they think its her "complaining about the way the world used to be" But she just made a choice to base it off of the 50s and it makes since she did it! so they are just trying to find little things "wrong" with it
This is contemporary jazz. I wish this kinda of sound was more appreciate, so artists like her would feel more motivated to continue mastering their craft. Imagine how music would have evolved nowadays if this was what is mainstream.
A 16 year old writing songs about settling down? It does seem a bit satirical.. damn she must have been mature for her age. Seems like a time travel back to the 50s, I wonder what inspired her to write it.
Kimbra's music is not similar to anyone elses. she is unique and has her own tune. She is really a classic person. Her music videos leave people wondering what the meaning is. Kimbra is a classic singer with a beautiful tone. She'll take covers and make them her own. Kimbra we love you!
This Kimbra musical craft was ahead of it time 12 years ago! She is always way ahead of the curve! That's how some people forget just what a wonderful job she does.... On the other hand, I do NOT, nor will I ever! I've settled down!
Okay story, when I was like six my older friend showed me this music video and I loved it, years later I was searching for it purely by the burning dolls because that's what I remembered it by, I searched stuff like "dollhouse" and "doll song" and "burning doll song" but never found it, earlier this year I was looking through old things and found one of my "secret books" (aka diaries) and found on a page "favorite song: settle down -kimbra" and I was like "pfft that sounds like some kind of weird country music why did I like it so much" and searched the song, I found this and I was like "ITS THE SONG IVE BEEN LOOKING FOR FOR LIKE FOUR YEARS OMG"
I remember when I first stumbled upon this video about 3 years ago and in the beginning when she had her eyes closed I was so surprised at how gorgeous her eyes were when she open them.
Since they have the same girls and man, I think Cameo Lover and Settle Down represent the two sides of young romance; Cameo Lover is the self-empowering love focused on the present, Settle Down is the self-destructive infatuation obsessed with the future.
NIce! I dont know if you're right but that makes a lot of sense. Thanks for the insight....like the whole 50s trying to "keep a man" thing is antiquated and somehow girlish and then that shit sets to fire and it's like BOOM womanhood empowered. I don't need to be a stepford wife to keep a man. lol
It makes me happy to see that people actually pay attention to the meaning of these songs and analyze them as well. She makes music that makes you listen, not just hear.
I don’t see how cameo lover or any of this is empowering. If anything it looks like Kimbra’s fear of abandonment has burnt down the traditional life she could’ve had. Only to become a cheap Cameo lover in a mans life and be abandoned anyway, pining after men with closed hearts. She then replaces the family she could have had by climbing to the Top of the World only to find it empty, to be built up to be broken, by soulless companies for profit.
Great ensemble. I hear this undertone, a fusion inspired by Bjork, Amy Whinehouse and Lily allen. So happens I love all three. Kimbra is my most recent discovery and she never ceases to amaze me by her talent and unique sound.
Omg I cant believe I came back to this after so long. This amount of nostalgia is too much for me, i remember when i was only 7 my mom would always listen to kimbra outside with my dad. I miss the good times 😫
I have a confession, I really don't like the type of music she does, but I listen to it anyway, that voice. She is amazing! Just to conclude, this is her best song in my opinion.
When I was visiting home in the U.K. my dad burst into my old room, he kept my room the same when I left for Australia. He ask me what I was listening to and if I could put it in his phone so he could listen to it at work 🤣 my dad is now 63 and still raves about Kimbra
It's so heartbreaking watching how they evolve in a way. At the beginning you are thinking: A young girl and boy in love, how nice. But as it works towards the end you see more and more, they are very young. And when the girls come out to dance, that realization hits you. They are children. It just hits you like a rock to the stomach. Girls always want the perfect man, but when he turns out to not be who he seems, they work harder, pushing and hurting themselves to have the perfect life. It just is heartbreaking!
This is beautiful at the end she is the burnt faith in a relationship, the children are the faith in a good faithful relationship, this video needs more recognition.
Jon Miller I also noticed that the dolls and children could have represented naive, "fairytale" expectations of what a relationship would be like, and the burning of the dolls could represent the breaking of innocence and the letting go of past false notions and becoming mature after getting a taste of what real life is (possibility of affairs as shown by the picnic scene). The chorus may as well be speaking of the "revealing light" of truth. Although that's just me.
I can't believe it's been almost three years since I listened to this. Never thought she will become my favorite singer. God, I can't wait for her new album!!!
Kimbra is not one of those artists that will put illuminati, satanic symbols in her videos, or sell her soul for fame, she has made statements before that she will never change who she is for anyone, or her morals and views in life- that is WHY I think she is classy, has amazing talent, and is better than any of the singers out right now, we need to support her for being the image of real self confidence and that you can be something in life without taking your clothes off. I love her!
i don't care what others say, you are beautiful without this black dress and anything you wear or- don't i will love. love your artistry, your presence and, oh so alive. VIBRANT.
The elegance of a lady, the tenderness of two girls... That scene where the three of them dance! Picasso could not have created a better work. Kimbra's excellent voice... How much harmony this song has! I half understand the lyrics of the song (I mean: I don't know what message the author wants to convey) but I really enjoy listening to it. I feel relaxed. The video is priceless.
Close, Kimbra has done an interview on this song. She claims that it is more about the idea of marriage itself. That it is a bad thing to get roped into and that your independence is more important. Also, the idea of children playing the wife/mistress is to illustrate how young girls are 'indoctrinated' with the idea of marriage.
"i wanna bring you down, on just one knee.... for now" Kimbra understands the hearts and minds of some of us men. just because a man doesn't want to commit does not make him a jerk. a lot of us guys who shun commitment ARE jerks.... but a lot of us AREN'T... we're just guys who don't want to commit - no more, no less
PSA: I WANT EVERYONE TO KNOW THAT KIMBRA IS A KIWI THAT HAS SHAPESHIFTED INTO A HUMAN AND THAT ALL KIWIS IN NEW ZEALAND PRETEND NOT TO KNOW HERE BECAUSE THEN THEIR TRUE IDENTITY WOULD BE REVEALED!!! great artist.
Candy Alcarez Dude, it's a fucking voice. It has nothing to do with the ethnicity of the person. Of course, different ethnicities end up having different cultures and they form different music types. A voice is a voice though. Vocals don't sound "african" or "European", although accents may.
WHY DO I KEEP FORGETTING HOW GOOD THIS SONG IS

