I make biscuits with 2.5 cups of self-rising flour, 1 stick of butter and 1 1/4 - 1 1/2 buttermilk. I would say this is about the same kind of biscuits. 460° for 12-15 minutes. I may try these if I can find the biscuit mix. I make them for my brother often who is homebound. Thanks Tom, found your channel and have been watching every since.
You don't need to use more of the mix for rolling out. Sift out a pile of self-rising flour (it's a lot cheaper) on your board, put your wet dough on the pile and sift some more on top. I like to fold mine about 7 or 8 times for the layers, roll or pat out and cut. They are much easier to handle because they won't be wet. They always turn out perfect if you have fresh buttermilk. I've tried souring milk with vinegar, but they don't turn out nearly as good! When I saw this, I thought you had come up with a homemade version of the mix (lol)!
I used to stock shelves at Walmart and I can tell you old ladies would walk up to me and literally take bags of those off of me before they ever hit the shelf 🙂👍!!!
I just got my bag from Amazon the other day cause up here in NY they don't sell it. At least I haven't seen it. I watched Tammy at Collard Valley Cooks making biscuits with this mix & she loved it.❤❤
GM Tom & Melissa🤗 I have you guys riding to work with me this morning! We do have that biscuit mix here in Ms, and I’ve seen it a lot but, I always make mine from scratch . So, I think after work I will stop and get a bag of the formula L mix, and cook one of my mom after work quick dinner, “ Tomato Gravy over Rice, Fried Chicken and not her biscuits but the Formula L biscuits.👍🏾🤗 Y’all have the Tuesday with blessings and laughter.💕💜💕🍽
My Grandmother taught me to bake my biscuits on 500 degrees. They bake in about 6 minutes and will be very fluffy. We grew up on biscuits & gravy every morning. My Grandmother taught to put a little yellow mustard on it. It is soooo Good. Melissa needs to talk a little louder so we ca hear what she is saying. Cut them in crescent shape to fill in those gaps. Biscuits don't have to be round.

What a sweet, sweet comment! We are so appreciative of your support. It really means a lot to us, and I can't wait to share this with Tom. You have encouraged me so much with your words. May God Bless your wonderful family!
I find the mix at WalMart. Food City, and a couple other grocery stores in our area, here in East Tennessee. I keep at least one bag in my freezer. And actually just put it back in the freezer after each use. ( we make biscuits about once a week ) This is great stuff.
We're in E TN, too. Usually, get it at Wal-Mart. But it seems like Wal-Mart is out of so much since covid! Haven't looked at Food City. Wonder if Publix carries it? Not sure we've tried the Southern brand. Hubby doesn't like Bisquic. He's sort of picky that way😉
You know, we are all connected here on TH-cam. I have been watching Leslie and her family for several years and she got me making those Formula L biscuits. Actually, my very favorite biscuit mix is Teays Valley which is in WV. When I go home there to visit my brother, I always bring some boxes back. Paula Deen sells her biscuit mix using this mix and the Teays Valley logo shows on her box. They are tops in my book. Love your channel, Tom & Melissa.
I’m in West Virginia & my daughter lives in Hurricane…..very close to Teays Valley!! Have you tried Teays Valley Chicken & Dumpling mix????? WOW!!!! It’s DELICIOUS!!!!
@@BRuthable they are!!!! I fix my chicken in the crock pot ahead of time & use chicken broth to cook the chicken in AND to make the dumplings!!! Yummmmmy😋Using the broth (instead of water) takes it to a whole new level🤩
Yes i am in WV and love Teays Valley. I want to try this mix. I am in love with Cracker Barrel biscuits and now i am wondering who makes those . I heard that the Formula L is used in chain restaurants.Thank you for sharing your comment.😊
I really like Formula L biscuit mix. I first heard about it from Tammy of the Collard Valley Cooks TH-camchannel. The first time, I ordered it from Amazon ( it was a little expensive - $15). I have since found it at my local Kroger store, on sale this week for $4.99
I live in WV and our Kroger's carries Formula L biscuit mix. I noticed your buttermilk was from Kroger, so you might ask if they can get Formula L for you. I also first heard about Formula L from Leslie. I love her channel and also enjoy yours! You are great at describing how to make a recipe and seem so patient!
We will ask them about it. Our friend, Liz, has tried to get our local Kroger to get it but perhaps if we keep asking they will accommodate us in the future.
I have been told this mix is excellent. I have always made mine from scratch. After watching this video, I am going to try. Thank you for sharing, I appreciate it.😊
Looks fantastic. Have had Formula L ready to order for a week, just waiting on payday. With a sausage patty on my biscuits, I would drizzle some maple syrup across it before I shut the lid down on that! 😋
Those look just like biscuits my mom made. She used White Lily with Crisco & buttermilk but instead of patting & cutting them out, she pinched & rolled each one. They weren't layered & didn't rise a lot but they had that very tender texture inside. She was known for her biscuits for many years. Maybe that's how your grandmother made them too. There's an art to that & at 70 I haven't learned it yet. Maybe I can get the results I want by using the Formula L biscuit mix. 😊
I have the same spatula you have. I use mine all the time. It’s refreshing to see a man who loves to cook. I taught my son’s how to cook and they cook for their families now. You have a beautiful wife. We would love to see her more. Thank you for all your video’s. They are wonderful.😊😊😊 God bless to you both.🙏🙏❤️🌹 Linda
I fixed this tonight with sausage gravy for dinner. They were very good. As you said in the video, they are very wet to work with. I have absolutely lived your recipes. 😊

