    05:30 manual
    08:36 composite cable testing
    12:00 HDMI adapter testing
    22:42 conclusions
In this video I explain the video output connectivity for N64 and other Nintendo consoles, take an in-depth look at what's in the box, and test out the adapter with an unmodified N64 console on a 49" modern TV as well as offering my opinions on the product. There's also a look at the alternative option, comparing the quality of the signal from this adapter to the standard composite video cable.
I mainly wanted to get this adapter for use with the Nintendo 64 console, however if you'd like me to try it out with the SNES or GameCube in a future video let me know in the comments! I'd be happy to do that if there's a need.

The "No power cable" for this adapter is really the biggest selling point. It looks about on par with any other line doubling rca/hdmi upscale box, but freeing up the mess of having another power cable to mess with makes this a much more enticing option.

It looks like this adaptor compares to the Eon Super 64 but is only half the price. My GameCube is one of the later models without a digital out so I could use this with it too. These still wont give you the visuals of a hdmi modded 64 but this is perfect for a plug and play solution.

@@JoeBleeps I've had chance to try this cable now, initial impressions are good. Doesn't blow me away but a lot better than the original composite or RF signal to my HDTV. Are there any techie people in the chat that can help me with my issue with this adapter? The adapter shows the game on my TV when I connect it normally to the N64 via a HDMI cable. I also want to stream the gameplay on Twitch via a capture card and this is where the issue occurs.
I connect it up to my AVerMedia Live Gamer Extreme capture card and the N64 gameplay shows up on the RECentral software on my laptop but now, it doesn't show up on my TV, which I need to view in order to play my game (playing through the laptop screen has a little lag input delay).
What's causing the connection issue which prevents the gameplay from showing up on my TV, when the gameplay showed on-screen without the capture card attached?

I got this a few weeks ago & it ended up having a bent pin in the micro-USB port, but I used a small flathead to move it back into place. Then after updating the firmware, I found it reset the visuals all to 0 which resulted in a black screen. Had to figure out what settings to use by trial and error. Also, having to use the flathead multiple times because of the pin bending itself back, & going back & forth from PC to N64 to find the correct settings...
I think this product overall, is worth it. I got it for $40 off Amazon, and it definitely does look good on my 43" 4K Sony TV. I always seem to get back luck with products like this, (bent pin, black screen, etc.) so I am used to dealing with the hassles involved that normal people shouldn't have to deal with, although it was pretty bothersome at the time.
After all of that, tho, the image quality is really good. Far better than a standard AV or S-Video adapter would give it. My TV also does a pretty good job upscaling the 480p image the adapter outputs. It really does breathe life back into the old N64.

Definitely need to see this on the SNES! If the picture looks better than this could be something I would get, although you say it’s not an upscaler it does say it does 2x lines? That is essentially upscaling? And it also says that it takes 240p and makes it 480p? Surely that’s upscaling no?

    • @JoeBleeps
      @JoeBleeps  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

There's differences between upscaling and line doubling that I'll cover in the next video. It does make the image better but there's a limit, it can't create a 1080p signal. Anyway it's good to know there's demand for a SNES video too, I didn't want to cover all three in the one video as it would have become too cluttered. SNES coming next then!

I have the issue that after a few Minutes the picture starts to flicker when I go for Svideo smoothed.
Firmeware Update is done for Germany, but still same issue. Any idea how to solve that?
Greetings from a huge retro nerd

@@commonsensei8719 it is because our PAL consoles are built very cheap. You need to get a NTSC Version and then you gonna be able to use the value of this really good working adapter then finally ^_^

@@GamerDan89 YES!!!! YOU ARE RIGHT. I ve thought of this too and you are right! I know this is a dumb question but do i need to replace my game game collection with NTSC versions too? Im afraid so.. I was thinking of getting the NTSC versions of Waverace and MarioKart 64, since they run so much faster on NTSC anyway, and use a converter for my PAL console. But replacing the entire collection (and console) is a bit painful but yeah that is probably my next goal. Hopefully they fix the PAL flickering (S-Video - smoothing on) in another firmware update of the #KaicoN64LineDoubler

@@commonsensei8719 today on Gamescom, I was talking to tech guy who told me it was because of the lack of having powerfil compacitors.
On NTSC I couldn't play pal games cause they have a bit higher resolution but like you mentioned, also slower fps.
On Pal I could play ntsc (with the hardwaremod included), but they gave me troubles with my Mclassic.
So what I chose is Everdrive x7. There you can easily set up your ntsc roms while you are still collecting even Pal region based games ;)
The X7 switches automatically between pal and ntsc so you don't have to do anything but setting the rom files on it.
Also you save the longlife ability of your collection cause you don't need to insert and eject them all the time while changing between games!

You can really confuse people when you say "PAL" smoothing, PAL is a video format and not a video signal why not say "composite" vs s-video...

This does not work for me. I tried all modes and different USB cables. I then tried to update the firmware and sadly this application can only be ran as a EXE file which is not MAC IOS compatible. This is not a "plug and play" as stated. I have a N64 with a ROKU TV. Will not work and firmware is accessible by windows only.

For some reason there's often issues with loading your videos. I have had a few occasion where I've had to reload the page multiple times before the video actually started.
The same issue is extremely rare with other videos, but it has happened multiple times with you. I swear TH-cam treats different youtubers unequally and they throttle the content of some.

A line double is an upscale, by a factor of 2. Also the fact that the manual refers to the OSSC as an upscaler is funny as this also multiplies lines 2x 3x 4x and 5x. So really speaking their both upscalers
