The lyrics are especially interesting once you play the game and realize this song is sung from the POV of a certain character. Three Houses definitely was the birth of dubstep in the series. A complete departure from its predecessors. 😅
Do you mean the 4 Hounds Themes? Cause besides that and the Final boss themes I don‘t remember any other dubstep… but Engage certainly doesn‘t reach Shambhala or Darkness (the one from Hopes) levels of it.
Yeah as far as Fire themes go, this isn't really on brand outside of the title of the series (there's some fire themes within the story and the lyrics for sure). But I think the song is really good and everyone just couldn't resist to vote for it haha. You could call this the main theme of Three Houses.
It’s worth noting that in Japanese this song's title is "Lady of Hresvelg" which, if the lyrics themselves didn’t already make it obvious, tells you exactly which character is supposed to be singing this song.
I imagine this song simply won the vote because it's just a really good one and because of how much it means to fans of the game, me included. It's very unusual indeed for Fire Emblem (with a shortened version essentially serving as the "anime opening" for the game), but the soundtracks can be quite varied and you've only heard a small sample of the whole franchise. The classic sound you described is pretty common sure, but more recent games have definitely mixed things up a lot. Fire Emblem Fates that came out a few years before Three Houses has an especially distinct sound, perfectly representing its two contrasting kingdoms with a lot of bangers. Honestly though, all of the modern post-Awakening entries have some really damn good soundtracks. No doubt the resurgence of the franchise in general helped secure bigger budgets than the older games had, though the old-school Fire Emblem sound still has a certain appeal. Just like Mario or Zelda, the Fire Emblem main theme originated from the very first NES game and is still used in games to this day in one form or another even with modern games exploring more genres in their soundtracks. Sure, it's nowhere near as iconic but to longtime fans of the franchise it certainly is.
So this song is basically used for an lot of Fire emblem 3 houses tracks as an leitmotif, as for the song its lyrics are sung from the PoV of Edelgard one of the main characters (The girl wearing red in the cover) and the lyrics mean so so much if you know the story. As for in general 3H started a much more dubsteppy type music used in this game and engage, but it’s more pronounced. The most Dubstep track in 3H is Shambala which makes sense for the chapter and enemies it plays for. Anyways I will only go into story spoilers of the comments of this
Also not sure why they picked Edge of Dawn probably because it rolled off the tongue better than the songs Japanese title and is less spoilerly to who sings it in Lady of Hraesvelg
The more recent Fire Emblem games (I believe starting with Echoes) all had one or two Vocal Tracks that served as their main theme and greatly deviated from what you're familiar with. Their leitmotifs are used in many of the games' more traditional tracks (Like you can hear "The Edge of Dawn" in "Fodlan Winds", "Apex of the World" and MANY more) Other examples of Vocal Themes would be "God Shattering Star" (Thee Houses), "Lost in Throughts, All Alone" (Fates), "Dark Song" (Fates), "The Heritors of Arcadia" (Echoes)
Three Houses has to easily be my favorite Fire Emblem in spite of its major engine issues and somewhat at times lacking gameplay. But it more than makes up for that in its diversity in said gameplay and story and ESPECIALLY music…
right, not only does the song make no sense without story progress, even the Titular Fire Emblem has NEVER ONCE been an actual fire, it's been various objects and it's been a person, but it's never been an actual flame.
This is actually the opening to the game, the lyrics are definitely the thoughts of a certain character in the game. The dubstep sound is also thematically related to a faction in the game. Its such a cool song when you realize those connections
I think this may be one of my favourite pieces of gaming music (that has lyrics), I was addicted to it when the game first came out, but never managed to find an official version on Spotify, a lot of good covers though!
Love this song! It definitely needs context and knowledge of the characters and story to be related to fire. The song itself doesn't exactly draw flaming imagery.
