I own a Golf R for about a month or so. Previosly, i had a GTI 2024 with 6 speed manuel transmission. I put the Unitronic stage 1 in it an, to be honnset, it was a Rocket. The handling in the curves was awsome. Thanks to his low weight configuration. I was in fact equal to a M240 383HP. STUNNING! I look foward to install the stage 1 plus in the Golf R this spring. Thanks for you vidéo ! It was nice to see all the R models on the same stage!!
I swear, when I hit some undulations while cornering hard in my '24 R, it feels like it digs in harder. I know I'm not getting near its limits, and really need to get some instruction and some HPDE days. As opposed to my mk6 GLi, which while still pretty capable with summer tires, is just not on the same level at all as the R. '24 R, White, 6sp, bone stock, 1100 miles on the odometer.

Must be low gas quality? The HGP turbo in the MK6 (around 650hp) walks a Lambo Gallardo so this one with 450 hp should still be a lot faster vs standard Golf R's. The actual HGP Mk7 R is a monster and has 740hp from 3.6 Passat CC and R36 and does 0-200kmh in below 8 sec and 0-300 in under 20sec. And there is a 2.0TSi upgrade with 480hp which still does 0-200 in 10 sec...just crazy
The whole talk about the fuel isn't technically correct. The horsepower stated by the manufacturer is done with zero timing correction, that is to say the full advance in the base ignition map, under a controlled atmosphere. HOWEVER. The way you guys idle cars in the sun, forever and ever will introduce timing retardation on the base map from higher IATs. The 102 octane in this case will have given you an advantage, because you heatsoak the crap out of the cars you review. You run them back to back and idle them for long periods of time. Hot air means hotter combustion chamber, which means hotter air before compression, so higher likelihood of detonation. Basically, the way the ECU detects a poor grade of fuel is knock detection. If it detects knock, it will back off the timing, thus reducing the power.
Yeah, really bizarre evolution of design. I have a 2017 R and I wouldn’t change it for the new one. I wish mine had the digital dash though, I’m sure you can change it with a tune to get the more interesting Audi displays.

*That's the facelifted version of Golf mk7, called mk7.5 with opf that came with model-year 2019. The facelifted mk7.5 came out 2017 and boosted 310hp before opf became mandatory because of eu-regulations. Mk 7.5 also got a new 7-speed gearbox called dq381 vs the 6-speed dq250 in the mk7.

@@brianfrisbie7937 No. The Golf GTI and R have a cult like following in South Africa. The whole VW brand actually. We have always had the R and actually they even launched one of the generations in South Africa because of it a few years back and we were the first market to get it.
