I think it all comes down to what rules they played by. If they played real basketball the 96 Bulls all day. If they played todays game...96 Bulls all day.
Some claim that the Warriors could beat the 96 Bulls the way the game is called today, but just imagine letting Jordan, Pippen and Kukoc run around the floor with no hand checking and uncontested lanes to the basket. Sure they didn’t take 3s like they do today, but they don’t need to - and if you did need to lengthen the floor out a bit, Jordan was certainly respectable behind the arc - especially at that point in his career, and they had the guy who still has the best season 3pt shooting percentage coming off the bench. On the flip side, even without the hand checking they could use in the 90’s, Jordan, Harper and Pippen could close down passing lanes like nobody’s business and even today, there is nobody who could touch Rodman as a rebounder.
The 90’s Bulls destroyed my ability to watch much basketball after them. Being a young adult in Chicago, I watched almost every single game the Bulls played in the 90’s. They were so amazing that after that run it was like watching a high school team.
101% Agree!!!! Today's Basketball is more to the offensive side...the 96 Bulls can eat any team alive today because they were superior in terms of Defense and will win dominantly because of their offensive threat lead by MJ. No matter if it's today's rule (which Bulls need to adjust their defensive style) or back-then rule (it will be a SWEEP for BULLS and average 20 pts lead).
Agree completely. I just said the other day that as soon as that Bulls team was done, my outlook on all sports changed. It's never been the same again or even close.
Maybe underrated by people that don't know basketball? Any intelligent basketball fan I ever knew, respects Ron Harper's game, and would love him on their team. Who underrates him?
Harper??? everyone on the team of bulls are superstars.. Harper was a superstars when bulls got him.. It is just that... Jordan is the only superstar..
Like Steve Kerr said. Being on that team and coaching the Warriors. 1996 Bulls was built for this era. It's no question or doubt they 'd win regardless of the rules.
lol no they wouldn't even the rules in 96 favor the warriors shortened 3 point line and illegal defense pippen ain't stopping kd from getting to the rim jordan may slow down steph but he's going to get open from the warriors ball movement motion and pin down offense igoudala is probably cooking kukoc and locking him up, pippen would be limited by kd and draymond the bulls would not have the offense to keep up outside of jordan no one is beating that lethal warriors team they're the best offensive team in nba history great offense beats great defense in the nba warriors would win in 6 ✌
As a Bad Boys fan growing up, Dennis Rodman was very underrated. He could lock down anyone, get every rebound, and get in everyone's head. He was one hell of an athlete.
@Stan O'Zolol lol I watched it live, one of the best dunks ever! I remember that one, and when Kevin Johnson dunked on Hakeem Olajuwon. 2 Great defenders on the wrong end.
Steve Kerr gave a pretty interesting outlook on the Bulls style of play. I have to agree with him that they're built to play in today's era. They'd be a freaking juggernaut just as they were back then.
The title says: "NBA Legends Explain Why 96 Bulls Would Kill The Warriors." I'm not a 100% sure they would kill them. The 1996 Bulls would annihilate them !!
@@LastLetterisZed702 There is a 0% chance that if you just dropped the 1996 Bulls and the peak Durant Warriors in a game or series that the Bulls would dominate them. Sorry. The difference in shooting and space is just absurd. Could the Bulls guard the Warriors? Maybe, but what people really don't understand is that defense in the 90s was so, so much easier than today because you have to guard about half the amount of space (less really, when comparing it to defending the Warriors). Also, the Bulls have a number of players that straight up can't be on the floor in today's NBA. Luke Longley? Durant wouldn't even see Pipen or Rodman. He'd shoot right over either of them any time he wants. That's why he's such a problem. It's basically impossible to bother his shot. The real question is could the Bulls score efficiently enough considering the fact that they aren't built to shoot a lot of 3s and instead shoot a lot of mid range 2s to keep up with a modern, optimized offense with arguably the 3 greatest shooters of all time.
@@josephrafferty6763 Bball IQ wise... Defense lockdown always make 3pt plays useless. Even if you're a sharpshooter. All you need is clamp the guy you're guarding with a handcheck.
@@josephrafferty6763 they would work them out as they do! They would lock them down half court if needed then what? Your forgetting MJ would have a field day what ever he wanted x3 the amount of free balls fouls on him! You talk as if the bulls couldn’t shoot 3 balls dude that’s the issue! Imagine MJ shooting x3 more shots at 3 being the most dominate shooter ever! He would only adapt and become better at it! They would possibly take a game to figure them out then take over for sure!
Steve Kerr made the best take. Great thing he mentioned the starting five with Kukoc instead of Longley. He also mentioned that lineup was more suitable to today's game than the game played in that era. Versatility from those Bulls is what gives them the edge to almost every team of any era and that's the reason they are the best team of all time.
@@czarbeat He'd be the starting point guard for 75% of the teams in the league. He was so much like Magic it was crazy. He just lacked the same confidence, or it seemed that way at least. Jordan definitely could (and should) have treated him differently, as he (Jordan) probably could have brought out the best in him had he taken a different approach. Jordan yelled a lot. Most people would get fired up, but Kukoc? It seemed to make him play worse. Of course in today's game, with no one covering him, Kukoc wouldn't be getting yelled at as often bc most of his shots would be uncontested. No hand-checking? Yeah, Kukoc puts up 35/g on 59% shooting. Heh, the Bulls as a whole would average about 150.
You had to witness that team during that time to understand how dominant the Bulls were. They had everything. That era was once in a lifetime. The entire NBA was a pleasure to watch. Tough games That You had to show up to win. Nobody laid down for anyone. It truly was a blessing to have witnessed the Lakers, Boston, sixers, Pistons, and the bulls. Let me not leave out the Rockets. Thank you for such a beautiful time in sports.
@@osheakara3518 There's no defense because Jordan got the rules changed for him. Not to mention guys are much stronger, faster, better shooters, and more athletic now. Jordan and his Bulls team would stand no chance against some of the worst teams nowadays. The lack of defense is not the reason for us having all time highs in endgame scores, its just offensive players are that much better. Jordan era was cool but it stands no chance, just like Wilt Era would stand no chance against Jordan's era. The game evolve, rules change, abd players get better. It's the way life works, but the media and highlights will have you thinking otherwise but the stats say otherwise.
