One of Bach's shorter cantatas - around 20 minutes - yet its impact is immense. The two choruses are mighty, totally compelling edifices while the alto aria is one of the most beautiful, tender pieces he ever wrote. I love all the cantatas but I keep coming back to this one for emotional uplift!

This concert is a remarkable achievement. The Cantata 43 is exceptionally difficult, especially for the first violins (the long first movement is more of a violin concerto without the stop-overs) but also for the sopranos and in general the singers, not to mention the stratospheric trumpeters. What is particularly commendable is the ease with which the musicians translate the musical into sound.
Bach is a musical narrator of the holy scriptures and never played to the gallery, unlike his most famous contemporaries. Lutz and his team do him full justice.
Hervorragend und wunderschön sind nicht zu starke Komplimente für diese außergewöhnliche musikalische Leistung.
Wie kraftvoll und doch elegant, wie spielerisch und doch streng, schwebend und doch geerdet, wie jubelnd und doch so ernst. Mir fehlen die Worte und der Mund bleibt vor Staunen offen.

What a masterpiece! And to think JSB was pouring stuff like this out every week as part of his normal duty for a paycheck. One of the greatest baffling wonders of the universe, imo, is how the Leipzig authorities had absolutely NO IDEA of the caliber of genius of the man they had in their midst from 1723 to 1750.
Agreed... beyond belief.
I learned recently that when Bach passed away he was merely given a bland "thank you for your years of service. Now on to the next thing." Completely baffling that even in his own time he was grossly overlooked.
Bach also did this while also teaching teenage boys on the side. If you've ever taught squirmy teenage boys, you know when I say that one is exhausted after the end of the day. Then on top of that he had, like, 5 to 6 children running around at home at any given time. Yet this man was still able to churn out music of this caliber on a weekly basis on top of DOING ALL OF THIS. These are the real reasons why I think Bach towers over Beethoven, Mozart or any other composer, most of whom had far better working conditions, including lots of silence. LOL...

@@TITOMARTINOJAZZETC. No tiene nada que ver con la nacionalidad, al menos en este caso (no soy suizo). Influyen dos factores: estas grabaciones se realizan en más de una sesión. Las personas disponibles para foro son forzosamente mayores, es decir jubiladas. El segundo es simplemente la otra cara de la moneda: en gran parte del mundo esta música es hasta despreciada por las generaciones más jovenes. Es lo mismo en salas de conciertos. Todos esperamos que madurezcan, pero tarda en ocurrir., si es que ocurra siquiera. Las únicas excepciones a esta tendencia son las naciones orientales. En conciertos de clásica en Londres (mi patria) los jovenes entre el público parecen ser todos de China o Japón. Y fijese como se adula en China a Lang Lang. Nada parecido en Europa. De Norteamérica no lo sé (Edward Cooper, él de los castillos)

The Swiss seem to be taking the baroque world by storm. I'm very impressed with their fervor and sensitivity to Bach especially. No sissy trumpets here! The orchestra plays with spot-on energy and a real love for the music.

Zweifellos eine der schönsten, festlichsten, wunderbarsten Kantaten Bachs, dargeboten von einem einzigartigen Orchester, tollen Solisten (Margot Oitzinger singt einfach ergreifend schön!) und einem transparenten, voluminösen Chor! Ich weiß nicht, wie oft ich mir dieses Video nun angesehen habe - es ist einfach fantastisch. Wenn man dies dann noch mit den Erläuterungen aus dem humorvollen Workshop hört, wird die Musik zu gesungenen Predigt oder zum gesungenen Gebet - besser, schöner und beGEISTernder geht es nicht. Ein großes Dankeschön an alle Musikerinnnen und Musiker für diese grandiose Leistung!
Wenn es im Leben eine Wahrheit gibt, die es sich um jeden Preis lohnt zu begreifen, dann ist sie sicherlich in dieser Kantate eingeschreint.

This is an exceptionally succesfull cantata because it doesn't follow the usual pattern choir, recitatives, arias, chorale. Mostly the chorale is an anticlimax. This is much more concise: two powerful choral movements flanking one very good and extended aria.

Mais c'est le problème de la musique classique aujourd'hui. Jeunes musiciens devant un public agé. Pour la pluspart des -50 ans la culture classique n'existe plus. Pas coïncidence que ça correspond à mai 68.

Über den lebendigen Glauben eines J.S.Bach brauchen wir uns keine Sorgen zu machen, aber daß in dem Text der NAME JESUS kein einziges Mal zu lesen/hören ist, macht mich wirklich traurig, denn der durch IHN geoffenbarte VATER meines HERRN JESUS hat mehrfach in den Evangelien den Himmel geöffnet und SEIN UNGETEILTES LOB und FREUDE hören lassen. In den folgenden Episteln SEINER (JESU) Apostel lesen wir ebenfalls vielfach, daß (echte= wiedergeborene) Christen a l l e s tun sollen "im Namen des HERRN JESUS CHRISTUS"!!! Denn der SOHN GOTTES ist gleichzeitig SOHN DES MENSCHEN und "GOTT gepriesen in EWIGKEIT"( siehe Römerbrief 9 uvam.)!!
Kann denn jeder der hiesigen Kommentatoren von sich sagen, daß er mit Sicherheit in den Himmel kommt, wenn er diese von ihrem Fürsten regierte Welt verlassen muß? Eine solche Schlüsselfrage ist doch viel wichtiger, als die hier vorgeführten christlich-religiösen Meinungen, bis hin zu den abstoßenden Streitigkeiten bzgl. der diversen christlichen Denominationen! Das ist wahrlich Wasser auf die Mühlen aller anderen Religionsangehörigen und somit Feinden des SOHNES GOTTES, dem diese bis auf wenige Ausnahmen einfach nicht glauben w o l l e n , allen voran die Moslems!
Also Schluß mit lustig und mit allen Unterhaltungsveranstaltungen zur Befriedigung der religiösen Regungen und Neigungen schon seit längerer Zeit! Nehmt die Bibel (das untrügliche WORT GOTTES) zur Hand, lest sie täglich, glaubt IHM ohne die unerträglichen kritischen Fragen, sondern demütigt euch unter dieses WORT, welches mit DEM SOHN GOTTES identisch ist und bekennt eure Sünden vor dem SOHN,, welcher bald wiederkommen wird zur Heimholung SEINER Brautgemeinde, bevor ER danach bald sichtbar erscheinen wird (mit der Braut in Begleitung) zum GERICHT (siehe u.a. 1. und 2. Thessalonicherbrief) über alle, welche IHM nicht gehorchen (glauben) wollten oder achtlos an IHM vorübergingen (siehe auch Matthäus 7, 12-23)!

Thank you all. A treat not only in beautiful playing and singing but the close up visuals are a bonus that you could only have in a small venue with a good seat. In a large hall you could not get the sense of the "action" so visible here.