As the main leitmotif for Three Houses it's literally a "Fire (emblem) theme" otherwise I don't get the connection to fire specifically. I think this version with vocals only plays in the credits, but I could be misremembering. You hear the leitmotif a lot throughout the game, especially in the battle themes Fodlan Winds and The Apex of the World (which you reacted to on the channel years ago)
this version of the song is on the opening of the game that you see if you leave the main menu doing nothing, the version in the credits is a far calmer version of the song that if i remember correctly has quite a bit of piano

As for what the songs about, again, without spoiling too much, this game takes place at a war academy where you play as a professor teaching a class of students from one of the three houses, of which you pick from in the beginning of the game. Each house hails from a different kingdom, and one of the main students of yours is later revealed to be a villain who has been plotting against the church that runs the academy. This villain is known as the Flame Emperor. The song is told from the Flame Emperors point of view, knowing that there is something they have to do, but regretting that that choice will negatively affect the player.
Specifically when she gets to the all of the snow line that whole section is Byleth, blue moonlight is Dimitri, and the wind is Claude. Which makes sense Byleth is one that she feels at ease with and also has an big crush on, Dimitri is one that ideologically opposed to her but she respects him greatly and lastly is Claude who has similar views to Edelgard to the point in her route you can avoid killing him and he does all he can to try and avoid getting his men killed knowing that he and edelgard share an similar goal just they both went about it in different ways
the song, and to some degree the entire game, is about the passage of time, so I think mixing those more tecno bits into the song is supposed to represent the past and future. There is another song (Blue skies and a battle) which harshly contrasts classical orchestral and tecno sounds, which is also related to whats being sung in this song. Or maybe they just thought it sounded cool, idk.
That's a cool theory! Although I personally believe that the electronic/dubstep elements are meant to represent... (spoilers) ...The encroaching nature of the Agarthans, a.k.a Those Who Slither in the Dark, and how they are the ones behind most events of the story, just like how the electronic elements are "behind" in the OST. I love the Edge of Dawn! Basically, you can think of this as a credits song involving a "Flame Emperor" which is how this relates to fire. You mentioned being surprised by there being a strong story element, but all Fire Emblem games basically have a strong story emphasis, with maybe exceptions of FE1, FE2, and FE3, but even then, they had strong story elements for the time (NES). Three Houses arguably has some of the strongest writing of the series. To this day you STILL see debates online about the morality of the different sides, which is very rare to see in a video game.

This it’s on brand for the fire theme. The girl in the picture of the video the song is from her perspective. Lyrically it connects but it also connects thematically. Her story route is called; “crimson rose” which also references fire. On top of that she has an alter ego bye the name of (the flame emperor.” It’s been a while since I played the game but the guy wearing yellow is also associated with wind as his story route is “verdant wind”
“The Edge of Dawn (Seasons of Warfare)” and “The Edge of Dawn” are two separate songs, actually, they use similar lyrics but there’s a marked difference in tonality such as “I look to you, like a red rose. Seeking the sun, no matter where it goes I long to stay, where the light dwells. To guard against the cold that I know so well” in this version is instead “As I live out, each peaceful day. Deep in my soul. Oh I know I can’t stay So I wish I, could hide away. Hold tight to what I love. Keep cruel fate at bay” And “My dearest wish, is that you’ll know. These tender thoughts that only seem to grow They are as snow, melting away yet seeking your warmth, if only for a day” is “Don’t ever take Back your kind hand Lest precious love Slip away like time’s sand Only we will know All that was lost Scars that we can’t erase Show us life’s true cost” Those are the major differences aside the speed of the songs, and the lyrics alone say a lot, it’s a favorite song of mine, hope you hear the other version too
This is a great song, I think it is so well written, there are a couple that I think are excellent lyrics: _As the rain falls on the path_ _I chase your shadow_ _I don’t feel a single drop_ _Or the ground below_ _The Blue Moonlight_ _Cuts across our sight_ _As pure and clear as a ringing bell_ (also shoutouts to her popping off while singing this part). The music in Fire Emblem started to take a bit of a turn like this from Awakening onwards. Takeru Kanazaki has largely been the frontrunner of composing for the series since then (edit: actually he started in Fates), usually with Hiroki Morishita and Rei Kondoh and some others doing a few pieces as well. It is still usually expectedly castle/war/march/royalty etc themes, but with the occasional contemporary pop ballad like this or the odd track that leans a bit more into rock or an upbeat tempo. FE Three Houses I feel is where it got more experimental. Throughout the soundtrack you will hear things like the theme of the Monastery, which is fairly gentle and chill with flutes and violins...but also a subtle low-fi beat. You have already listened to Tempest of Seasons which throws in synths which can seem unexpected, but I think they did such a good job of blending it all in with the rest of the sound that it doesn't sound jarring at all, in fact the soundtrack is a masterpiece as far as I'm concerned. What was completely unexpected in Fire Emblem was dubstep. But there does exist in Three Houses a track that goes hard into dubstep and I'm not sure anyone knows how to process it to this day LOL
Being a Fire emblem fan since the GBA era seeing the first trailer with this dub steppy direction had me floored because it was a tone shift for the series. Three houses was and is a great entry to the series but is very diffirent with it's design and tones from the rest of the series and this being the opening credits really makes it clear.
