She deserves far more recognition. Mostly she's known for her contribution in Somebody That I Used to Know, but her music is way better than what she did there. She's fun to listen to.
Juan Carlos Alvarado Morones, I know right. Her music is great, no cheap cheating, and can actually sing. She wrote all of this song. She knows what he is doing. She needs more fame, she deserves it.
I’m back 10 years later! Absolutely love this song and Settle Down!! Can’t believe it’s been 10 years already! I still feel the same way I did back then today!
honestly one of the greatest pop songs ever made, it is so sonically dynamic and nothing ever stays the same in this song, there are so many subtle touches that work together phenomenally, from the fact that the harmonies and melodies clash with one another, fitting into the theme of kimbra trying to "open up your heart", to the key change, the fact that the chorus changes FOUR fucking times after the key change, the double tracking throughout the track, just phenomenal. kimbra should've been one of the main pop stars and i'll die on that hill
She should have been, but she speaks ill of Vows and has done everything in her power to distance herself from pop music. She seems to want to dabble in a new genre with each album. But with the last 2, it appears she has found her home. Hopefully, she has recognition in the sphere of Bjork someday, since that experimental style seems to be more up her alley.
Like a modern Betty Page. I can't get over her talent and voice. I found her around the time she made this because she a sung on that Gotye hit "Somebody That I Used to Know". I'm just catching up on her newer stuff, but I recommend searching for her (Live in studio) Grizzly Bears / Tears for Fears mashup.
I love the end of this video because they're cheering him on to "open up his heart" and it's like watching the last football game of the season its like you can feel the adrenaline
The thing with Kimbra's music is that it's too advanced for the times. Like in 2014, "90s Music" was just too experimental for me...and now in 2016 when I listen to current mainstream American pop, I feel like it's going to that direction.
This song is so chock-full of beautiful harmonies and melodies it's like a long unending sugar rush. And still, Kimbra actually *waits* all the way until 3:15 to play the REAL ace in the deck. You think your're already as high as you're gonna get - and then that bom-bom-bom melody hits and your HEAD EXPLODES! 🤯🎉😍
I started crying with this song. It could have been me she's singing to. Couple of years ago wouldn't have thought twice about this song. I have a very good psychologist now, and am becoming human..man thinking about all the women that I hurt..who said this to me and tried...she nailed it,thanks Kimbra.
+Falcy Chead I find it weird that I actually don't. I love her voice, style, and think she's gorgeous. But her dancing strikes me as kinda Elaine Bettis herky-jerky. Guess I'm more of a Josey Shuffles kind of guy. Still can't stop watching her however.
"Somebody that I used to know" came on the radio today, so I'm going on a Kimbra binge today. Why that song became an international success and not everything Kimbra has made is one of the great injustices in the world.
For the music theory nerds out there, the harmony in this song is really unconventional and interesting. It starts out firmly in Gb, with the lead-up to the chorus making it clear that the key will stay the same ("all gotta break down, ..." : V7/ii - (iii - bII7/ii) - ii - V7). However, the first Gb of the chorus, which we're expecting to be the I, inexplicably becomes recontextualized as the IV, first with the #11(C) in the descending portion of the line played by the plucked strings, and then more irrevocably with the repeating ii - iii - IV - V in Db of the "open up your heart, ..." section. The effect is jarring but fresh, and quite unlike anything I can recall ever hearing in tonal harmony. It makes sense from a songwriting perspective too because of how it matches with the lyrics ("all gonna break down..." just before the unexpected key change, and the repeated "open up your heart" as our ears adjust, or open up, to the new key center.)
@@criskp6861 Kimbra pulls off a very sneaky key change in the chorus, in a way that should sound amateurish and directionless, but ends up being interesting and even sophisticated because of how subtly and skillfully she lands it.
I only intended to listen to a minute of the song, just to see what all the fuss was about. I've just realized that I've replayed it 8 times now, and I'm going for a 9th.

Rediscovering Kimbra and she was so underrated all these years ago with her own unique style and mixing on genres. An absolute bombshell then and even know. I remember having a huge crush on her then, turns out I still got it. 😂
This video had me cheering by the end! When she's trying to convince the last guy to open up his heart I'm just like "COME ON! COME ON!" like I'm cheering on a team running for a touchdown. And when he comes up pink It's just "YEEEEEEEEEEES! *Dancing and jumping* "

in your black hole

let me come and break down with you
cos everydays like talking in ur sleep!

open up your heart!
open up your heart and let me pull you out of here
ive got high hopes baby
but all you do is take me down to depths that i never knew
you've got two arms baby
they're all tangled in ladies of the black skies posing blue
let go of your mother
and turn to your brother!
not a long gone lovers noose
sometimes baby the hardest part of breaking is leaving pieces behind you
we've all gotta get by
let me come and hold you high, with you
cos everydays like talking in ur sleep!
love is like a silhoeutte in dreams!
open up your heart!
open up your heart and let me pull you out of here
open up your heart to me!
the sun won't shine if you're not looking

Rediscovering Kimbra and she was so underrated all these years ago with her own unique style and mixing on genres. An absolute bombshell then and even know. I remember having a huge crush on her then, turns out I still got it. 😂
I've spent so long trying to find this song. This was a childhood song and I'm so glad I found it :')
KIMBRA WE BETTER SEE YOU BACK GIRL YOURE ICONIC AND YOUR MUSIC IS ONE OF A KIND!!!
OMG! they got him pink of all colours! lol
and not to mention his eyes which i think are jus hypnotizing ^.^
#LOVEIT
This video had me cheering by the end! When she's trying to convince the last guy to open up his heart I'm just like "COME ON! COME ON!" like I'm cheering on a team running for a touchdown. And when he comes up pink It's just "YEEEEEEEEEEES! *Dancing and jumping* "
haven't listened to this song in a while, fell in love all over again 💖
Love her. Very talented woman. I rock her music all the time, her club jams are sweet. Listening to her club performances is the best, she's the best. God bless you honey! ❤
I was a kid when I saw this song on TV and now I am finally at peace that I found it.
I was so in love with this song and video omg
I wish Kimbra got more attention on the radio.
i agree me too but i think this is one of her best , the album is good but this song tops
Kimbra's dancing is one of the reason why I love her so much.