Kevin Durant is one of the best of all time. But argument often now is how would these players today fair against the kind of defense of the 90's. I saw a highlight with Ja Morant yesterday and one of his amazing dunks, but no one touched him, even the opponents seemed in awe. I just can't imagine him going through the old Detroit Pistons or the Knicks of the 90's or the Bulls with Dennis Rodman and no one putting him down hard on his ass. Back to KD, the Celtics in last years playoffs employed hard defense on him, and he was flustered both him and Kyrie seemed to not know how to play basketball anymore. It was a revelation and that Boston's defense was nothing like the Bulls of 96. Those teams back then seemed to be playing almost football on the BBall court.
The NBA likes that style of play because it puts more butts in the seats (in the short term). But, it's fool's gold for the game. If something isn't done soon to restore competitiveness, ticket sales will quickly reflect the fans lack of interest. I like to see highlight worthy plays as well, but the alterations made to the rules to enable more of them is appalling. Most of todays players couldn't take the physicality of a pickup game at the local gym.
Not just physically tougher, they were much tougher mentally also. U can see how weak the league became when u look at ben simmons... yet he still gets the big checks, kyrie was a part time, still rains money on him, bron just crys while playing part time defense in the name of load management. What a bs era of bball.
Wow, you just put a bunch of dudes on here on the hall-of-shames. These so called basketball fans claiming they know about NBA but more like NBA2K. Kudo and props to you Lana
Shaq and Charles get it. Rules are easier for the scorers in modern era. It’s hard to imagine Golden State playing better in the Bulls era rules. However, I can see the Bulls improving offensively in the modern era. I don’t see the Warriors being able to slow down the Bulls enough in either era.
@@jirengrey4140 He may not completely shut him down, but KD's weak ass is going to be worn out. You people from this generation of the WNBA......I mean.......the NBA.......just don't get how physical the game was. KD would beat to a pulp. Most of today's "stars" would have trouble getting off a shot in that era. They just aren't as tough. They take games off for "rest." REST???? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Rest.
If the 90s taught me anything it's that if you give Michael Jordan an off-season to get in shape and form a plan of attack he's going to dominate. And that would translate to any era.
Ikr, they would actually matchup really well vs the Warriors if some people would actually use their head. That Bulls team defensively is basically built like a modern NBA team.
The only real way to ever determine this is in the stats. The W’s won 73 games w/o KD. Then they added the best scoring threat in the league to the best shooting backcourt of all time. The Warriors would run the Bulls socks off, they’d be dead by the 4th quarter. But if you go stat for stat when it actually mattered, as in the playoffs. According to the numbers, The Warriors would’ve beat the Bulls by 10+ points per game. Not to mention the W’s had to go through the much more talented West conf. And SWEPT every single series going to the finals, where they won In Five! The defensive stats are virtually a wash between the teams. W’s were #1 defense in the league for many years and nobody is mentioning Iggys hands and DG and KT all league defense. There big difference is on the offensive side. Sure the Bulls had MJ. But he’d have to drop 60 on 65% shooting in order to have a chance. But the W’s had 3 of the top 10 shooters of ALL TIME on their team. The Bulls aren’t coming close to 120 pts.
Loved those Bulls, but just reminding people that the Warriors that year were the 2nd best team holding opponents to a low 3pt% and the 3rd best team holding opponents to a low 2pt%, they also ranked 1st in Defensive rebounding that year and 2nd in blocks. All this stuff doesn't matter if you play fast either because the other team is on the floor trying to do this too! The 73 Warriors team is a historically underrated defensive team. Oh and the refs didn't love them, they were 23rd ranked in the league for FTA!
@@champspec I disagree. Watching both teams, I’d pick the Bulls in 5 or 6. If they played w 90s rules the Bulls would suffocate the shooters. If they play today, the Bulls would be even better offensively. No one could guard MJ. They’d get into foul trouble. No one really posts up any more so MJ would have his way. GSW is an amazing, all time great team, but MJ, Pip, and Rodman are considered the best defenders at their position. The player who would kill GSW would be Kukoc. That guy made the Bulls just not fair! He was great shooter and playmaker. I’m not sure who would guard him either?
I am a Magic fan and I watched the 96 playoffs and watched the Bulls totally shred my Magic (a 60 win team which could have easily been 65+ cause Shaq was out for about 2 months) apart, the best display of defense I've ever seen even even to this day. The Magic couldn't even get the ball up half-court. And Rodman gave Shaq a real tough time and he got so frustrated that he pushed Rodman to the floor. Their full-court pressure was played to perfection, they couldn't even get the ball up halfcourt or inbound the ball. Hell, even Steve Kerr was good at the full-court pressure, believe it or not! There's no way that Warriors team would be able to beat the Bulls, and I am saying this as someone who hates the Bulls.
I agree I often go back and watch the Bulls vs Magic 96 playoff series. Game 1 jump ball Magic wins the tip seconds after that you see Nick Anderson go to the block and then sprint out to the wing to get the ball and Michael Jordan wouldn't let him touch the ball no matter what he did. I knew right then the Magic was doomed. Few plays later Penny could barley get the ball past half court due to Pippen's defense. Bulls go on a 10-0 run in the first 5-10 minutes pretty much ripping out the heart of the Magic which lead to a sweep.
First of all the lakers wasn't the best team in the west in 91 they upset the portland trailblazers and kareem had retired .so this clearly wasn't one of the best lakers teams to reach a nba finals that year. Portland had more talent and depth then any team in the league back at the start of the 90s but there basketball iq was so bad they was once considered a dumb basketball team. Even m jordan said portland had more talent but they would beat them because they wasnt a smart basketball team.
Steve Kerr average 4ppg in 3finals shooting like 300 250for 3...There's no cure for nostalgia... In 96finals Pippen fg300 200 Mj400 300 with shorter line for 3...All those teams lack firepower... 2017GSW will destroy Bulls

