Settle Down Lyrics:
I wanna settle down
I wanna settle down
Won't you settle down with me?
Settle down
We can settle at a table..
A table for two
Won't you wine and dine with me?
Settle down
I wanna raise a child
I wanna raise a child
Won't you raise a child with me...
Raise a child
We'll call her Nebraska
Nebraska Jones
She'll have your nose
Just so you know
I wanna settle down
I wanna settle down
Won't you settle down with me?
Settle down
Run from Angela Vickers
I saw her with you
Monday morning small talking on the avenue
She's got a fancy car
She wants to take you far
From the city lights and sounds deep into the dark
Star so light and star so bright
First star i see tonight!
Star so light and star so bright
Keep him by side!
I wanna settle down
I wanna settle down
Baby there's no need to run
I'll love you well
I wanna settle down
It's time to bring you down
On just one knee for now
Lets make our vows - เพลง
I love the way she says "Nebraska, Nebraska Jones" for some reason
I though she wanted to name her kid "The fast car" first time i heard it.
Reminds me of Michael
Me too
It's really nice
Is that Indy's son?
To be honest, I love the way Kimbra awkwardly dances.
It's awkward but on beat, I'm sorry but that's like a skill. Who else can do that?! Love Kimbra, she's awesome.
Same i love her dancing 👌👌
punchy9214 I agree, it is on beat. I love it
kyle dominic I think Kimbra is pretty.

i'm so glad people are getting into kimbra, she has such an INCREDIBLE voice!!
@Peter Evans why?
@Peter Evans I don’t understand. Why did it end her career?
@@CoooolRocks it’s supposedly sexist and retrograde. It also uses kids to portray the story. Personally I don’t think this is the reason her career ended but I guess I’m not that well informed.
……..why did you do this under my comment 💀 this is a song/video from her first album and she has two other wonderful albums that i hope people also enjoy………..……. anyway, her voice is incredible and i’m glad people are getting into her lmao
I like her lips.
sometimes Kimbra looks like a doll, other times she looks like an egyptian goddess, she's just so versatile

@Noah Gabel huh
@Noah Gabel ok
I think that might be the point. To me, the video looks like a critique on perceived expectations of traditionalism. "Have a family, settle down, get married, have kids."
lol. it's funnier to me because I started singing this in the mic during gameplay. My teammates were so unhappy they joined the enemy, but the ememies started humming along with me. Friday got weird in this early morning.

Just discovering this lady. She is truly talented
You didnt know about somebody i used to know

@Nick Gurr Not from New Zealand but definitely knew about it before Somebody That I Used To Know because of older siblings.
You won’t regret it ! I’ve been listening her since I was in middle school !! That was about 8 years ago
if anything, this started her career
I’m oddly mesmerized by the way she dances in this.
That's her thing. One of the reason why I love her so much. 😂
Me too. Its very classic. Has a 50's style to it.
Same. The way she dances is so whimsical and calming. She's like a little doll or a puppet that's being pulled with strings attached to her as she dances. ❤
Its kind of adorable.

But anytime I mention this song to someone, they've never heard the song. I performed this song in front of my school once and every person who spoke to me said they'd never heard the song. And if you disagree with, no worries! Opinions are opinions(:

Skye Wheeler Yeah i get what you're saying i would be pretty cool if it was better known.
Heard this song when it came out 12 years ago. I was 17. Kimbra was about 19. She really was ahead of her time. I loved the track then but wow, it resonates so much more now.
After all these years, such a fresh and unique song. Love Kimbra!
this literalyy came out ages ago when music was good
I like how the two girls in white are in perfect harmony while doing the same dance moves while Kimbra is in black doing her own thing. Like Order and Chaos.
Those two white girls are the same girls that played as wives in this video

@Justin Seers I concur
@@fastandbulbous9697 what number of views have to do with being properly rated as a song/video?
This song sounds just as good as when it came out. She was just so way ahead of her time
This is good music, but how was this ahead of its time? I didn't see or hear anything groundbreaking to justify being called ahead of its time. Not trying to be a douche but I just wondered what made you say that.
I think she was ahead of her time, if she'd been discovered now she's give people like Billie Eillish and Dua Lipa a run for their money
I think ahead of time means people/artists don't get the credit that they deserve at the time. But,if it had come out later, in would have been everywhere. Unfortunately, it's a double edge sword to be that. I personally would rather be considered ahead of my time than being everywhere-denoting usually rich and famous. Well, I'd take the riches but not the fame! Lol. I love my anonymity!
Ya I feel like Melanie Martinez was kinda inspired by this
"ahead of her time"
You are basic. Can you get more generic?
This song is definitely a very underappreciated classic!
For anyone that's confused, this song is about how girls are taught conform to certain roles like marriage/love, at an early age. Throughout the video, the girl is learning, cooking, cleaning etc(settling), while the man is not doing much of anything (in terms of marriage), for example the scene at the park where the man is still.
Showing that the relationship is pretty much as good as a mannequin and mannequins are not really good for anything except display, maintaining an illusion or convincing you to buy into something, when it's not always sunshine and rainbows.
The white dress (innocence) and the dolls being burnt shows that the little girls are not left alone to be children and innocent, but instead given roles and values to play etc.
Meanwhile, Kimbra is wearing black because she has grown yet still while being influenced by the ideals that society expects from her, she chose to be free from them.
There's a lot more to it but hope that gives you some thought, for anyone that did read :)
Thoughtful and thorough breakdown! Thanks!

