Its kinda funny, how the horror of the dark room was "ruined" for me as a kid because when I got to gmod i had less internet access than now and i played the map with Dev commentaries, that just straight up told "yep, this room is to test light sources."

xalalau isn't just any gmod veteran. the dude is pretty much the messiah of the brazilian gmod community. the dude has been here literally since the beginning, creating stuff and fucking around with loads of projects, from simple addons to organizing a portuguese translation effort for half life.
I used to make really silly machinimas when I was a kid, and xalalau made me a map specifically for me to use in one video, gm_kitchen. it's still up on the workshop, and as I've just learned, they even made a remastered version with ARC lore in it! that's just wild to me!
Oh wow! That's really cool of him to do. I just wanna point that out because that's like going out of your way to do nice things, it's great.

I also want to mention that it's super nice of the creator to upload an alternate "v2" of the map without the spooks so one can appreciate the little changes on their own and in my case, even use it over the vanilla Construct.
Yet it still scared the shit out of me, especially the tunnels

I have actually tried to build submarines in Gmod. It's not much of a submarine though, they aren't supposed to be full of water.

I loved how cooperative the creator of the map was. I asked them how they had rooms appear and disappear, and they gave me the whole source code to their own modified version of seamless portals.
I didn't figure it out because i am dumb, but it just shows that the creator is a nice guy

Even though I went in blind, an addon I had caused LUA errors that spoiled me on how the tunnels work: certain sections have portals that teleport you to other parts of the tunnel system, and they're not always active.
The same error also tipped me on the whole mirror portal, too. Though I don't think I would have thought about entering the mirror at all, so I guess I have this error to thank for helping me out lol

The Librarian joining you for this experience was unexpected, but he's one of my favorite youtubers, so I'm here for it.
the multiplayer bit is so clever there's so many things you could do with that. you could totally make live camera feeds of random people's singleplayer servers, cause remote events, you could do dark souls invasion type stuff, so many possibilities.
I explored this map with my friend, it was extremely fun but even after we uninstalled it the Gordon statue thing and mingebags kept showing up so we were literally unable to play GMod normally for like a week

There's an addon called "Gmod 9 Engine Port" that also adds these types of things into your game. Disable that addon too if you have it

Only thing I occasionally see is the Gordon statues, no mingle bags, I didn’t get the add on for them so look to see if you have a mingle bag add on?

Back in 2012, me and my friends we're so curious about this map. We would explore the whole area to see if we could find any "Easter eggs" around, but nothing. Something only caught our attention when we first played the map, obviously it was the black empty rooms. Clueless, we roamed the area with flashlights and find nothing but only empty liminal space. The next day, i played on the map once again but with myself. I've never felt so uncomfortable on a game before that's why i left as fast as i could, and i came back with my balls of steel. I investigated the dark room, just to be surprised with an eerie background music. I genuinely left the game with my heart beating so fast. I told my friends about it and we all started to play together to further explore the place, and once again the music played but we chose to ignore it. We never tried to enter the next 2 dark rooms because we we're in a limited time. But after that we chose to give up exploring the area considering of the uncanny feeling.

i love how the discoverys are all tied to pre-existing gmod args, it feels like a love letter to those stories while adding intrigue to what each puzzle is referencing
This map honestly just feels like a love letter to Gmod ARG enthusiasts. It has some of the most common tropes seen in Gmod ARG's and they use them all very well in my opinion. Imputing commands, dark shadowy people, mysterious entities, radios, teleporting, all of it. The amount of work and loopholes and work-arounds the team behind this would have had to do within the Source Engine really impresses me and I am very intrigued to see how far it'll go...

Holy crap. I thought I dreamed up all those details about Construct, especially the tunnels at 7:10 . I remember playing the beta and I (as well as *alot* of other people) really hated the new UI. Silly in hindsight but we were so used to gmod 12. I never realised that gm_construct got updated when Gmod 13 got its full release and for years I've thought that I was going insane, remembering a bunch of very specific details about construct that could no longer be found. I can finally rest easy knowing that I was in fact, not a complete lunatic.
sadly ive never played gmod cuz i didnt have enough money so i had to settle for rmod (roblox gmod) and i swear i saw those tunnels and rooms but last time i played they werent there

Oh man, I got crazy into the map and arg quite some time ago before I forgot about it. It's crazy to see how much it has developed since then. The spooks and scares continue to evolve, no matter who dares to perceive it.
Love that you got the librarian to do that reading of the description. Especially since he does a lot of gmod stuff himself lmao
People look at GM_Construct and never think about the fact that it looks like it was designed for combat. Embrasures on the walls - chokepoints, the mirror room can even be defined as a bunker.
Fun fact, the snowmen from the map will actually follow you to other maps as well, or maybe vacant industry is also part of this whole ARG
Everything follows you, the map has secrets but the addon with it is what makes the spooky things happen, so it works on all maps cuz addon

I remember playing on hl2 lost coast map and having fun with paint gun from portal 2. When I was shooting I accidentally shot at the moutain and literally I uncovered invisible semper with blue paint. It was the scariest shit Ive ever saw in gmod..

honestly after reading most of House of Leaves I was just waiting for something like this to pop up after also seeing My House.Wad. Gmod would be the perfect place for one such as this with its varied history
I will say it's a lot less focused on the psychological aspects like HoL or MyHouse that REALLY make them interesting, but it's still cool to see especially how they twist up the Map.
This is one of my favorite videos from this channel, please do more videos like this. It reminds me of the doom map “my house” I downloaded it thinking it was a normal map and it freaked me out. Keep up the good work richter!

