Regarding the "good news" I mentioned in this video; I was so impressed by this, that I'll probably do a guitar cover / rendition of OWA on my next sub milestone! drinking is bad
You also know a boss means business when his ultimate attack smashes the two largest gas planets in our solar system, proceeds to obliberate the sun only to have the tiny terrestrial planets engulfed by His wave of rage
I particularly like the Advent Children version of this song. Cause I imagine they came to Nobuo Uematsu, and asked him, "What would be the best way to perform this song?" And he said, "Well, it simply must be done with a full orchestra, my heavy metal band, and live Gregorian chanting. Nothing less will do."
Btw, a lot of classic final fantasy songs have heavy metal covers done by Uematsu's band, The Black Mages. I cannot recommend them enough. They are a big part of my video game grinding playlist.
That's not far from what actually happened. Uematsu said he felt OWA needed a little something extra to really complete it, and as soon as he created the Metal arrangement, he knew that was the missing ingredient.
Uematsu always felt that OWA wasn’t fully finished even as far back as the OG PS1 game. When they asked him about doing Advent Children he made it a personal commitment to do the version of OWA he always felt the final battle should have sounded like.
Everyone who have ever fought Sephiroth will get the "oh f*ck" feeling when the first notes of One Winged Angel starts playing. Such an epic and ageless song.
@@livith9 FF7R Intergrade was my first ever Final Fantasy game, so this was me basically discovering something I didn't think it was possible with gaming, it was like playing a movie, since most of my life I always was a Nintendo guy and never had a Playstation. As I'm writing this I started replaying the game from the beginning in hard mode this time.
@@livith9 also right after this game I went and played the original last year also for the first time since I wanted to compare my experience with remake and the original, plus know what was coming after Midgar.
@@jovannydiazabad6123 Same I suppose haha, I’ve grown up with Nintendo games so that was what I played mostly. I saw a FF7 remake trailer and decided it would be the first final fantasy game I played. I loved it, played the original, then crisis core, and now I’m obsessed.
Ah, yes. The originator of the "Why do I hear boss music?" meme. In all seriousness, One Winged Angel is a legendary boss theme and I'm glad you listened to Advent and Rebirth. Rebirth is my personal favorite version of the song but Advent is no slouch! Hope you listen to more FF7 Remake tracks! That OST is ridiculous and will not disappoint! ❤🤘
I still love the simplicity of the original but I've never heard a version of it I didn't like either. The residents just brings you back to that PS1 time
The crazy part is when you realize that the speed with which you beat the boss determines on how you're playing, but the music still perfectly transitions seamlessly with each transition no matter how you play. Even in the original game for PSX, with it's midi soundtrack, Uematsu still recorded a choir for this song which was quite a surprise to hear during gameplay back then.
Probably explains why the last dungeon and boss are on its own disc. Cause I just took a listen to the og ps1 song and that choir audio is clear as fuck. I bet you most of that 3rd disc is just for the audio files for the sephiroths theme.
Also for context: Advent children is a film sequel to FF7, set two years after the climax. The whole Seprioth fight is perfectly timed to last the entire song. Sephiroth never appeared on-screen, let alone was fought on the part of the original game that Remake overlaps, and the fight with him takes place as the timeline is falling apart.
And they change the lyrics because circumstances are different on advent children but it is considered the ultimate boss music no matter where it is. Was also on video games live
@2BuckGeo aerith died, everyone else in the party made it out. as for remake, aerith knows that somethings up (shes communing with the lifestream in the intro) but its actually sephiroth thats actively altering events, since he seems to remember the events of the original
There's a reason everywhere Uematsu took his band (the black mages), the crowd would go absolutely WILD the moment the first sound of this song started playing. One Winged Angel is a bombastic operatic masterpiece and many would argue Uemetsu's best work, if for no other reason than how perfectly it played its role in the climax of what is also argued to be Square's best work. The way he composed the song is super interesting too and it's in a style he's only ever done for this song. Here's a 4min video where he talks about it: th-cam.com/video/9BzkrgVivk4/w-d-xo.html
@@pedropereira6888 wtf, Uemetsu is orchestrating with the one winged angels? He didn’t pass, no way I wouldn’t have heard about it if he had! You messing with us lol?
