    Hi! I have normal to dry skin. I use the CeraVe hydrating cleanser as well as their moisturising lotion. I also use The Ordinary niacinamide and lactic acid 10% serum. I’ve only been using the lactic acid serum for a few days, every evening as I do not experience any irritation. This routine did not treat my main skin concern, which is closed comedones. I have little bumps on my chin and on my cheeks. I’m desperate to find a product that will finally get rid of them. I keep on hearing about salicylic acid but I’m scared that it is too drying for my skin. I have tried the CeraVe blemish control cleanser but I didn’t like it very much. Also, I want a cleanser that I can use both in the morning and in the evening, which makes this cleanser not very suitable. Do you have any recommendations? Also thank you a lot I really enjoy watching your videos they’re helping me a lot!

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      For the most effective treatment of closed comedones, a combination of methods is typically recommended, such as using retinoids and benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid, along with regular gentle cleansing, and a professional extraction when needed (which can show immediate results).
      So, I wonder if you have ever considered using a retinoid like adapalene 0.1%? This would likely show the best results. Of course, you would need to hydrate your skin well as it is already on the dry side. However, it might be more effective than the salicylic acid cleanser or serum.

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Are you referring to their Acne Control Cleanser?
      The Acne Control Cleanser contains 2% of Salicylic Acid, whereas the Renewing SA Cleanser does not specifically indicate how much Salicylic Acid is in it, which makes me believe that it contains less SA.
      Personally, I prefer their Renewing SA Cleanser.

      The best advice I can give you is to get them extracted. Schedule an appointment with an esthetician and let her extract them for you. Inform her that you'd like to do it yourself with a tool next time and ask if she could show you how. That way, you'll be satisfied. :)

    I have two questions.
    1:which one is good for pigmentation and dark spots SA Renewing Cleanser or Blemish control Cleanser?
    2:Does Blemish Control Cleanser also be used on Normal skin type?

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Well, as I already pointed out, both options can work. However, with the Blemish Control Cleanser, you get a higher percentage of active ingredients, and you know exactly how much Salicylic Acid (SA) is included, which makes it a better choice from that perspective. I personally used to use the Blemish Control Cleanser but now use it irregularly, as the formulation can be a bit drying when used too often. And yes, the Blemish Control Cleanser can also be used on normal skin. I suggest using that one and alternating with a milder, hydrating foaming cleanser, such as Cetaphil Daily Facial Cleanser or Beauty of Joseon Green Plum Cleanser, to maintain a balanced skincare routine!

    Started using this for closed comedones on cheek and then their scars, started getting them one year postpartum. I am doing combinations of the ordinary 2% salicylic acid +hyaluronic acid+moisturizer or niacinamide+hyaluronic acid+moisturizer or Paula's salicylic exfoliant+moisturizer or Estee Lauder anr serum+moisturizer during different days of the week along with this cleanser. But no luck with my closed comedones. Since I am nursing, can't use retinoids. I just got the ordinary azelaic acid suspension. But don't know what might help. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you.

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial

      Well, honestly, the best thing you can do in that case is to ask your doctor. They can advise you on the ingredients you can and cannot use during nursing. Personally, I would not use any of these treatments. But essentially, what I want to say is, do not rely on any online advice.

    I've hormonal acne which in in the form of cystic acne + i have oily skin. Will this SA renewing cleanser work better or the oily skin cleanser from cervae work better?

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I would suggest looking more carefully at your diet, as the gut significantly influences our hormones. If there's a disconnection, you'll likely experience issues. By carefully adjusting your diet-such as avoiding added sugars and balancing it with more fish and cheese (ideally semi-aged, like Edam or Gouda)-I managed to get mine pretty well under control. Regarding the cleanser, I would opt for a milder version, something like the Beauty of Joseon Green Plum Cleanser, and focus on getting the rest under control through your diet. You can also follow my community tab here, where I publish my findings and share how I've been managing my acne by doing much less.

    Does cerave get rid of acanthosis nigricans

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  ปีที่แล้ว

      CeraVe is a skincare brand that offers a variety of moisturizers, cleansers, and other products to help maintain and improve skin health. However, it is not specifically designed to treat acanthosis nigricans.
      Acanthosis nigricans is a skin condition characterized by dark, velvety patches of skin, usually found in body folds and creases. It is often associated with insulin resistance, obesity, and hormonal imbalances. To effectively address acanthosis nigricans, it is essential to identify and treat the underlying cause.
      My advice is to visit a doctor so that they can examine your skin and provide suitable treatment.