The Bulls are still my favorite team today at 42 yrs old because of Jordan and what I saw them do to team's back then when I was a kid. I'm glad that I grew up in the MJ era and got to watch him play to me that was when basketball as a whole was fun to watch.
'96 Bulls was a scoring machine as well a defensive behemoth. And adapting to an easier scoring game is waaay easier than adapting to a harder defense era.
People forget that apart from the three great HOF players (Jordan, Pippen and Rodman) the bulls had Toni Kukoc, Steve Kerr and the x-factor: Ron Harper! He could guard as tenaciously as Jordan or Pippen. He had length and dexterity to pick up guards full court. Not only that they had four seven footers (Luc Longley, Bill Wennington, James Edwards (two time champ with Detroit!) and Robert Parish (three time champ with Boston!) That's a lot of skill, length and championship pedigree on one team. None of the GSW teams (including with KD) wouldn't stand a chance against the 1996 Bulls!
Exactly. Ron Harper stopped Allen Iverson, underrated Rod Strickland, and even 4th Quarter game 7 Reggie Miller (who had ZERO FGs in the 4th quarter of that Game 7)
Kerr said it best. The 96 bulls were made for this time and Barkley followed up by saying they would actually be better today with no handchecking and less physicality. Remember, the Pistons got more physical with MJ to slow him down and he still averaged over 28ppg against them
Yeah people don't get that, MJ did averaged ridiculous numbers on 2s with significantly more physical defensive rules. In today's rules, cant touch him at all, MJ would run amok, get to the basket and all his spots with ease. MJs fundamentals were also unmatched.
If these 2 teams played I think it comes down to what era of rules are being used? If it's 90s then it's not even close. The Bulls would destroy the Warriors. If ya use 2017 rules the Warriors stand a chance but I still believe the Bulls win 4-2 or 4-3 in a 7 game series. When even the Warriors coach is saying that Bulls team was unstoppable then and would be now that says it all. But even in today's rules Jordan would torch the living hell out of the Warriors defense. He'd be averaging 40ppg easy.
This a dumb argument because in the 90s the players of this era was babies. And the 90 players is out of shape and old in today era. U can only appreciate what you see now youth and talent.
In the 91-92 season, MJ made 27 3-pointers. In game two of the finals Michael hit 6-three pointers in the first half (35 points for the half) against the Blazers. MJ was asked why he didn't shoot threes more... he answered that you get addicted to shooting threes, so it would take away from the rest of his offensive game.
You never going to fine out. Because the only way is to play each other. It could go either way really. The 2 3peat bulls didn't beat a team like GSW with or without KD.
Perimeter defense was also tougher, so it didn't make sense for Jordan to keep on going for threes when he could be easily blocked or at least be made to miss.
@@keithvinet8049 The 73-9 GSW are so overrated. No defense. The whole team just depends on Curry and Klay and if Curry or Klay disappeared like they did vs Cavs, they screwed. 96 Bulls had three 1st team All-Defensive starters (Jordan, Pippen, Rodman), two All-NBA 1st team starters (Jordan, Pippen), 96 MVP (Jordan), Points Leader (Jordan), Rebound Leader (Rodman), Sixth Man (Kukoc) and best team net rating of all-time (13.4). Aside Jordan, no one on that Bulls team could score consistently. Plus Bulls bench cannot match the Warriors bench.
Well, the other thing who ever Steph has to guard is going off on him as well. Steph can't defend at all. That's where the Warriors lose. Plus, Curry and Klay will literally shoot you out of games. It's no contest in a best of 7. Curry in the 2016 Finals, PPG - 11, 18, 19, 38, 25, 30 and 17. He's supposed to be this elite scorer and he's putting up dog crap numbers. @@BJ-zv5nl I agree he benefits from this era having no hand checking and the no full court pressure defense. What is played today allows a lot of open shots !!!!
96 Bulls would wear 17 Warriors down. They weren't "Showtime" Lakers, but the "Running of the Bulls" wasn't far off. So you have the fact that 96 Bulls had superior defensive talent, which lead to streaks in the game where they would go on big runs, which was all fast breaks. I don't think the 17 Warriors would have the cardio to keep up.
Ignorance is bliss, i guess.. there is no team that has ever ran more and passed more than the W’s. You want to get worn out, play a team that scores 120 points with 40 assists. The defensive numbers of both teams is a complete wash. Since the W’s starters didn’t even play half the 4th qtrs in the regular season. So you take the games that actually matter. In the playoffs, the W’s swept the entire western conference(which was WAY better than the east). The numbers speak for themselves. defensive team ratings and stats show a complete wash in playoffs. But on the offensive side, the Bulls don’t stand a chance. The Warriors would outscore the Bulls by nearly 15 points per game, while holding their opponents to the same number of points. You can’t match the firepower of the Hamptons 5. Facts don’t care about feelings. Every person in this clip has a bias towards the bulls. But they’re all wrong.