@@aeolussvichi7680 i mean he pretty much is. FF7R trilogy might be the last games he works on and Soken and Yoko will take the reigns of the FF series music from here on out probabily
@@aeolussvichi7680 not over yet 2 more remake games coming up. And if SE ends up remaking any of the other older games they'll call him up to at least assist with the music in making new tracks and remaking his old work
One of the coolest things about 7 remakes music is the way it is incorporated. They developed in the engine a sort of automated song transition. Especially in some areas, the area theme and battle theme transition so well that you think it's the same song, but its automated stuff.
As far as I understand, all you need for that to work pretty well is the ability to have both tracks playing at once, but with one muted. It's a lot of effort on the sound crew's part to actually provide the music for this, though, so huge props to them.
@@Qazqi I remember them discussing a game engine thing from an interview, apparently they put some development resources into it this time. I don't entirely remember how it worked, but I do vaguely remember it was something that required some programming, not just the sound team this time.
Kingdom Hearts does the same thing actually but Yoko Shimomura, the composer, deliberately makes field and battle music for the worlds and they transition very well.
Not a new stunt, but always a beautiful one, Metal Gear Rising does similar with its vocal tracks, and KH music tends to crossfade nicely in the field as well
@@shadowforge25 It was the Unreal Engine, which at the time natively had sound cues but nothing that would innately let them just play three tracks at different tempos and alter the sound levels on the fly based on what the character is doing. What they did was genius, and required programmers, sound engineers and the composer also. Just, awesome. Hopefully they release some basis of it upstream for other developers to take advantage of.
For those who may think that the music is disconnected and/or all over the place: IT'S NOT, it's intentional. The villain (Sepiroth) toys with the main character across the whole game, so the music reflects your battles across the whole game. It's a journey.
It may be the case that have only played the remake, therefore feel free to ignore the following very spoilery stuff from the OG - As much as I'd like to agree with you Sephiroth isn't antagonistic during thier journey. Cloud is often only dealing with inner demons (jenova cells etc), while the group chases after shades controlled by thier jenova cells, while sephiroth recuperates in north crator. Jenova was the antagonist mostly. It feels like sephiroth is playing with you because they build it up to look that way.
@@DontGiveUp_Skeleton No, the original commenter is correct. You’re right for the OG version but the remake is all about Sephiroth messing with the timeline and is more of a “sequel” than a remake tbh. So yes, Seph IS messing with everyone including the player.
It is objectively disconnected and all over the place, by design. Every segment but the first and the last were composed out of order. Uematsu would think of a melody, write it down, and carry on with his day, and only assembled them when he had all of them. That’s why the song has so many unique melodies that don’t repeat. I think it’s extremely impressive for such an objectively disconnected song to still flow so well, and for each individual part to be iconic on its own but more so as a whole.
@@lanhikari4930 Sure, but the song was designed for the original. It's not relevant what he's doing in the remake. It might be repurposed and it manages to fit, but we were talking about intention.
@@DontGiveUp_Skeleton Well considering this is basically a sequel to advent Children, I think this was more targeted towards the audience that already knows about FF7 and knows all the things Sephiroth did and will do. For the new players though all they have is a boss with a Epic song.
WHen Sephiroth's reveal for Smash bros was made, you could see people's face genuinly been amazed and entranced with the FIRST 3 notes of OWA. When you recognise a Boss by the 3 first notes of his Theme even 20 years later, you know its good
when you said you were gonna take a sip every time the song hit you, and i saw that you were doing Advent _and_ Rebirth, I was like "dude, you're gonna be chugging that thing by the end of the video"
The absolute genius of the FF7 Remake boss themes its that they usually come in three stages of remixes. One following a new structure but teasing us with leitmotifs from the original, one that pushes a little closer to the original to hype old fans up, and one once the final phase of the fight begins thats a full note for note remaster of the original track. It builds hype incredibly well for old fans while also surprising us with new stuff and I absolutely love it.
