I am afraid that even second to second the grit of the old film won't translate right and would take a step back in the presentation. Let alone of some shmuck would add to it "clean it up". They wanted him as a manager, to help make Yokozuna look legitimate enough for Lex Luger to get over as their next Hulk Hogan like babyface, by beating him at Wrestlemania. The problem for the WWF was, Jim was happy running, booking and managing his own small territory Smokey Mountain Wrestling. However he was always interested in furthering ties with one of the major promotions and would be willing to work dates with one of them if it benefits smokey Mountain in return. Plus he was never going to stand in the way of any of his guys getting an opportunity like the Heavenly Bodies did versus the Steiners. So you had Jim Cornette wanting to further his companies interests, help 2 of his wrestlers get a big opportunity and the WWF were also admittedly needing some fresh bodies for the Steiner's to wrestle and The Steiner's and Cornette had mutual respect and a history of sorts and Jim was only too happy to work with Rick and Scott again. However once they got Jim's foot in the door, he was asked to be Yoko's American spokesman/manager, something he'd probably never have committed to, if he'd been asked beforehand but seeing as he was already there, he agreed to do it because he's thinking "Eh I'm already here, it's good for business relations between SMW & the WWF. Besides I can manage it."
This is why I'd rather sit an hour or two at Cornette's feet than a single second at Russo's. His love and respect for the pro wrestling business is simply inspiring.

Met him back in 2014 at a con. I got to spend about 45mins to an hour in 2 days just talking with him. One of the nicest people you will meet. I've learned more from wrestling from talking with him then I did my 18 years of watching it and reading about it in all my years. Very smart guy who knows what he is talking about
Jim talking about title belts is spot on. I made championship belts when I was younger. It was ingrained in my mind that the belt was a huge symbol of where you were in the company. Now Vince would get rid of belts if he could.
I sold Jim a TV when I worked at Best Buy in Louisville, KY back in the early 2000s. I remember being super stoked just to be in his presence. Very nice guy and I’m glad he’s doing well.

I used to be the same way, I'm not a fan of his persona as a manager, but him irl and being such a fanatic and wrestling historian I could watch him talk about wrestling for hours. You see the excitement in his eyes talking about the history, jim actually cares about wrestling and it's legacy. Imagine how good wwe could be if Vince cared about it 1/2 as much.

People dismiss him as a cranky old man but when he starts giving out data like attendances, ratings shares, and paychecks adjusted for inflation he has a point about the business being better in the past. When he gets going on modern wrestling he turns into just an old man bitching that things aren't like they were when he was young and banging rats all the time. I've always wanted to point out that for someone who hates republicans so much, when it comes to pro-wrestling he sure as hell acts just like one.
He has a podcast however, I do agree that he should make a video documentary and Vice Land would be the right people to work with unless he's capable of pulling off on his own or with another format that is worthy of it.
His interviews with Bobby the Brian are amazing. Cornette is the greatest living manager, his knowledge of things is like rain man, he’s ran his own promotion, could take bumps, one of the best talkers ever, and his commentary on MLW today is entertaining as always. He’s also hilarious.
In a perfect world, there would be a physical Wrestling Hall of Fame and Jim would be the curator. I don't always agree with him, especially on politics, but the man is the embodiment of history.

His Passion for Wrestling is infectious....he still seems like a kid in the candy store after so many years... we should all love something as much as Cornette loves Wrestling.
This man is a living legend and an encyclopedia of wrestling I'm honored to have seen his work live in the 80's in the sportatorium in Dallas as a kid, the absolute best wrestling manager ever, in my opinion.
He did an episode with Bobby Heenan where Jim did a tour showing him around Castle Cornette. Bobby knew 80% of the old time programs and wrestler photos that Cornette had and he talked about each one.
I can, and have, listen to his podcasts and YT videos all day. What a historian. He gets flack from a lot of people but its just because he loves the sport so much and is such a traditionalist he hates seeing the change. Keep it up Corney!! And that secret room is killer!

they need content of a particular flavor.... as it turns out pro wrestling history can indeed provide such content. the business has a wild and largely unrecognized history. kevin nash once called pro wrestling "the pirate ship" and i have to agree.
The main reason I believe would be he's got too much passion. When there is something he doesn't like in wrestling, he'll make damn sure everyone knows it, and some people don't like being told by someone that a guy they like, they shouldn't like.
Cornette seems like the kind of guy that you'd want to be your uncle or maybe your dad. Just a guy with a whole lot of knowledge and a lot of great stories to go with it. For what it's worth: Cornette did a far more extensive tour of his vault with RFVIDEO a few years back, worth checking out.
Jim Cornette deserves his own documentary, his own series, and a spot in every wrestling hall of fame. The sport owes the man damn near as much as is owes Vince, and Corny hasn’t even come close to how much Vince has wiped his ass with that respect.

He has a podcast however, I do agree that he should make a video documentary and Vice Land would be the right people to work with unless he's capable of pulling off on his own or with another format that is worthy of it.

I’m so thankful that we finally get to see The Wrestlers series on Vice. It’s already excellent and Damian is a legend for hosting it.
His interviews with Bobby the Brian are amazing. Cornette is the greatest living manager, his knowledge of things is like rain man, he’s ran his own promotion, could take bumps, one of the best talkers ever, and his commentary on MLW today is entertaining as always. He’s also hilarious.

In a perfect world, there would be a physical Wrestling Hall of Fame and Jim would be the curator. I don't always agree with him, especially on politics, but the man is the embodiment of history.

I'm a casual because I didn't know about something a vast majority of lifelong fans don't know about.

His Passion for Wrestling is infectious....he still seems like a kid in the candy store after so many years... we should all love something as much as Cornette loves Wrestling.
This man is a living legend and an encyclopedia of wrestling I'm honored to have seen his work live in the 80's in the sportatorium in Dallas as a kid, the absolute best wrestling manager ever, in my opinion.
He did an episode with Bobby Heenan where Jim did a tour showing him around Castle Cornette. Bobby knew 80% of the old time programs and wrestler photos that Cornette had and he talked about each one.

I can, and have, listen to his podcasts and YT videos all day. What a historian. He gets flack from a lot of people but its just because he loves the sport so much and is such a traditionalist he hates seeing the change. Keep it up Corney!! And that secret room is killer!

I grew up hating this guy as a child. Now as an adult, I absolutely think of him as ‘wrassling” genius.
I just love how happy he is when chronicling wrestling. It’s like I teleport back to the 90s and it’s me and my friends discussing Monday nights

they need content of a particular flavor.... as it turns out pro wrestling history can indeed provide such content. the business has a wild and largely unrecognized history. kevin nash once called pro wrestling "the pirate ship" and i have to agree.

The main reason I believe would be he's got too much passion. When there is something he doesn't like in wrestling, he'll make damn sure everyone knows it, and some people don't like being told by someone that a guy they like, they shouldn't like.
I don't think anybody loves anything more than Jim Cornette loves old school wrestling.

Cornette seems like the kind of guy that you'd want to be your uncle or maybe your dad. Just a guy with a whole lot of knowledge and a lot of great stories to go with it. For what it's worth: Cornette did a far more extensive tour of his vault with RFVIDEO a few years back, worth checking out.

Jim Cornette deserves his own documentary, his own series, and a spot in every wrestling hall of fame. The sport owes the man damn near as much as is owes Vince, and Corny hasn’t even come close to how much Vince has wiped his ass with that respect.
