Well done mate, in one of my lives I was a sailing instructor and see you are on the right track with learning. I will not be critical however to help you I will on occasion offer suggestions. 1) you have winches on the boat, they are designed to take all the load off your body (which has just been repaired.) put at least one turn on the winch (clockwise) before you start to haul. If a sudden gust takes the line out of your hands it can be had getting it back with burns on your hands. 2) do learn your knots and how to tie off properly to a cleat. not just is it neat but if it is done the same way all the time, even on a dark stormy night you can undo it. 3) try not to sail with fenders hanging. You can lose them and it it poor etiquette. You have chosen a bullet proof boat you should be very happy with.
Very respectful way of telling a new sailor some very common norms. (I’m 22 and bought a boat on a whim, went sailing and made a fool of myself by leaving the fenders out, had guys on other boats screaming at me to bring them in lol)
@@MattO109 ...I wouldn’t worry to much mate, everyone has to start somewhere , mistakes will happen as it does with learning anything , happy sailing . 👍

In The Netherlands we call people with their fenders hanging out Germans, since they rent a lot of rentals on our lakes and are too afraid that they will bump into anything.
I’d love to see a mini series on restoring or fixing up small things in the boat as you get it the way you want it! I love seeing where you’d store all your things on trips and how you’d organise the interior!

Beautiful boat. I can so relate to this : Trying to convince the family that the boat is a good idea; dreaming about the adventures you will have; working out whether the family will actually come along; being nervous about having such a large boat to sail. Best of luck!
Great boat. I'm very excited for you as I've had a similar one in the past. One thing that may help you when getting underway by sail is to always raise the rearmost sail first. This is so that the boat turns into the wind and makes getting the headsail out and set up much easier. Also practice "heaving to" in nice conditions like that so that it becomes second nature when you really need it. Wishing you fair winds always.
Congratulations Rod,I see the happiness this sailboat is bringing to you. I look forward to seeing you and your family on many journeys with this awesome new boat. Stay safe out there and have a blessed day. Aloha from Kansas.
I’m so happy for you. You are doing it the right way. Start small (but not to small) to learn. Mistakes on boats this size are very recoverable from. Keep up your enthusiasm! Love your experience every time you go out.

absolutely nothing wrong with an older boat, 3 years ago i bought a fishing boat and it is a 1970's and the motor for it is a 25hp 2 stroke from the 80's and i love it. you do you and live your dream.
Your port quarter birth shows a thin lines of light showing through areas of your deck. If it were my boat, I would lay up some fiber glass to prevent future leaks or weak seams. Love this charming little starter sailor. Great starter for you and the family. Great intro. Love your honest humility.
Beautiful! I also have an international folkboat here in Sweden. There are thousands here. Never seen one with a popup roof, must be an Australian invention! Safe, reliable boats that are fun and easy to sail, sporty when there’s a breeze but not scary. Make sure to check the seacocks that let water escape from the cockpit, the valves need to be in good order and you need to be able to reach them if a tube breaks. And make sure you can tension the backstay enough to bend the mast (people recommend 16/1) and have good systems for the outhaul and cunningham. Then you don’t really need to reef the main below 20 knots, you just flatten the main as much as you can by pulling everything when the wind comes up and adjust the main car to leeward if needed. And adjust the headsail cars backwards to open the top of the headsail to let the wind escape. Have fun!
It's a real looker, congratulations on it! It's rare to see a TH-camr that dives, fishes, powerboats, kayak fishes, survives, cooks, AND sails. You're living the dream man! Cheers from Vancouver Island
Hey Rod welcome to the sailing life ⛵. Its so obvious how excited you are seeing the possibilities that open up to you with Misty and you are already looking to improve its capabilities. Be warned it is very addictive and you are always spending money. We came to the same decision a few years back too. I have been in tinnies all my life and in the end we had a big beautiful Formosa plate boat and then we sold it for a sail boat, a locally made 1985 Mangrove Jack 28 and have never looked back. With a yacht, when everyone else is heading home, we are having a shower, putting on the kettle or having a cold beer before dinner. We are Scarborough based and not super experienced sailors either so if you ever would like a second boat to travel with on the long ones up the coast message us. Have a look at the Australian Coral Sea reefs 200nm-ish NE of Fraser. Those places are amazing and VERY fishy. Happy days 🤘

A nice little boat you have there, it could take you pretty much anywhere. Only suggestion for you is to maybe focus a little more on things that don't need electrics, such as a good steering compass, somewhere to read charts with red lights for night use. I'd also get the radio aerial up the top of the mast, it will give far greater range. Get some strong clips to hold the lifting roof down for when it gets rough maybe? Hope you have some good adventures.

