My favorite thing about this channel, besides your personalities, is that you don't cook/bake with your noses in the air. So many channels get so hung up on making every component of the recipe homemade that before they even get to the actual recipe I'm discouraged by every ingredient that has to be made to go into it. Thank you for making a channel that realizes not everyone needs to be a gourmet chef to make something that tastes great.

Loved this video! Late September through October was when my mother would make fried pies as well. My dad loved them, so she'd make some for them, and then he'd drive around to drop them off at a few place around town as she got them ready (because you know they're best when they're still warm). When he passed in 2010, she just couldn't bring herself to make them anymore. If we'd pushed, I'm sure she would have done it for us, but we understood and respected how she felt about it. She passed in February of this year, and I can't see fried pies without thinking of the two of them. She'd sometimes use canned biscuit dough to speed the process a little. I bet she'd have loved using empanada dough like you did. Not sure how she'd feel about using the caramel, but I've got a feeling dad would have loved it because he was the sweet eater of the two. I don't usually prefer apple, I'm more partial to cherry or peach, but I think the addition of the caramel would make me like the apple better. These looked simply incredible.

I love fried pies. I never knew it could be so easy! You're right, pie dough is very unpredictable! I've had it work, and not work. I think it has to do with humidity and how damp your flour is. This seems like a good way to make excellent fried pies. My favorite is peach pie. I also like blueberry! ❤❤❤

Hi y'all it's fall! Many times over the years I would drive through Taco Bell and get their fried apple🍎 and caramel empanadas. They were so good, and now with your help of this great video I can make my own! I have some Torani caramel flavored syrup, that would taste so good added to the icing! My husband loves,loves fried pies but I watched your fried apple pie recipe. You made it look so easy. I’ve always made up my dough or use can biscuits. Fried Hand Pies are delicious.. I have a very forgiving dough recipe that I make and keep refrigerated..I can’t make enough to keep my family happy.. The chocolate, peach and coconut are favorites.. Both my grandmas and my mom used to make something similar. They made everything fron scratch and baked them in the oven at 375 for maybe 12-25 minutes. YUMMY

Asking for prayers for Helene and Milton victims. This time a year we travelled to NC to buy apples. We would walk down Chimney Rock main street. It is totally gone. For you who remember the movie Dirty Dancing, it was filmed at Lake Lure badly damaged as up near Chimney Rock. I love apple pies. I am going to try these in the air fryer or oven. Southerngrits, our hearts are absolutely broken for the people of North Carolina. I have a cousin who lives there. Their entire town was flooded and they were without power and water for 10 or 12 days. The devastation is absolutely horrible. We are praying for all those affected by the storm.

I have never made fried pies but now I want to. Using the empanada shells is brilliant. It took me years to use the pillsbury refrigerated dough. I was known for my pies. Nobody ever knew the difference. I wont waste years making empanada dough. Goya here i come. Also the dulce de leches caramel is a great tip. I can't wait until i get to the store to buy ingredients ❤

@@tomwyant9297 Thank you so much. My mother was an awersomer cook. With a husband and 7 kids, she learned how to take literally nothing and turn it into a feast. In all my years growing up, I don't ever remember her burning anything. When our church had dinner on the ground, we knew to go immediately to Mother's table of food because it would quickly disappear. When we built a new church, the men in the church all helped. The ladies provided lunch for them, and that always included a big platter of fried pies, fred chickenm, and other delights. I remember those guys talking about what a good cook my mother was.

I went to a fall festival in Georgia. She had made 250 fried pecan pies. I bought 2 and 1 apple. Oh they were fantastic. Never ate one before. I've got to find that lady and get more. Lol she wouldnt give her recipe. It was better than a homemade pecan pie in your crust. I know u can come up with a recipe cause u r great.

I bet she'd have loved using empanada dough like you did. Not sure how she'd feel about using the caramel, but I've got a feeling dad would have loved it because he was the sweet eater of the two. I don't usually prefer apple, I'm more partial to cherry or peach, but I think the addition of the caramel would make me like the apple better. These looked simply incredible.

I love fried pies. I never knew it could be so easy! You're right, pie dough is very unpredictable! I've had it work, and not work. I think it has to do with humidity and how damp your flour is.

They were so good, and now with your help of this great video I can make my own! I have some Torani caramel flavored syrup, that would taste so good added to the icing! Both my grandmas and my mom used to make something similar. They made everything fron scratch and baked them in the oven at 375 for maybe 12-25 minutes. YUMMY
Bake for 12-15 minutes.

Asking for prayers for Helene and Milton victims. This time a year we travelled to NC to buy apples. We would walk down Chimney Rock main street. It is totally gone. Southerngrits, our hearts are absolutely broken for the people of North Carolina. I have a cousin who lives there. Their entire town was flooded and they were without power and water for 10 or 12 days. The devastation is absolutely horrible. We are praying for all those affected by the storm.

It brings in thousands and thousands of people from out of town, which helps our community financially and allows those who come in to learn a little bit about our small town.

I have never made fried pies but now I want to. Using the empanada shells is brilliant. It took me years to use the pillsbury refrigerated dough. I was known for my pies. Nobody ever knew the difference. I wont waste years making empanada dough. Goya here i come. Also the dulce de leches caramel is a great tip. I can't wait until i get to the store to buy ingredients ❤

@@tomwyant9297 Thank you so much. My mother was an awersomer cook. With a husband and 7 kids, she learned how to take literally nothing and turn it into a feast. In all my years growing up, I don't ever remember her burning anything. When our church had dinner on the ground, we knew to go immediately to Mother's table of food because it would quickly disappear. When we built a new church, the men in the church all helped. The ladies provided lunch for them, and that always included a big platter of fried pies, fred chickenm, and other delights. I remember those guys talking about what a good cook my mother was.

I went to a fall festival in Georgia. She had made 250 fried pecan pies. I bought 2 and 1 apple. Oh they were fantastic. Never ate one before. I've got to find that lady and get more. Lol she wouldnt give her recipe. It was better than a homemade pecan pie in your crust. I know u can come up with a recipe cause u r great.

I agree with you, Tom, I like the Comstock brand for pie filling and I like to add more spices so it tastes more 'homemade'. THANK you for introducing me to Empanada dough and Dulce de Leche and how to make fried pies. Shopping today for the ingredients! I actually haven't ever had a hand pie.

I like to brush mine with some melted butter as soon as they come out and then sprinkle cinnamon and sugar on top and oh Yum

O boy! Can’t wait to try that empanada dough. I usually make my own. I just went to a local apple orchard yesterday. I bought Winter Banana Apples. I may use some of them but more than likely I will use the pie filling. Thanks Tom. Can’t wait till cookbook is available again. Congrats on the book.