Yet another amazing game you need to experience. I think you would like it a lot. Especially since it's a style you haven't played yet. Could be a nice pallet cleanser after all the Xenoblade.
Until i checked the comments i was extremely confused cause the dubstep/electronic nature of it threw me off, I only really remembered the other more piano focused version of the song. Absolutely loved this though, its funny how similar of a reaction i had to yours though considering its a song i thought it knew super well.
This song has two versions and this one is part of the intro cinematic before you hit start on the game. The other version is much calmer and less dubstep like for the credits. But this game has two versions of most songs and one is almost always more intense and beat-ridden
Seasons of Warfare is a banger, sure, but I will always love the credits version of the song more. It's so melancholic and... well, appropriate for the story.
Considering you've checked out Three Houses stuff before I'm fairly sure you've gotten the explanation (probably from me at one point) but regarding the seasons subtitle, most songs of the soundtrack have some sort of similar subtitles because they're used in a battle of some sort. At which point there's multiple versions of the song loaded at the same time, one version playing in the tactical view as you're issuing orders to units, and shifting to the other as the battle animations play out, with the battle themes having the more heavy percussion sections. I believe - it's been years so y'know, memory and grain of salt and such - this particular song has a tactical view version, a battle view version, and a cinematic version with the in battle versions being instrumental and this with the lyrics being a cinematic/credits version.
This song sounding much more different and electronic/dubstepy than other Fire emblems, started with this game and continued with the next in the series, Engage. There is a big story reason that makes sense of it, so I wont spoil why.
I’d say the music is less LITERAL fire 🔥 and more METAPHORICAL fire (the fires of war). Great game btw, Three Houses is basically 3+ different but similar campaigns that are EACH super duper long. (The reason I say 3+ campaigns is due to there being a dlc campaign and a small optional side-campaign). Eitherway, if you like tactical warfare stuff, this is great👍🏻
The vocals are supposed to be one of the main characters basically singing about their feelings and thoughts throughout the story. It is about how she chooses war and destruction despite feeling peace and sublime with the playable main character because she does not see any other choice.
Oh u have to react to the OP and ending songs for fire emblem engage. The op especially gives big Saturday morning anime vibes. Or tokyo mirage sessions songs. It's a crossover between the fire emblem and shin megami tense series ( the series persona spun off from). The music in Tms is all jpop
While it is quite a reach, especially if you don't know the game's story, there is a bit of a connection to a "Fire" motif aside from the obvious reason of coming from a Fire Emblem game (and that the song itself is mega lit lol). Spoilers ahead for the game. This song is both the main theme of the game AND of the white-haired girl you see on the right of the image, with the song detailing her thoughts and desires due to the fact that she essentially moves the game's story forward in many ways. One of those ways is to mask herself behind a figure known as the *Flame* Emperor. She also has some sort of a magical power inside of her that's known as the "Crest of *Flames*". That's... probably it lol. The Fire motif is definitely not readily apparent upon first listen. I think people just saw "Fire" and wanted a good excuse to submit a Fire Emblem song, and tbf this in an incredible one, especially if you know its context.
In some Fire Emblem games the Fire Emblem is a real item, that is not the case in three houses, as far as I know the series doesn’t really have anything to do with fire. I could be very wrong though. I just think it’s interesting. Also most of the games aren’t too connected from what I can tell, I’m still relatively new to the series though
I think "Roar of Dominion" would have probably been a better choice from this game for a fire theme. I do adore this track tho, but it doesn't have as much weight without context.
