You need to install a clutch brace. Those posts holding the clutch pads will bend out of alignment over time and make your clutch engage all the time with heavier springs. Ask me how I know 🙃
Reliving my youth, great fun those little bikes. Over here in the Netherlands we have clubs of mostly older men who ride in colonne on sunny days. Zündapps, Kreidler, Puch Skyriders, Floret, Honda ss50's etc. A sight to behold and nobody sees them as inferior just reliable economical transport. Have fun.
Find the carburetor air fuel mix screw. That will adjust your idle but rember exactly how many turns you make on the screw. It will let in more or less air/ fuel mixture depending on turning in or out. Cool moped.
I wonder how tricky it would be for you to get a Jawa Babetta over there in the states. It's a Czechoslovakian two stroke moped (very similar to the Puch) and has great tuning potential and lots of performance upgrades available. It was also built to cope with socialist city roads so it's very reliable and well put together! I have two, an '81 Babetta 207 and a '91 Babetta 210 both have been absolutely bulletproof even though I have not been very gentle with them. Definitely a quirky little bike you should look into!

I inherited one of the original model after my grandfather, it had terrible green paint but I did not care at the time, I was polishing the chrome parts in front of the house one time, then put the moped into the storage unit for the night. That very night it was stolen. I just hope it still serves someone well :)
what ignition is this? some kind of kokusan? you should try mvt premium, hpi or selettra kz wich i have on my puch with case induction, vforce3 reeds, 50cc athena and selfmade exhaust wich runs 52mph on 13:45 gearing. those ignitons wich i mentioned are much lighter than the original one and rev up much higher.
cool bike! The Puch Maxi is a classic from my youth! - My dad had one that topped out at 100km/h.... I however preferred the Vespa Bravo in my teens. I comepletely rebuild it looking like a 70ies rocker moped! -And I still own it now at age 40! -And yes, that slingclutch is a menace! :D

i didnt see anybody mention this yet but if you change out the transmission fluid for 0-20 full synthetic you will have more consistent clutch slip from cold to hot. also i trim the clutch weights down and try to use lighter springs so that the clutch doesnt have so much force on it because it will warp the clutch assembly as someone already mentioned. lastly you need to put some arugula in your carb that is where the magic happens.
I had a tomos top tank that I put a lot of work into, it had a pipe and upgraded carb. when it ran, it ran fast, was honestly a bit scary. But, the tank had rust, I had tried to clean and ran 2 fuel filters but the carb would still get clogged. Clogged carbs are a problem with any small engine...I have 50cc gy6 engines that suffer the same thing, just from sitting more than a couple of weeks. Tiny jets means easy clogging.
When pulling the clutch you should have the nut on it so you dont mess the threads up. Also the super stiffy springs are way better i think my clutch doesnt even engage til like 3500 rpms and then its instant power no slow take offs
Yea I know man! Unfortunately I think this engine has a lot of air leaks so the idle is really inconsistent. It drops super low sometimes and then other times it goes super high.

not sure why video showed in my feed, but love it, wish i had that kind of power in my youth, I rode these in the early to mid 1980's, 1 of which i put 120K miles on. yes with a top end rebuild, still have a few things stored away, including a hard tail frame, several engines, 1 & 2 speed models, probably a couple Thomas mopeds too. i i stopped riding them around 1988, when i turned 21, had a Honda and a Harley motorcycle, and sold my mopeds, what I have is what didnt sell. so what could be done to get this kind of power out of?
Hey man you also have a clutch for the puch with 3 shoes. This type of clutch makes more torqe and wil offer you better performance. I have a lot of mopeds zo geel free to ask me anything About mopeds

I think the issue you're having is an air leak. Maybe from changing to a kick start. You also might want to check the cylinder. I doubt it but it could be soft seizing.

What cylinder, head, and carb, does this bike have? Not sure if I said before, but I ride a red Kromag Puch Swinger 2, and have done a bunch of things to it, over 8 years. You riding tough tires, doing all those wheelies? I run Michelin City Pro's now, and they are standing up to Detroit roads- patched pot holes, brick roads, light rail/street car track hopping... Skinnier than 3" tires have the possibility of wedging in next to the rail tracks, we share the roads with, in some areas. They can make ya take a header right over the bars, if you're not quick.
Dellorto 19mm carb, and treatland.tv 70cc kit and head. Nothing special. And I haven’t ridden the bike too much since I put these new Mitas tires on so we will see how they last
@@TwoStrokeJ Ah, ok. You can get up to around 18-20hp out of the E50, with the right components. I'm mid-tuned, but for top end, not bottom end grunt. Right now, using a 17mm Bing from a Kreidler Florett RMC, on a further ported DMP 70 piston port, with a little fuego pipe. Kickstart springs in the two-shoe clutch, (og stock two-shoe. clutch is wearing faster now, than stock, with the higher rpm slip. I'm a fan of stock clutches. they were really well made, and tough.) but og pedal start.

I have a peugeot 103.... live overseas... hard to get info from the locals cause of the language barrier. love my moped....paid 60 bucks for it ....and it won't die. I seem to remember from ye olde times that the maxis tend to develop cracks and delaminations around the bottom of the gas tank when they get wheelied. i also seem to recall there being kits of braces one can install to prevent this. when it does happen, the frame is buggered so might be worth a quick google.
@@TwoStrokeJ i would highly recommend getting a am6 motor and then put it in whatever you want. From my experience the engines have some of the best potentials when tuned with something like a 80+cc kit.

Today an average Puch Maxi K can go as high as 4500 dollars here in Denmark, Europe. Im 32 and when I was teenager we bought and sold them all the time an they were 400-500 dollar back then.
I hope you someday have the luck to ride a simson S50 or S51. (mopeds from the eastblock) Best 50ccs there are with the biggest tuning scene living in east germany. Much love!! I have an S50 in green.

you have to put a 3 pieces coupling in it. and then with yellow feathers, this is the best setup for your puch

yea, luckily I think my tank is pretty clean, I've never had issues with the carb getting clogged

my dad had one of these lol. these little mobylette things were massively popular in the netherlands in the 60's or so.
You need to make youre moped to idle lower, if the wheel spins when it on the big foot then you need to make the idle lower =)

Your spark plug looks lean that can also cause your symptom gets hot. Rings cool down works fine for a while maybe that's why you had jets!
could be... but it's not overheating the engine is just getting to normal temp which is good. I think it was a little lean at full throttle tho
did you also change the crankshaft on the moped or just the cylinder and piston

I am going to keep them, because they give the bike a bit more acceleration when going from a stop. Not a huge difference but it is noticeable

and carb get a genuine 15 bing and a Paulini 64 cc kit they pull so hard
I had a 14mm bing paired with this 70 kit before and when I changed to the 19mm dellorto it made so much more power and torque it was crazy

Hey man great content love mopeds im from europe and we have so much of these things i love working on em and riding them i have a suggestion for a new project maybe, you should find a tomos a3 or a35 and build it up as you did your puch. we have lots of models here and im doing a project as well im working on a tomos apn 4 its a manual moped 4 speed shifter.
