  • Steph or MJ? Who ya got?
Andre Iguodala & Evan Turner deep dive on the full roster matchups that would comprise their take on which team would win between the 2017 Golden State Warriors (Klay Thompson, Kevin Durant, Steph Curry, Draymond Green, etc) & the 1996 Chicago Bulls (Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, Dennis Rodman, etc) An insightful (and heated) debate.
The Point Forward podcast, hosted by former NBA teammates and current best friends Andre Iguodala and Evan Turner, uses basketball as a pretext to honestly and openly talk about business, culture, race, tech, and, yes, sports. Specifically, over the course of weekly hour-long episodes that drop on #pointforwardfriday, Iguodala and Turner, discuss and debate current national and global events in a way that is meant to resonate with everyone from the Silicon Valley elite to teenagers on the south side of Chicago.

I don't really know what you mean by more talented. There are only 9 active players that are in the top 100 all-time leading scorers. Of the top 100 All-Time scorers 25 of played in or are from the Golden State Warriors or LeBron James era of basketball. The other 75 are from the Bulls era of basketball or older. This means that even with ALL the "more skilled" players you're claiming, they're still not putting a dent in the main or leading stat category. The only thing that has really changed is the shot selection and maybe the skill @ shooting that shot that is more preferred now which is the 3pt shot but that still has not created more prolific scorers. The last prolific scorers were Wilt Chamberlain and Michael Jordan. They are the only two top 10 all-time leading scorers that did not play 19 or 20 years in the NBA. Wilt played 14 years and Jordan played 15 years. They both also are the only 2 in the top 10 that played less than 1100 games all other players in the top 10 played 1200 or more games. The only active player that is threatening and probably will crack the top 10 in scoring in less than 1100 games is Kevin Durant. He sits at 13th all time right now with 986 games under his belt. That in and of itself shows that Durant is a, or rather, the prolific scorer of the Golden State Warriors and LeBron James era though he still will take more than 16 years to pass up Wilt and Jordan. The precedence I am trying to set is that with all this skill they got today it is taking them quite a lot of time to pass up the "plumbers" of yesterday since that's what they call them in this era AND they shoot the 3pt more and a lot better than the "plumbers." Really the only reason why most of them look like they're scoring more is they are just playing longer. Imagine if Wilt or Jordan played 19 or 20 years also. What kind of scoring conversation would we be having. Again I'm emphasizing the skill of scoring because that is what ultimately determines who wins the game.
      1. LeBron James
      2. Kevin Durant
      3. James Harden
      4. Russell Westbrook
      5. Chris Paul
      6. Stephen Curry
      7. DeMar DeRozan
      8. Damian Lillard
      9. Rudy Gay
These are the active 9 that are in the top 100 of scoring from greatest in points to the least. I suggest you look @ how many years they've been playing. Then possibly if you let go of your bias you'll realize that the players to today are not as great as they're making them out to be and to stop disrespecting the players sorry I mean "plumbers" of yesterday.💯🔥🔥🔥

Jordan claiming curry, Pippen frustrating KD, Harper containing Klay, Rodman clamping Draymond. The warriors don’t have the defense to stop the bulls triangle offense. MJ struggles against quick guards so guarding Curry isn't going to work for him! Chris Jackson, Allen Iverson both would cooked MJ, Pip had to guard those players. NBA skills are to great, 2017 shooting more 3s while Bulls are shooting 2s. No chance!

I'm not saying the Warriors would win hands down. I'm saying any of these 2 teams could beat each other in 7 game finals.
I'd give the slight edge to Jordan's Bulls cuz of Jordan alone. But they never had to guard the star power of Curry, KD and Thompson when it comes to their movement and their ability to shoot. And this Warriors defense is nothing to sneeze at either. They were # 2 overall in the Playoffs. Their 16-1 Playoff record is the best in NBA history.

