GBA Fire Emblem logic: Spinning your weapon always does more damage even if you do nothing with the momentum.
Style Points are just as valuable as Mt Points
Obviously the swag scares enemies making their defense go down instead of the player increasing their damage
Or taking a deep breath, or screaming loudly.
I miss the cool looking ones, the spins add to the awesomeness. New ones are just to meh.

Mercenary was definitely my favorite. The sheer amount of SASS they'll exert before obliterating something is the cherry on top.

That's why I think Mercenary is on par with Hero. Hero has the cooler jump, but Mercenary has the little sword wag where I can just picture them giving a smug grin at the enemy before obliterating them off the face of the earth

Man one underappreciated animation was Eliwood base crit. The sword twinkle is so good. Also, the sniper crit animation is really clean for a twirl crit, it makes the pullback of the bow seem devastating. Sage and Wyvern Lord should be A but that's just because I love those classes.
The way Eliwood jumps back and turns around is a very underrated aspect as well
The only reason they stuck Eliwood in C tier was because they watched his immediately after putting Lyn in A and before watching any of the lackluster standard classes.
Oh and Hector got put higher because everyone loves Hector regardless of the fact that most of his crit animations are the most minor changes compared to his normal ones.
Amelia's crit is an "oh god the enemy's coming this spear is heavy!--oh... my... it landed in their eye socket."
Lyn absolutely shits on everyone else. She has 3 animations that could be some other classes final animation.

when i saw lyn's crit animation for the very first time against Batta... that's what really pulled me into the Fire Emblem series

If you watch closely, you see that Hector Is right handed, he uses his axes In his right hand.
But with Armads, he usually uses the axe with his LEFT hand, only changing to the right as he's about to strike.
Either ya boi contains himself with Armads by using it on the left hand and only unleashes it's power during the crit...
OR he's actually left handed and throughout the whole game he was *HOLDING BACK!*
Or he's ambidextrous.
He's a nobleman who have to follow etiquette, even if he don't like it.
Of course he'll force himself to be right handed for the most part.
But this fight wasn't about looking good, it was about survival

Paladin is probably one of my favorites. I like how they almost just rev up the horse for the attack
If that was Seth's paladin animation as I recall his horse just keeps going faster I think did anyone notice the difference between Seth's horse running vs like paladins (Marcus etc.) Cause I feel like Seth's horse goes faster.

In my opinion, the regular Berserker is my favourite one, it starts slow, but in just a blink the Berserker already has his axe on your head, it's basically says that you're dead before you even know it, and I think that's cool af, it may not be flashy, but it's a testament to how deadly Berserkers are.
The kneeling after the blow gives the feeling of a brutal blow too
I'd love to see a GBA spell animation tier list somehow
Aureola, Ivaldi, Apocalypse, Ereshkigal, and Excalibur are easily the best ones.
Fire tome is the most boring. Even Awakening's fire tome is slightly more interesting. Which really says something considering the spell animations are generally not well regarded there (especially with what happened to Forseti).

Athos' crit animation + Forblaze will always be a personal favourite of mine, feels like one of the most powerful in the game.
As for Awakening animations, I really like the Mjolnir. Kind of like bolting with the massive lightning strike. It's so satisfying with Astra to watch mjolnir let an entire storm down on some poor enemy.
couple subtle things i really like that i feel should be considered. the way warrior catches hand ax and holds the pose like a boss makes there hand ax stand out IMO AND warrior spins the BOW, not the arrow like every other archer, Warrior has alot of subtle unique's to there crits. and on Merc, they flip in unison with the sword throw, the percision of the spinning character + spinning sword is sweet.
Man assassin's lethality flash when critting enemies goes hard why it isn't S tier
i dunno about the dislike on great knight. literally puts all the weight into a meaty slam of the weapon against the enemy; and not to mention the horse's hoof scraping the ground was a nice touch too.
I like Paladin's critical animations more, but it make sense Great Knights have slower but heavier looking critical attacks.
I feel like whenever FE7 gets a remake, Hector’s Armads crit animation should get a lightning effect, unless they decide to do a special combat art for him
If FE6 ever gets a remake Lilina should get a unique class that lets her use both anima tomes and axes, in addition to making her essential so she can play a more important role in the story and not just rely on Merlinus ex Machina.

