      I currently use a TC Electronics Finalizer I bought almost ten years ago from Sweetwater for mastering. Will this Neve unit replace it or augment it? Do they both do essentially the same thing? I'm quite sure the Neve does it better. Also, can you use this unit for tracking,or is it better left to use in the mastering process?

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@NURREDIN Hi there! This could be used in tandem with a Finalizer, or by itself. The Master Bus Processor features loads of analog tonal variation. A larger than life sounding compressor, and useful limiter are the main focus on this. Beyond that it can be very colorful when asked of it. The Silk Texture brings in rich harmonics that only analog components can give. Having a handy analog control of your width, and whether it is pre or post compression can give you some surprising results. I highly recommend it!

    Great review as always. Still on my wish list. I just wish that Neve would finally rethink the metering on the MBP because it really is the weakest and least useful aspect of this unit. I mean, most mastering engineers are rarely using anywhere near 5dB's of compression in real-world applications---so 20dBs is insane. They could easily make it 0.5dB steps up to 5dBs with a max of 10dBs (for mixing applications), or even use a 5dB/10dB button the way Foote Control Systems does on the P4. On the other hand, the metering on the Neve MBC appears to be much more sensible.

    Nice was lookin for this, its a mastering compressor to glue the mix and add color. Bring life to the mix and it seems to be doing the job. The SSL Fusion is not much cheaper but I like the SFE on this better.

    • @CipriPopescu
      @CipriPopescu 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Not in the same league at all. Fusion is made in China, and they cut some corners there, for keeping the price low. RND equals pristine quality components, and no compromise made during production. This translates into an expensive sound with creamy compression. Not saying that Fusion is bad at all, but you can emulate that sound using SSL Native plug-ins. On the other hand, you won’t get the Portico sound, using plug-ins. These RND products are just a last statement from Mr. Rupert Neve

    • @Mike-vr7mb
      @Mike-vr7mb 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@CipriPopescu Jeez you’d think people read! It is assembled in China in their controlled warehouse for cheaper labour. All items pass a vigorous inspection. If China doesn’t meet the standards they don’t get paid so guess what happens? It is assembled very well.
      NOTE* All parts and obviously designs are STILL made by SSL.
      Not every BS you read is true 🙄

    I'd appreciate it more if you'd pick a section of track say 1 min in duration, with a specific configuration play through, then repeat with five or six different configurations to get a full appreciation of the impact this unit has. Flick on and off every few seconds gives one very little to draw upon, and just as the brass comes in you cut it and move on with your demonstration to another section.

    Great sounding unit, but to make the best decisions over how it sounds you should’ve used a track with more consistent instrument lines, more consistent bass, keys, pads etc.
    The track used here was too empty to deliver a good understanding of what this unit can do.. 90 percent of this track is empty drums with a bass note coming every other measure, and the saxophone is all played on short notes with other brass coming in and out 20 percent of the track.
    Basically, all we’re hearing is drums and a Sax! Please select a better track next time, or even better a selection of different genres of music.

      It uses the sound topology of the 5088 console so even without the compressor you can sum your stems through it. A 5088 console will run 100k plus . You can even use the silk knob to add texture to the low end or the high end. Yes it’s 4000, but you have to hear it in person.
