  • 5000 miles on my Nitto Ridge Grapplers 34x11.50 tires on my 2019 RAM 2500 Cummins. I've towed my 13,000 lb toy hauler multiple times to Moab at this point, done some high speed off-road washboard type stuff, and driven a bunch through the mountains and desert unloaded. And...at the end our first snowfall for a preview as to how these will perform in the snow.
    How do they compare to Goodyear DuraTrac and BFG AT ?
    Loving them: on road, off road, dry conditions, towing
    NOT loving them: rain, snow

    You absolutely nailed this review! I’m running mine on a 3500 long bed. Same story with wet conditions here in the PNW. Other than that, nothing comparable to this tires when it comes to how quiet they are on dry roads.

      I don't have any issues in the rain with my 35x12.50 18 nitro ridge grapples. Unless I'm on the while lines for the crosswalk and it being over painted where u would slip walking on it in the rain. That's the only time mine slip and I live in bremerton washington. It literally rains here everyday

      @@73powerstroke56 It's been weird for me, there are some times the wet feels almost like ice with these tires, and other times it's fine. Perhaps it's oil on the roads? What I mentioned in the video spinning my tires with my 13k trailer attached and 1000+ lbs of tongue weight is something I've never experienced before. Made me wonder what might happen in an emergency braking situation...don't want to find out.

      @@BrianLampright913 yeah I don't know. Maybe it is the oil seeping from the roads. All I know is as of right now I havent had that issue slipping in rain. Unless of course I purposely make it happen. But either way be careful regardless of the tires ur running.

    I live in the Sierras and get “Sierra cement” in Nov and Dec months before it starts getting cold in Jan - basically the slushy stuff around freezing temps. I heard good things about these Ridge Grapplers so I put them on my 2017 F-250 powerstroke, and well, like you said all that torque on a hybrid tire is not good. I am now running Falken Wildpeak AT3W and they are much better on wet roads and still very good in snow.
    Thank you for the honest review.

      This is one of the reasons I'm tempted to run a smaller 33" dedicated winter tire like a Blizzak or Duratrac or something with a lot of siping in it that is designed for winter with the 3PM winter rating. And then only run Nitto Ridge Grapplers in 37" (larger than my current 34") for the summer when we are doing off-roading and stuff. I don't need a 37" tire in the winter, in the long run this would save me money because 37" tires are crazy expensive so why run them all winter long and put more miles on them? And a smaller (more narrow) tire is better for snow/ice conditions.

I only ever need to shift into 4hi if I get stuck which has only happened a couple times from spinning tires over sugar sand.*

    I don’t know what it is, but Ram owners complain about Ridge Grapplers. I have 10k on my F-150 with 275 70R 18 . I do a lot of off road. BUT Amy truck only weighs 4500 pounds. That must be the difference. The weight you’re towing? My tires still look brand new. Also do you have LT tires? If you don’t that’s the problem!

      They are GREAT in those conditions. I love the way these ride on the highway and pulling my toy hauler trailer. They have a really nice feel to them. I'm not sure how long they are going to last on my diesel truck, at least 30k miles, possibly around 40k. I'm over 12k miles right now and they are still looking pretty good.

    Spot on review! I have an '18 Cummins with the Ridge grapplers in 35x12.50x18 and live on the other side of Snowbasin from you. These tires are no bueno in snow on my truck. Wet roads can get dicey if there's even a chance for the wheel to come loose in a turn, but they ride great and they're quiet... and they look good. I don't plan on buying these again and may get a separate winter set to be on the safe side... and maybe in a smaller size to boost winter mpg. Safe travels!

      @@sparkuzg No, I'm running the tires on Method Wheels, 18x9 +18 offset. I'm also running a Thuren 2" leveling coil up front. I ran the tires and wheels for about a week before I leveled it, clears just fine with +18 degree offset.

