    don't forget you can also tuck in frequencies ie tuck in the areas that have vocals to be deeper into the mix if you had to. great unit. I've been rocking mine for several years now. definitely a secret weapon!!!

    Bro just a little tip. Instead of linking channel A to channel B, disengage that ... if you set those two channels the same individually although a little more time-consuming you get a better wider image. Thank me later lol.

    • @barneyrubble8255

    Always loved the neve 5254 Bridge compressor, used to run all my vocals thru that when I was working in ATL. Wld love to get my hands on one of these tho, bet it's like $3k or more tho...
    I used to always use this other one on the same rack I think it was like a oldschool API channel strip or multi something, but it had like all the goods!! It's what they used on Outcast "wheels of steel" back in the day, which is such a great sounding song! Those vocals were 10/10!!!

    • @Ifelovv
      @Ifelovv 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just so you know it’s a VCA comp in this unit not a doide bridge. You won’t get the bridge color here. I’d say the compressor is the weakest part of this unit. The sfe and the silk is where the magic is

    Quick question I've notice that on a aux vocal send track the meter volume and peak indicater changes
    For example I will record in at about 10 db and rout 2 or more tracks to a aux send
    know in my mind I thought I would expect to see the aux send hitting at the same level 10 db
    but this is not always the case
    So I guess my question is at what level should a vocal bus volume indicater be at before processing with plugins such as dynamics

    Once you print it back to Pro Tools, are you using a limiter? or are you using the limiter on the MBP?

    • @bingybeats189
      @bingybeats189 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends on what your convertors are like. If your conversion is mastering grade you can limit OTB, if not, you can do some limiting with the Master bus processor(gentle) then use a software limiter or clipper to get the rest of the volume. Some people limit only ITB others limit exclusively with outboard.

  • @justinwainwright6307
    @justinwainwright6307 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Bro!, I am having the most difficult time routing my MBP to pro tools. I have the Apollo 8 and never figured it out. Unfortunately I had the MBP for about 5 months now and never used it yet. HMD please.

    • @SoundScienceMediaWorks
      @SoundScienceMediaWorks 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Probably the simplest to use it as an analog insert on your master channel.
      You hook up a pair of cables from your Apollo outs as a stereo pair, which will go to the channel 1-2 inputs on the portico.
      Then the outs of the portico go into the Apollo ins that match the number of the outs you used.
      Then you use an fx insert to send the signal out and in to your analog gear. Colt capperune has a video that explains it and shows it very simply for PRotools here on TH-cam called mixing with your analog gear.

    Is running every track in a song, one at a time, through this (with the compressor shut off) and printing them, the same as running it through a neve summing unit like the orbit or satellite?

    • @chrisalexander7819
      @chrisalexander7819 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No because the summing would still be done by your daw.

    • @SoundScienceMediaWorks
      @SoundScienceMediaWorks 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you pick the right mastering engineer you could get a whole song mastered through this or other amazing gear. Whatever they feel the record calls for .
      Usually working mastering engineers are charging 40-100$ per song.
      With 60-80$ being the guys with analog gear in this range.
      You can get into the hundreds per song but at those rates you are usually dealing with the top guys in the industry with full calendars