I think it is a bad idea to double team off of Rodman or Harper. MJ has already shown he can regularly neutralize double teams. Playing off of Rodman can only lead to more offensive rebounds for chicago and Harper has been a 20 point average scorer before he joined the bulls.
There are 3 parts in a basketball game.
    Offense, defense and rebounding.
96 Bulls has the advantage in 2 of those 3.
Warriors may be better on offense but the Bulls has MJ, probably and arguably the best scorer of all time.
Steph used to struggle with physical defense until this past season. His improve strength made him able to handle the celtics physicality which was not the case in 2017.
KD struggles with double team and physicality. they bring up PJ Tucker here but PJ is only 6'5. Rodman and Pippen were 6'8 to 6'9.
Jordan would probably be on Steph, in 1998 MJ has shown he can navigate through screens as he was trying to defend Reggie Miller.

    • @dustfid
      @dustfid ปีที่แล้ว +8

Rodman is 6'6 and Pippen is 6'8.*
The better argument is Rodman and Pippen are two of the top defensive forwards all-time who can lock up multiple positions and switch between Steph and KD. Jordan can guard Klay and Harper will guard Draymond. The Bulls had four superior defenders and a big body center in the middle with Longley/Wennington or they can go small ball for Kukoc and just run the break and be aggressive on offense.

Nah he’s not wrong at all, our squad tends to have problems with bucket-getters and no one was as great at that as Michael Jefferey Jordan. Plus we have trouble w/ physicality & athleticism (‘19 Raptors, ‘22 Grizzlies, etc.) and MJ/Pip/Harper/Rodman were some dogs, picking up full court and everything. Couple that w/ the triangle system, a generational bench piece in Kukoc and you have arguably the only team in NBA history I’ll willingly admit could beat that ‘17 Dubs team….

Tight defense and hand checking changes everything. It keeps defenders closer both on and off the ball. The free flowing game style of today makes for easy drives and open looks all day; by 80/90s rules everything is contested and splash bros grind to a halt like they did against an amped cavs team playing their asses off in 2016. Add hand checking to inspired defense and warriors are frustrated, out of rhythm and losing their luster every trip up the court. Then they have to defend against MJ and a cohesive battle tested bulls squad on the other end. Warriors have no chance with all the physicality at play. I don’t think modern NBA fans understand how much the game changes when someone has their hand on your hip the whole time. You can play closer without getting burned by a drive and also contest shooting/3 ball. The rules were changed for the benefit of scoring; it’s never been easier to score and get comfortable with your long range game. The comparison cannot be without considering how each team would adapt to the rules/style of play.

MJ, pip, dennis, and ron can switch up in defense... that's 3 nba all-defense and a 6'6 bulldog on defense... toni can shoot lights out, steve was still the most accurate 3-p shooter in the history... wennington and longley are centers who can also shoot mid-range shots... if toni played in today's NBA, he will be like a slightly lower version of KD with better passing.....

Ron Harper was a perennial allstar that shot better than Pippen before he joined the Bulls. Tony Cucoch was a really good shooter as well. And Scottie by 96 was a good shooter to. The difference is the defensive pressure. Guys from this are know little about real physical Defense. They can't apply it and definitely couldn't deal with it. Dennis held a prime Shaq mote than once to very low scoring. Holding KD would be easier plus he was a masyer at getting in your head with mind games. The warriors had a roster full of talented shooters that have thrived in the soft era of defense. The Bulls were sharpened in the toughest defensive era of the league. It wouldn't even be close. 4-2 if the Bulls slacked up a couole games. Remember, they swept a prime Shaq and Penny. Even their coach (Steve Kerr) said it.

Rodman was so versatile, and strong as hell. plus I think Rodman would get under KDs skin. he would keep kds numbers down. now that's playing by 90's rules, today is a whole different ball game, Rodman would probably foul out by half time. lol. I think they are underestimating Kukoc. he was great. great shooter, could handle the ball and if they play him at point instead of Pippen, that would be a hard match up. I think steph would give the bulls some trouble, hes great off the ball and got a quick shot, especially today's rules, 90's rules being more physical, they could slow steph down but I think he'd still put up some numbers.
