      They use a very stable TiM that will last several years which requires a sacrifice of performance quality. If they used one of the popular thermal pastes, it would very likely dry out after 18 months (or maybe less) and the chips would all start throttling and failing.

    This was a cool video! I like the option to delid and undervolt for the purposes of a smaller/cheaper LP Air Cooler and/or quiet system. Of course there still exists the option to OC and use a bigger cooler if desired. Personally I think a front facing LP cpu fan looks good even in an Mid-ATX case.

    I am thinking about getting my hands on a DANCase and I am running the 8600k and MSI Carbon ITX board.
    Did you by chance de-lid and undervolt the i5 when you were running it?
    I am currently running a 240mm aio with the i5 @ 5ghz at 1.32v.

    • @oliverkrivel2696
      @oliverkrivel2696 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, I do not lie. My cooler is Cooler Gelid GX-7 Ultimate CC-GX-7-01-A. It was too hot with default compound so I replaced it with Thermal Grizzly metal. I have it on MSI z370 Tomahawk (which is not bad). I think 50% success is due to the motherboard sufficiency. It is not my first delidding so I was pretty sure what to do.

    How much does this reduce the TDP by? I'm looking the Cryorig Taku case for my next build and it has extremely limited cooler clearance. Noctua state their low profile LH-L9i isnt suitable for the 8700k due to its 95W TDP. Think your method would get it down to acceptable levels?

  • @danielgraves7381
    @danielgraves7381 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I believe that is awesome, I just am not willing to risk the warranty. That being said once the warranty is up, and the processor starts showing its age(4+ years, from now) I may decide to do just that. I also have an 8700K with the Aorus GTX 1060 6GB model. I am also using a much larger case than you are; I also am using a Corsair 280mm AIO, thermals don't factor in to severely for me. I just run it stock and allow for the CPU boost.

      Temperatures affect stability pretty much.
      The hotter your chip, the less stable it gets at higher frequencys.

      OH HELL YEA i have my 4790K at 1.277 Volt with 4.8Ghz atm. Under 60C while gaming. Not sure if i can maybe do 5Ghz with 1.35-1.37 Volt not tested yet, because i wait for a new Watercooler first.

    Any idea how undervolting is configured on Gigabyte motherboard? I could not find voltage offset settings in Gigabyte Z370.

    My non-delidded and non-overclocked i7 8700K reaches max 75 degrees in Prime 95 at 1.1v and 4.3 GHz at all cores. Enhanced turbo is off. Board is Z370 Tomahawk from MSI. And my cooler is Noctua NH-D15S with only one 140-mm fan. And i'm pretty happy with my first i7 in my whole life. :)

    i did this with a 8086k before delidding i was getting over 93C, and after, it was around 65 to 66C so yea it makes a big difference.
    oh yea one more thing intel says there new i9 CPU.s are going to be Soldered.

    Great video. I do undervolt my 8600k by 0.095v which is giving me max temps of around 70c. I do plan to delid in the future so I can run the fans slower in the future

      MSi Z370 Pro Carbon ITX with Nocuta D9L with two 2000rpm fans. Testing has been done with Cinabench and Intel Extreme tuning as games don't really stress it.

      My 8600k is overclocked to 4,9GHz, and i am stable at 40 degrees. Got over 50 degrees only one time for 1 minute!

      what are your overclocking settings? I went for 4.9 GHz (stock) and 0,020 V overvolt for @ 71 °C (still much lower than automatic OC at 5 GHz, which was around 85 °C). Asus ROG Strix Z370G mobo. Scythe Koketsu cooler.

      King Haro The 8700K stock voltage will definetly run around 90-95C without delid in this case and will probably run 75-80C even with delid using Scythe Big Shuriken 2 Rev B.