@@hoshueyeplopper4465 Honestly after seeing Roy and Merlinus and Elphin for like the entire game I want them to turn FE6 into a game so similar to what happened to Radiant Dawn, different main characters between parts. You can have Roy on Lycia from the first 8 chapters, Cecilia on Etruria onwards to chapter 13, etc.
Great Knigt was crazy underrated, the way they thrust their lance and backhand with swords and axes looks so brutal
General is the one I always come back to. The ease they spin those massive weapons before releasing all that weight on a squishy target never stops being satisfying. And yeah, the chain just elevates it even higher.
Archer got did dirty there is a short pause and breath before the swirl
I LOVE GBA fire emblem crits the most. They're probably some of my favorite animations in all of gaming.
To this day the GBA FE crit animations are still the best
What was a crit you guys remembered the most? For me it was Hawkeye & Pent in that one sand map. Jeez, the amount of crits I witnessed in that map had me like “wow!”
Lyn is so memorable the way her animated crit is so crazy just on that first map! (If you’re lucky and get one)
By first map if you mean the prologue if you aren’t playing on hard it’s always a guaranteed crit
In normal mode on prologue chapter, Lyn will always crit
For me, it is the Jaffar from Battle Before Dawn. I remember getting blown away by Jaffar who was just running around the map critting and silencing literally everyone. The assassin crit is also one of my favorite ones
I like how a bunch of the monsters laugh when they crit.

Mercenary was robbed imo, that sassy sword waggle has so much personality
From what I remember, for Monk and Bishop, the visual effect of the attack hitting the enemy is flashier. Same goes for valkyrie, it's not just "two frames". Comparing the standard and ceit animations back to back would have been a better way to do this, but it would've taken nearly twice as much time.
Almost for got how sleek the GBA animations are. It's such eye candy

There were clashing opinions here... Great Knight was done injustice and even worse got slammed down to D Tier later, I thought it's menacing look would make it higher. Knight's javelin crit was overlooked, it felt like a tank shot. Druid was bribed to A (which I don't mind)
That's all there is to it, other than that I agree to this tier list

Monsters have more voicelines than the whole human roster.

Armoured Knight animations are quite okay, but I feel that if the horse just would jump on the enemy, that would be so savage, especially for the lance animation. The entire animation is kinda building up for it too!
Myrmidon is propably the first crit u gonna eat in these games, because every time, you must recruit him with a fucking killer edge jesus
Also pissed Lynn never made it into smash. They just made Roy like 5 times. (Animation set wise)

My personal favourite GBA crit are archer and mage. I kinda like rapier crit, a powerful, single trust that immediately pierce through enemy's armour. (probably influenced by Marth's final smash... )

I cannot fathom how your brain can see the same thing three times and think they're completely different, see two completely different things and think they're exactly the same, and then claim that a completely unique animation concept is boring while the same twirls you've seen a million times has more pizzazz. Pretty good tier list. Agree with most of these. I would only swap Eliwood with Hector, Swordmaster with Assassin and bump Hero to S tier.
If Paladin ran off the screen like the promoted Fliers or neighed before charging it would've been an easy S tier though. If it did both it would've been S+ tier.

Awakening and Fates have some pretty good critical animations; but Shadows of Valentia improved upon the critical animations.

Impressive how wrong so many of these are to me, both high and low. A lot of the ones that are super underrated are ones that play with contrast: Erika Lord, Archer, and Berserker are delibrately slow in contrast to the normal attack animations, watching them in isolation doesn't get the full picture
I agree. Archer's is my absolute favorite because of the little pause.
Erika lord's crit is so good as a follow-up, she instantly takes the second hop back and you're like :O

It feels like a still significant enough part of the fanbase likes treating him as a punching bag. Corrin (at least the male one) deserves that; not Eliwood (even if Corrin is the much stronger unit).
Regarding Eliwood's animations; I quite like the finalized version of promoted Eliwood wielding Durandal.

I think Assassin is better than any other generic class if you compare their crit animation to normal attack animation. Everything else ends up in the same pose after they hit except for the assassin.
I feel like the thief's regular attack is a cooler animation than the crit. Was always a fan.