(And please stow your fenders when you leave the dock or people will start referring to you as the floating hot dog stand 😂)
Reminds me of when I bought my first sailboats, a Cal 25, then less then a month after a very very nice oDay 22. Had that 22 for 3 years then bought a Hunter 33 so HUGE step up in size. I still have my Hunter 33, nice boat but I can tell you bigger is not always better. When you go into the bigger yachts, more work, maintenance, and expenses. Then never, a repeat NEVER let your boat sit too long without doing washing and general maintenance. I recommend every 2 weeks to keep it nice. Simple problems quickly become big problems if not fixed. Looks like you got a nice boat there and a 26 is big enough for most people. Id rather have a very nice well maintained 26 then for example, a neglected 41. So keep it and have fun. That outboard is great, light weight and you can take it out with ease to work on it, unlike an inboard.
Congrats Rod! Fun to see your excitement if daydreaming future trips with Misty. She’ll make a fine mothership. Hope you and the family have many good trips on her. Work out a spot for the yak on her also. Frasier awaits!
That was a very good intro & very helpful for us oldies who wanna buy a boat & cross some ocean.I'm a bit of a dare devil still at 73 & only sailed dingies, rowed boats & canoed rivers
Great work Rod a very nice old vessel indeed it actually looks similar to a " Hood " which is a sailing boat from around the same era , I would recommend a bigger motor a 6 hp is a bit too small for a 26 foot vessel . 6 hp might be okay in a harbour or lake but when out in the ocean or on a river you can have currents anything up to 7 or 8 knots and throw in some big waves you can find yourself in trouble very fast , I have been there and done it before I learnt some very valuable lessons lol . ✌️
I used to be very good sailing in optimists when I was in my early adolescence, but I sunk in the most important regatta and that caused a kind of trauma. ( Edit) as A owner of a Japanese superbike, I must say their 4 strokes are tremendously reliable.
Congrats mate! We can see how genuinely stoked you are, good luck on your journey, it's the most rewarding lifestyle and opens up so many options for you. Will have to meet up on the water one day! Enjoy!
Might want to fix the title to "Bought". Other than that, so exciting!!! Congrats on bringing Misty into your life!!
😅
That's hilarious. My brain auto corrected it and I didn't know what you were talking about until I looked at it again.
What did it used to say?

Awesome. She is going to add a totally new dimension to your fishing and camping trips and then who knows where to. She looks like a little beauty. Looking forward to all the adventures. Nice one; well done mate.
How much did you pay
In the SpongeBob narrator voice: "two years later..." 😮
Mate! Super excited about your new purchase! Always eyed them off, but end up buying power boats! I’m keen to learn with you! Crank out some how too’s!! Good luck
I spent 4 years living on my Columbia 22" SLOOP with liveaboard permit and insurance and spent a good part of my time exploring Channel Islands off California Coast. Best 4 years of my life.
My first boat was a c&c 30mk1, build in 74. I can remember the first anxiety during sailing under a gale and also docking. First few times were very close quarters and no room for error. Misty has some lovely lines, the older boats always look better in my opinion!
Keep up the misty videos Rod. Really nice little boat that will give you so much pleasure to restore and enjoy.
Your Video brought back so many memories. I went through everything you are going through now. Loved sailing and loved sleeping over in the boat. It was a real adventure. Good luck with your new to you boat. It looks fantastic.
I've been dreaming of a boat for the last two years! Mate, thanks for providing me with all the new owner eyes before I buy!!
Awesome! Misty is lovely and I am sure you will have awesome times with her.
So cool, from almost getting your toes bit off on a kayak to owning a gorgeous sail boat. Excited to see all the adventures it holds.
Congratulations on your boat. Sailed for many years and always loved it. A home away from home.
Happy for you, you are living the dream and fullfiilling other peoples dreams as well especially mine, i look forward to your adventures. Great times!!
Wow, what a nice suprise! She is a beauty Rod. Happy Sailing....looking forward to watching.
The put put of the engine gives me the Willie’s
What an awesome sailboat. Reminds me of the boat my fathers best friend and avid fisherman Howard, who is now 84, boat called Daphnie. He had it moored in the private mooring spaces at Louisa Road in Birchgrove. Yr boat so like it, lovely.
Beautiful. I envy you. Bought a boat, fixed her up and sailed away to Hawaii. My wife was seasick the entire trip... Now I'm back on the hard. All the luck to you.
Good for you. You seem like an alright bloke. I hope your everything goes well for you and your family and your boat.
Really excited to see you adventures. Thanks for the content mate
Enjoy every moment of this new adventure. Nothing can beat the hiss of water off the transom.
Total respect to you.. This is exactly how ive learned in my boat.. Just went the hell out there and did it!
There is nothing that stands in the way of the will. With a start like this you get far.
Well done to you!
Yes rod love it, funny how he mentioned sail boats in last vid 🤭 your brill rod can't wait for this content 👌🏻
Nice boat man, she's a gem and a keeper. I wouldn't part from her for any reason.
I'm getting some boa envy too after watching this. That'll be great for big trips and safely taking the family out.
Rock On Man!!! Welcome to the club. I just got myself a 20 footer with a gutted cabin that I get to rebuild, and I am getting a lot of interior ideas from your boat.
So stoked for you Rod. I’m from a sailing background. This is a great little start to sailing and will do you well, and I hope will serve you well for your channel. Go big bro, the numbers will follow.
Terrific random video to come across today. Fantastic feel good video - your enthusiasm is terrific and your joy of the new toy really comes across.
I have never been underway on a sailboat but have always loved them. It's the RV of the sea.
Congrats 400K! Looking forward to more adventures with you and your Ohana ! Cheers and Kampai for your continued success!