The fire theme here is much more metaphorical and is hidden in the lyrics. This song has a tragic context and it gets darker when you read into the lyrics and find symbolism for events in the game. The Edge of Down (not the Seasons of Warfare version) is played at the credits of them. Catch is there are 4 different endings to the game, but The Edge of Down is played at the end of only 3 of them. The other credits song has almost the opposite meaning because you chose the ending that supports the context of The Edge of Down. The Edge of Down is a "what if?" credits song.
Definitely not what I'd say is a fire theme. It's a good song. Just aside from the name Fire Emblem. Definitely not fire related. This is the main theme of Three Houses.
Man, even now this song makes me emotional. 5 years later and it being about a character I don't particularly like all too much (on a personal level) and it still gets me in the feels
Everybody talking about how this melody is used throughout the game, but nobody is bringing up the most iconic version that plays in the monastery. Also, I'm pretty sure your community just wanted you to listen to this and having it on the poll gave it priority. It has absolutely nothing to do with fire. It's from the perspective of Edlegard, the woman in the picture wearing red. She has a fire-themed pseudonym, but the connection is a big stretch.
Hey, im new to the fire emblem series. For anyone who has played it, is it worth playing? Im into turn based rpgs but never played any of the Fire emblem series.
It's interesting you would say that you never heard Fire Emblem like that, because you actually did. You made a video on "The Apex of the World" from three Houses. That song is basically an instrumental version of "Edge of Dawn" with slightly more orchestra in it, though it still absolutely contains dubstep elements. You even pointed out the offbeat drop at the final chorus in bith videos lol. Also of note: This song isn't exactly used for credits, but there is a slower ballad like version of the song that IS used for the end credits, with a slight change to the lyrics to make them more melancholy. Overall, this song acts as a sort of main theme for the game, with the motif repeated in a whole bunch of places. It also serces as a character theme for one particular character who is vaguely fire themed! (This character is also the villain of the game depending on how you look at it, making this song her villain song).
One other thing I've noticed is that you're constantly being requested to listen to final boss themes (especially in Fire Emblem) which may give you a certain impression that Fire Emblem as a whole is all about that "big sound" when there's really a lot more depth in the OST. Either way, I always get really nervous when you post a Fire Emblem video. The game series is pretty close to my heart, but I feel a lot of the music doesn't hit as hard out of context. The field music is also meant to be heard going in and out of battle. Recall Rain/Thunder variants changing the tempo of the song. This song Edge of Dawn is basically the game's main theme and it's full of motifs. I kind of wish you would listen to more music from Fire Emblem Engage or Fire Emblem Echoes. Those two have outstanding pieces. And what really SHOCKS me is that you haven't heard the Fire Emblem Series main theme yet.
YAAAAASSSSS 😂 Three Houses is one of my favourite titles ever made. I have the Crests of Blaiddyd, Lamine, and Gautier as tattoos myself. You can take a guess what house is my fav 😂 Funeral of Flowers is probs my favourite song, though Apex of the World is a close second.
Can I just say the English vocals hit so much harder than the Japanese for me? You can really feel the emotion and crispness of her voice much more than the Japanese singer (who also did great btw). Her enunciation is excellent too. It's a shame she wanted to stay anonymous though!
This song is used as map themes not just the intro. The Apex of the World being one of those instances. As for the song itself, I've heard it enough times to just be numb to it. It's good as a opening theme, the lyrics fit the character. It's just a shame that the character who is the focus of the song has a nerfed story - in terms of gameplay and length.

Show us life’s true cost”
Those are the major differences aside the speed of the songs, and the lyrics alone say a lot, it’s a favorite song of mine, hope you hear the other version too
You should react to “Inconstant One” from Fire Emblem Engage. That theme is great
This is a great song, I think it is so well written, there are a couple that I think are excellent lyrics:
_As the rain falls on the path_
_I chase your shadow_
_I don’t feel a single drop_
_Or the ground below_
_The Blue Moonlight_
_Cuts across our sight_
_As pure and clear as a ringing bell_ (also shoutouts to her popping off while singing this part).
THE EDGE OF PEAK
Everyone when they heard Dubstep in Fire Emblem: "..what??"