Oh man he has reacted to one of gaming history's most infamous music. The song is so iconic that when the first note of One winged Angel played in the Smash trailer, it sent the entire internet screaming. There are also tons of other versions of this song each with a different composition and tells a bit of a different story. Crisis Core's version (The World's Enemy) is heavily percussion and brass based, which makes sense since it is a prequel, the song is somewhat incomplete like the character. There are also the original MIDI version from FFVII, which spawn tons of orchestral covers. Sephiroth also appeared in Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 as a secret boss with two different remixes. Those songs are given an orchestral remix in Kingdom Hearts 1.5 and 2.5. The songs in that game is shorter but gives a heavy "oh no" vibes as you are facing one of the hardest bosses in the games. This song is just one of the most iconic in gaming history. The AC version is the composers vision combining metal, rock and orchestral music. He even formed his own band, The Black Mages, which does metal and rock remixes of final fantasy music. AC also tells the story of Sephiroth's evolution even after the original FFVII. The longest one you heard, Re:Birth combines several motifs together. The fight is spilt into four pieces. With the song initally sounding incomplete and building as Sephiroth decides to use like 10% of his power. As the fight ends it becomes frantic as the fight isn't just about winning it is about survival. The events of this fight was not in the original FFVII suggesting that something is off. It is amazing how the same song can be remixed to tell different stories, yet keep its epicness.
Fantastic reaction. You honor us gamers deeply with it. I have to admit, when you said, "I can't even imagine what you felt when you first saw or heard this." I teared up a little as my memories came back to the forefront. I played the original FF7. When this song (It was more basic, but still epic, with lyrics.) began to play... I knew it was the final fight. I knew I was going to beat this son of a gun for what he did. It was only the second song in any FF game I had played that actually had lyrics. That alone blew me away. It was an absolute changing point, I knew I would compare this fight and this song with all final boss battles and all final boss themes from therein.
As I was too poor as a kid to own a ps1, my first exposure to Final Fantasy was catching the original cut of Advent Children on cable tv as a teenager. As one would expect, I didn't understand shit, but was fascinated with the visuals and music. FFVII has since become my favorite videogame of all time.
"He just looked at him like "you're not gonna do shit!"" The way you said that had me ROLLING! HAHAHAHA!!! That does sum up Sephiroth quite well though, can't lie! And yes, this follows closely behind that last one you did from the remake, where they were driving down the road fighting giant robots lol The way this game moves from cinematic experiences directly into gameplay and back again, all with music of THIS caliber playing, makes the experience absolutely phenomenal. It's a constant adrenaline rush at the end, for like 15-20 mins of just engaged adrenaline! Believe it or not this was a remake of a turn based game, so the fact that can inject this much pure action into it while retaining a very similar feeling is crazy to me. But yes, you really should play it, it's only like a third of the overall story and the second part is likely years away still, but I have not felt as satisfied after the end of a game as I did with this one, maybe the ending of Shadowbringers from FFXIV, but the fact that the comparison is like "pure gold or pure gold" already says a lot lol Loved your reaction to these, was so fucking excited when I saw this pop up on my feed, would love to see a cover xD
One of the best parts in this score is att 15:45, this is when hi summones Metiore and starts counting down from 9 and if it gets to 0 its a instent game over, this bit induses stress like no othere iv experionsed and i se it everytime i watch letsplayes of it, ppl dont iven se Sephiroth counting down most of the time but you can se them geting realy stressed by this part and its all in the music. love it.
To give some credit: OWA was of course composed by Nobuo Uematsu, who also supervised and composed for the Advent Children soundtrack. For the AC version, the orchestrations were done by Kazuhiko Toyama and Shiro Hamaguchi and the band arrangements by Kenichiro Fukui who also played keyboards in The Black Mages with Uematsu. The Remake version was done by Yasunori Nishiki who's also the main composer of Octopath Traveler.
The crazy thing is that when you fight against him in the Remake, he will always attack the character you are currently playing as, even as you switch to another character. As someone puts it in a TH-cam comment: "He is not just after the characters, he is also after _you_ the player"
funfact: one of the best professional wrestler(arguably the best) in the world Kenny Omega use the soundtrack title as a name for his finisher. so far it is one of most protected move in professional history which is mean all these years it only been kick out once.
