I refurbish a ton of N64s, (actually refurbish, not whatever DKOldies does) changing all the capacitors on the PCB and power supply, as well as fully disassembling the cartridge port from the PCB and cleaning underneath it, as well as resoldering all high stress joints, controller ports to the PCB and power and ground solder points. The N64 I am using is one that I found when going through an abandoned house that a friend bought. It had been sitting in a garage that was been exposed to the elements. Point of the story…. It wasn’t this dirty and it works great.
Wether it works or not (it should obviously) $98 is a horrendous price for a console only N64, especially when I paid £40 a couple of years ago for a full system and 3 games 😅
Don’t forget, it was also a ‘cosmetically damaged’ console only n64. The console is still supposed to function too. It makes the price even more unjustified and scammy
Just shop at your local stores. I’ve found that the refurbishment or repair process is always superior to larger online companies like this. DK clearly isn’t some small operation. The warehouse videos indicate that they buy up large amounts of consoles and products for spare change and sell em at a 300% markup.
I'll never understand why people are so adamant about buying their retro games and systems from an online site rather than in person at their local stores. You can't see if the item you are buying is a piece of junk or not, and you end up paying more due to shipping, and still have to wait for the items to arrive. If it is rare and hard to find item, then that makes sense, but for something like an N64, those are super common and every store would have like 10 at any given time, and they actually work.

RE: the warranty. Theres a video called " DK Oldies CAN'T Void Your Warranty! Full Details On ILLEGAL Void If Removed Stickers " Might give you some info about that.
From experience with buying from them I don't think they void the warranty if you open up the console because I bought a gc from them last year that wasn't working and I took it apart to see why put it back together and got my refund which makes me think it's on their just to say it's been quality tested
What is scaring me is how did this get pass “testing” to sale. This is a BIG DEAL if they aren’t fully testing console before selling. Makes me furious cuz they’re so “Prideful” about testing their products before sales. Extremely upset & unacceptable.
Just a heads up, never blow on a cartridge. You’re essentially covering the copper pins with spit particles. While this may work in the short term, it can definitely damage your game in the long term. I’d recommend q-tips with 90% isopropyl alcohol. Update: Look, guys, I understand that your games still work. That's great to hear! However, the objective truth is that you are essentially spitting on your game's copper pins.
I’m gonna sound like a jerk for saying this. I hope DKOldies eventually shuts down. For they then show a employee cleaning the Wii console with a magic eraser. And literally say don't worry the magic eraser won't damage your console. 🤦♂️ anyone who has ever used a ME or has any experience in cleaning console's knows that ME will leave scuffs all over it. For ME is basically fine grit foam sandpaper.
Don't blow into the cartridges, that causes corrosion. To clean a cartridge, you need to buy an eraser and mildly work off the surface of the pins on the cartridge and use alcohol to remove the eraser shavings.
The Nintendo NES had the Zero Insertion Force cartridge slot and that's why people blow into the cartridge for good luck like when rolling dice at the craps table in the casino. However, the Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis, Game Boy, Game Gear, and Nintendo 64 all had some amount of Insertion force needed to get the pins to connect like a PCIe expansion card in a computer motherboard. Blowing isn't needed.

I'm convinced that they're buying too many collections at once and just selling them as quickly as possible to keep up with their sales now cause they claim 2 day shipping it's very risky to do that but ultimately it's their reputation on the line and they're doing it to themselves! I think they're in over their head, too much to do and not enough time to do it.
I think this is the case. This is basically what happens when the CEO/owner is greedy. He's the one that sets the prices and policies. They are spending too much time on marketing to get as many collections sold to them at rock bottom prices as possible, when in reality they should be hiring more staff to increase their quality and volume (without raising prices). They basically compensated for being overburdened by paying less for collections (creating elss work and increasing margins on the stuff they do get), charging more for items (lowering sales and creating more margin), and lowering quality. It's pure greed. It would only be excusable if they advertised less.

In this regard, yes they are a scam, they list on their website that every console gets "refurbished" which is clearly NOT the case! And if they "refurbish" a console, they do half a job, because they don't even bother taking the heatsinks off and replace decades old thermal paste that is as dry as the desert! What a shame!
Does DKOldies list anywhere on their site exactly what "refurbishing" entails? If not, then they can claim that they do it. They may feel that "refurbishing" the system doesn't include opening the system just to clean it or replacing any heat sink compound.

