    I've been making music, producing, mixing, since 2001. I started ITB and I'd say within the last year or two finally came of the means to transform my studio to hybrid. This video, this talk really resonated with me. I found your channel because I just purchased the Neve Portico II MBP and was looking for reviews on it.
    I purchased the Silver Bullet and an SSL clone, SA-4000 last year. I was looking around for a third unit that had a quality and flexible processing options, the other two couldn't fulfill. Also, I had a Scarlett 18i6 for the longest but wasn't happy at all with the conversion quality after running tracks through the Silver Bullet and SSL on the 2-Bus. Made the jump last month to the Lynx Aurora (n).
    Listening/mixing now on Seinheiser HD650s and the difference between these open backs vs the closed-back Quiet Comfort QC25s was eye opening as well. Thank you again, for the truth in your video content.

    hi dough... heard you saying about if somebody would open or start a studio the Neve EQ you said you will get 1 or 2 of them? for a final stereo output mix? then linked straight to your neve MBP? am i correct saying that... of course Rupert neve mixers so expensive ... to save money ... what do you advise?

    I’m glad I saw this because I just pulled the trigger on a MBP and was going to get a pair of Neve 5033 EQs. In your setup with the M/S, are you saying one Portico II Channel’s EQ is enough for a stereo mix?

    • @DougJenkins
      @DougJenkins  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, You can actually use it as a mid side device. I ended up getting a second one to be able to use it as a stereo pair, but yes, you can use just the mid or side in a software like wavelab, it has a decoder/encoder where Left becomes Mid Right Becomes Side, then you can apply eq to which ever you choose! very cool way to process audio

    What do you use to manage bass reflections in your room?

    • @DougJenkins
      @DougJenkins  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I actually have some heavy duty bass traps 18 in all. each corner has at least a 18" roxul panel, with at least a 1' gap behind. Then the top is lighter traps from auralex, bass traps, really not effective in the low low stuff, but evens out 250 -90 nicely. The room dimension plays a big roll, it's 13'x15'x9 Got lucky on that, the room was built this way, and it has a extremely flat response as it is now.

    Why not the shelford over the portico?

    • @neve1064
      @neve1064 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m wondering the same. I think the Portico II channel is a swift army knife where the SHELFORD is more for “that” sound because that’s why they incorporated a diode bridge compressor in it. The Portico II and the MBP have BCA style compression. Those two types are different; diode bridged is a glue-ing kind of compression, I’m told.

    • @christopherpederson1021
      @christopherpederson1021 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Shelford is a bit more colored and adds an eq with a truly gooey, vintage vibe coming through it. Both channels have a really great EQ and the Portico is a bit more open and transparent. The Diode bridge comp in the Shelford is pretty versatile also. Both strips are amazing
