The "Rain" part in the song title refers to the version. Each Three Houses Song has two versions: Rain and Thunder. The Rain version is usually more melodic and plays during the Strategic Map view sections of the game and the Thunder version usually has more percussions and plays during combat animations (there are exceptions like Funeral of Flowers where this is switched). These two versions flow into each other seemlessly during gameplay.

I wonder if Fodlan Winds will ever make it here. Because it is basically THE theme, with the main leitmotif being most pronounced and the music being most concentrated on the emotional part: the nostalgia, the things lost and the former friends and pupils you have to kill just because you ended up on the different sides of barricades. Yeah, who could've thought that the main merits of the tactical RPG will be the story and the characters.

God-Shattering Star is a fantastic song, but this is my favorite, because it has the game's main theme (Edge of Dawn) running throughout the entire piece. It has the biggest sense of finality out of all the final tracks and a serious emotional impact because of it, I love it.

If you've played any of the Smash Bros games, there's a lot of Fire Emblem characters in them. I heard you bring up Brawl once, which added Ike. You also have Marth and Roy in Melee, who are also Fire Emblem characters.
Fire Emblem is a lot like Final Fantasy, in terms of the story, setting, and characters being different per entry, outside of a few. However, Fire Emblem is a Strategy Tactics RPG, in which you move your characters around like chess pieces. Three Houses in particular was just such a good game on its own, that it won the Players' Choice Award in the 2019 Video Game Awards.

The song plays at the final battle of the game, Three House allowing you to pick which side of a war you want to support/lead. So this song plays when you fight the other side of character which you did not support. Hidden within this song are themes for your/a main character, the main battle theme, the main theme / opening of the game, and even the them of the Fire Emblem Franchise as a whole.

Fire Emblem games are war dramas, Three Houses included. In this game, you choose between the titular Three Houses, and that choice determines what story route you'll go down, with one of the three routes splitting off halfway as well, making for a total of four endings.
God Shattering Star was for one of those endings, and A Funeral Of Flowers is used for another ending.
Apex of the World plays in the remaining two.
This song has so many small leitmotifs from across the game, the biggest one being "Edge of Dawn" basically the main theme of the game.
Essentially, it's the anime trope of playing the opening in the final fight.

  • @captainpep3

  • @lunathick

This song, God-Shattering Star, and one you havent heard called Funeral of Flowers, are the themes for the final maps/bosses of the routes of the game (Apex of the world for 2 of them).
(spoilers but im being pretty vague)
God shattering star plays facing a man of legend coming back from the dead, if im recalling correctly to finish what he started centuries ago, and bringing spirits of other heroes of legend with him to fight you that are the original nobles of the various ruling houses (not related to the title of the game mostly) youve come to know and either ally with or fight in the game.
Apex of the world plays on directly opposing routes, though for different reasons. Something to note is aside 1 route (which is related to funeral of flowers) you are siding with one of the "three houses" you picked at the beginning of the game. For one of the aforementioned routes that play this, you are fighting the individual who caused everyone to seperate in the first place (who was previously just a friendly rival and potential (romantic) lover to your house leader), finally seeking to end the invading force they have built and cut off this "great betrayer". On the other route, you are actually allied with said "great betrayer", but you are not fighting the house leader of the other route i mentioned, instead fighting the one you sided with's main goal, who was bascially the one pulling a curtain over the whole region's style of government, who is actually basically a demigod-dragon.
Yeah, the level of "epicness" in these songs are there for a reason

  • @guruthosamarthruin4459

If there's one Fire Emblem song in the entire series that people should react to, it's "Don't Speak Her Name!" from Fire Emblem: Awakening.

  • @FrostedMike
    @FrostedMike 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

Knowing the context of the track, it reflects perfectly the story.
Apex Of The World, God Shuttering Star and A Funeral Of Flowers are the tracks playing at the last level of the game, each for a different ending. Fire Emblem Three Houses however have 4 endings, which means one of the tracks is played in two endings. Apex Of The World got this honor.
This track is played for the endings with the exact opposite outcome to each other, something that should tell you that your win is at the expense of another. The track starts slow and gains momentum, for the hardships made to reach this point. Turns to epic which leads to believe that it's the right ("Just") choice you made, but that violin part is sad and nostalgic, there to remind us the cost of this victory. It's a good ending, the right ending, the just ending, but makes you wish there was another way. The tragic part of the ending.
Why "Apex"? Someone must come on top. You can't be an apex without pray.
    While at the topic.
"The Edge Of Down" is recommended. It's the "main theme" of FE3H.
Other interesting tracks will be "Blue Sky And A Battle" and "Between Heaven And Earth" (Rain versions of course). If you listen to these two, listen to both with Blue Sky And A Battle first and Between Heaven and Earth right after. This is for the full experience and I think a rare moment in video games when the music alone can tell the entire essence of the game. Each track alone doesn't worth it.