People tend to forget how deep the bulls team was, the defensive capabilities on the 96 team was outrageous, greatest rebounder of all time and one of the most physical players in nba history in Rodman and Scottie Pippen who probably has one of the greatest court vision and defense of all time, Pippen could literally defend all positions along with Rodman. Harper and Randy brown were also amazing defensive guards at the time and kukoc was basically a taller magic Johnson with less defensive capabilities and strength. All of this combined basically sets up a sweep or 5 game series.

Here's one thing I noticed watching GSW vs Bulls. Watching Bulls was exciting and they can adapt to different styles of game play. Watching GSW today, they depend too much on those threes, so when they can't make those threes, they have a hard time winning. Curry is impressive with those layups but Bull's defense is no joke. Another thing I see in GSW and today's game is laziness. Guys stand around waiting for 3s. And a lot of times, I'm looking at Klay and Curry and I'm yelling at the TV screen for them to "keep moving" and "get back on defense". GSW is great at shooting but Bulls is a much stronger team, mentally and physically.
Know what you’re saying but defence back then was everyone sit in the paint, defence now involves a lot more running with the floor spacing which is harder work and I loved 90’s basketball
@@nikkyblammon6814 it's funny you mentioned a lot more running on today's games because the Bulls were known for their cardio and stamina up until to this day.
If you want understand how special and dominant that second three-peat team was what you really need to do is look at the Western Conference. Specifically looking at how they handled the Utah Jazz. That team had what is now the third leading scorer in NBA history, the number one guy in both steals and assist. They beat Kobe and Shaq, Duncan and Robinson, Olajawan Barkley and Drexler, all for the opportunity to have their ass handed to them twice. Better question might be could those Warriors beat those other teams? Who would they put on Shaq or Karl Malone? Draymond Green? LOL it ain't happening
In 98, the Bulls bead down the Jazz so hard in one game that as the game was going on the announcers were going on that it was a historic Finals blow out the likes that have not ever been seen. They were up by over 40 points at one point. Dominant doesn't even begin to describe that team.
" all for the opportunity to have their ass handed to them twice" We have different definitions of an ass handing. Both series went six games both with last second shots. what about that is an ass handing?
I was a kid in Portugal who played basketball that was fortunate enough to see these guys play at their prime in 96. Our team and my brother’s team would gather at my house to see the NBA games. A lot of love for Michael Jordan, he was and is the GOAT, but also a lot of love for Magic Johnson (who unfortunately retired that same year), Barkley, Bird, Pippen and Bogues.
The Bulls & their opponents gave us the last intense, hyper skilled, 100 % effort version of the game. Now it's a Harlem Globetrotter, entertaining, diva syle that will never be the same.
As a knick fan during the 80s and 90s I hated the bulls but respected the hell out of them. They played each game for blood and NEVER mailed in a performance.
One thing people always forget about the '96 Bulls is how dominate they were defensively. And when I say that, I mean this..... They would come out in the third quarter and dominate opponents with their defensive so much that the starters would not have to play the 4th quarter at all. I have watched NBA basketball since the 80's. The '96 Bulls were the only team I have ever seen consistently do that. It was like MJ and Scottie would say, ok..we're not playing the 4th quarter tonight and the team would literally make that happen to whoever the opponent was. They won 72 games. But they could've won 80. They put on the breaks and started resting people the last couple of weeks and they lost more games that they would've easily won at full strength. Unfortunately in today's game, all the focus is on offense. Defense is sooo undervalued and they hardly play any. It's all about trying to get on ESPN highlights or someone's ticktock. You let Ja Morant play against the Pistons, Knicks and Bulls of the 80's and 90's and have him try some of those plays he does and see how many rows in the stands he gets thrown. These players today would be injured so much, half of them would probably run to play international pro ball.
game is way more entertaining now and you can't argue against it. don't be upset that the game evolved to what it is. If the NBA never adapts, it becomes the MLB very easily. The game now is faster, more high flying and overall a better fan experience.
@deezocast imagine if the NBA was still playing like they did in the 1990s early 2000s. No one would enjoy basketball anymore. The game adapted and is now probably a top 3 sport on the planet. I do not care about the argument of the Bulls Warriors. But simply, being upset the game evolved to what it is now, and not giving players credit is wild to me.

