    Almost every reviewer ride of the V-Rod on YT starts off with a "Wow!", quickly followed by "This blew up my preconceived ideas about the V-Rod." Still one of HD's great bikes and now that they're finally getting "discovered", more popular than ever.

    I had a 2004 V-Rod that I ended up putting detachable saddle bags on, more comfortable seats, detachable sissy bar, engine guard, Bub pipes and a Vance&Hines FuelPak tuner. Sounded like a traditional HD. Got the best of both worlds, touring and racing. My wife and I used to ride the V-Rod from Massachusetts to Naples Florida and back, very comfortable. most reliable HD motorcycle made! Only issue was the 2004 had a small capacity fuel tank, and we had some close calls almost running out of fuel.
    110 miles on it when I purchased in 2008. Traded it in 2010 with 18,000 miles on it. Best bike I have ever owned.

    For me you can't beat the original V-Rod. I have the 2003 100th Anniversary and I love it - the 180 rear tire makes it handle really well and is quite happy doing a ton over the mountain in the Isle of Man where I've taken it 3 times and keeps ok with my mate on their sports bikes. For a 19 year old bike it's a beast!!! 🙂

    Ok this is a video that had to be made . I love both of these bikes , now I wanna talk about what's funky . First ditch that little Honda Shadow looking tank and add a fat tank , now the bikes is perfect . I really like the 114 air breather that on the bike . I love the breakout , it's an all style bike that can be takin to the distance and not a main Street fashion yuppy ride . The breakout isn't fast but with that 114 I'm sure it's oh ya and go for a stage 4 and I'd think it'll get it , it's a beauty . That's one slow bike that I'd feel damn proud of around crotch rockets or what ever , that's how much I dig the bike . My 2016 has a heavy breather screaming eagle and I love it . It also has a big radius exhaust and that's it along with a swing arm bag , I love it and it's only a 103 and I love it . It's a perfect fucking Harley that's all style and I can ride the distance on it . That fat wide low stance is greatness along with that fat 5 gallon tank . Ok now the vrod........ A bike I've loved for the longest time , I'm jealous of that superb machine and Harley can choke for killing that machine . What's funky now , ditch the handle bars and add drag bars , the air filter cover on that muscle is a great one bit it'll need an after market cover made in Russia . Now relocate the speedo to the aftermarket air box cover after them two things are redone now we're dealing with perfection . I love the bike and that rear fender goes with that fat tire . That fuckin vrod is tight and whip . I've only been up to two up close and it's a different kind of bike . Just cause its built for performance and looks doesn't mean it needs to die . This bike up close is all business just from looking at it . I love everything else about it , the exhaust coming out on both sides is marvelous. Fat wide and low but not too low is perfect on a Harley .

    I looked hard at both the Breakout and the 2016 Night Rod Special and went with the NRS. I beg to differ with your comment about it not being a god looking bike. The NRS is ridiculously fast for a HD and turns heads everywhere it goes. Lately it’s gotten more attention than most of the cats at the car shows I’ve been to.
    I can drag pegs on the canyons and above 4500rpms it pulls hard! You hit that 8000rpms and start floating gears it’s even faster! That 240 on the rear handled much better than I thought it would. A big selling point was the dual rotors on the front end. Huge points for me. Comes with 125hp and 83lbs of torque.

    My experience with the V-ROD Muscle was quite opposite of this review: I had a punched-oit 03 Yamaha FZ1 which made my next bike (2010 Muscle) quite a step down in power, yet the grunt of a V-Twin more satisfying. It was seeing that V-Rod in person that gave me major goosebumps! The most beautiful machine I've ever seen! It cost around $6500 US funds I mention it since I’m Canadian and that was over 3 years ago and I already had a blown engine built to same spec before that with low miles so about 30% of internal parts got reused minus the block, so this cost is everything with machining a block from 02 Vrod . This cost was purchase and build. One thing I highly recommend not doing this unless you can get it tuned by the engine builder or good vrod tuner since I live in Windsor Ontario Canada nothing but some f###ng amateurs for modified vrod tuning.