This console looks like it was sold to DK Oldies without the company knowing it wasn't working. DK Oldies sold it without properly looking at it, slapped that warranty sticker on it, and shipped it as is. It looked like it was sitting in someone's basement, got wet from the basement flooding, and the original owner sold all of their old consoles to DK Oldies to cover some of the cost to repair their basement. Hopefully (if my theory is correct) whoever bought the rest of the pieces of that console or any of the games that were sold with it will be able to get their money back.

They should refund him I managed to get a refund after buying a broken gc I'll never buy another console from them again unless it's a newer console that isn't overpriced
It does't even matter if you paid $20 for that console when the product DOESN'T EVEN WORK. This seems like an absolute scam. Good job continuing to put the pressure on them. It's a bit alarming that so many people getting the consoles are not even able to get them to turn on. Maybe a class action suit or investigation incoming? :p
And they said they are humans, so one or more not working consoles may slip by. What a trash response from them tbh. Considering their high prices, they should do quality check for each consoles before shipping them up.
Man they was so wrong for this one. that N64 got water damage. they never open the system. they just spray air in the vents and around the open area to make it look like they clean it and wrap up the outside of it. of they would have open it up. they would have seen the water damage and rust that was on it.
I'm surprised people still keep giving them a chance even with all the videos that are out there today about them. We already know that they don't check the consoles and when they have. They've removed screws like on the NES systems.
This is the 10th video I’ve seen this week about TH-camrs reviewing and opening consoles they ordered from this place. Moral of the story: DO NOT ORDER FOM DKOLDIES.
Just curious to see if the N64 will boot up if you clean the pins on the jumper pak (or if their jumper pak is bad?) I've bought one 2nd hand where that was the case.
This video was a big help. I was going to buy an N64 from DKOldies but then saw this and some other videos. Instead I ordered one from eBay that wasn't refurbished but was cleaner, cheaper, and works great!
Also your are right. The minute I heard you open the console I could tell the screws were seazed. Definitely never opened. But also. If you clean the board pins that would probably fix the problem. I love ceaning consoles and that usually a good clean will solve the problem.
I was considering getting an N64 before Christmas to play some classics with my kids from DK oldies. I passed and got one from goodwillfinds for 20 bucks. It was marked as untested and sold as is. It powered right on. I find it funny that a place selling these at a premium can’t even get it right. You’re better off heading to marketplace or your local game shop.
When you flipped it over at 4:30 and found dirt. Dude, right there, it's not refurbished. Then at 9:00 you defend them for sending you a console with dirt crammed into it. That means they didn't open it. They didn't refurbish it. And at 13:00 you open the expansion port and pull a wad of lint / dust out. Even after all that you still defend them? Sad man.
I bought a Nintendo brand SNES controller from them and I got it and it was filthy. I had to take it apart and scrub it down. I always considered buying a gamecube or n64 from them because they state refurbished but I was always hesitant. Your video helped seal the deal on my opinion of DKoldies. You would think they would at least test the system before sending it. They are just a big company pushing out inventory so they can make money. Quality assurance does not seem to be a top priority for them. If im spending 200$ or more for a refurbished n64 with controllers I want it actually cleaned and refurbished. Thank you for the video!
First thing that jumped out to me is that the DKOldies console did NOT have a Jumper Pak. The N64 cannot boot without either a jumper or an expansion pak in the compartment. I bet you anything that the people going over the consoles at DKO have no idea about this and just sending them out like this. If you take the jumper pak out of your garage sale N64 or get an expansion pak and put it in your DKO N64, it will work then. I would still return the console back to them though.
13:43 You can see that they just used a cheap electric blower to blow the dust further inside through the vents on the sides. This is worse than not even cleaning it at all. It doesn't remove dirt, it just packs it in tighter and closer to critical components.
I feel like people who say this is a good company and it's worth scamming people out of money while over inflating old worn out stuff those people sit on the couch and play N64 at 2:00am while they wait for their wife to get back from her date with the guy next door.
Thank you for being such a patriot and supporting why DK oldies is not doing a good job in refurbishing their product. It really upsets me to see that people have to go through this bs because it’s not acceptable.
As said if you'd paid an premium for a good quality refurbished product under warranty. I feel like it would be good company. But when they're selling crap at a premium saying they refurbished and all that when it's hot garbage it's just blatantly stealing.
Lol this really shows that they've improved NOTHING since all the teardown videos started to pop up. That "DKoldies refurbishes" video is scummy af, they clearly did it to decieve people. IMO they're two "personas" and they exploit that: Their tiktoks and shorts are really entertaining and good, but they're just exploiting the nostalgia factor, the other side is this one, not refurbishing or proper testing at all.
I would pay almost 100 dollars for a Nintendo 64 game’s system specifically when dkoldies doesn’t check the product from the beginning there methods are very questionable very unprofessional the owner of Dkoldies needs to be held accountable for this mistake

