      Historian definition.
"An expert in or student of history, especially that of a particular period, geographical region, or social phenomenon.
      i.e a military historian"
In this case we are for a wrestling historian. That's something that describes Jim Cornette perfectly as he has studied the history of professional wrestling as much as anyone has. He has also authored and co-authored some wrestling history books.

Let me ask you something, would you like to run a company that is a mess, but is successfull. • @cmc5394oparva

@mak0321 It's a bit complicated because every territory had its own rules, but basically, these guys wrestled almost every day even back then, sometimes twice a day on the weekends. A lot of these guys that came up in the business in the 70s have talked about how they'd wrestle at one town in the morning, then get in a car and drive all day to wrestle another show at night in a different town. They'd just bounce from town to town in the territory working house shows if there wasn't a TV taping; that's actually where a lot of their promo work and refinement of the move set was done. Often, a veteran was placed with a rookie/younger wrestler to serve as a mentor/travel buddy, so they could talk shop during the drives between shows.
However, there was a lot more emphasis on wrestling as a story-telling, especially with kayfabe in place. The advent of cable made it more of a soap opera, and when Vince essentially killed kayfabe in the early 90s, it was a matter of time before the product lost its luster. Watch a WWE show now, and the crowd is fucking dead more often than not, unless there's some stupid high spot where the wrestler damn near kills himself (thank ECW and its slack-jawed fanbase for making that a feature of the business).

The match is remarkable because they do 3 or 4 spots and spend the WHOLE rest of the match just working the crowd clockwise...and the crowd is going APESHIT. The people are up out of their seats raising enormous hell, and everybody's just too worked up to realize how little those two really did. Nobody in the business today can do magical shit like that.

Jim Cornette is to wrestling, like Bert Sugar was to Boxing. The guy was an encyclopedia of boxing. And Jim Cornette is a living, breathing Encyclopedia of all things Wrestling! I enjoy listening to his interviews and podcast clips, and I'm sure you could spend hours talking to him about the entire history of wrestling.

It's unfortunate that Cornette buys into the Fall Guys book, which happened to have been ghost written by Toots Mondt himself in order to further his own place in wrestling history. The entire term "Gold Dust Trio" was a term coined by Mondt himself. It elevated him to a plateau equal to Strangler Lewis and Billy Sandow, as I reckon Mondt was pretty dissatisfied with his overall place in the organization as resident trainer/torturer. It was never attached to the group in any newspaper accounts of the 1920s.

I have Marcus Griffin's book. It's a fascinating read but it does exaggerate some info on the Gold Dust Trio. Steve Yohe's biography of Ed Lewis serves as a great companion piece. I think the footnotes which point out the skewed info in Fall Guys is still available on wrestling-titles for the beta version of the book.

I get why he's not involved in the business now and why he doesn't want to be near the current promotions, but the idea that he has no place in professional wrestling is like not going into a gold mine because it's dark n' scary. His contributions could be so valuable to anyone who knows what to do with them, but it seems the real wrestling treasure trove that is his mind will be lost to time. Helluva shame...

I think if Cornettes problem is that he is so out of touch and do not seem to understand "ironic wrestling", aka Orange Cassidy, Broken Hardy. Why don't he start a own wrestling organization giving his fans what they like? He have the skills right?

He did that. 1991 to 1995. Smoky Mountain Wrestling. Based out of Knoxville and had a rich backer from LA. Unfortunately he formed it at a time where territory wrestling was practically dead in the water due to WWF and WCW.
