Tenho LP desse Oratório desde meus doze ou treze anos, por aí (no final ano completo 75), comprado sem recomendação nem indicação de ninguém. Meu irmão, um ano mais novo que eu, já falecido, foi cúmplice da façanha, que aconteceu em São João del-Rei,MG, Brasil. A loja acabou-se, a família musicista, dona da dita loja, não sei se ainda vive. O LP deve estar na casa de minha Mãe, que também já partiu. O mundo está pior, o Brasil "avacalhou-se"!. Bach continua! Esclareço que não sou musicólogo. Apenas sinto algo poderoso na obra desse alemão. ..

In the first opening of orchestral sinfonia I can feel the anxiety of both Mary, the mother of Jesus and Mary Magdalena running to the tomb to see the body of the Lord.
Beginning at 14:13, the soprano, Hanna Morrison, is absolutely superb! Perfect tone, effortless singing, sublime.

He might have hired someone from the Dresden court, if they were available...Bach was always complaining of the dearth of really good instrumentalists in Leipzig.

Sono tutti bravissimi, ottimi solisti, coro e orchestra... Oboista super ma Gardiner non incontra il mio gusto! Sembra che abbia sempre fretta (di andare dove poi?), troppo veloce e senza il giusto respiro bachiano.
Gardiner non capisce il ritmo e l'architettura della musica di Bach, sono d'accordo!
Che sarebbe allora il tempo adeguato,per piacere? Mi sembra perfettamente giusto. Chi sa oggi come Bach l’avesse immaginato?
i hate these renditions that are swamped with un-period-like masses of instrumentalists and swollen vocals. also the tempo for the sinfonia is way too fast, which is on par for gardner and koopman.
Is there another rendition on TH-cam that you prefer?