Steph would shoot inefficiently more often than not. I mean the screens are an issue but this Bulls team was so OP defensively that they'd figure out how to help and switch (and they're extremely switchable). Rodman vs Draymond would be such a blast because Draymond got 90s attitude, he's the only guy who could play under those rules (and Steph is tough but not 90s tough). Dennis vs Draymond would be incredibly entertaining and please make it 90s rules because under today's rules, they both get ejected at least twice, taking away from the game. Then there's KD: arguably the most sensitive player in the league. Imagine what happens if you put Scottie on him, making it extremely tough - and then you switch to Rodman. KD is losing it, guaranteed
Rodman going to beat Geen on the boards along with Jordan and Harper over Curry and Klay, Pippen and Kukoc and Durant are a wash. More boards means more opportunities. Additionally, the Warriors are sloppy and turnover prone, Curry extremely streaky as a shooter. Frankly, his finals and playoff performances were garbage in terms of consitency until the last couple of years. Go look up the stats... for this supposed great player, you look in the finals and see how many games he has with 20 pts or less. Curry shoots you out of games. Bulls weren't turnover prone, even their second team protected the ball well.
I really didn't appreciate how stacked the bulls were until my man broke it down, 4 out of the 5 starters were named all time great nba defenders, wow...just wow. People forget about Ron Harper locking folks down.
The five guys Kerr named as a Bulls lineup was the lineup Don Nelson was always attempting to achieve. Give up a little size at the 4 and 5 but have two shooting guards and four ball handlers four very strong defenders and four offensive weapons that could create their own shots off the dribble. What an athletic talented and versatile five man squad that was. Add to that the triangle offense which teams didn't see except when they played the Bulls so they were at a disadvantage defending it. Scottie Pippen once said it takes about two years to learn it and that's if you're the team utilizing it so imagine the opposition seeing it once or twice a year when playing the Bulls and they have all those scorers coming at you from all directions. Rodman of course was the X factor just being Dennis.
Lets face it: 1. Ron Harper would make Steph's life super hard. 2. Jordan would eat Klay alive; both in offense and defense 3. Pippen would slow KD somewhat down. 4. Rodman would make Draymond Green cry at some point or ejected. 5. I will not talk about Kukoc x Pachulia...
And that's what they're forgetting: He's so good at 3s, that he considers them boring to his offensive scheme in hindsight. If he adapted 3s to his schemes along with the 96 bulls defense, GSW is Chris Handsome and Bulls is Fleece Johnson. IYKYK
That boondocks reference made me actually laugh out loud. It’s even funnier when you realize Fleece says “I’m a warrior!” As the scene transitions. Hahahaha
yeah and even with that, his 3 point game was not actually bad, it just didnt stand out compared to the insane levels of every other aspect of his game.
Yep and people forget that he was called out against Portland for that, and then torched with 3s, not because he had to, but because he wanted to prove a point.
Kerr said what I always say when this debate comes up, and that's that the Bulls had a lineup that is decently suited to play in today's NBA with their athleticism. They would adjust to the modern style easier than the Warriors would adjust to the 90s style. Not that it was be easy, but easier. Clear distinction.
Warriors think the 3 pointers would beat the Bulls. NO. The bulls would be shooting more 3 Pointers and traded for more shooters if they played in this Era. Jordan, Pippen would have a wide open court for easy layups, dunks, close shots at near 60% . Bulls defense too.BULLS WIN
I witnessed those Bulls, the 2nd 3peat Bulls in real time….their defensive versatility, as a team was absolutely unreal…think about it, MJ 6’6…long arms, rangy, best athlete (damn near on planet Earth) big hands, Pip 6’8…long arms rangy, absolute athlete, Rodman, 6’8, long arms, strong as hell, unbelievable instincts, Harper, 6’7 rangy, long, not the athlete he was before but still above avg…and they could all switch positions no problem…most teams could barely get the ball up court. And they were all willing to play significant defense 90 feet. Plus on the offensive end, it was the offensive rebounding that really killed you…Longley and Rodman on the glass getting them second, third, fourth opportunities just destroyed you. Those teams were so disciplined.
thank you, u have 4 guys that can switch on curry klay and kd with ease... nobody can defend like that on the warriors... u can contain the warriors but not mj... then u have kukoc at 6´10 shooting 3s and getting boards... off the bench u have kerr shooting longley 7´2 and wennington to go against javale and zaza so basically a wash there, buechler was a great shooter... west iggy and livingston u have sally... so, the bench is pretty much even, bulls shoot better warriors defend a little better and playmake, but if you just mix it up a bit, like kukoc off the bench, u got 3 snipers and the warriors can´t do nothing there... or ron harper and kerr with the starters... u have mj u you need to double, scottie, kukoc who is 6´10, kerr who can shoot lights out... the warriors may get a game if they all get hot hot, but 3 guys getting hot in the same game?...
I grew up in Salt Lake City and watched a ton of Jazz basketball. Ron Harper was the only guy who John Stockton struggled against. Harper’s length, athleticism, and defensive smarts disrupted Stockton’s ability to make his usual passes and get off open jumpers. Add in Pippen’s ability to defend around the court, and the Jazz’s usual clockwork offense was always out of sync. I think that the same thing would happen to the warriors. The ease that they score with against the mere mortals of today would be out the window and they would have to WORK to score. When the Bulls have the ball…look out!!
The only way to really ever get a close comparison is by the stats. Not by opinions. Lets not forget that the W’s proved they were better BEFORE KD joined the team by winning 73. But we can give the Bulls a free pass there. Instead, we can Take a look at the playoff stats of these two teams and compare them side by side, when it mattered most... Mind you, the W’s had to get through the much more talented western conf. And they SWEPT the entire playoffs!(dropped only one game to the Cavs in the finals.).. Side by side, the defenses actually match up nearly identical. The W’s even out rebound the Bulls too BTW. The difference maker is at the other end of the court. And I’m afraid to say that its NOT EVEN CLOSE! Going by the playoff numbers alone, the W’s would beat the Bulls by an average of 15 points a game! Not to take anything away from you Chicago faithful Bulls fans, but Damn. Give credit where credit is Due! And this video is clearly bias by showing all Bulls highlights and comparing the starting lineups. Zaza only played like 8 mins. Lol
@@champspec u just told everybody that u have no understanding of stats and just look at what's there lol more shot attempts equals more misses equals more rebound opportunities... And competiton?? A 73-9 team who added KD.. 😂😂😂 plus, you really think they can hang with the Bulls defensively??? Jordan dpoy 9x All defensive first team 3rd All time in steals Rodman 2x dpoy 7x All defensive first, 8 All d, pippen 7th All time in steals and 2nd in playoffs steals 10x All defensive team 8 of them first.... OMG... U just exposed yourself lol
And when Jordan and Pippen got a chance to take a breather (Rodman didn't need one), any offensive gains you'd be making would be offset by Kukoc lighting you up from literally anywhere. That was a tough team to beat.
MJ world be a damn night terror in todays game. No hand checking, no crowding the shooter, defensive 3 seconds, and spacing you can drive the team bus through. He’d easily average 40-42 ppg against the good teams, and probably 45-46 against the bad ones.
@@jonathanwashington9199MJ is the greatest 1 on 1 player who ever lived. Luka is averaging 34 with a bad 3 point shot. You really think MJ doesn’t average at least 35?