I hope you play these FFs one day man. If you are into games that is. The music mixed in with the combat is just…👌idk how square manages to pull it off every time, they got BANGERS
the only ones in the series to avoid are the XIII trilogy(you might enjoy lightnings return idk) and XV, the rest are very good, oh also dont play dirge of cerberus unless you dont mind like really shitty ps2 shooter gameplay and a cheesy ass story lol
If not playing them, sitting down to watch a gameplay movie (not just the cutscenes) will get you all the music, the story, the context without the extra confusion if u arent used to games like this. These are usually long games, though so these movies might be around 7 hours or so~ Although some folks might say XV and XIII trilogy are annoying or missing things in terms of gameplay or story gaps, I think they're really great candidates for gameplay movies
I've been a fan of FF7 and it's music for my entire life.. playing this game when I was 13 and having it remade and get this attention is a gift from the universe in my eyes. But I just want to say, it was an absolute JOY watching you react to this video. Thank you for your genuine self!
One Winged Angel. Potentially the most iconic song in all of video games. This song cemented my love for FF when i was just 8 years old (22 years ago) and still gives me chills everytime i listen to it. Advent Children is also one of my favorite movies of all time. Im so glad you got to experience this song finally!
I watched this when you first uploaded it, and now again, and what I love the most is what a gateway it became for you, from listening to this, to the soundtracks, old and new, to playing the games, old and new, to getting into the series, is absolutely amazing. Still one of my favourite reactions ever.
@@ImJustThatGamer22 "UK: November 14, 1997;" There is no way in hell I played it in 97, never mind getting to one winged angel. I didn't even know what FF was when it came out.
Not sure if anyone else has requested it, but from FF7 Remake again, I’d recommend “Those who fight further” also known as the “Airbuster theme” I believe
16:50-17:05 is the adhd hyper focusing LMAO (i have adhd as well so i feel it haha ) also at the end lmao "he just looked at him like you're not gonna do shiiiit" you hit the nail on the head...thats sephiroth lmao
Easily the two best themes to show off are this for its mastful orchestration and The Airbuster theme (also known as Those who Fight Further) for being the most metal song in the game. Hopefully the latter is coming soon?
Nostalgia talking, the original standard boss theme is my favourite, but hot damn they managed to surprise with the rejigging of each track. Who expected it to go full metal?
I love airbuster in the original but I can’t remember the remakes. I’ll have to go listen again. The original I would just leave on and listen to the battle theme or just the actually any theme and it would never get old, no matter what it was. Still doesnt
You'd love Alex Makoula's video analysis on this where he talks about how One Winged Angel was composed out of order and was built in a way where it was meant to be taken apart and reconstructed as needed. Nobuo Uematsu was heavily Influenced by Prog Rock during this period where he composed it. But it is VERY easy to re-arrange it depending on the needs of the situation. Another Recommendation on channels to check out: Phil Heartshorn, A Film Maker Reacts. He breaks down the cinematic language used in this fight, and several other major scenes. Also... Another FF music suggestion if you loved this... All 4 Movements of Dancing Mad from FF6. FF14 does all 4 movements during the Omega Raids. Up to you if you want the 16 bit or modern version of Dancing Mad.
Oh! You remind me, I enjoy so much the Alex Makoula video about The Airbuster battle music from FF7R, his level of expertise is impressive, I would have to see it again such a good video. But haven't seen the Phil Heartshorn one, sounds interesting, I'm gonna check it right now, thanks for the recommendation.
Words can't express how much I love One Winged Angel it's honestly my favorite final boss theme EVER! Seeing your first reaction to these two versions of it is priceless. BTW this was my first video I watched on your channel and it's the reason I became I subscriber.
This song is so good in any of its renditions imo. Originally, I wasn't interested in a remake of FF7. Ultimately, it was the combat and knowing a spoiler for a 24-25 year old game that had me try it, and I freaking loved every bit of it. There's an FF7R orchestra that's about to start touring, and I'll be going to that. I'll probably cry too lol.
There's a theme called Valkyrie. When you watch the video it doesn't hit that hard & wouldn't probably impress you. But trust me, holding the controller & controlling the characters during that fight while listening to that music was absolutely breathtaking.
Your reaction to this cracked me up. Just. Perfect. You are bringing up alot of memories for me. FF7 was the only game I played for a long time when it first came out. Still one of my favorite songs. I remember the first time fighting Sephiroth is his final form ( yeah yeah, they don't show that just yet. That was in original game lol) I had...72 hrs in. My cousin decided he wanted to play and saved over...over my gameplay...Love my cousin. O.o And that beautiful lady you see there is Shiva. She is as much a staple of the FF series as Ifrit is so you can see them throughout. Sorry for going on like this. Just having so much fun watching your reaction. Love your reactions.
