Y'all have much larger issues, but when you get to it, Uniclutch has multiplate clutch options for you. I haven't seen any youtube installs and I'm really curious if they deliver. Excellent price point and you can pick them up at Napa.
You can see that coolant channel is where the fire ring blew into when the HG failed, a huge spike in combustion pressure suddenly being forced into that 1 coolant passage.
But short Ben also does have a shit box or two and Asian Ben’s evo is nice and he had the FD for a while. So it’s like they each have their thing but dabble in the others haha
Every so often my 17 year old Mazda 3 does something completely out of the blue, like when the thermostat crapped out on a 2 hour drive in 100F heat. Luckily the motor didn't explode (although there weren't any warnings for overheating except when the A/C was auto shut off, but I didn't know that at the time.) I remember getting to my destination and hearing the coolant boiling in the lines. While the car was at the shop, I panicked and bought a brand new 2022 WRX Limited off of the showroom floor... 2 months ago the replacement (5 years old) alternator on the Mazda decided it didn't want to work properly anymore, so I had to spend about triple what the car is worth in scrap to get everything back up to par (drive belts and other junk down there). I guess I'm not gonna let this car go out quietly either 😂
I bent the intake valves on my first dsm changing the timming belt. This car taught me lots of invaluable lessons. I pay 0 dollars to a mechanic to work on my cars. Lesson learned, dsm😂

You can absolutely get one, just don’t go over 350-400hp on these old cars. They are very happy at that range, but you start pushing things really far when you start going crazy. I had a buddy who had his 4g63 at 400hp for years with no issues
True DSM owner, pop the hood, Timing belt is still there. As a former owner of many DSMs yep that's the first check to see if you're about to do another engine rebuild and buy new heads.
Some jb weld, some spray foam, some flex seal… she’ll be all good. 😜 “On today’s episode of Just Rolled In - customer states previous mechanic did some engine work, but now the car is leaking coolant. Advised the customer that he needs a full engine rebuild. Customer declined repairs and pushed the car home.”

welcome to owning a DSM, I have had my 95 eclipse for 8 years now and its been on jackstands for 6 years, 3 engines, and 2 transmissions later. and as of today its still on stands.
Its easier to say than actually doing that 😂 it will need k engine and transmission, 4wd had to go, ecu, wiring, modifieing bay and subfram and oil pan, and its actualy way taller engine! AND it need lots of money! Remember they were doing this on budget!
It's the DSM curse, K-swap won't save it. Anything you put into a DSM becomes unreliable. The only way is to go rotary and hope that two negatives make a positive.
As an FTO owner who's also spent way too much to make it faster than it was ever designed to be, that's just asking for more of the same trouble 😂 Which is precisely why mine makes just over 200hp which is actually plenty for a streetcar.
There's a reason why people don't build these too often. I always loved the body styling but the notorious head and head gasket issues were issues in the 90s too Man Im old LOL

That car is like that old fella that been living way too long and wanted just to die already, but instead some random angel give him immortality and he absolutely hate it because he fed up with life lmao
i have a high boost 420 powered 1st gen neon. its maybe the most powerful one in the world still running. 707whp at 32 psi at 8600 rpm. i run around at 36psi or higher on the street. all i can say is i run double worm clamps on every boost coupler, i have a custom manifold, the biggest arps i can run, a mls headgasket, and i still lift the head sometimes. next time i am going to be running a solid steel gasket with fire ring inserts. look into them. its what all the b58 guys run. a saab dude named rochester house of boost may be your cheapest and easiest option as far as getting one made. look into it.
The chapter at 7:01 is hilarious. I was thinking the car is a monster and just needs some dialing. Then as soon as you said it blew a cloud of coolant mid pull, I knew it was bad news. Bummer folks! That's not a quick fix.
Man, I could've told you that was gonna fail seeing as it had a Felpro headgasket. Looks like it at least has ARP 2000 studs. (Hopefully better!) If you want reliability, you ONLY run OEM MLS headgaskets and ARP L19 or better headstuds. The DSM "curse" is nothing more than cheaply made aftermarket parts and lack of maintenance. If you know the right combination of parts to buy and you don't cheap out, you can build a really reliable moderately powerful (600whp or lower) 4G63. Doing 35psi pulls with a crappy headgasket will get ya every time though. Even the best headstuds won't save you from that.
Weight , what , how 🤔 😳 😅.. i can successfully say i have not done that one .. yet (knocks on wood).. i have lifted my head and had to go 20 ftlb over torque spec to solve that on head studs and a cometic mls with NO copper sprey as the gasket has a special coating on it ... but for your case brotha .. ya might want to look into getting the head cut for fire rings next go round .. that might help and do a slight over torque on the head studs .. and get some serious valve cover velntalation going on , cuz crank case pressure is a big killer to the mitsubishi engines from what i have gathered .. i run 34psi on a 4849g (g25-550) on my car and daily it but forged everything in bottom end and dropped comp to 8.5-1 with some perdy supertech pistons , when i had my eclipse i was looking into doing the 4g64 2.4l bottom end and the 4g63 dual cam head to mutt together and see what it would do as i hear the 2.4 bottom is built a lil stoughter as for the torque differance from 2.0 to 2.4 but idk how true that is .. good to look into tho , one day i will get another eclipse myself bro so i feel your struggles 😅... anyways peace and love guys , keep it rad , stay safe , and build on .. l8r peepz

DSMs are absolutely not bad cars at all, this is normal for all cars if you start pushing 500hp. Mostly Stock DSMs are perfectly reliable and fun cars
