    Dylan and I rode our boats for the first time.
    My Dad took his mini boat back to San Diego to finish it, so he wasn't around for this maiden voyage. He joined us for the stability test and the boat party weekend, so be sure to check out those videos.

    • @joshpit2003
      @joshpit2003  6 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      A valid concern. But it only took me a while because it was the first time I had gotten into it. For anyone curious about stability, or the ability to exit it in the event of a flip... they can go watch the stability testing video: th-cam.com/video/Jm-T6I7hgg8/w-d-xo.html

      dont joke about kayaks i know people who have nearly died when their kayak rolled, it is largely safe, but you can get into some nasty situations.

    • @Torrque
      @Torrque 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Getting into a tight space on the unstable element of water while trying NOT to flip (and in order to remain dry) is a more pronounced finesse than thrashing and lunging out into water once overturned and vying for your life. Never tried it, huh? Be surprised what the risk to your life might see you manage.

    • @joshpit2003
      @joshpit2003  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. I was pleasantly surprised with the speed and the stability of the boats.
      I knew they would go ~4mph, but I didn't really know how fast that would feel on the water. Turns out 4mph is about kayaking speeds. So I've basically got a luxury sit-inside Kayak that is more stable than a kayak and doesn't require paddling.

    Great work there, I think it has great potential :). I have a couple of questions. Could it handle wake from other vessels and if it were to tip over, is it easy to get out of? However, that said, I can see that this is no real difference from a kayak in both instances.

    • @joshpit2003
      @joshpit2003  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, it's pretty much a glorified kayak in that sense. Does well in a wake, in the chop, and you fall right out when the boat flips. It's trickier to get back into than a kayak. And oddly enough the trick to getting back in after a flip is to flood it with water in order to lower it. Then flip on a bilge pump after you get in (the now bath-tub) boat.
      I'd suggest you go take a look at the Stability Test video (shows my dad getting in one after flipping) and then the Sea Trials 2 video (shows my friend and I being stupid and running through heavy chop).

  • @MrWightHD
    @MrWightHD 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    It needs a little bit more ballast to plant the hull but other it's a classic and one for creek exploration

    • @joshpit2003
      @joshpit2003  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      In boats this small your own weight is the majority of the ballast. So it's absolutely critical that you plant it in the seat (to get the ballast low) if you want any stability. That makes getting into the boat the hardest part. And that's also why I put a rider weight limit of 200#. The boat can take a lot more than that, but people larger than 200# have a disproportional amount of weight up-high.

    This is really cool! Lots of people talking about flipping upside down, but my question is only related to that: what about the fairly exposed battery in this case? Isn't that a concern?

    • @joshpit2003
      @joshpit2003  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's more stable than a Kayak, but if you do manage to flip it the battery is not a concern. See the Stability Testing video: th-cam.com/video/Jm-T6I7hgg8/w-d-xo.html My Dad flipped his and drove it around for ~15 minutes basically under-water with no noticeable damage. Just rinsed the whole boat out with fresh-water at the end of the day.

      Lead is still the best bang-for-buck out there when it comes to capacity. And in a boating application, it doubles as ballast so it's a win-win.

    You could put on outriggers. You could put on some kind of quick release. That would give it way more stability.

    Install out-riggers for good stability.
    Those little boats are faster than I thought they would be.
    Namaste.