  • @Skasaha_
    @Skasaha_ 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Something you might notice if you listen to a lot of Fire Emblem map themes like this is that many of them have drums and other aspects like a military march. This is because it's a strategy game where you command a (small) army and it's pretty consistent across the entire 30 year history of the series, even back to the 8-bit tunes.
Rain/Thunder is a dynamic soundtrack thing that's in most of the recent Fire Emblem games. They will morph into each other as you zoom in and out of individual fights on the battlefield, continuing along exactly in time.
One of my favourite composers is Yuka Tsujiyoko, the original Fire Emblem composer who did the first 7 and a bit games of the series. That's a long time ago now though, the last game she did the full soundtrack for was in 2003. The fourth FE game Genealogy of the Holy War has an enormous soundtrack and it's map themes (esp ch 2) are absolutely beautiful and are a pretty big part of why I'm really into video game music over anything else.

This is my favorite song from the entire game and really fits thematically. The melody during the first portion of the song is the main theme of the game that plays in the beginning credits and early fights so you hear the tune often throughout the game, and it's reused and expanded upon here. This is the final fight for two routes of the game and the beginning really sets in the tone of you're deploying your troops for the final battle while making the song really grand by reusing the same tune you've been hearing throughout the game.

This, God-Shattering Star and Battle Between Heaven and Earth are easily the top tracks from all Three Houses. Each easily contending with any comparable tracks in prior Fire Emblem games, if not surpassing depending on who you ask. As for this song itself, it's in a way a reprise of the game's central motifs in a way, while also still evolving and surpassing them. Why Leitmotif certainly has finally been getting to people in a more negative light more recently, when a game does leitmotif well like this song does... Well, need I speak for the result? A bombastic way to conclude on with the final map of the game. And a very, very fitting one for both the routes its in, regardless of my personal opinions on one being way too short and rushed.

Three Houses specifically, is the 16th mainline game in the series. As a strategy based rpg, the games generally take place during massive wars, and are known for often having multiple routes showing different sides of said war or following different heroes through their story in a greater conflict. Could you react to " ID (Serenity)" and "ID (Purpose)" from Fire Emblem Awakening?

Every battle theme from Fire Emblem: Three Houses has 2 ver. (Rain) plays during most of the stage while (thunder) ver. Plays when a fight starts, it's a turn-based top-down strategy game.
Honestly there is NO (thunder) ver. worth listening to(they only add more BASE and drums)except for "A Funeral of Flowers" I don't want to spoil the musical magic the (Rain) and (Thunder) ver. of that song is but....I hope you'll get to listen to it eventually.

the thing about fire emblem being niche is that up until this game, it kinda was. like a lot of Nintendos lesser known series, FE exploded in popularity on the switch, even more so than it did back during the 3DS days, meaning the game reached a much wider audience than any of its predecessors

So this game has multiple routes and endings and this theme here plays in two of them. I’ll describe it’s scenarios a bit if you want to read them:
    1. You are in the verge of ending a war that plagued the continent for over 5 years and stand against the Emperor Edelgard who is the step sibling of King Dimitri of a other nation you are a part of. Edelgard was the one who started the war and is now cornered to her last stand. She’s gone so far to transform herself into a Demonic Husk Hegemon Edelgard to claim victory. In game play you constantly have to worry about her attacking your Characters since she can do so at an incredible far range while you deal with her army.
    2. In this Route you side with Edelgard and oppose everyone else and try to win this war. You already brought down both leaders of the other country’s and you are now fighting the last resistance. These are the remnant’s of the Kingdom of which Dimitri was already killed by Edelgard and the Church of Seiros who ally with them. The battle takes in the capital of the Kingdom which was set ablaze to slow you down. And the last enemy you fight there is a Dragon which is part of the church and tries as a last effort to defeat the Empire.
As you can see both a extremely different and other routes too. What’s also obvious is that Edelgard is the one who starts the war and in one Route you side with her and all other are against her which means picking her Route results in you having to kill everyone else… and that is one reason why I personally are totally against that Route and don’t pick it besides one time to 100% the game😅
Oh and the ‘Rain’ part in the title just means that is the rain version of the song of which there is also a ‘Thunder’ version. Basically just map and battle version. The Thunder versions are usually always louder and grader versions of the Rain ones.

I find it really cool to compare it to the original from the NES game. The way they built and added to a basic chip tune theme to make an orchestral finale is amazing.

Three Houses has very good music, as all Fire Emblems do. Unfortunately I can't stand much else from this one. Blue Lions route was enjoyable I guess, if not basic. I'll stick with FE3 through FE12 and FE15.