@@Pichu1232 area 17 Redux
Being a Fire emblem fan since the GBA era seeing the first trailer with this dub steppy direction had me floored because it was a tone shift for the series.
Three houses was and is a great entry to the series but is very diffirent with it's design and tones from the rest of the series and this being the opening credits really makes it clear.
This song always gives me chills.
WTF I was literally listening to this yesterday and went "Man, I wonder if Jesse is ever gonna listen to this song?"
Yet another amazing game you need to experience. I think you would like it a lot. Especially since it's a style you haven't played yet. Could be a nice pallet cleanser after all the Xenoblade.
This really has nothing to do with fire, haha
The Three Houses main motif has to be one of the strongest motifs in anything, it's crazy good.
Until i checked the comments i was extremely confused cause the dubstep/electronic nature of it threw me off, I only really remembered the other more piano focused version of the song. Absolutely loved this though, its funny how similar of a reaction i had to yours though considering its a song i thought it knew super well.
I can’t believe you’re just now listening to this holy shit. I hope you have more FE3H on the way. Masterpiece of a game and soundtrack
I found it pretty funny this one was the top voted, because the game title is truly the only connection to fire here.
Still a great OST though.
I would also recommend the regular version of this song
I love the "...what?" The most honest reaction lol
I feel like the promptly named song "I Burn" from BlazBlue CrossTag Battle might help with that VGM Vibes video
You would love to play this game
He might like “Royal Confidence” from Fire Emblem: Engage
My favorite song from this game is Chasing Daybreak. God Shattering Star is a close second though.
Fire Emblem was at its peak when it was on the SNES and GBA
FE4-FE8, 6 and 7 being the best
There’s two versions of this song. This is the seasons of warfare version as you saw lol
For the love of GOD somebody please send him Flame Core - Volcano and Flame Core - The Cavern from Sonic 06 for his fire-themed vgm vibes
i just wanna give Edelgard a hug, man
Somebody gotta request the trifecta that is apex of the world rain, thunder, and inferno for 1 vid all 3 back to back is a ride.
"Fire emblem? This is Fire emblem?? Fire Emblem went Jpop so hard" My first though when I first hear Japanese PV of Edge of Dawn.
If you want something fire related, listen to Edge of Adversity (:
Now that's a hot track.
Only thing I'll say is the song is sang through the point of view of the Character Edelgard.
Edging at Dawn
Think of this song like the opening to an anime
Man, even now this song makes me emotional. 5 years later and it being about a character I don't particularly like all too much (on a personal level) and it still gets me in the feels
omg I don't think he's listened to Shambhala from Three Houses soundtrack yet, he's gonna be even more confused
You just re open a wound I thought closed long ago
Where is the fire connection? The song itself.
Imma be real, idk why people chose this for a fire VGM, this is the opening of the game 3 houses, great song but doesnt give off a fire theme vibe
Have you not heard "lost in thoughts all alone"?
alot of people compare 3 houses specifically to Persona cause they share some gameplay similarities
YAAAAASSSSS 😂 Three Houses is one of my favourite titles ever made. I have the Crests of Blaiddyd, Lamine, and Gautier as tattoos myself.
You can take a guess what house is my fav 😂
Funeral of Flowers is probs my favourite song, though Apex of the World is a close second.
@@rontheauraknight9606 I know, but trying to keep things vague for the guy who hasn't played the game.....
@@davidwhidden9337 I think he doesn’t actually read comment threads just comments. Since I’ve never seen him like things in a thread just the comment itself. Still if you don’t think that’s safe I will delete it
Even with that, other story routes still showcase the character and how this song relates to them. It sucks that my fav house leader got such a truncated route, though.
The Dub is okay, but the original, Japanese version is better.
Ugh. Hate this song. Basically sung from the perspective of one of the "protagonists", and for a painful amount of reasons this song rings of massive hypocrisy.
Pretty aight composition tho'. Lightly confusing mix of electronica with classical, but still enjoyable. Love its reprises, honestly.
🤡 take
@@Trikzilla Dude Edelgard is a massive hypocritical cunt. It's a bit hard to care for her singing about "the better times" if she is the one that set off the spark of war to begin with.
The song is essentially the POV of the villain of the game in relation to the Main Character. Spoiler: She's down bad
Sounds like persona? Hell no