Andie Jakelin same
I love your style!
remember!!!
Listened to it for the first time last week. I will never forget
All these years later, this song is still genius. The lyrics, the melodies, the arrangement, the production, it's utter brilliance.
This song deserves all the awards. I'm listening in 2024 and it seems like it's timeless.
Very
I adore the way she dances, feels and projects the music through her movement. Lorde does it also and i don't understand why people hate it.
envious haters
Exactly! there's nothing wrong with it.
gdjicaDelRey people are stupid they listen to rap
She just moves her arms and legs nothing else...
they think its her "complaining about the way the world used to be" But she just made a choice to base it off of the 50s and it makes since she did it! so they are just trying to find little things "wrong" with it

I hate myself for discovering this 9 years late. This is so underrated.
You’re never late when you discover a queen’s masterpiece 👑
FR
First thing I did after the gotye song came out was Google "Kimbra" in 2012 or so
@@breslynmatthews6493 Queen? Haha she's alright. The dancing keeps me from taking her too seriously
Not meeeeeee
Whoever directed this video did a brilliant job making those little girls seem intense. It's creepy and cool at the same time.
Agree!
She wrote this song when she was 16 as a joke, and it's still amazing
waw impressive

Kimbra and Lorde------New Zealand is well represented in the music industry.
Kimbra* Lorde gives New Zealand a bad image.
Flight of the Conchords represent NZ far better than Lorde or this noise. Besides, I have it on good authority they ended racism in NZ!
RhaeRhae27 Wtf? Are you serious? Flight of the who? Lorde n Kimbra rulz...PERIOD. Oh n I'm from New Zealand.
Jorge Izquierdo
just curious why do you say that?
I’m from New Zealand ;-;

Honestly did u watch the doll house 1?

Glad you found it...I just found a video clip I've been looking for since the 90s lol
People think Kimbra is "weird", honestly I love how unique she is. Noone else would do something like this.

I looooved Kimbra. I miss listening to her music. How dare I forget her existence. I used to dream of naming my future child Nebraska Jones.
Nebraska is actually an amazing name lol
kimbra, please dont EVER change who you are!! we need more people like this.... unique
I just have to ask.... Is there anybody else whom's in love with her dress? :')
She is perfect in this video, specially her hair, in
It’s on backwards.
Yeah Wednesday Adams 😮
Always has been and always will be a masterpiece.
still an absolute banger!!

She's absolutely stunning.
Right, she is honestly beautiful too, she doesn't have all plastic surgery and whatnot.
I think she's gorgeous

Love her. She is unique... That vocal style and those spastic movements are not easily paired :)

sheesh😳tell me about it 🇰🇪so unique, full of life, theatrical and funny indeed
The video changes the meaning of the lyrics so much. That’s cool
How so? I disagree, but I'm curious as to your thoughts.
Still one of the top 10 performers today, in my book! I just dont get how she hasnt had more recognition. Boggles the mind!!
I have a confession, I really don't like the type of music she does, but I listen to it anyway, that voice. She is amazing!
Just to conclude, this is her best song in my opinion.
I love the timing on the floor pyro at 3:07. Clean choreography is great to watch. Add in a dose of flare to it and it's just awesome.
Honestly, you have to have in your ear phones to hear every single layer of this song it’s beautiful

Kimbra has a way of making everything beautifully creepy...
i remember listening to this when it first released. Loved it always!
Kimbra has such a hypnotizing appeal about her. Her voice should be used in the next James Bond movie...pure class
Oh my god, She is GORGEOUS! I love her music!
The way she's dancing and fire burn behind her, it's all my mood now

I love the 1930's 40's sound she has in her voice it works very well with her music style.
I looove her dancing!!! Why does it bother people so?
I am so mad this is only in 360p.
+bench175 It used to be up in 1080p so I don't even know what happened. All her videos used to be up in 1080p.
it's surprisingly good for 360p though!
Just search for "Settle Down" on TH-cam: the first result is the 1080p video on the Forum5Recordings channel, since 2010...

tbh kimbra dabbed AND had people do the mannequin challenge before it was cool
She also did the running man
I think kimbra is amazing. She has a unique singing style that no one can copy and i love her music!
This is totally not the music I listen to... I listen to a lot of hip hop, pop and contemporary but I am quite addicted to this song haha.

I love her dancing. :)
Her dancing is addictive.
I love her kinda dorky dancing, it goes so well with the beat.
how is she not mega famous
weak songs. needs better composers. the talent is definitely there and it's already honed and polished.
their anything but weak, well 90's music sucked but the rest of her stuff is leagues better than anything in the top 100 right now
She is more talented than her songs. She can do much much more
ill give you that but it sure is still better than anything in the top 100 right now
In this day and age to become "mega famous" she would need to sacrifice the quality of her music and allign herself with a corporation.
I want to call my daughter Nebraska Jones
ahaha
HER DRESS OMG!
1:03 best dancing EVER