It’s funny because on my channel I exposed DKOldies for paying for fake positive reviews and having negative job reviews from employees. They are trash all around not just with the refurbished console department
As a person who gets asked to look at 64's all the time, did you try swapping your jumper pak? The Jumper Pak/Expansion Pak does go bad, so try to clean the pins on that first and then try using the pak from your working one into the DK oldies one and see if it gets it working.
Let's be honest... The warranty sticker does 2 things 1. It detours the buyer from opening it so they can't see what has/HASNT been done/cleaned 2. It's a measure to scare you of losing your warranty/refund That's it...
It really isn’t. I’ve never bought from dk but I’ve repaired a bunch of PSPs and sold them off eBay. Selling 20 year old consoles that have been used for god knows how long is a tough business. Things can break real easily. At the end of the day, if you’re the seller you want to make sure what you’ve sold them works, and if it begins to not work you want to know it hasn’t been tampered with. In this case, they sent him a messed up device. If you leave the sticker, it’s indisputable that it’s on DK. And you get that for a year, which is a pretty good deal all things considered. If it wasn’t like that, it would be very easy for someone like myself to buy a PSP, take their working motherboard and swap it with a broken one and claim it never worked. I get that DK might be a scummy company, but it’s at the point where people will take use anything they can find as ammo, even if it doesn’t even make sense.
@@ThisIsSrsBsnsMan Part swapping scams are indeed an issue, no argument there, which is why mfgs/refurbs are well within their rights to mark individual components (in non-descript ways that only they will recognize) so they can quickly know if a part has been swapped by the end user, and use THAT to deny warranty service. That is totally fine, and while it is a bit more work on the seller's part to individually mark each component, it is the legal way to go about preventing/deterring part swapping "scams" in a way that the seller can prove that user tampering has occurred. The warranty labels themselves, however (the type that say "void if removed"), legally cannot be grounds alone for voiding any warranty, especially the ones that are external and only indicate that the product has been opened. The DK Oldies stickers, while it being mentioned in the video as saying "void if removed", I personally couldn't see that text, only "DK Oldies" and a faint "warranty" (the inclusion of the word "warranty" on the sticker, no matter how faint, is dubious and misleading, intentionally so). Sure, use a sticker as a means to quickly determine if the product has been opened, and if it has, then the burden of ensuring no part swapping has taken place lies on the seller inspecting each individual component that they have (hopefully) marked in a unique way.

I've only come across one N64 that didn't work, and it ended up being a dead expansion pack (Pretty rare itself). Once I got another pack, it fired right up. It's amazing that the one he got won't even turn on. LOL!
I have n64s (got from garage sales), one of them doesnt work at all and the other probably works 1/20 boots. Regardless though, this should never be WILLINGLY sold, let alone at such a ridiculous margin...
The warranty void thing is illegal. All that DKOldies sticker does is tell you that they havent done shit to anything.
So that means what they were doing is false advertising with their warranty?

Man the retro market from buying games at ridiculously high prices to resellers like DK is sucking the fun directly out of gaming 😮💨
@IenjoiHopps If you just want to play games that's exactly what you should do. Collecting the real carts is cool too, but you're not supporting the game companies or anything by buying them, so you shouldn't feel bad about alternative ways to play.
Definitely collect physical if that's what you're into though.
Don't worry, I'm sure they've been graded A++ by Wata games. All above board here!
(Look up video game grading scandal, or watch Karl Jobst if you don't get the reference)
@@anonamatron I like to approach it with a healthy mix. I'll play emulated versions of a lot of retro games but I like to collect the physical games where I can. Sometimes the emulated playthrough leads to the physical buy like when I tried Parasite Eve.
Generally speaking though, especially nowadays, it's just better, easier and *CHEAPER* to emulate because companies do such a bad job of porting classics.
@@Kloqdq I like pirating things, in general. Games, movies, music..
This lets me use them on my own terms. My player, my time, etc...
It's less about money and more about who gets to control things. I don't think I'd ever buy a collection of emulated games. What I got for free online is surely better anyway.
I buy games and other media too, and like you have bought the real thing after pirating it.
Honestly, as stupid as their prices are, I don't see them inflating the market. If you look at eBay, then at their website, there is a massive difference. And with all the bad press they've been getting the last month, I don't see if inflating any game prices
They never refurbished the console they just put a warranty sticker on the console to give you the illusion of it being opened and refurbished
Could you imagine buying that for a friend or a brother around the holidays, everyone gathered around the TV, breaking out the old games ready to play. And then nothing happens, broken console
I hear you but why buy an N64 in that scenario when you could go virtual. Also, you get what you pay for. 🤷♂️
@elkellenhabla no you don't because you payed for a console being sold as REFURBISHED AND IN WORKING CONDITION that was neither refurbished nor works.

