    Hey Mo thanks to your video I found out that I had the same vacuum leak! Your video's are always very helpful! That was one of the problems the other one was the clamp on the left intake manifold boot was loose and the head of the screw was stripped and loose!

    Well done sir! Last week I bought an '02 1800 the same burnt orange as yours. I can't wait to start riding it.

    Thanks Mo. I just bought a 97 GL1500SE that began a surge idle. I've gone through all the beginnings of a tune up, ie oil change, fuel and air filter changes and spark plugs but the surge still exists after running a treatment through one tank of gas. I suspect vacuum line examination and carb teardown/rebuild are in my future this winter.

    When you said the previous owner rebuilt the carbs I knew right then that was the problem. And you sir were good enough to find the problem. great job.

    You nailed it. Clifford Rice made a big deal about that hose in his video had to be attached or the bike would not run right. Great job figuring that out.

      Thank you Craig. I have an 1800 as well. Love that bike. And prefer it over the 1500. Well let me be clear. They are both great bikes but the 1800 is more of a sport touring and the 1500 is more touring. Plus the 1500 has a choke and I have been spoiled by the 1800. No choke and quicker. Be safe out there and thanks for viewing.

    I'm happy that you have found your engine problem. I know there is a bike out there for everyone. Gold Wings have never been my cup of tea. For me, they are a great running motorcycle when everything is working but I have never liked their complexities. Modern motorcycles in general have gotten pretty darn complex. I kind of miss the old days of the simple UJMs, the old English/German bikes and older Harleys. 😁

    • @mosmotorcyclejourney9067
      @mosmotorcyclejourney9067  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well I don't disagree with you at all sir. They have all gotten complex and I used to have a 1200 interstate. That bike was a 1986. And was so basic and easy to work on. I also had a 750 honda matic and that bike I could remove the carbs in 5 min. Hell it took me 2 and a half hours to get to the carb on the GL1500. Thanks for the comment and be safe out there.

    yeh man the Honda Goldwing is a great bike but the 1200 and 1500 are very hard to work on because of all the vacum lines and tight spaces to work with .

    On my 88 when I changed timing belts, I installed a trigger wheel to change that ignition timing. Boy did that make a difference when riding 2 up touring mode and load. It also cured that hesitation that the early 88's had when taking off, mine was a real PITA with the hesitation. Also ended up replacing the mufflers as they were rotten on the inside and blocked the baffles causing all kinds of performance issues. We rode with the Downriver Wings back then and some of the "know it all's" gave me shit because you could actually hear our wing. I miss that bike !! Just for shits, when I bought this bike I thought I would have the local Honda Dealer run the VIN, just in case there was any outstanding campaigns, and there was. Recall on the tip over sensor was never done. Part was in stock and I rode there, parts swapped, on the road we went. Fellers and Fellettes, Check that VIN.

      Yeah. The guy that rebuilt the carbs knew what he was doing however he must not have got all vac lines reinstalled properly. But she runs great now. Sounds like Pearl. Got to do plugs and oil change, and I been thinking on adding some pin strips to it. Check coolant and replace if it's needed then she will be close to being ready to ride. We'll you can ride it now but I like all fresh fluids and fresh plugs.

    The problem is sometimes people use wrong oil with Friction Modifiers that’s why is important you flush your wet clutch with seafoam and put a good 10w30 diesel oil to get the friction back on the clutch....

    Your bike is the same like mine 1988 GL1500, i will give a tip to you, put a Seafoam full can in the gas tank, 1 full can inside the engine mixed with engine oil to clean the clutch, ride for 100 miles, drain the oil when still hot, put a new 10w30 Diesel engine oil and filter.... Drive for 800 miles and you will see your bike working great again....

  • @Hi.Tech.Redneck

    The vacuum lines under the air cleaner box are a major pain to get back on . I have a set of verrrry long needle nose pliers from Harbor Freight that work excellent for reaching up there , under the box to put the hoses back on . Glad you got it running good !! Now , what kind of parts do you have on that parts bike ??? 🤔

    • @mosmotorcyclejourney9067
      @mosmotorcyclejourney9067  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You are so right about the pliers. I seen a video some time ago and the guy said you need the pliers to get the job done. So I purchased them a couple months back. Then couldn't find them till I realized I put them in the saddle bag of the cycle. 30 min later lmao. Thanks for watching Hi Tech. Be safe. 👍

    Mo that hose is a real bitch to get back on, I use 90 degree long needle nose pliers to pull up on that hose. There is a fitting inside air box that is right on top that hose I stick a dowel or drill bit down hole to guide that hose up. There are probable many GL 1500 with that hose disconnected because it's so hard to get on!

    great job Mo, glad you found the problem. This video has been informative if I ever get a 1500GL. I wonder if my X is having a leak. I changed the air box, after a mechanic broke a nut plate on it, and changed the air filter. Had a hard time getting the air box back together (fat hands and tight spaces). How did the sea foam treatment work? need to do same to mine since it has sat for a month with no attention. Again thanks for the info, be safe and keep the shiny side up brother.

    • @mosmotorcyclejourney9067
      @mosmotorcyclejourney9067  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      So a mechanic broke a nut plate on your air box. And that is the reason I don't have mechanics work on my bikes. Unless I could find one I trust to keep my bike. Haven't found one yet and I'm 50 yrs old.lol. I know what you mean by fat hands. That's why in some of my videos you see my son working with me. He has tiny hands lol. The seafoam does wonders. It has helped it alot. Runs very good after a treatment. I always pour a little in my tank when she is going to be sitting awhile. Thanks for watching and the comment 👍 be safe my friend. Also thanks for sending the pics.

    Can you please tell me what was the problem? I have same backfired only at idle and all was assembled and big hose was connected to filter housing still same nice idle with backfire to muffler

    • @mosmotorcyclejourney9067
      @mosmotorcyclejourney9067  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Is all the vac lines hooked up to your air filter box. Those can be a challenge to get back attached. Also are the carbs synced?? My problem was the lines to the air box and a vac line on the right side of the fairing was also not hooked up.

  • @haroldpetersen5584
    @haroldpetersen5584 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    There is a video from honda talks about how carbs on gl1500 work. That crankcase hose you covered is one bitch to get on there! I used long right angle needle nose to get mine on without tearing hole bike apart .

    • @mosmotorcyclejourney9067
      @mosmotorcyclejourney9067  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That probably explains why it wasn't on. But you are correct on how to get it back on. The problem I was having was after it warmed up it would hesitate and the rpm would drop. However it's running like it should now. Thanks for the comment 👍 be safe.
