much does the stage 4 set you back?
This kit is roughly $5700 the new Cyclerama Cr512 Camshaft ($550) then installation and dyno tuning fees on top

Is it worth doing the upgrade from 114 to 131, if your riding 10,000 miles per year. My bike is 2020 breakout trying to figure out if I should spent 9k on upgrade for fast bike or get naked superbike
A few things to consider with an upgrade like this are; I recommend halving the service intervals for the engine oil & filter. So that brings it down every 2500mi.
The primary & trans oils can remain at the 5000mi interval.
Fuel consumption does increase aswell so if your looking to do longer hauls you will be looking for gas stations more often.
From 0 to 100mph these types of builds will crush just about any 1000cc Sportbike on the road.

I like this build, anyone can build a motor just for a dyno printout with massive number's..... But that's an issue for a tape measure 🤣😂🤣.... But I've always said it's better to make usable numbers, especially within the rev range of normal riding...... As it's a road,NOT A DRAG STRIP.....

That's exactly right though mate. I could have put a cam in there with over 250° of duration with more lift and made lots more power but it would have softened the bottom end off and not had the huge hit from 2000rpm.
Time & place for all different combos and as you said....numbers ain't everything 🇦🇺

Unfortunately not mate. Your 2017 CVO Breakout is a Twin Cam engine. This kit is for the the Milwaukee 8 engine.
The closest you could go would be an S&S 124ci kit.
A large amount of work is involved though. Your complete engine has to be disassembled & removed from the frame. Then the engine cases have to be bored out to accommodate the larger cylinders.
From there you need to machine the cylinder head faces down to help increase the compression ratio for the cams that come with the kit.
It's approximately $12,000AUD by the time you get all that done, upgrade your clutch, dyno tuning, machine work ect.
What do you do for a clutch on a build like that? That clutch can’t be stock… right?
Clutch is completely stock except for the Screamin Eagle 1275nm springs.