I have been making these Formula L biscuits for years. The only place I can find it in in my area is Food Lion. This morning I made cinnamon raisin biscuits with a glaze of powdered sugar, 1/2 & 1/2 and a drop of cinnamon extract. I used cinnamon chips in the biscuits. I don't recall the brand because I had dumped them into a container when I opened them. I also do not put that extra 1/4 cup of buttermilk, as you can see they are way too wet, and I still added the extra to the rolling surface.. Thanks for sharing, I just wish more stores carried it. Thanks for sharing this with us. Whenever I buy flour that already has baking powder in it I add ¼ tsp fresh baking powder because I don't know how long the flour has had its own in it. It won't hurt to add such a small amount. Also I use 2 cups of flour so I'll maybe get 6-7ish biscuits. I only Formula L mix. It tends to be wet. I don’t measure anything. I just mix together till I think it’s good. When they come out of the bowl, I use my hands and knead the dough slightly. Then I pay them just as you did. Use Crisco in pan. I put mine in a pie plate or square smaller pan. They always raise for me.
When I looked for Formula L it said that the yellow flakes are golden shortening flakes. I make my biscuits sticky like these were. Just sprinkle flour and work a little before cutting and baking. I actually layer mine over a few times before baking. Might have to get some of this. I found it on Amazon.
Now, fry up some slices of Canadian bacon, put it into that warm biscuit with a slice of tomato, Dukes Mayonnaise and a little black pepper. Delicious! I use that biscuit mix a lot.
I have watched a couple of your videos and this biscuit video really hit home. Those look like the biscuits we used to have for breakfast on the weekends. Do you take requests for video ideas? If so do you have a homemade fried chicken recipe you would be willing to share? I am thinking these biscuits, the mashed potatoes and milk gravy, and some real homemade fried chicken would be an amazing meal.

Amazon has Formula L in several sizes. I've never tried it, but I wanted to know where I could get it so I tried Amazon first. I live in Louisville Ky. I'm one of your neighbors. 😂
I’d love to eat that with some fried chicken and a side of gravy! I can’t find that mix on anywhere and the cost on Amazon was out of this world! Thanks for sharing. Blessed be!🙏🏿
you can make your own buttermilk which is your milk and have some vinegar to it and it turns it buttermilk.... my own mother taught me that and my mother has passed in 2013
I order some of that biscuit mix from Amazon. I also saw Leslie talk about it on her channel. It was expensive and I don’t think they were any better than bisquick and for sure not better than the biscuit supreme recipe in my Better Homes and Gardens old binder.
I like the way you always get everything out of the pan and not waste any of it.

Beautiful biscuits. Just a suggestion: If you would brush on a little butter or buttermilk, they would be even prettier
My grandma used to put a little blob of shortening on her biscuits before baking. They came so golden brown & so yummy.
Yes that would definitely make them golden brown! Thank you for watching.
I put a dot of salted butter on mine before baking. The little extra salt adds to the flavor and the butter gives a golden brown color.
This is a GREAT biscuit mix. I've even made dumplings with it. Just have to roll the dough thinner.
I just ordered the last 2 bags Amazon had. I can't wait to try this. Will make it so much easier 😊
Formula l biscuits are wonderful. It is actually butter buds in mix. I order mine from Walmart and they send it to my home. Thanks you guys for making wonderful food. ❤

That's very interesting but what ratios of those ingredients?
@@cathyprosser1050 it’s 2 cups of self rising flour .. 1/4 cup of crisco mixed with either butter flavor Crisco or real butter .. mix together and put in a container for later use .. u can also add a tsp of of vanilla to it if u wanna make pancakes or waffles .. just take out as much as u need .. add milk or buttermilk and ur good to go .. roll out biscuits or add more milk for pancakes or waffles .. if u have any questions please ask me ..
@@Laura-fj2ks Thank you! 😊 👍
I just came across your channel. Hello, from Central Florida. I have been binge Watching your channel and now I am so hungry. I would have brushed some melted butter across those hot biscuits. 😋 yum.
Amazon has Formula L in several sizes. I've never tried it, but I wanted to know where I could get it so I tried Amazon first. I live in Louisville Ky. I'm one of your neighbors. 😂
Hello~ New Sub. I would Love thank you Both for these fantastic Reciep's.🙏
I’d love to eat that with some fried chicken and a side of gravy! I can’t find that mix on anywhere and the cost on Amazon was out of this world! Thanks for sharing. Blessed be!🙏🏿
Try Food Lion if you have that where you live.

I just ordered Formula L from Amazon and excited to try some.
We really enjoyed the flavor of it! We sure hope our local stores will carry it soon.
Here in North Carolina I have bought it by accident I feel like it has dehydrated butter in it but makes good biscuits
Yum! I’ll take two, please.
I am going to try ordering the mix
I think they might have needed kneading just a little more to rise higher. They look delicious !!!
Great video! Enjoyed it.
Thank you so much. We appreciate that you are watching our channel.
Makes me biscuit hungry!
you can make your own buttermilk which is your milk and have some vinegar to it and it turns it buttermilk.... my own mother taught me that and my mother has passed in 2013
Yum!!! I will look for the Formula L mix to try these. 😋
I order some of that biscuit mix from Amazon. I also saw Leslie talk about it on her channel. It was expensive and I don’t think they were any better than bisquick and for sure not better than the biscuit supreme recipe in my Better Homes and Gardens old binder.
I’ve done this love it
Браво супер
Made your sloppy joes, and loved it! As a diabetic, your biscuit video is just going to make me sad, angry, and sad again. I bet they are great!