@@YS420X lol it’s a saying buddy. $100 for a console that is almost 30 years old is pretty cheap. Obviously he should be refunded but if he wants something that works properly he might have to pay more. It’s possible the device worked before it was shipped and something happened in transit. Also maybe the unit works with different games (other than the Mario 64 he owns). Lastly maybe all that blowing in the cartridge ruined the console. Why does he do that?
@@elkellenhabla You don't know anything about the law, pipe your mouth shut and accept you are wrong.
This DKOldies Shop is an outright scam, they charge crazy prices for stuff you can get in working condition for far less money.
It can't have broken in transport because if you have seen how it is made you would know that all parts are hard mounted or hard linked, soldered joints, screws, no glue.
They didn't refurbish anything, and they didn't test it, all they possibly did was clean the outside, although I'm suspicious that they even do that on all the products that they sell seeing as they lie about everything else.
And if you knew anything about dust build up you would understand why he is blowing the cartridge, it's an old trick from two decades ago that isn't really as effective as people think, but, it can sometimes get the cartridge to work.

@@thepoliticalstartrek that is absolutely not true. the 1975 act covers any an all warranties, including warranties provided for after market sales by a seller. Basically, if a seller offers a warranty, they cannot void said warranty if a sticker seal is broken or the product is simply opened.

The N64 I am using is one that I found when going through an abandoned house that a friend bought. It had been sitting in a garage that was been exposed to the elements. Point of the story…. It wasn’t this dirty and it works great.
That’s a cool story
Wether it works or not (it should obviously) $98 is a horrendous price for a console only N64, especially when I paid £40 a couple of years ago for a full system and 3 games 😅
There’s one on eBay right now with all the cables, the controller, and 6 games for $108. Definitely a lot better than this $98 console only.
And then they call something "rare" despite showing on camera a box full of said rare system or game.
These kinds of people are killing retro gaming
After sanding them down and defacing them....

Theres a video called " DK Oldies CAN'T Void Your Warranty! Full Details On ILLEGAL Void If Removed Stickers "

I have heard about it but I'm doing it with my N64 games for 20 years and they still work 😅
Not to mention that simple dust on the contacts that can be blown off isn't really the issue in the first place.
Been blowing on cartridges since the 80’s, still works. The damage done by blowing on it, it’s a myth.
Oh shut up. Is the fbi going to show up if I cut the tag on my pillow too?
It’s tradition, pop. F spit particles.
I’m gonna sound like a jerk for saying this. I hope DKOldies eventually shuts down. Don't blow into the cartridges, that causes corrosion. To clean a cartridge, you need to buy an eraser and mildly work off the surface of the pins on the cartridge and use alcohol to remove the eraser shavings.
This is why I’ll never order from them💯. They need to be sued big time for lying to consumers and up charging people with false advertising.

Warranty void if removed sticker is not enforceable in the USA. Look up Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act of 1975
First thing that jumped out to me is that the DKOldies console did NOT have a Jumper Pak.

As a person who gets asked to look at 64's all the time, did you try swapping your jumper pak?
The Jumper Pak/Expansion Pak does go bad, so try to clean the pins on that first and then try using the pak from your working one into the DK oldies one and see if it gets it working.
There is no jumper Pak in it. Which it needs to get a picture on the TV if you're not using the expansion Pak. Hope that helps.
😂 did you catch the part where he removed it???
Wait? It got shipped with no power cable?
Let's be honest...
The warranty sticker does 2 things
1. It detours the buyer from opening it so they can't see what has/HASNT been done/cleaned
2. It's a measure to scare you of losing your warranty/refund
That's it...
"I am a fan of them altough I have bought nothing of them"
Sounds about right....
