    The Corolla Cross is the downscaled RAV 4 and the Venza is the upscale RAV4. Toyota is getting a lot of money for this platform.

    I'm on the waiting list for the 2023 Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid. I changed it from the Corolla Hatchback because the Hatchback you can not put a hitch to tow (as per the users manual) but you can with the Cross.

    The RAV4 (and CRV) grew almost a class in size. Toyota needs the Corolla Cross like Honda needs the HRV to replace the size vehicles that the RAV4 and CRV left behind.

      Well said. Even though CRV/RAV4 are getting bigger, their still efficient. I don't like the fact their getting bigger, but they are selling.

    Seems like the reason they have to keep the non-hybrid around is to compete at the lower price. The hybrid drivetrain seems to add $5000 to the price of the non-hybrid equivalent. I totally agree that the hybrid takes it from a non-starter (for me) to something I would consider if I needed a CUV appliance, but at a starting price of $28k rather than $23k, there are a lot of buyers for whom the hybrid is over budget. In particular if you are only looking at fuel consumption (and ignoring the drivability improvement, as many non-enthusiasts will do), breakeven will take 10-12 years by my figuring at current gas prices -- too long for the price difference to be easily swallowed.

    • @jeffrey3280
      @jeffrey3280 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I can't agree more. The price of cross hybrid is too high. The corolla cross hybrid se is 30k, but you only need 33k to get a Rav4 hybrid se.

      True but most won't buy the more powerful engine in a line up to get improved mileage but to get more power, the non hybrid seems too lethargic to be considered imho

    I didn’t have a problem with the gas model XLE. It drove great, I thought it was effortless, maybe because of the “1st gear” help from the AWD. I got 35 mpg renting it for the weekend. I plan on buying one, preferably the hybrid model. But I would buy that XLE I rented. I may not have a chance at a hybrid. I can’t even check one of those for insurance cost. There aren’t any.

    One thing to remember about fuel economy though, diminishing returns! While going from a 14mpg truck to a 23mpg truck will save you ~$1500 a year, going from 33mpg combined of say a non-Hybrid Nissan Rogue to the 42mpg combined for the Hybrid Corolla Cross will save you only ~$330 a year, even though both have a 9mpg difference. Go 9mpg better than the Corolla Cross, and now you're only saving $200 a year... so food for thought, as you may never recoup the added cost of the hybrid if you're paying the dealer markups that exist on most hybrids right now.

      That's because efficiency ratings in freedom units is back to front. Other countries use L/100km ie consumption for a set distance, rather than distance for a set consumption. Improving from 6L/100km to 5L/100km is the same benefit as improving from 15L/100km to 14L/100km.

    Hi, from Japan!! Sounds like Paul’s voice has not been healed yet. Are you okay?? Japanese car manufacturers are building a lot of types of SUVs. Many little SUVs are in Japan. Honda Vezel, Toyota Raize, Suzuki Jimmny. It doesn’t matter who you are. Many women want to own SUV. Many old people want to own SUV. Young people want to own SUV. That’s why car manufacturers build many SUVs. In Japan, some people believe Hybrid is way better than EV. They think other countries’ car manufacturers don’t want to adopt Hybrid because Toyota is very good at building Hybrid. For beating Toyota, they adopt EV for their future not Hybrid. We don’t know which choice is correct for car future. Let’s see it in our future.

    And sorry if I sound mean, but you guys have not really told us (viewers) much of anything in this video EXCEPT the gas version of Corolla Cross shouldn't exist.

  • @dwu9369
    @dwu9369 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You go with the hybrid version ONLY if you wan the extra performance but if you're buying this to save money on gas, you won't break even at 10 years later driving this as a daily 50 miles round trip 5 days a week for work. On top of added up front cost of getting the hybrid plus additional sales tax, the insurance premiums on the hybrid is an added sunk cost.

    i have the corolla cross with 2.0 engine. i use extreme driving style to get 5.0L/100km, which is 49 MPG. i never go over 100km/h, seldom let the engine go over 2500rpm when accelerating and hyper mill when ever possible. so l smile when i see the gas pump, and its a different kind of fun to squeeze for MPG.

    Never ever ill pay 35k on a second version of the Ford Cmax hybrid

  • @srinip
    @srinip ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This is all very well, but there are some ambiguities here. First of all, he mentions that this configuration costs $35K, although technically, the MSRP is less than $32K. What option packages does it have and what do they cost? Second, does the power liftgate come with the XSE, or is it an option? Do dynamic grid lines in the backup camera come with the XSE, or does it need a package (which, in turn might prereq yet another package, like the RAV4)? Third, what is the point of even mentioning prices when dealers are still tacking on $6K or $7K of "market adjustment" fees? You could be paying $42K for a Corolla Cross (I've seen that kind of markup for a regular Cross where I live).
    Is it really worth it at that price?

    Imo they should bring over the big screen from the overseas model for 2024!! The bezels on this 8 inch is unacceptable on the XSE. It’s fine on the S and SE but not the XSE. It should have the 10 inch display. It’ll be great if they made this hybrid only like the sienna but I guess they want to be able to say the CC starts at 22K vs 28K🙃 also it’ll be nice to have the Corolla hatchback in hybrid form!

    The main problem with the hatch IMO, and it really spoils such an amazing car, are these things:
    - No hybrid option
    - low roof -> worse seating experience/cargo flexibility
    - VERY cramped rear legroom
    - quite poor seats-down cargo space (only 41cuft combined!)
    The Cross Hybrid here solves these issues, especially since it has about 60cuft cargo space... though legroom is still a relatively cramped scenario in the back.

  • @HumbleBearcat
    @HumbleBearcat ปีที่แล้ว +1

    1) I would spend the extra money for the hybrid because I like to have enough power. (2) The cheaper L or LE gasoline powered Cross would make sense for like elderly people who rarely get on the freeway or long trips but just go to markets or local restaurants & places without spending too much money & just want a simple & versatile transportation. (3) The upper end gasoline powered Cross don't make sense. For the money, I would just pay a little more and get the hybrid version or RAV4. (4) I wish Toyota makes a larger hatchback version like the Civic Hatchback instead of current chopped-up-bud hatchback, plus this hybrid engine.
