The fastest it took my uncle to ever make a quilt was 7 weeks, it usually takes him 9 to 11 weeks. Now his quilts are on average 1965 square feet or 183 square meters ! But then again he does the quilting sewing for hot air balloons.
You after 2 hours: one finished quilt! Me after 2 hours: still playing around with the strips of fabric, deciding on the pattern and combination of fabrics.
This is an awesome way to make charity quilts for countries where batting is not required. Warmer countries do not want batting or ties and this method is perfect. Thank you!
This video is my intro to quilting. When I first saw it I thought, "What is this wizardry? Is she seriously making a completely rad tablecloth in a day?" I quickly got this autumn rollie and some fabric from JoJo's and I made a table runner, a smaller double wide runner and three little pumpkins for my mom. It took me two days, but it's beautiful and I have already ordered another jelly roll to make something else... a QUILT! seriously, I'm sold! Thank you for making this fun and great video! All the best :)
You are correct! It is beautiful! Along with a table cloth, you can use it as a light weight quilt! I think some people call them summer quilts. This one would need to be a fall quilt because of the colors, I guess! A fun idea!
I always press to one side. This is the method that works best for me. I've tried pressing open, but it takes too long. And with this video, you have a new subscriber.......ME!
I love your tablecloth. It's beautiful. I have a horrible metal table out on my back veranda. I like to cover it when we are having a BBQ out there. I have lots of placemats but now I'm thinking this tablecloth in Christmas fabrics. I might put a very thin batting in mine as things go clink when plates, cups and glasses are put on the metal so batting will be good for me. Always enjoy your videos. Keep up the good work for us Sandy. See you next time.
@helenwilliams7112 hi! You need to measure the width of all the strips sewn together and that's the measurement of the lenght. For me it's about 7 inches. Happy sewing!
Hi Sandy. I was looking at this or extremely similar on Amazon this morning. It's gorgeous, but I decided to go for a pastel instead, but I'm sure I'll be buying it another day 😊 🧡
Absolutely love that jr, Fall colors are my favorite. Great pattern. Thanks 🙏 Tip suggestion: before sewing the long strips together cut them in half. This will give you more combination options when pairing up your 5 strips. This method is especially useful when a jelly roll has multiples, 3 to 5, of the same strips. Works great 👍
Love the colors in the Jelly Roll you used! Perfect for Fall! However, I didn't care for the white strips. The contrast of the bright white against the Fall colors just looks odd to me. I would have chosen a solid color based on the dark colors in the fabric. Perhaps a dark green? Anyway, I know you chose the white and I'm happy that you love it. It is YOUR quilted tablecloth. You do amazing work and I love the design and Fall colors you chose. It will look beautiful on your table! I enjoy your videos! 🥰
Fabulous!!! I love it so quick and beautiful. Great tutorial you make it look so easy 😮 Question: It looked like you had your white strips folded when you cut them. When I cut fabric folded I usually get a bow in the fabric. How do I get a perfectly cut fabric. Help 😢
Well, that is one reason why I decided to cut a wider strip and fold it, to make sure it was nice and straight. If the fabric is stirdy enough it won't bend but, more often than not, it does. This is one way to keep it from ruining the project 😃
Hello Sandy, I love how happy you are making your video’s. It makes me smile…! 😊 Thank you for sharing this beautiful piece (and the other also). Since I discovered your channel, I’m curious about the next video…..! Keep up the good work and “see” you next time. Ka de slang, a huge fan….
My first time watching you, love your quilt, love all the great ideas to make a quilt quicker than I ever thought possible and I absolutely love how you put this together! The final finished tablecloth is fabulous ❤😊 you did awesome 🎉
I like to fold my seams toward the dark fabric hoping to hide them that way. If I have two light colors together, then the seam is pressed open. ♡ from Texas!
It’s just basic squares, I think Its called a nine square? I think I might jazz up mine a bit with the white binding like you used but use orange or brown.
Pressing changes the size of your block. Open will give you the largest block. To the side will make it smaller. Not a big deal on a block with a few pieces but a complex design can be completely thrown out if you don't press as per pattern. Sincerely former dark side addict 😂
Sew pretty (haha)!! I really want to try this!! I'm new to sewing/quilting, so I'm still learning all the phrases and stuff. What does pressing open mean?
Hehe I see what you did there 😁 pressing the seams open is when you put the seam from one side tonthe left and the seam from the otehr side to the right and press, that way the seams are open. What I usually do is press them all to one side.
I press each seam to the dark after I sew it. I used to wait until quilt block was done, but its hard to find press a seam in the direction you want when it's been sewn over. My sewing turns out better when I press as I sew.
Yes, when doing jelly roll race type tops, pressing seams open improves the stability of the top. Open seams are just as durable as closed. And they don’t fight with each other at intersections. Also it makes less lumps.
Thank you for this video. Love the Fall colors. Found it on Amazon. I also opted for an off-white jelly roll color instead of pure white. I plan to do what they call a "seminole" stripping. I hope it turns out nice.
Wow, that’s awesome! I don’t quilt, but like with the tablecloth, you could use it so many ways. I think my ADHD would kick in, though, and I woul get so confused trying to remember what goes where.
Fast and jaw-dropping, there's no other way to describe this... I love it!!! What's the fastest you've ever made a quilt top?
I’m going to try this without batting to make a summer weight quilt. Thanks.

I was always taught to press towards the darker fabric so the excess doesn't show through on the light side. Love your stuff!!!
Press open, lower stitch length and backstitch at beginning and end. Never had a problem with this pressing option. Love the quilt!
Thank you! I'll give it a try! I've been nesting the seams all this time, I'm ready for something different heheh.
I do the same.

Yes! I have a couple summer quilts and I love them and use them all year round to cover my old but warm duvet 😁
Those strips are so fall-like and beautiful!! 😍 They just give me a warm, comforting feeling!
I know, right? And they're so soft! I loved working with these!
I looked at that jelly roll and thought hey I have those. So I double checked and I do! Now I know what to do with it!

Try a light batting. Quilt with a plastic table cloth as backing with plastic side out. Makes it reversible.
