    Doug, do you know if the mic/line in the Portico Channel (EQ/COMPRESSOR) aside, is the same as the Neve 511 Portico Pre's? Also, do you know if on the Portico Channel, if your bypassing the Compressor and EQ,Or just have nothing dialed in, is the pre stage still going through those stages(just like how the 1073 pre/EQ has a sound from the eq even when your not eqing)?As for the MBP, I have it and love it!

    you would get 2 of these over the master buss processor?

      @@chacra6studios79 can you please tell me what jacks to use on the back to link the compressors, I have two Channel strips. As you know we have two jacks under the word link on the back of the units. Thanks for your help!

    I have this unit but it doesn’t do the transformer drive thing on the pre input as like a 1073 . Agree it’s a great unit the red silk switch is subtle but the blue definitely impacts the signal more albeit in the low end compared to the higher frequency of the red.

    Great video just subed on like your view and videos.
    I was wondering for sound design and making the sound sound full and nice professional what could you recommend i use samples and record synths? I can buy one nice piece or 2 maybe wht would you recommned the NEVE master seems quite versitile and good to polish a sound and the neve portico 2 seem good but is having one worth it?

      REVERB! A LOT OF REVERB!!!! LOL

    • @DougJenkins
      @DougJenkins  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Also, for finishing yes it's nice, but to get that really big sound, you may be better off getting two killer line amps like a neve 1073 pair to really give it the proper amplication and verb!

      Doug Jenkins have you tried different 1073 clones wa273 warm audio vs heritage , Vintech 73i and Great river mp2nv and the bae is abit more pricey! Have your tried these can recommend thanks ?

    • @DougJenkins
      @DougJenkins  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mikewhiteman23 I have used the vintech, and also the Heritage. For the price difference the warm is top shelf. The vintech stuff is absolutely incredible! such a huge sound and beefy power supply, the heritage I have the least experience with, but I used the eq's and they had a more vintage vibe. I also have tried the Bae stuff, but this was pieces he actually racked from real Neve boards, my friend has a 1272 from sound city, and another friend has 2 original 1073s! Those are absolutely monsterous sounding. Really to answer your question, they all sound great but all have differences. But all sound awesome and do a great job. I do prefer my Neve 1073 500 series for the clean signal path and the power it can bring to a mix. The warm has a little more mojo, where the vintech sounds bigger!, and the Bae I just can't comment on nor the heritage because I don't have enough experience with them.. I would LOVE TO DO A SHOOTOUT OF ALL THESE! I am on the hunt

      Doug Jenkins when you talk about the Vintech it’s the i73? Great to know that the warm audio does deliver and you can get the eq’s also wa273!!! Will have to look into what you mention with the 1272! The 500 series you seem happy with also!!! Thanks a shoutout of the 1073 clones would be great!!!

    HI! Really great video! I am a beginner so may I ask a very stupid question? Why you need 3 portico , is that for stereo? :)

    • @DougJenkins
      @DougJenkins  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      well, the 2 are used for Eq, and de-essing, I love the sound of the mastering processor so much, I wanted to get the channels, which give me the ability to eq, and another stage of compression and gain stage. The Portico MBP is a different animal. More geared towards the bus

  • @barneyrubble8255
    @barneyrubble8255 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Why would you get the master bus instead of 2 of these if you had to pick? Does the master one sound just as good as two porticos on the master? So neve has stopped making these portico now? that sucks

    6:53 - "250 and down is not affected by the compressor". I think it's the other way round: the compressor will not be affected by 250 and down.

    • @DougJenkins
      @DougJenkins  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I guess what I meant was the 250 hz and down with the sidechain active will not be affected by the compression. allowing the bass to pass untreated by the compressor