but with that Bulls teams he would have issues as there is almost no spacing. Longley and Rodman's man would just camp out in the paint waiting for him, Pippen and Harper's defenders could sag off. Jordan would still put up points because he is that good but people seem to just ignore those Warriors played great defense that year and played great team defense. When Jordan played you had to often depend on one on one defense, the Warriors wouldn't do that. They would have Iggy play Jordan up tight, try to shade him to a crowd and with very little spacing Jordan would be taking a ton of tough shots and as good as Jordan was he wasn't hitting 60% ever. Everyone likes to focus on physicality but that's not the issue, it's constantly having multiple guys challenge your shots and filtering you into places the defense wants you to because the Bulls spacing would be so compressed. You could bring in Kerr and Kukoc to help with that spacing but then you lose what made that Bulls team so awesome, the defense. This is why when people try to say the Bulls would do this or that or the Warriors would do this or that it's always foolish because each team was built perfectly for it's time. The Bulls built around Jordan exactly as they should have to compete for titles, the Warriors constructed their team during this era exactly as they should have, trying to throw one team in another era is unfair to either team as they weren't constructed for the different eras.
MJ in today's game and rules...would probably average 30ppg. Give him a break...he is almost 60 and hasn't played in years so I don't think 40 is possible. In his prime....MJ in today's game and rules would score at will. Nothing anyone in today's game could do to stop it.
Without a doubt, it’s going to be the ‘96 Bulls. It doesn’t matter about the rules. Too many defensive players to score on. And the transition to offense was unbelievable. The Warriors are second best.
Chatting shit, Id bet my money on warriors + kd, aint nobody stopping that warriors team, multiple screens, raining threes, warriors offense is too complex to defend on, even kobe admits it when he did a team analysis.
I don't see how the Warriors do not win in less than 6 games. Rodman would be dragged out the paint in a pic and roll with Steph and KD....in reality, it really wouldn't be remotely close....that Ws team was insane. It'd probably be a sweep in most cases.
No. Spurs with TD , Tony and Manu would whoop their asses too. As well as Kobe-Shaq in prime. You cant rely on 3s only to play tha game. And all the GS Warriors do is firing 3s and fast-break balls, thats it. And if they stop KDurant to 20-25 points and guard Steph good- its always 4-0 4-1 series not in GS favour. Not even close.
Glad you mentioned the transition to offense. That was one of the magical things about that '96 team. It was like they'd toy with you, keep you in the game for a quarter or two. Then MJ would snap his fingers and they'd bury you with 20 unanswered points. Didn't matter who it was. When the Bulls turned it on, it was like a freshman team playing the varsity.
People just don't understand how tough the league was in the 90's the defense was high difficulty the offense was more widespread and deeper all the way into the bench and fewer calls were made especially compared to this era where breathing on someone may get you a flagrant
Jordan got all the calls and D-Rod got ejected plenty. The 90s was tougher but suckers acting like people were getting stabbed on the court. It wasn't tougher it was just less soft it's basketball man
I love the bulls and expect them to win but curry is unstoppable in every era. His talent is unheard of. He would destroy Randy brown and Ron Harper. All they can do is pray he has an off night.
U could’ve kept Kenny comments out. He’s talking about adding players from Detroit pistons. We talking about the roster they had that year not a fantasy roster. Bulls win
Agreed. Kenny's comments are, as usual, irrelevant...you could go on all day like 10 year olds, like, oh yeah, well all the bulls would have to do is get a dennis scott or mitch richmond
I think Kenny's point was that under different rules, the teams would be contrasted differently; but that wasn't the point that everyone else was discussing.
The Bulls bench was also much deeper, Kukoc was 6th man of the year. Plus Randy Brown and Steve Kerr. I remember watching their bench running on teams back then.
@@TeacherLegendary The game right now is a game that mostly disregards defense and more focused on making more scores in threes. Now imagine the old boys locking these players ass full court because of their "don't let them score" mentality along with "hammer them with points" mentality as well. The old boys would tire these new gen "athlete" so much with their tenacious defense to the point they won't be able to score. Not to mention, the amount of mental and emotional damage they'd get from the old school trash talks.
For all the youngsters that didn't watch the 1991 NBA Finals Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen rotated on every play guarding Majic Johnson. They made it very difficult for him in the half court. John Paxson was too small of a point guard.
@shenialquankel2776 I believe it was game 2 that Pip guarded Magic for the rest of the series. Pip gave Magic problems. Picked him up 94 feet. MJ and Magic said that changed the series.
sore to the eyes, mostly can't shoot free throws, especially the center-like shock. They are slow and rely on bullying physically. That era is fewer skills compared to today.
I'm a Warriors and a Heat fan now. I was a teenager in the 80s, 20s in the 90s .... and now in my 50s in the 2020s. So blessed to have watched Kareem, Bird, Magic, Dr. J, Jordan, Hakeem, Ewing, Dirk, Shaq, Garnet Kobe, Duncan, Lebron, KD, Curry, Giannis, Luka, etc in their prime(in real-time). For me, the '96 Bulls is the more well-rounded and complete team than the 2017 GSW. Most teams find it hard to match up with the 2017 GSW because they have to sacrifice offense if they want to focus on defense and vice versa, and the firepower of GSW can overwhelm them. While the '96 Bulls could kill you in both offense and defense even in today's era.
Yes Indeed 💯 Agreed. the '95-'98 Bulls Lose to No Team, Sorry they would definitely beat the '17 Warriors No Problem. Nothing against to GSW, but they won when the NBA is slow, Everybody's starting to Retire, Kobie Duncan, Dirk. Bulls when they won their 6, the top 50 Players of All time, Were Still In Uniform & Playing🏀🏀🏀
I think you're forgetting how good the Ws were on defense that year as well....Draymond was DYOP wasn't he? KD had his best defensive season, Klay was in his prime and could guard 1-3, Iggy was a defensive stopper....and then let's talk about the offense.
Defense wins regardless of era...those Bulls had a far better defense and were offensively near unstoppable even though there was serious defense in the league and the Warriors put in that era would be bullied...so in this light defensive era the Bulls would run wild offensively and nobody would be ready for that level of defense so they would lock teams down including the Warriors...MJ, Scottie, Rodman and Harper could easily guard Steph, KD, Draymond and Klay but the real question is who could guard MJ and the answer doesn't exist on that Warriors roster...he would likely average nearly 50 in this series regardless of era
These are my two favorite teams of all time. I grew up just outside Chicago and have lived in the Bay area since 2012. As much as I have to say that Steph has slightly eclipsed Michael as my favorite creatively loaded mind-talent that has graced the NBA court, the sheer force of dominance and rounded talent combined with defensive prowess that Bulls team had I do believe would eventually smother the KD loaded Warriors. The key matchups would be Scottie on KD who would slow KD down and either Michael or harper on Steph. No one is slowing Jordan down and the indomitable force of his will to win in close games will continue to be the difference.
Besides Draymond Green, probably, I just don't see the Warriors having enough physicality to match against the Bulls even in today's era of basketball.
Can't imagine trying to guard Jordan without touching him. There is no era where the Warriors beat the 96 Bulls, some of the old Laker/Celtics teams would have a better chance.
There is no doubt if they played under the 90s rules, it would be a huge advantage for the bulls. The offensive players for Golden State would not be able to get separation. The length and athleticism of the bulls would be a problem also. Steph Curry and Klay Thompson what have their shots contested like never before. Pippin would do a reasonable job on Durant.
the sheer physicality of the normal season under the rules that the real greats had to play under would insure that none of the warriors would be healthy for the playoffs. In fact most of them would have had about a 5 year career.
And vice versa, can you imagine MJ with space and average defenders tryin to defend him 😆 It would be a joke. Not to mention the rest of the Bulls. No one on Golden State could even stop Pip. Then you throw in Luc and Toni Ron. All can hit jumpers and easy jumpers when you play with the true goat and king of basketball his Airness
That Bulls team was so elite defensively, I don't see how any team would have had much of a chance in 7 games. Pippen was a 6'8" lock down defender, Jordan was elite on both ends. Rodman was one of the greatest rebounders and defenders the game has ever seen. Plus they had Ron Harper and Toni Kukoc. On the defensive end they are an absolute nightmare.
