  • The Toyota Corolla Cross small SUV range offers a lot for family buyers to think about.
    It has a choice of petrol or hybrid powertrains (including 2WD and AWD petrol-electric), it can run on EV power in some situations, it has a really strong ownership program, heaps of safety, and is nicely sized, too.
    With a big boot, nice back seat accommodation, a decent interior and some models with a lot of nice equipment included, there's a bunch of reasons why this could be the right car for you.
    Watch the video to see if there are any standout reasons why it might not be, too...

      The secret is to order where people
      Don’t order these like near farms and go to small Toyota dealers, wait times seem to be different, I ordered in feb and was told 8 months to a year next minute it’s coming in April at the start !

    • @nightowlnzab

      It's available this year, if you ordered when it came out (i.e. late last year) 😉 I ordered in Sept, and it's due May/Jun. In NZ they only sell the hybrid, and orders closed a few months after release, now similar to the RAV4 you can only register for 2024.

    Just solid, reliable cars. We have had a couple of Corolla 4wd Wagons and one is still going 33 years old now. I quite like the unfussy design of the cross and think the sweet spot is the GXL hybrid AWD. The USA get a light interior as well which is a lot less gloomy inside.

    Nice detailed review Matt. When I called my friendly local Toyota dealer to arrange a test drive of the hybrid, he informed me that the current waiting time was 3 years. I'm sure Toyota would not exaggerate this figure for fear of losing sales, so that was a deal breaker for me. Pity - seems like a good thing.

    • @JPStaats
      @JPStaats 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The e-CVT is an integrated part of the hybrid transmission system Toyota has perfected over the last 20 years - it’s bullet proof and in its 5th generation. If you want to make these cars unreliable, couple it to a conventional auto clutch system in and weep…

    Yes, except the waiting list for the Corolla Cross hybrids is now on par with hybrid RAV4 and Camry and Corolla hybrids, i.e. 2 years. I don't have the patience to wait 2 years for a new car. There are other options now, including the EVs and non-Toyota hybrids.

    • @therightcar
      @therightcar  ปีที่แล้ว

    The waiting time for RAV4 was 2 years when I went to Toyota dealer near Warwick Farm. The Cross Atmos is the same. The GX and GXL were 6-8 months. @therightcar  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi mate. Yeah, that’s a bit tough. Don’t bank on it coming early!
      The seat fits fine. The doors don’t open as wide as in the Nissan - so it can be a bit more of a squeeze to get in and out with a baby in your arms. But yeah, in terms of space, you’ll fit a rearward capsule or a forward facing seat with room ahead for a front seat passenger.

    Just about the ideal daily driver for most people. I'd wait for "series 2" to come out in a few years so they can iron out the little bugs. Plus, it might take Toyota 2 years to catch up on backorders anyway. How the largest car manufacturer in the world can't work out how to make enough of these (and the RAV4's) is beyond me. Forget Covid, chip shortages etc, factories have had enough time to get back into full swing. Makes me wonder if car companies are intentionally constraining manufacturing output so they can add 20% profit margin to make up for the Covid days. This is a $40,000 car being sold for $50,000 because they can get away with it. They are opening the door to Nissan, Mazda, MG and other brands who can get the cars out the factory door.

      That’s terrific feedback - but unfortunately, it’s not me who gives you ads, it’s TH-cam. And I need to use the advertising revenue to pay myself a wage. So, if you will support the channel and subscribe, it would be appreciated. You can pay for ad-free TH-cam Premium, but that’s your call. Thanks.

      All cars are available to order. I’m reviewing cars that people are interested in.

    It is kind of ugly and old looking from the sides and back. It does remind me of an early 00s version of the Rav 4, which I recall was also built on the Corolla platform.

      I agree it’s not the most modern or sharply styled car they make. But if you want a more adventurous looking compact crossover, the C-HR is the go.

      Well, I didn't go off-road. But I wouldn't venture too far off the beaten path in ANY small SUV. Except a Jimny or the new Crosstrek from Subaru.

      Disagree. It’s a bigger, better car for families than the Corolla hatch.