I literally love your reaction, my first reaction to the 8 bit version in 1997 broke me. Everytime it evolves it gets my heart pounding. I became a musician because of how creative this theme is. Remake solidified my whole understanding, I was a kid when I first heard this, but was a man when I heard rebirth. The emotions, were all over the place to say the least!
That was amazing, I'm glad you enjoyed it that much. This is one of those "all-time greats" as far as video game music is concerned. The remake version, believe it or not, is even crazier in the game because of the way it changes and transitions dynamically over the course of the fight. It's insane.
Your content is so much better than all these "musician reacts to music" videos because you just listen to it like a damn normal person (who happens to also be a musician) without constantly having input about music theory and shit. Some is fine but those other videos makes me even doubt they enjoy music.
When people talk about the greatest villain track in Final Fantasy history, either One Winged Angel or Dancing Mad from FFVI are the ones that are almost always number one. But Dancing Mad has movements, whereas One Winged Angel is just one piece. Hopefully you can do Dancing Mad at some point, though that will be trickier since some videos break it down into its movements and don't play the full song. And yes, the original version is just as wild, though limited by PlayStation 1's technical limitations and the unfamiliarity with the system (7 was supposed to be on the N64 but SE moved production to the stronger PS1 midway through production). Highly recommended.
Just an fyi, the n64 is the more powerful system. What the PSX had going for it was two things. One is discs, which had much greater storage capacity and were cheaper to produce (so less licensing fees) and two, the system was easier system to develop games on. But there’s a lot of work physics and such that the n64 could do that the ps1 simply couldn’t, it was just that it was hard to extract that from the system if you weren’t, well, Nintendo (or a company that was closely associated with Nintendo, such as Rare). This was also even more true of the Sega Saturn, it was technically more powerful than the PS1 but the architecture was so disjointed that it was very difficult to develop games for it, which ended up effectively making the PS1 better overall than t the Saturn. The fifth generation was wild.
One Winged Angel is such a legendary and iconic boss theme that Sephiroth's reveal trailer for Smash Bros Ultimate is structured in a way that you'll know it's him literally just from hearing the first two notes of the theme
I know this is 2 years old but I loved your reaction to this. All forms of this song are amazing, even the version from the ps1 game. I had that song on every mp3 player, ipod, or phone I've ever had since I was a kid and some people used to laugh at me having this crazy song and trying to play it at party's. It was rare when I got someome on board, so it brings me great joy to see the game get a revamp and the soundtrack for the game (in all of their renditions) get the attention it deserved in 1997.
I hope highlights/reactions to the game on Twitch stream come to TH-cam, it's always fun seeing people react to the beauty of this title. I'd love to see you reacting to the music in the context of the surroundings and such. The music also has a few "spoilers" here and there sprinkled throughout, which some have already pointed out in the JENOVA theme, but there are a few little hidden gems and foreshadows in other tracks as well, and picking up on those while playing the Remake sent chills down my spine. Nostalgia, and foreboding. Tadayoshi et al have an extremely good grasp on how to pull new people in with the sheer scale of the music, and how to pluck and twist the heartstrings of returning fans. I really can't wait to see how they continue or excel beyond this soundtrack in the future installments.
Thanks for reacting to FFVII, it's the music of my childhood, I still listen to it, it has a certain feel to it, it's more than just music to me, happy you liked it.
Congrats on becoming one of us Jesse! Video Game music is such an epic experience when combined with gameplay and the visuals. Last week the new Game Elden Ring by From Software the developer of Dark/Demon Souls was in beta. And boy the new Theme Soundtrack was amazingly Epic!
Just found you for the first time now, very happy to see you reacting to One Winged Angel. Probably my absolute favorite peace of music that exists! For sure in my top 3 at the minimum! I first heard OWA (a version of it) in Kingdom Hearts 1. Sephiroth is a secret Boss fight. The most difficult in the game. So, as a 7 year old kid in 2002, this level of difficulty combined with the amazing song, and the superb feeling of accomplishment(a high I’ve been chasing ever since) definitely influenced all future comparisons of difficulty and musical comparisons I come across in life. I always compare a Villain’s vibe and badassery WITH Sephiroth lol A really difficult boss fight: “Ahh, so this is the Sephiroth of this Game.” And really badass villain in a movie or show: “ahh, so this is the Sephiroth of this movie.” Glad you listened to it man! ^__^ You got my subscribe.