I think the great teams of the 80's and the Hakeem Rockets were a bad matchup for the Bulls. I'm talking Celtics, Sixers and Lakers. All 4 of those teams had dominate bigs that would have been a problem for the Bulls. The 80's teams had great teams around the bigs. While the Rockets had the greatness of Hakeem. Who could not be stopped. The Shaq, Kobe Lakers teams would have been difficult. The 96 Bulls were the most versatile style team of all time. As an overall team. I think only the Celtics, Lakers of the 80's and probably the KD Warriors are the only really close teams.
Uh Bird beat them both, swept them in playoffs. Made Pippen look stupid, and it didnt matter how many MJ scored, they still got swept TWICE in the playoffs. So stop with the cap.
@@globaloutdoorinnovations7511 Pip and Mike were both two of the best defenders in the league. I'd say Pip was slightly better but both of them were monsters on defense, then you have Rodman who was a monster on defense and Harper was a great defender too. I don't think anyone on GSW would be able to stop MJ. KD is damn near unstoppable too but Pippen would do a better job on him than any Warrior on MJ
Injuries. The rules in the 90 and earlier led to injuries. Everyone was playing hurt. People would play on an injured knee or with a blown elbow then go get surgery in the off season. There were men who were revered and respected for being able to take the hits, play hurt, and still put out numbers night after night. Other players just fell apart. Noone knows who's who until the season gets to about a third of the way in. Early season superstars had numbers that just collapsed by the halfway point. When I think about Old NBA vs New NBA that's what I think about. How many of the new players would make it till the end of a season under the old rules and still be that good? There's footage of Larry Bird laying out next to the team bench because his back hurts too much to sit, then he'd go back out and be Larry Bird. How many of today's stars would implode from a season under the old rules? Statistically not all of them would make it to the end of a season and still be any good. The old NBA was an endurance campaign.
The Bulls won then and they would win now! They played the best fast team defense and fast team offense basketball! They make all the adjustments needed to stop another team's momentum!🏀🏆🥇
They talk about match-up for the defense way of the bulls but they don't talk about their physic : Harper, Pippen, Jordan and Rodman had all the same aspect to be "small" but having very long arms, a real nightmare for the passing game too. Difficult to compare 1996 and 2017 but with few specific works, for example 3pts shoot, the bulls could play today when even with a lot of change, the warriors could not play in the 90's.
@@lopsii902you mean the warriors with KD who almost lost to the rockets if cp3 don’t get hurt game 7 they lose 😂overrated team the league was just weak
I imagine head coaches had nightmares about Harper, Pippen, Rodman and Jordan running the full court press. Possibly the greatest defensive lineup in history and the Center was basically a non factor.
Yeah run a full court press against the Warriors smallball lineup with Draymond as a Center. Kerr would just plant him at midcourt and the Warriors would get a layup every possession. The difference between 90s teams and the 17 Warriors is chaotic
@@BasketballJunkie1324 yeah no. You don’t know what you’re talking about. When someone says a team ran a full court press with Harper, Pippen, Rodman and Jordan, it doesn’t mean those 4 are all in the back court and you can just throw the ball over their heads. You honestly think no nba team could have tried passing to half court? Come on man.
@@BasketballJunkie1324 the difference is the Bulls we’re a better team, they had 4 of the 5 best defenders that would be on the floor. The best scorer would be on the bulls. And the Warriors, for the only time, would’ve facing a team defense with scorers all around. Bulls would crush GS. No question other than does GS even take one game.
Keeping in mind, too, that the '96 Bulls full-stop mailed-in the last two games to give their main guys some rest before the playoffs. Could easily have been a 74-8 Bulls team, and all 8 were against great playoff teams, a bunch of those 8 were OT, and all of them were single-digits.
You need a history lesson - they lost by a huge margin in one knicks game, and they lost to the 20-win Raptor franchise in their inaugural season. Other then that, they crushed the league and no team beat them twice all year, except the great Sonics in the finals.
its so true with that hypothetical, no one on GS is stopping Jordan and Pippen. No one on GS is stopping the bulls from scoring and the Bulls will make life a living hell for Durant and the splash bros.
I completely agree with what chuck said, that line up of harper, jordan, pippen, kukoc, and rodman... they would absolutely kill in this era. Id give the warriors 1 game maybe...
@@BJ-zv5nl you're clearly a casual. Manu Ginobli started a total of 10 games his last 7 seasons. And started less than half the games in a season 12 out of 16 seasons he played..
@BJ-zv5nl clearly you don't follow much basketball because Kevin McHale, Lou Williams, Jamal Crawford and Manu Ginobli were all better 6th men. Harden may have developed into a better player than them but he wasn't better then them dudes when he was a sixth man.
People forget Bulls also had some of the greatest 3-point shooters, John Paxson, Steve Kerr, Craig Hodges. If playing with 90's rules, GS would have less 3's, not be able to penetrate as well and would be out rebounded by a mile. I think 4-1 or 4-2 Bulls sounds pretty accurate. If playing with today's rule, I think the series would be much closer but I'd still give the edge to the Bulls. Would've loved to see the 96 Bulls play the 72 Lakers, but one can only dream.
I am a lifelong Orlando Magic fan, but was a HUGE Jordan fan as well as a kid (I live in Iowa, so even if the Bulls weren't on national TV, there was always WGN and Johnny "Red" Kerr). After the 1996 ECF where they STOMPED my Magic, ended our budding dynasty (in my mind), and then Shaq went to the Lakers..... I have hated Jordan and the Bulls ever since. But there is still no question that the 1996 Bulls are the greatest team of all-time, and Jordan is the greatest player to ever play the game.
So I guess some of us are going to ignore what the man who played with the Bulls AND the Warriors said when he stated that the Bulls were MADE for this era. No hand checking and spacing? MJ and his Jordanaires would demolish this league right now 😂
@@fearthemunky1 the only one that was truly rough was Dennis and hell who wasn’t rough on the block back then….Scottie,Ron,MJ were not know as physical defenders they were know as elite technical defenders
The key factor between the 96' bulls and the 2017 Warriors is Jordan. I think the bulls would have killed the warriors when you look at the talent on their 96' team. How many hall of famers? I don't think people understand how intense a Type A personality Jordan is/was. Everyone speaks of his extreme competitiveness but what drove that was his type A personality. Prime Jordan would destroy Prime Lebron because of Jordan's intensity. Both guys are/were athletic freaks of nature. However, Jordan's athletic abilities coupled with his intense Type A kill at all costs personality gets the win. The other thing I think of when folks talk about the greatest basketball player of all time is how Jordan just looked like the the perfect basketball player. Tall, lean, athletic with a beautiful shot. Who looked better playing the game? It's a shame the two greats of the 80's and 90's don't participate in more interviews about that time period. I'm speaking of Jordan and Larry Bird. You never see either on a podcast or a basketball show like TNT's. I'm sure they have some great stories we haven't heard from them.
It's mainly this better defense always wins over better offense...because the better defense team still has the talent to score but the better offense team lacks in the defense stops.
I have to go with the Bulls in that match up. The series would be closer if played using the rules of the current era and a clean sweep if played using the rules of the 90's. Another match up I would be curious about against the 2017 Warriors would be the 1972 Lakers. Would use 90's rules for that one given that would be the middle ground between the two eras in that match up.
Do you think Rodman would dominate Wilt on Boards or get him flustered ? I don't . Oh Mike would get his jump shots off & Pippen might in some situations but Wilt would need to score more than he was doing at that time but no one who played him would keep him from Rebounds & if you can't run Fast Breaks much as Bulls did in 96 their game would not be as potent cause MJ wouldn't dunk on Wilt in paint very little if any .
I think it all comes down to what rules they played by. If they played real basketball the 96 Bulls all day. If they played todays game...96 Bulls all day.
Nice 😂
@@rickbateman2401 Exactly!