It wasn't out of nowhere. Your subconscious is trying to tell you something. If you think about it you'll almost always find the song is connected with something going on in your life.
That's joywave isn't it?
10 years later and this song still gives me CHILLS cause Kimbra is a Queen
I discovered Kimbra back in 2012 when I had met a nice lad from Hamilton, NZ. He said he knew Kimbra after our music discussions somehow landed on "now you're just somebody that I used to know" and suggested I give her a listen. From there I dove head first into her music and she quickly became one of my favorite artists of all time. I will never understand why she doesn't like Vows. I know it wasn't completely hers or as personal like her other albums but I always wait for the day when I'll hear another album as brilliant as this one. Cheers Kimbra, keep writing your story.
Kimbra and Lorde should do a song together with their unique dance moves !!!!! OMG I WANT IT SO BAAAAD

is the entire album so distinctive in sound? I am blown away with this song. extremely rich in composition, deep in substance and commentary.
The first half is. Maybe the rest isn't quite as strong, not bad though. It's an excellent EP's worth of material either way.
In my opinion, Vows is one of the best debut albums I've ever heard, in any genre...
Over a decade and I’m just now listening to this bop! Kimbra we all love your work
Still listening and awkwardly dancing in 2024 🫶🏿
I LOVE this song. it makes me think of how we dream of something for so long and find out its not what we need at all.
I love your perspective on this song! It makes a lot of sense
+Tay♡Bay I agree completely with this interpretation. That's why the video features young girls (the hopes expressed in the song are juvenile) and burning dolls (the death of innocence/childhood as the hopes are fulfilled and outcomes are lacking)
I remember watching this a few years ago and thinking "this is so weird", but watching it now I absolutely love it.

This video is my absolute childhood.
A few months ago I found my small old iPod I had when I was around 4yrs old, and this music video was saved on it.
I remember, as a child, listening to her sing repeatedly and watching her dance, I was simply mesmerized & entertained.
Obviously; when I was a child, I didn't understand what she was talking about.
Although I do remember copying the way that girl's skirt was laid, resting on the ground.
I do remember that nostalgic heartthrob whenever I am to watch those dolls burn.
Her dancing is also very nostalgic...
:) I'm happy.
So proud I found this when I was 10 :,) x

Well you have a username that was relevant in 2011. Krosis...
saaame it used to play on C4 and the other NZ music channels a lot and i LOVED it everytime it came on haha. thank god for youtube now!
Thought I was the only one that danced that way. Good to know I'm not alone.
I do too. My dancing is mostly shoulders, since I dance sitting down and doing other things a lot, and spinning and weird, jerky, just-decided-to-do-this movements. But I guess that's just how white girls dance. I like to say I dance so bad looking because it comes from the 'soul' or whatever you want to call it instead of choreography of any kind. As Eminem would say, you just let yourself go.
emurphy66 I'm not a white girl though, at least I wasn't the last time I checked and saw a penis :c

This gave me "I'm not the only one" vibes, where the young girl is trying so hard to be the perfect wife so that he won't go away with the other girl, but he's still not at the table. The powerful thing is that the two girls are faced with one another other at the end, and they realise that they themselves are not the enemy in the situation, but the image of perfect wives and mistresses being a normal thing, and not respecting themselves in letting the guy do whatever he wants and still get away with it - that is the enemy. Therefore; rather than attacking each other, they unite in dance, and the dolls (which represent the whole image and idea of perfect little conforming wives and mistresses, in my idea) start to burn when they come together and the man isn't even a part of the picture by then, because of them being together and respecting each other.
I'll also add that the pain in the voice in the lyrics at the empty table part is so powerful for me, in how much she desires for her man to stay and be with her, and has only the "stars so bright" to ask him to stay because that is the only power she has in the situation, and it's so painful
Ah! And then you have the girls with the "Hey! Oh oh!" at the very end calling other people to be the same and start looking at these issues of what they had lived :)
Of course, that's just one interpretation, but that's what I got from it ;) May each enjoy their own view, as I have certainly enjoyed reading people's ideas. :) cheers!
I think your interpretation is exactly right. You're a smart cookie. However, it makes me sad, because judging by the lyrics alone I wouldn't have assumed it was more liberal bullshit, but alas, it pervades everything I love. The music video ruined the song for me, but I thought it was beautifully choreographed.
@@brianstanton8296 Everyone experiences heart break in one way or another. There's nothing political about that. This song and video are from the perspective of a woman, and maybe that woman grew up in a wholesome house with good parents and assumed that if she just followed along with that pattern, she'd find a relationship like that. Maybe she grew up in a broken home and wants the story book domestic life that she never saw growing up.
Either way, she found out that life isn't as simple as that and there are a lot of people in the world who won't cherish you the way you want and need to be cherished. It's a sad lesson, but it's a lesson that most people learn the same way. Could have just as easily been a video about a boy or young man who does his best to stand up for the weak, who is honest and humble, and gets walked all over by a girl who just wants the "bad boy."
Wish she did more of this style of music .she changed alot but still love her voice .shes got a voice like no other.