I think you were another youtuber, but seeing you enjoying the first couple minutes make me stay, I love your reaction so much, haha don't worry about your faces through the video, we all are you while listening to that masterpieces for the first time, Nobuo Uematsu it's a legend and a genius. And yes! You should totally play this game (and the classic if you haven't and have the time). A second favorite from this Remake is the boss battle music "The Airbuster".
The Advent Children version of JENOVA absolutely slaps. I'd heartily suggest listening to the Advent Children version and then the Remake version just as you've done with One Winged Angel
Yesss ffvii is my fave after ffxiv and one of the reasons is definitely the OST. One winged angel is that iconic theme that just stays with you for life xD and every single version just hits the spot every time! Also so cool to see you mention Trivium, probably my all time fave band overall and major influence over my overal musical taste x]
One-Winged Angel Advent is one of my favorite songs on this planet. I've been listening to it since this movie came out and I literally never get tired of it. The original song was so damn good and then the film introduces THIS and just makes it better, specifically by adding in the rock and metal elements that were absent from the OG version. And then Remake comes along with Rebirth and finds new and exciting ways to blow me away. This song is continually a part of my life and I love it so much. The interesting lore of One-Winged Angel is that it was initially composed by Nobuo Uematsu struggling greatly to make the song sound as he wanted it to. He ultimately started writing extremely short moments, and then rearranged them in different orders until the song started to come together. For Advent Children he added in metal (from his former rock band, The Black Mages). For Rebirth, new arrangers very clearly took aspects of the original composition and added in new elements. The result is a chaotic, turbulent, and explosive piece.
I always feel Rebirth is by far the better of the two, it is way more faithful to the Original while adding new elements and of course being able to actually PLAY while listening to that masterpiece man......just perfection
Submit to the glory of Nobuo Uematsu! One Winged Angel is literally the first Final Fantasy song I ever heard and it was so great I got curious enough to look up what game it was from and play it. Have been a Final Fantasy fan ever since!
The heroic moment with the horns in the chaos at 16:49 is always my favorite moment in the whole song. The entire time its tense and its that one ray of hope against the darkness. But seriously. watch Advent Children, its probably the best Video Game movie of all time. The Tifa fight scene in that movie is great, hell, the whole movies is great. If you want another serious banger from FF7 Remake, listen to the Airbuster theme. its bonkers. Although my personal favorite song from Remake is the Ghoul Boss theme. :D (Whole thing is on Spotify)
They took a masterpiece and made it an even greater masterpiece. (Sure, I'm a sucker for chorals, horns and timpani, but this is objectively superlative music). And was seriously terrifying in-game.
If this is way too long, I’m sorry but you have a fan of the game and the music in general. Forgive the gushing of words and emotions. Lol I played the OG FF7 and was just amazed when I heard One-Winged Angel for the first time. The drums had me going what the heck is this and then the final battle with an actual choir singing behind him showing how intimidating he was. I knew Sephiroth was going to become something huge when I first saw him in the game manual before I started the game. Little did I know he would become one if not my all time FAVORITE villain in gaming history and how much of an impact that theme would be. FF7’s music is amazing though out. And for the people that say the boss was easy, I did it with NO Knights of the Round, Final Attack-Phoenix combo, 2x Cut, ANY W-materia, master materia AND the kicker, no destruct materia that breaks his wall he puts up. I say I was level 40 or so when I did it and it can be challenging. And this was my first time going against him too! Advent Children is a great movie visually and the music is fantastic but the story is a little lacking if you don’t know the lore behind it. Definitely recommend the Complete edition if anyone wants to see the movie. It’s 15 more minutes of footage and tweeked scenes and music which I honestly think makes it better. Advent: One Winged Angel was just a roller coaster of music and I loved it! The Remake is a masterpiece and the music and gameplay is top notch except for aerial combat (little gripe). I had to pause the game MULTIPLE times to hear the music alone. Especially with J-E-N-O-V-A Awakening and OWA rebirth. These to tracks alone MAKE their fights so amazing. If you haven’t heard and seen Jenova’s battle and music, go see it. Ok end of gushing lol. Long time FF7 fan girl trash right here 😂
The AC one is my favorite soundtrack out of the whole FF series, its so insanely good. I hope if FFXIV ever does a FFVII Raid that the AC version plays Im really excited for you covering it
Loving these reactions so far, keep it up man! As far as I can tell, there is one version of OWA left, the Crisis Core one. Coincidentally, the game got a remaster less than a month ago. The song is called "The world's enemy" btw.