I have hundreds of hours in gmod since I got it in 2012 (Construct having last been updated on my 18th birthday was a cool and kind of spooky coincidence.) and I’ve always felt an eerie vibe from that dark room. That moment with the light flickering and what appears to be dust kicking up from something movin absolutely made my hair raise. That’s so unnerving and I love it. The creepy atmosphere naturally ingrained in this map being used as the catalyst to actually place creepy happenings is such an awesome idea! Bravo to the creators!

Interesting thing about the whole "Semper following you to other maps" thing is that I'm pretty sure it also applies to some of the other entities, like info_player_start and the weird snowman thing
I should know because after I downloaded the map, they started appearing in other maps too (Semper included)

it's cool to see all the changes and updates to the map after i (and the other small handful of early pioneers of the map's discoveries on the third to last dev exploration notes post) covered it for a time, especially in the hints department - it was really hard finding certain puzzles blind ~2 years ago
for anyone curious this video did miss a few spooks so i'd say it's certainly worth it poking around for yourself to see what you may stumble upon!

the fact that the mingebags are actual human players on the map, playing at the same time as you is really cool and unexpected
i remember that back when i was super young, i saw a certain video that was basically a player going out of bounds and finding a mysterious billboard that teleported them to a very unsettling place. and since i was super young, my brain eventually filtered it out and instead processed it as a made up memory. but a while ago, maybe like a year or two ago, i saw the video again and i was like "holy shit it's not just a fake memory!" either way, the video terrified me deeply, but now that i know more about it... it makes it even cooler lmao
i also remember watching a video before on this map and i genuinely found it so disturbing and i still do 💀 you pulled this video off so well with explaining the history of it

The storytelling of the map's creator and the amount of thought & creativity is ungodly. I haven't seen many things quite like this since I started playing in 2009. I'd downloaded this map and played on it a couple dozen times without really 'exploring'. Wild to think that this map from a game I stopped playing years ago had so much more to it. I never would've found out if not for the video.
24:14 like the second the lightning appeared, an ad played, and it was one of those road saftey ads where they show you a corpse, meaning as the lightning struck I saw a bloody hand

13:30 the sound is just being used to convey the radio making a weird interference noise when the operator drops it. the guy up there is the one on the loudspeakers indicating the arrival of the gunships. the sound can actually be triggered multiple times if you bring the prop back up
I am so glad i was able to experience this map blind, at the time i had not even heard of "haunted" maps before, and thought this map was just what it said on the tin, so seeing the weird occurrences happening around me was absolutely insane. Really too bad i didn't record it.
This map really does seem like a love letter to old gmod and Valve culture
Somehow this whole thing reminds me a lot of CoD Zombies easter eggs, but from the times they were just introduced. It really felt like a solving of a greater puzzle, like there's something more than just silly side mode
We need more Richter n Librarian gmod collabs, i feel like they would work really well together doing vids and exploring weird maps together

Richter's a rookie. In the good days of gmod 10 and 11 there were plenty of submarines built, mainly using hoverballs and thrusters to float about.
Considering all the references and easter eggs to all sort of GMod horror maps and videos this map seems like a celebration of GMod horror as a whole, showing off what makes it so interesting and fun in one large experience!

Hearing The Librarian in this was a definite treat! I'm a fan of his content, so this little crossover was great!
One thing i have not seen any player of this map talk about is something me and my girlfriend encountered playing on a 2 player server with just me and her. A random player joined with a strange name that I cant remember at this point, but he said something in chat telling us to leave the game. We both freaked out and when i turned around he appeared behind me, killed me, and left the game. He wasnt on my friends list, we had no other mods installed at the time and looking at the discussions on the maps page, no one else experience it. I posted about our experience and it gained a little bit of traction and no one else encountered it except one other person who claimed it happened to them while they played the map on singleplayer.
Also I should note the fact his player model was just Kleiner. When opening the scoreboard he appeared as a real player. He had normal animations and wasn't A-posing like the usual mingebags. I also remember that when he joined, the anomaly detector cone freaked out and turned red. The discussion should still be up on the mod page but I posted about it around the time the map first gained traction

This reminds me of a time where like everyone in my tf2 sever just left and i was alone, it creeped me out so bad. Just wandering around a space just previously filled with goofy shinanigans that was now dead silent is unnerving.
Whenever I want to practice rocket jumping and I load up a map, I always feel that. Someone should be here, but there's no one...
My friend also has TF2. When he got the Eyelander, he wanted to test it out, so he loaded a new map. After he spawned, he started watching yt with his headphones on. Then the Eyelander started talking.
