    The biggest preventative to skin damage is to use sunscreen. As an RN at 21 a dermatologist showed me a patient’s back and neck of an older rancher and the neck looked like old, tough, dark, cracked shoe leather but his back was smooth and pale. It was the late 70’s and sunscreen wasn’t as advanced as now, but I wore hats, sunglasses, and sunscreen as much as possible. In my 40’s, I wore vee necked scrubs, worked nights and rarely went out during the day but used sunscreen. One day, I noticed that I had a vee shaped tan and realized that it had to come from the artificial lights in the hospital. I suggest that people put on sunscreen every day, even inside. I am 65 and get compliments on my skin, recently from my dental hygienist who said that the lights they use highlight everything. It might not be noticeable when you are younger, but it definitely will make a difference when you age. One also needs to treat your neck with the same care.

    I prefer the Olay. I am 32 with combo skin (very oily forehead, nose and chin but dry and flaky cheeks). I love that one, the retinol 24 fragrance free. It really makes my skin glow! I think it has actually helped my acne as well, maybe because it clears the pores as you said. I have definitely noticed it has even my skin texture as well. However I absolutely love Cerave for facial cleanser. I use the foaming one that says oil control. For some reason, that cerave retinol broke me out. But the cerave cleanser and olay cream...perfect combo for me! 😊

    Thank you so much for this informative clip Doc. I'm 44 and purchased a jar of Olay Regenerist Retinol cream a week ago as a friend told me to start including retinol in my routine. (I was complaining that I feel that my skin has aged overnight since turning 44). I've used Olay twice this week and I must say, I am super impressed with how my skin already looks. Looks so dewy! I just need to work through the slight itchiness around my mouth but I believe that will subside with time. From what I can tell after watching this video, is that I'm on the right track with Olay! I absolutely love the Cerave products. I'm 51 now dealing with dry sensitivity break outs for the first time in my life and this product has been a huge winner for me. Pores are less visible. I will not change my routine unless someone finds me a guaranteed product that does better. Never before was I so sensitive to products until a year ago. Love that no fragrance and the ingredients are all beneficial in one bottle for my skincare needs. I've used the renewal as well but the results are by far better for me once I switched to the resurfacing. Appreciate hearing a professional review of this product. I also use the Cearve hydrating hyaluronic acid serum applying before the resurfacing. So far it's a winner for me. I have the whole line cleanser, toner day & night moisturizer as well. You can take the quiz on their website and it does help get you started by recommending products for your specific needs. Showing you what pairs well together. I used their advice when switching to the resurfacing and I'm so glad I did. Thanks for sharing your advice and reviews! Much appreciated!

    • @katydid5088
      @katydid5088 3 ปีที่แล้ว +26

      The retinol formulation overall is more important than percentage. Just like sunscreen, while a computer model technically provides some theoretical information about a formulations efficacy, the end product when applied to skin, and it's function is determined by real world use conditions and the underlying condition of the skin.

      And, retinol formulation and testing data is proprietary due to copyright laws. Thirdly, a Joe schmoe chemist that really can't/doesn't have the lab facilities and cleanliness standards of an actual cosmetics company can introduce horrific infections over time.

I'd seen retinol usage in a lot of videos, but I had no idea where to start or what to start with because every face is different. BUT this video has completely changed my perspective on retinol, and I'd want to give it a go this time. As a result, I placed an order for Cerave Resurfacing Retinol serum.In the winter, my skin is dry, and in the summer, it is greasy in the t-zone. Large pores on my cheeks, as well as creases around my eyes and forehead, are now more noticeable. So I'm hoping that this serum will serve as a starter.

    I hate to disagree with Dr. Sugai, but I've used both of these retinol brands, I find the Olay24 a little drying (I guess it's stronger than Cerave), I always wake up with a dry lips when I use Olay, even when I put lip balm before sleeping. Also, it's very silky on my fingers, it made my pillow silky, my eyes were dry that I was having a hard time opening them. It's messy.
    I love the Cerave retinol coz it's not messy to use, it hydrates my face more, although, it probably is milder that it might take longer to take effect. I'm not in a hurry anyways, so yeah, Cerave. ❤❤❤❤
    Always choose the one that would make you enjoy the journey. Olay may be stronger and might give faster results, I'm just having a hard time liking when it's on my face. I hope I'll get used to it.

    Formulation matters even at a low % ....We saw better results from using both of these than any of the retinols from The Ordinary or Inkey or L'Oréal unfortunately YMMV !plus no other moisturisers needed after using them either .
