This is contemporary jazz. I wish this kinda of sound was more appreciate, so artists like her would feel more motivated to continue mastering their craft. Imagine how music would have evolved nowadays if this was what is mainstream.

Okay story, when I was like six my older friend showed me this music video and I loved it, years later I was searching for it purely by the burning dolls because that's what I remembered it by, I searched stuff like "dollhouse" and "doll song" and "burning doll song" but never found it, earlier this year I was looking through old things and found one of my "secret books" (aka diaries) and found on a page "favorite song: settle down -kimbra" and I was like "pfft that sounds like some kind of weird country music why did I like it so much" and searched the song, I found this and I was like "ITS THE SONG IVE BEEN LOOKING FOR FOR LIKE FOUR YEARS OMG"

Great ensemble. I hear this undertone, a fusion inspired by Bjork, Amy Whinehouse and Lily allen. So happens I love all three. Kimbra is my most recent discovery and she never ceases to amaze me by her talent and unique sound.

I don’t see how cameo lover or any of this is empowering. If anything it looks like Kimbra’s fear of abandonment has burnt down the traditional life she could’ve had. Only to become a cheap Cameo lover in a mans life and be abandoned anyway, pining after men with closed hearts.
She then replaces the family she could have had by climbing to the Top of the World only to find it empty, to be built up to be broken, by soulless companies for profit.

It's so heartbreaking watching how they evolve in a way. At the beginning you are thinking: A young girl and boy in love, how nice. But as it works towards the end you see more and more, they are very young. And when the girls come out to dance, that realization hits you. They are children. It just hits you like a rock to the stomach. Girls always want the perfect man, but when he turns out to not be who he seems, they work harder, pushing and hurting themselves to have the perfect life. It just is heartbreaking!

Jon Miller I also noticed that the dolls and children could have represented naive, "fairytale" expectations of what a relationship would be like, and the burning of the dolls could represent the breaking of innocence and the letting go of past false notions and becoming mature after getting a taste of what real life is (possibility of affairs as shown by the picnic scene). The chorus may as well be speaking of the "revealing light" of truth. Although that's just me.

I think my favorite from her right now is “Settle Down”
In the 1980’s a lot of sounds and looks seemed to reflect an edge from the 1950’s ( about 30 years before). History seems to be repeating here in Kimbra’s “Settle Down” video. It not only has a cool 80’s feel at the start as Kimbra strikes a resemblance to an 80’s Molly Ringwald but then the look moves to reflect a classic late 50’s, early 60’s look which is also an 80’s thing.
The music to me along with Kimbra’s classic voice seems to have influences of the 1930’s or 40’s lounge era. Excellent work Kimbra!

attention to detail makes a great piece of art. excellent editing. and Kimbra is downright freaky, like one of those dolls about to burn. that look at 1:01. scary. check out that look to kill at 1:36. just a barely noticable exhale of contempt and tightening of the eyes says it all. this is kind of product I love from Kimbra. building and releasing tension. through the verses, choruses and bridge. right on. tight harmonies in the chorus. I'm in heaven.