    I've got a '17 Muscle exactly like this, except with the mini passenger back rest. Previous was an '06 vrsc. Hadn't ridden since '07 (10 yrs.) Went to the HD dealer, bought/got on it & rode for an hr through the hills & highways, to work. Not gonna lie, I was nothing like the standard vrsc. It leaned nothing like the thin-tired bike. First time on an offramp, its didn't want to stay down, through the curve, even when applying more accelerator & leaning-harder.. Acceleration was hyper. There is no 'mellow, then power band. It's a rocket freight train, 100% of the rpms. The first drive, after such a hiatus, was stressful. Never felt that on a bike, even on my VFRs & BMW K1. I drive Michigan B-Trains at 147k GVWR metal coils, Tankers, and doubles-freight; they've never stressed me in a Pt. A->B drive. I've kept it, because it is fun. Took a couple of rides to 'understand' it. It has a personality that must be adapted-to, in order to zoom-around like one does on a typical bike, but it can do all of this things, like you experience on a standard bike. It's not jerky at the low-end, so you can slow to a stop, and not have to put your left foot down, right-away. This one doesn't lay-rubber like a typ vrsc. The rear wheel has much more grip, on a straight-pull. The regular vrsc will lay-down rubber for well-over 100 yards, if you drop the clutch & keep the throttle-pulled. I have smoked the tires/drifted it from a dead-stop, though.
    Note: the headlight is weak; it can't be ridden on dirt/country/gravel, or even rain-storm, road conditions. I drifted through a left turn at an intersection in a storm that was extreme pucker-factor. Fortunately, I've taken the riding/skid-pad courses for bikes & trucks. Regular rear-wheel vrod's don't have this problem.

The Breakout was a 2014 model with the 103 ci motor. While I liked the torque output of the 103 in the Breakout and didn't really miss the high RPM rush of the V-Rod, the Breakout required a considerable amount of effort on the bars to go through turns. Both my V-Rod and the V-Rod Muscle handle virtually the same despite the Muscles 240 rear tire.

But I always justified my preference (to stick with the earlier model) on the basis the 240 made it tougher to navigate twisties. Your experience is that this is not the case (I haven’t ridden a 240 rear yet).

    The dealers killed off the VROD. Harley's answer to modern motorcycling and they killed it and went back to the thirties engine tech. I was going to buy a VROD after commuting back and forth on my 1200S for years. I had a hard time finding a dealer that had a good selection of the VROD, I was looking for the night rod . Then they quit making them and I did not want to get another primary chain driven pushrod motor so I went over to Victory and bought a Judge. Now the wife wants to ride with me so I am looking for a good bagger and I looked at the Harley line up and will probably go with Indian because they are more bang for the buck with modern engines. Harley should have taken that revolution engine and adapted it to their entire lineup. Sure it does not sound like an old Harley but with the factory headers it sounded like a new and improved Harley.

    • @akaredcrossbow
      @akaredcrossbow 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      To be honest with the loss of the carburetor and using fuel injection a Harley doesn’t sound like a Harley anymore anyway, so hardcore HD enthusiasts have no problem with that lol. With the right pipes and tuning you can get a V-Rod to sound like a traditional Harley at idle and low speeds. Once you turn that throttle all the way is when it changes and sounds like a dragster.

    • @iamthebroker
      @iamthebroker 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Wrong. Completely wrong. HD engineers embedded themselves into Porsches R&D headquarters in Germany to transition the H.D. VR1000 engine (which was Harley’s existing water cooled racing engine) into a production compatible unit for use in the P4 project (which became the VRod). Development issues which manifested mainly during reliability and durability testing (500 hours non stop in simulated real world [autobahn] conditions) meant the partnership team (of combined HD and Porsche engineers based at Porsche) was told to start with a clean sheet. Thus the end result was indeed a complete new designed primarily with Porsches input at their R&D facilities and tested to production standard over there.