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial

      With that approach, it won't do much. However, the easiest way to protect your skin is by using a good sunscreen with high SPF and PA ratings. Even better would be to avoid the sun or wear protective clothing, allowing it to fade naturally. Although, be aware that this process can take months or even years.

      @@DoubleBeezy Well, you need to protect the neck entirely with suitable clothing and/or apply sunscreen as suggested; otherwise, it won't do anything. Hi ,, thanks gor this video,,, i have oily acne prone sensitive skin,,, i am currently using neutrogena salicylic acid 2% facewash,,, and it works pretty well for me,,, but recently i saw videos in youtube saying prolonged salicylic acid causes skin thinning,,, is it true?

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Well, if you constantly use an acid, the skin can become thinner because you are continuously removing the dead skin cells. However, once you stop using the treatment cleanser, it bounces back to normal pretty quickly, usually within weeks.

      So, 2-3 times a week in the evening, you hop into the shower and use this cleanser to wash your face. Also, wash your hair with a mild baby shampoo. That's it. Take a look at their Acne Control/Blemish Control Cleanser. However, I recommend addressing the root cause of your concerns, such as your mental health, stress, lack of sleep, and/or your diet.

    can i use on my nuts??

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Oh, you're talking salicylic acid? 😂 A classic! Look, before we get too nuts here, let's clarify which kind we're talking about.
      Almonds - They're already smooth as silk, no salicylic needed! 🌰
      Cashews - I guess they could be even creamier? But maybe hold off on that acid peel. 🤔
      Pecans - These guys are already the stars of pies; let's not make them beauty gurus too. 🥧
      Walnuts - Brain-boosting and rugged, but I don't think they're looking for a new skincare routine. 🧠
      Hex Nuts - A dab of WD-40 works wonders, forget the salicylic! 🔩
      Brazil Nuts - So health-conscious but probably would pass on skincare treatments. 💪
      The... ahem... other nuts - 👀 Consult a healthcare provider for that one, buddy. Seriously, that skin's sensitive!
      So, before you go slathering that salicylic acid everywhere, maybe narrow down the 'nuts' in question. 😅

      Cuando te enjuagas la cara, aunque según lo hagas rápido, la llave la dejas corriendo todo el tiempo, en lugar de que en lo que te enjuagas con una mano con la otra le cierres. Y lo malo es que muchas lo hacen como tú diario y creen que no desperdician agua.
      O al menos deberías de poner un recipiente para reutilizar el agua después en lo que te enjuagas como lo haces en el video.

      @@paolamoreno9154 Hmm, eso puede ser el caso dependiendo del país del que seas. Usar un recipiente para reutilizar el agua podría ser útil en ciertos escenarios, pero definitivamente no para limpiar la cara. Además, realmente no desperdicio agua; es un circuito cerrado. El agua va por el desagüe y luego a la planta de tratamiento. En mi área, el proceso de tratamiento puede considerarse como un circuito o ciclo; el agua usada se recoge, se limpia y se recicla de nuevo en el sistema, lo que puede mitigar los impactos del consumo. Por lo tanto, no hay agua que se desperdicie. Sin embargo, esto podría no ser el caso en todos los países o áreas, donde las circunstancias pueden diferir. Aun así, recolectar aguas residuales y reutilizarlas definitivamente no es algo que recomendaría o haría yo mismo. En tales casos, puede propagar bacterias dañinas, causando varios problemas para la piel y, en casos más graves, afectando tu salud.

      Que bueno que en tu país sea así, en dónde yo estoy no. Y obviamente no me refiero a reutilizar el agua en uno mismo, ya sé que es perjudicial para la piel.
      Hay formas de reutilizarla para otras cosas.

      @@paolamoreno9154 Sí, estoy de acuerdo en que luego puedes usarlo para tu inodoro, por ejemplo. No estoy discutiendo en contra de esto, pero quiero señalar que probablemente por esta razón muchas personas no se preocupan tanto, porque no se desperdicia. Aunque desperdicia energía en el proceso... Sin embargo, ser frugal es la mejor opción, siempre y cuando no sea a costa de la salud.