The 90’s Bulls destroyed my ability to watch much basketball after them. Being a young adult in Chicago, I watched almost every single game the Bulls played in the 90’s. They were so amazing that after that run it was like watching a high school team.
No lies told here
I think that is my issue, I can barely watch basketball now, We was spoiled as a fan base to the point where our cup is filled.
Because of MJ, I bought 2 TV's ... one bigger than the other as I could afford it.
Agree completely. I just said the other day that as soon as that Bulls team was done, my outlook on all sports changed. It's never been the same again or even close.
I love that Harper is getting the credit he deserved. Dude was so underrated.
He really was. He had multiple double digit games and he doesn't get the credit he deserves. Same with Tony kukoc

And Longley was underrated.

There's no defense because Jordan got the rules changed for him.
You nailed it! 💯. The smartest thing i've heard all day. 👍
This^. He couldn’t!

The 96-98 Bulls had the best perimeter defense I've ever seen.

People forget that apart from the three great HOF players (Jordan, Pippen and Rodman) the bulls had Toni Kukoc, Steve Kerr and the x-factor: Ron Harper!

I was in 4th grade in 96’ and I still remember those bulls.. Watching NBA back then was an art..
In 1994, CCTV officially broadcasted NBA games. Before that, I watched the highlights of the games. I was deeply impressed by the Bulls-Suns game.
Perimeter defense was also tougher, so it didn't make sense for Jordan to keep on going for threes when he could be easily blocked or at least be made to miss.
Now you know why they never had to play a game 7 in a finals series. They went with consistency

Or getting doubled teamed by Pippen MJ, or Pippen Rodman. The Warriors were a great offensive team. The Bulls were great on offense and defense.
Offence vs defence,
One thing people always forget about the '96 Bulls is how dominate they were defensively.

Rodman d n rebounding, n he could pass
He was a great player

KD is losing it, guaranteed
reggie and rik fucking smiths took them to 7 games, get real, warriors will sweep
Mr Kerr would need to be cloned
Jordan wouldn't let Steph take so many trees..he always wanted to guard the best player of the opposing team
In 1996 Steph would own the shortened 3 point line. 3 point bombs all over Chicago from the Warriors
I really didn't appreciate how stacked the bulls were until my man broke it down, 4 out of the 5 starters were named all time great nba defenders, wow...just wow. People forget about Ron Harper locking folks down.
people forget Cleveland Ron Harper was scoring machine too, before his knee injury
Rodman found 3 pointers many times when others were running cold. It always started an everybody is on fire session.
I'm going with The 96 Chicago Bulls 🐂🐂🏀 Over The 2017 Golden State Warriors 🏀
Lets face it:
1. Ron Harper would make Steph's life super hard.
2. Jordan would eat Klay alive; both in offense and defense
3. Pippen would slow KD somewhat down.
4. Rodman would make Draymond Green cry at some point or ejected.
5. I will not talk about Kukoc x Pachulia...
The case with MJ was that he didn’t shoot threes cause he didn’t want to. If he would focus on that element, he would be a hell of a shooter.

This is what I try to tell niggas anybody’s 3peat twice that simple 🤷🏿
thank you, u have 4 guys that can switch on curry klay and kd with ease... nobody can defend like that on the warriors... u can contain the warriors but not mj... then u have kukoc at 6´10 shooting 3s and getting boards... off the bench u have kerr shooting longley 7´2 and wennington to go against javale and zaza so basically a wash there, buechler was a great shooter... west iggy and livingston u have sally... so, the bench is pretty much even, bulls shoot better warriors defend a little better and playmake, but if you just mix it up a bit, like kukoc off the bench, u got 3 snipers and the warriors can´t do nothing there... or ron harper and kerr with the starters... u have mj u you need to double, scottie, kukoc who is 6´10, kerr who can shoot lights out... the warriors may get a game if they all get hot hot, but 3 guys getting hot in the same game?...

Glad you mentioned the transition to offense. That was one of the magical things about that '96 team. It was like they'd toy with you, keep you in the game for a quarter or two.
That 96 Bulls team... legend.
I believe those Bulls teams created the saying ‘Must watch TV’. You miss a game, you probably missed something special.
MJ and his Jordanaires would demolish this league right now 😂
The other side of that is the great Bulls defense wouldn’t be able to play rough under current rules.
Yeahh.i agree that nobody can stop MJ in this era
Correction…ANY era
Correction…ANY era
It's mainly this better defense always wins over better offense...because the better defense team still has the talent to score but the better offense team lacks in the defense stops.
I have to go with the Bulls in that match up. The series would be closer if played using the rules of the current era and a clean sweep if played using the rules of the 90's. Another match up I would be curious about against the 2017 Warriors would be the 1972 Lakers. Would use 90's rules for that one given that would be the middle ground between the two eras in that match up.
Lakers.
sweep it is for sure
Do you think Rodman would dominate Wilt on Boards or get him flustered ? I don't . Oh Mike would get his jump shots off & Pippen might in some situations but Wilt would need to score more than he was doing at that time but no one who played him would keep him from Rebounds & if you can't run Fast Breaks much as Bulls did in 96 their game would not be as potent cause MJ wouldn't dunk on Wilt in paint very little if any .
