When I bought my house I asked the realtor if there was any way we could ask the owners to leave the big ole RCA console TV that was in the one room. The owners agreed and now I have my N64 hooked to it, and the guy was happy that he didn’t have to haul it out of the house
I think alot of people expect the worst from these type of adapters but in reality they aren't that bad. The convenience and ability to plug it into an hdmi only tv or device makes up for the issues in my opinion. But im still going to use my crt tv for retro gaming :).
Same here, but Pound aren't too bad, I've had their cables, they're OK, but you'll probably have to tweak the tint a bit because they're usually too pink on reds and Mario will wear a magenta hat instead of a red one.
Too bad they don't have the RetroTINK 2X-Mini in stock anymore. It was a very affordable solution for anyone looking to upscale their old consoles. Works great for N64.
Love the gaming content! Nintendo 64 was something I played a lot in my youth, I have been actively looking into upscaling my old console, this will help. Thanks, Lon!
Awesome run down of these boxes Lon! Nintendo 64 is my console - I loved it as a kid, and still do. I might need to get myself one. I ended up buying a Nintendo Switch and the subscription for online gameplay. I hope Nintendo release new games soon - but I still have my original console, controllers and several games in storage.
With as popular as retro gaming has become, I'm surprised TV manufacturers haven't added s-video, composite and scart back into some TV's. They could incorporate all the processing right into the main SoC and add settings for them into the Game Mode settings. The cost for them would be miniscule, but they could charge a small premium for it. As long as they put a little effort into making it work and look good, people would pay.
My TCL, Sony both have composite video with a plug in adapter cable, and the 50" Hisense has physical RCA connectors...so its still out there. Just not S-Video or component.
For the N64, an alternative to the Retrotink 2X is the RAD2X Nintendo cable, it was made in collaboration with Retrotink and they are in stock several times a year.
The problem that I have with the HDMI converters is that the screen is very dark, in some of the N64 games, it's too dark to see anything, I'm trying to look for a solution on how to get the best picture and the screen isn't dark.
A lot of PAL systems support S-Video (I think some funtastic ones don't among 1 other revision IIRC), but the cables require an extra resistor, and sometimes it doesn't play nice with line doublers depending on support for PAL60. I ended up settling on a Kaico 2x Line Doubler HDMI adapter. Line doubles to 480p, supports S-Video through PAL as well as AV, looks good too. If you're interested in it, make sure it's got the silver and yellow box, not the silver and black one.
Can someone please help me. So i have used similar products and they do work, but certain levels have problems. On Mario kart 64 you cant see the track on the snow or ice levels. Why is this?
I remember hooking up my N64 to my HDTV with the rca plugs and it looked absolutely horrible. How is the pound cable in comparison to direct connection? On a side note my wife bought me an old projector with vga and s-video inputs and told me to throw away my old 32" CRT lol.
J’ai une question est ce meilleur une 64 sur cathodique ou sur lcd svp ? Car apparement les oled et les c’est pas top du coup j’hésite entre une lcd et cathodique champion merci d’avoir pour ton aide mon grand
@Lon. TV Hey, does this N64-to-HDMI cable just output in composite signal to a modern TV, and does it look better than the original composite cables since it's in the digital HDMI signal? Also, is there any lag input?
Lon, Have you tried the hdmi adapter to a 4k display? All the displays that I have are only 4k. I bought a samsung 28 inch 4k 60 hz monitor like 2 or 3 years ago. I switched everything to 4k since I no longer use 1080p or 1440p for external displays.
I have a gold japanese N64 and I use the composite because I find it easier to use with my setup(into 8-way splitter out to a VCR splitting it to a CRT TV (for input lag) AND a composite USB capture device for streaming) 😉😉🤔🤔😁😁 Also because I don't know how or what I need to split from TV and capture for HDMI, that's partly why I don't use it that way!

Awe man you gotta keep that tv forever what a cool story ❤
Surprisingly rare to see input lag mentioned on these devices. Much appreciated
Lon is a true professional! Even informing us that the N64 was purchased with his own funds😊

My eyes kept veering towards that *Sega Genesis* . The GOAT looks phenomenal after all these years. 🔥🔥
It’s my original from 1989 - bought it right when it hit the US shores !

I like power saving strips. No need to unplug accessories.

@@DaveNLR2 my Sony still has component input. Great for Xbox and PS2.

concrete lag numbers would be nice, but I know it's time consuming to get

I use the hd cable from HyperKins it’s compatible with the N64 SNES & GameCube there’s an aspect ratio switch for 16.9 to 4.3
Hyperkin cable is pretty decent it does a good job with the colors not being dark it struggles with games that change resolution alot like re2
Can any if these devices work on a GC since they have the same video port?

Yes as a matter of fact this video is 4k so what you see here should be similar to the experience on a 4k set.
no link for better cables?
Oops forgot to include that just added: www.retrorgb.com/n64cablecsync.html
the pound one is recommended by metal jesus so i trusted him and picked one for me😄
I’m a monster because I prefer the stretched widescreen image 🥶
Glad to be the first person to comment on something that may make me take my N64 out my display.