    • @BrianLampright913
      @BrianLampright913  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      My wheels are stock with 34x11.50. I would have put 35x12.50 on the stock wheels but Discount Tire refused to mount them on the stock wheels because they were 1/2" too narrow for the spec on the tire. I argued with them but they would only go by the spec so I ended up with these 295/70R18. I'll stick with this size for a winter tire, but in the spring my summer tires are moving up to 37" and a set of method 18x9 +18 wheels which is the ticket on the RAM. CJC Offroad is a great resource for you.

      @@coldfuzion14 The outside of the tread is pretty much flush with the flares, but the blocks on the sidewall do extend out a little. You snow review. Is not canter to the average casual driver if you are seriously running a tire pressure of 62 in front and 55 in the rear on your setup. As they really should not be that high unless you are towing a very heavy load. Max tire pressure according to Nitto on 35x12.5 which is the most commonly ordered tires in my area and that is 50 PSI but can go as high as 80 only if you are hauling a heavy load. So common tire pressure would be between 35 and 40 for snow driving on these tires. Any firmer then that for 90 percent of drivers and the there's little room for flex and much less traction, the same applies for tires inflated too low. To top it off you admit you have no weight in the back of your truck which on top of over inflated tires seriously damages a personal review on these tires.
    I run mine at 40PSI on snow. I also either have 4 or 5 90LB sandbags in the back or a small load of firewood which helps keep the back end on the road. These tires are excellent over the original stock tires on my 2020 Ram and cut through snow with very little if no loss in traction in 2 wheel drive. I've driven in as much as 6 inches of snow in 4 wheel drive and even put the truck in a small ditch on the side of a gravel road intentionally ( dont do this unless you have a wench!) that it fairly easily dug its way out of. Now I wont say these are the best for Winter driving but they do pretty well. If you live in places that see a boatload of snow and you need the absolute best snow rated tires i would say go with Duratrac or the K02

  • @TheRealChetManley

    Interesting that the back is wearing faster. I have never seen that in a tire, usually the front wears faster. Will watch your 15k update next, thanks!

    • @BrianLampright913
      @BrianLampright913  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      most likely from the heaving towing and the power of a modern diesel, that's a lot of force going through the rear tires. I'm at 23k miles now and the noise has ruined these tires for me, they have gotten really loud despite rotating them every 5k. Also they are more than 2/3 worn out, by 30k they will be slicks. I won't be buying them again.

  • @Icutmetal
    @Icutmetal 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    That’s a great looking truck 👍
    Good feedback on the tires, too. I see lots of positive snow reviews on them, but likely from people who either have never tried anything better or are unable to form an objective opinion. I bet they’d do good in deeper snow, but not on the road where it really matters. Tough compound and lack of sipes.

    • @BrianLampright913
      @BrianLampright913  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Icutmetal lack of sipes is definitely a problem for snow and why I had my doubts when I purchased them. The more I think about it what I may do next year is run dedicated winter Blizzak tires on my OEM wheels and for summer run a 37” Nitto Ridge Grapplers.

      @BrianLampright913  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I need to post another rather embarrassing review that I still cannot believe where I literally was stuck in 1" of snow in 2wd...what? I know. BUT, despite that it's been a monster of a winter here in Utah and I would give them an AVERAGE snow rating, they are not great but they are not terrible...just average. It's the really slippery stuff they struggle in, but in 4wd I have no problems. And I also added about 300lbs in the bed to help in 2wd.

    • @BrianLampright913

But some people also say they are great...personally I think those people have never owned a great snow tire to know the difference. If snow performance is important I’d look at BFG, Duratrac, Wildpeak, Toyo AT3, or any other tire with the 3MPS rating, these just don’t have enough siping to be a great snow tire. • @stgraves260
      @stgraves260 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BrianLampright913 I new what I said was going to come out wrong. Sorry. I know E rated tires are for heavy loads, but the problem with the Ridge Grappler and other hybrid tires are the rubber compound. They are using the rubber compound from light duty trucks so the they can keep the ride quality up in a hybrid tire. I strongly believe that is where you are getting your sway from that you was talking about. I’m glad you like your tires. The truck looks awesome. On your next set of tires, try a harder compound rubber to help you eliminate that sway. Don’t want you to loose your trailer. You can do some research and you will see what I’m talking about.
