Where does so much beauty that is so actually palpable come from. Unbelievably it emanates from a sound wave. And these exponents of sublime sound waves are deserving of unlimited accolades, even though none will do them adequate justice.
« Vom Herzen ! buboy1685, he is usually very good, the voice is beautiful but here he is not in his best day, it seems that the harmonics are a bit out of tune in the beginning of the aria. Maybe some stress in the vocal chords...

I believe Stephen MacLeod can sing anything. I've never heard sch wonderful technique in the 60 years I've been listening to classical music. His approach is remarkable and precise. An excellent is the aria "Wacht auf, ihr Adern und ihr Glieder"! i am highly impressed indeed! His voice is like fine wine or wonderful pipe tobacco. His voice leaves you with memories which are impossible to ever forget!!
I went through a couple of years of "hell" for exposing the fallacies surrounding Covid and the bioweapons...every day I listened to MacLeod's "Mache Dich mein Herze Rein..." so powerful, strengthening, and "cleansing..." What a joy it is to be able to listen to such wonderful music as well as see the performers do such a good job. The HD is especially appreciated. Special note must be taken of the soprano Gerlinde Sämann who is plainly reading her music by braille. I take my hat off to them all. :)
The music is just right. It feels so human, so sad, everything. It is our humanity. Who we are. You could be in heaven and then it takes to the depths of despair. Everything like I said.
Just strip away the vocal parts and you habe the opening movement of the 2nd orchestral suite in D. Bach just reworked the same music into something new, isn't that cool?

Lovely to see the often under-rated Bass Stephen McLeod in more solos. I even prefer his "Mache dich" (Bach, St. Matthew) to dishy-voiced Per Mattei's rendition. The bass adds more solemnity. Lovely to see young performers, but alarming to see an audience that appears to be 90% Senior Citizens... As the young performers mature, who will follow them? Who will be their audiences? Beautiful and joyful... our youth need that!
Wait, is the soprano in Ehre sei Gott in der Höhe blind? Is she reading her notes through braille? Whoa! I've never seen that before. But it would make sense that someone blind would become a great singer--mostly because your sense of hearing heightens to great levels when you lose/are not born with sight.
That she is likely the first or second blind woman singer is a negative statement about our society. Kudos to Maestro Lutz for having the courage & wisdom to present this fabulous musician.

Brilliant! The only thing I missed was a tiny portion of smile in the opening Coro. The choir looks sooooo serious... Isn't this about being happy (May our mouth be full of laughter)? :)
I agree it is such a joyous piece (and I think this totally comes across- amazing performance!) but try singing the opening movement- it is extremely challenging to do well so I'm not surprised the performers might look serious- they're just focussing intensely! This piece is among the hardest of the Bach opening movements to sing out of all of his cantatas, partly because it is an adaptation of a virtuoso instrumental piece.

Simon Hunt Not so excellent, it is a modern trumpet, XXI century instrument, with holes, not the real original natural instrument, as played by Madeuf today, or the musicians of Bach times. It would be astonishing to see the same player playing the real deal, he is very good, but not excellent.
Henrique Silveira might consider the possibility that authenticity is not the only criterion for excellence. Madeuf does, remarkably, play almost in tune without holes and with a fine tone. The beauty of his playing is enhanced by its slight vulnerability. But is it authentic? I’m not sure. And, however much there may be authenticity of sound production, can we ever listen with authentic ears? No we cannot! Besides, I have a theory that Gottfried Reiche, who appears in a portrait holding a coiled trumpet, might have drilled into it one or two discreetly placed vent holes: thus he would have achieved the excellent tuning Bach would have liked. As we know from contemporary accounts, Bach insisted that his organ tuners allowed him to play a tolerable A flat major chord. We also know that he figured out a way of tuning his clavier in such a way that all keys were possible. Given his interest in tuning, I doubt he’d have formed such a high opinion of Reiche unless he was able to play Fs and flat As in tune, and possibly with even greater accuracy than Madeuf achieves without holes.
Edmund Spenser: the concept "in tune" is not absolute, it relates to temperament. I really love the natural harmonics outside the equal temperament, Bach wrote with that in mind. Moreover, there is no proof at all about holes in XVIII century. The holes produce a tune tamed for xxi century ears, including conductors, educated in equal temperament. I suffer a lot with the awful major thirds, including in the so called hip...

In the duet, the organist has been instructed to invent a counter melody to the cello melody composed by Bach which anticipates Bach's vocal lines. I can't stand that sort of clutter. All the organist should do is play the proper harmonies. What Bach wrote is entirely sufficient. The soprano is "reading" it through her fingers, by the way.
Because a counter-tenor/male alto is what Baroque composers used back in the early 1700s. Women were not really encouraged to sing outside of opera. So having a male alto sing this part is historically accurate. Just look it up, you silly goose.
The world is less ugly since we have Bach... Thanks to the singers, musicians, conductor and Kantor for painting colors in the sky.

Coro is a bit fast for me, maybe I'm just use to it slower, very good performance though!
et une basse musicale!!!
Und wie so oft, hat Bach diese Musik schon einmal verwendet: Ouvertüre Nr. 4.
In the duet, the organist has been instructed to invent a counter melody to the cello melody composed by Bach which anticipates Bach's vocal lines. I can't stand that sort of clutter. All the organist should do is play the proper harmonies. What Bach wrote is entirely sufficient. The soprano is "reading" it through her fingers, by the way.
great performance, stupid clapping and roaring..... s.d.g.
Con qualche prova in piu' sarebbe stata meglio, certo costano...
¡¡¡¡viva Karl Richter!!!!!
Because a counter-tenor/male alto is what Baroque composers used back in the early 1700s. Women were not really encouraged to sing outside of opera. So having a male alto sing this part is historically accurate. Just look it up, you silly goose.
