    Hi folks, for clarification: this is also compatible with Android phones; after all, it's a Bluetooth x-input controller. The plan is that the removable top attachment is going to be available in a number of sizes to accommodate a variety of phones, including Android phones.

      To be honest this is just a mod for an existing controller, and as a Designer I believe there's a better way to make it slim even using the same controller, this is not "revolutionary" since already exist, is just a mod, it's like take a bike and add a new chain and say it's revolutionary

If you sell this controller with some more compatibility say for android devices where we can apply an adhesive to attach a back cover for the phone then I'm pretty sure this will sit on top specially for emulation on mobile devices and it also reminds me of the psp go which is very nostalgic.

    I saw the video from that kid who's making this controller a few months ago. This type of controller has been my dream concept for mobile phones since the Xperia Play. @Jokerwolf666 That's not the issue. The charger has nothing to do with this controller. The issue is the camera placement. For iPhone, it's kinda easy to make 3 or 4 different backplates to fit in. But on android it's wild how many different approaches there are. Anyway, in is web he said he's looking into it. So there's hope for a universal fit

    The formfactor is really cool, but I think the main kicker is the fact that it's more or less specific to a particular handset. If you own that handset then great, but otherwise you're left out.
    I imagine it's probably why existing companies haven't tried it, because it either severely limits your target audience (on something already pretty niche), or greatly increases your manufacturing costs to produce different variations. The current telescoping ones might be cumbersome by comparison, but are generally one size fits all.

    •  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +15

      yeah this idea works better for iphones because they all are physically the same but android users are probably the ones that consume this type of idea more

    • @short_yeti2058
      @short_yeti2058 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      If the phone mount stays a detachable piece I can see manufacturing only that part in different sizes.
      Or if it stays one piece a more generic tip mount with a form fitting insert.
      I could also see it going phone agnostic and being flat with the magnets totally. Two nubs on the bottom corners to help keep it in place and be done.

    • @frosted_cupkate
      @frosted_cupkate 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@short_yeti2058 If it's flat, phones' camera bezels will collide with it, so I think it needs something adjustable/swappable to accommodate differing bezels. Otherwise you're going to have to add a case to your phone to level it off, which then adds to the weight/thickness of your phone 24/7.
      As for corner nubs, I'm not 100% sure how you'd mean them to be implemented, but there's a large variety in handset widths too, which means that any corners would need to be adjustable.

    • @frosted_cupkate
      @frosted_cupkate 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      If it's completely flat, phone bezels will collide with it, so I think it does need something adjustable/swappable to accomodate different bezels.

      Yeah, that’s what I thought as well. Even for iPhones, right now the latest iPhone line, the iPhone 16, has 4 different models going for it, all with different dimensions. Even if they only have to manufacture different top cases, that’s still a lot of variants to consider. And that’s not yet counting the upcoming iPhone SE4 next year.
      Another thing about telescopic controllers is that, depending on the controller build, it can be made to fit with an iPad as well.

    i think what needs to be focused on the design is that it should be pocketable, ergonomic, and better if it has a powerbank as thats what makes it better for travel. the design is not that bad as i have an 8bitdo sne30 pro with a clip and i find it harder to hold. with a powerbank it will balance the weight and would be better if it has a retractable clip rather a sliding feature. Something similar to the old samsung gamepad controller's retractable clip but with rectangular design with grip and with a powerbank build in

      great in theory, but in practice any thinner may further limit/compromise the joysticks (like the Retroid Pocket flip) and make it harder to grip. i'm not saying i don't agree just that i don't know how feasable it is, Russ already noted its top heavy which will only become more of an issue the thinner/lighter/harder to grip it is.

    Awesome stuff! I saw the developer's original video a couple of months back and was honestly impressed. The one thing is that I don't really get the point of the sliding feature...it adds clearance issues and thickness with no real benefits because the point of using magsafe is easy detachment and stowaway. I think a slim version that isn't limited in comfort by a sliding mechanism might be better.

    One thing that I think deserves some praise is the ergonomics; More specifically, how the buttons and sticks are laid out on the controller relative to each other.
    Each stick is placed diagonally down from the respective D-Pad and Face Buttons, and is even contained within the same shallow indent that said D-Pad and Face Buttons are.
    I know this might not *seem* like a big deal at first, but to me it’ll make a huge difference, cuz it’ll make reaching all of the controls easier and more intuitive.
    Other controllers (but especially those that emulate the Switch Joycon style of controllers) like to place all of their controls directly above one another, which (on top of making unwanted inputs more likely to occur) makes actually reaching those controls with your thumb more difficult, and may lead to cramped hands.

    the original prototype of the Razer Junglecat was like this too. It was a one piece device that acted as a case and controller. I think the reason it got chaned for the version we actually in thr end was due to it only being compatible with that specific iPhone one the case was made.
    Although the version we got in the end did also run into a similar issue it has a similar issue the 3D printers have mitigated that somewhat.
    The one ffom the video being magsafe feels like a much elegant solution to the problem as long as the case used is fairly flat on the back.
