Pretty useless video. Requires a CHARGED joycon. What if its dead and holding button does nothing? Im sure most of us are here because we CANT CHARGE our joycons. So your method is pretty useless to most.

Thanks for these tips but weirdly enough I had this issue with 4 joy cons I had and I thought they were broken so I bought 4 new ones and it’s only been 2 days but 2 of the joy cons have already stopped working! I pressed the sync button on both of them and the green light didn’t appear, but I cleaned out the connection port on the switch and hopefully in the morning they work ^^
My issue is the switch itself just wont charge the joycons anymore. It will pair to them fine when they have been charged off another switch we have in the house. The other switch is an oled, when i put them in that console and go to the menu it shows it is charging them. But the old switch just shows the battery status and no charging symbol.

It worked perfectly, just don’t be afraid to open up your console and you may need to replace thermal paste afterward!
My Red Joycon had half Battery Life and it was on the charger before I went to sleep.
When I woke up, the Joycon was dead at ZERO Battery Life!
The poor old soul lol

Maybe another good tip is clean the console every now and then. That switch has so much dandruff on it 🤢
i don't know about you but mine always seem's pretty clean

@@Justin-oz7so my dock is dusty because I haven’t used my Nintendo Switch in 11 months so it made the bottom of my switch dusty too

This did not help. I cant do anything in the video bcos I cant even press the button on the joy con because the battery is dead and wolnt charge so when I hold the bottom to turn on it doesnt do a single thing
My right joy con can be used when clicked in the main body but it wont charge. Any problem like I have?
I have this exact issue! I’ve only had my switch for a year and it’s only had moderate use! Have you resolved this issue yet? I’ve booked a repair with Nintendo but wondered if you’d tried anything else

I finally got mine to start charging on my docked Switch, but only after using a bit of force when inserting the joycon.
Easily the worst console I've ever owned. Almost every design about it has a flaw, I can't believe this was made by a mega company.
The hardware durability is awful, joycon drift (how nice of them to price new ones at £60, exec scumbags). Then had to pay £130 when the chip that controls the charge to the console blew. Very expensive.

i have a problem where my joy con is on 1%, and only works when i use it in handheld. if i disconnect it, it just doesn't work. at this point i might as well have a switch lite

@@Assato still broken. this would be a much bigger problem if i actually used my switch in docked mode but thankfully i don't do that.

If your joycons don’t charge try going to system settings, scroll down, go to controllers and senors, then scroll down, then press update controllers. If dat don’t work I’m sorry bro 😔✊🏽

My Joycons connect but only charge for 2-6 seconds them refuse to charge, so they simply do not work anymore

That didn't help. My joycon was dead as a door nail. Opened it up. Battery was full 4volt. When I pressed on the big controller chip on the board it came alive. So I took some flux and caption tape to cover the connectors. Reflowed it on 360 degrees and fixed the problem

For anyone else that this didn't work for. I am having the same issue but I found possible a solution.
My left joycon isn't charging when plugged in. It shows its charging for about a second then stops. I pushed it in really slowly to the point where its only just connecting.... Now it says its charging. Im gonna leave it on, and I'll report back 👍
Just to clarify, the switch doesn't say its connected to the switch but it thinks it's charging from somewhere. In the pair controller screen it think it's not attached to the switch itself 🤔

@@Kookie4uu hey, try my solution above doing it slowly. After doing this a few times it seemed to sort itself out and start charging properly again now. I cleaned the connectors with some alcohol wipes too. Not sure if that made a difference but all seems to be OK now. Still using the same ones.
Yeah good stuff. Another thing is maybe the connector pins on the controller are bent or missing. You can look in where the pins are on the joy con's and see if it's dirty af.

Thank you, helped a lot! It wasn’t that it was dirty, I just forgot that the joycon had a connect button on the side and when you pressed it, it reminded me that it was there.
is there a way to check the remote is charging? should it have a lightining symbol next to it? update: Thanks for this video, I always refer back when my controller plays up.
Just simply go in the controller setting down in the menu and you could probably see if its charging or not
@@lychie211 thanks I fixed the issue. I just needed to restart the controller and it started charging again.

There is metal contact points that need to be cleaned on the bottom inside of the rails. I used isopropyl alcohol with q tips and it fixed the problem. It’s just bad design and will eventually get dirty again.

Dont forget swipe the contacts with a cotton on the stick it self to.
The connection port is at the bottom of the rail.
I got 2 pairs of joy cons but only one of the left one cannot be charged despite being detected...

Didn’t work for me, what worked for me was pulling with a little force out as I was gently sliding it in. And my issue was fixed. I’ve found most times that that’s the simplest fix. And what’s likely to make issues worse is attempting to clean it out and messing with the settings. If you slam it home you’re gonna have issues.

@@J4red498 The whole joycon was non-functional. I replaced a strip inside. Back in business.

@@esosaobayuwana5994 it's a ribbon/cable inside the joycon.
Edit: Okay it's not just a cable. It's a narrow circuit board that I replaced inside.
Bottom line it was a hardware issue. Power was not going where it needed to so the board was replaced and voila.

what do i do if the joycons won't light up
My right joycon was not charging at all, it was already dead on battery so nothing from this helped at all, so I was thinking that my console or my joycon battery must be broken. So I asked a friend which as well has switch to borrow me his right joycon to test the switch. The thing which helped me was simple and still I dont know how but after I put his joycon to my switch three times and could see that his one is charging it started to work, afterwards I put mine to the console it was doing nothing so I left it there and I was not playing with the switch for the rest of day and the next day I woke up and during the night the right joycon was somehow fully charged and it is now working as before the console is charging him again😅