The final fight is one of the most epic things i have seen in decades, its one of the reasons why i'm playing through the game now, becouse it WILL be so damn epic! And the song makes it into a expirience that as u said" everyone will want to play it themselves" and gods its worth it!
Saw this played live....your whole body was amped and the feeling was imaginable. I felt it in my bones, all the instruments. It felt like you had to breathe afterward, my heart was racing. I wil Never forget that feeling. The choir made the chanting feel angelic. I cant say enough how much I recommend people to go see the orchestra live. You will never forget it!
Sephiroth, the One Winged Angel!!! One of the most well known pieces of Video Game music ever, if not THE most well known. Can't help but get the chills!
YES it's awesome when you play and hear it together. If you want to get more pumped. Play on Hard Mode and it's the best feeling knowing you beat him on that mode with the music playing in the background. EPIC!!!
After watching this and the Airbuster reaction, I'm straight off to watch your playthroughs of the game. Love your enthusiasm, can't wait to see what you think of the games (and the rest of this stellar OST!)
Amazing reaction to probably the best ost track a video game has ever had, When you think of Final Fantasy or even JRPG's as a whole and their music this is nearly always the first track that comes to mind. And the absolute crazy part is that it is just one in the sea of gems that is the ost for this game. From the same OST my suggestions would be the JENOVA Dreamweaver Boss which I personally hold on an equal level to One Winged Angel or Aerith's Theme which is the track that made me fall in love with the game and it's world, although a much more chill song.
@@JessesAuditorium If you have a PS4 I'd recomend starting with the FF7 remake (yes others in the comments, i know its not 100% remake). It will make you want to play the original game + it will give you some context that maybe the original game with its old graphic and turnbased graphics may not when starting to play.
I'd recommend him to play NieR automata first...but from an enjoyment perspective that's not a good idea. I recommend it first because it's the better of the 2 games for sure, but that's also kinda why you shouldn't start with it. Depends on if you wanna start at the peak or build up to it I guess.
@@renehoyvik The story for the original has aged well, the graphics... less so. But the mix of using 3D modeled characters (by the standards of the 90s) and 2D backgrounds served them well for the rest of the PS1's run.
It's been Years since I've heard this song (didn't play the remaster), Advance Children was not the best animated movie Square did, but man this song is still engraved in my mind, and the chills when I listened to it in this video. Glad you likes it, and thanks for making me listen to it again !
this song is so iconic that someone has made compilation videos of streamers reacting to the Rebirth version playing ingame, and true fans recognised Sephiroth as a character in Smash Bros only on that first note of One Winged Angel (including me... i may or may not have screamed when i heard the song in his trailer haha)
Regarding the "good news" I mentioned in this video;
I was so impressed by this, that I'll probably do a guitar cover / rendition of OWA on my next sub milestone!
drinking is bad
Funny thing about this song, Nobuo Uematsu accidentally constructed the original one wing angel in reverse
I can't wait! Absolute classic
do airbuster too it suits perfect electric guitar
good luck!
Fun fact! The lyrics that you can hear in OWA are in Latin.
You know a boss means business when the choir kicks in chanting his name.
Like the final boss of Blue Dragon
Facts. Chanting In a different language than the rest of the game at that…
You know shit is coming when your boss has an entrance as loud as that
You also know a boss means business when his ultimate attack smashes the two largest gas planets in our solar system, proceeds to obliberate the sun only to have the tiny terrestrial planets engulfed by His wave of rage
True
@@Neo-Midgar Excellent.
Uematsu always felt that OWA wasn’t fully finished even as far back as the OG PS1 game. When they asked him about doing Advent Children he made it a personal commitment to do the version of OWA he always felt the final battle should have sounded like.
God damn right. xD
Everyone who have ever fought Sephiroth will get the "oh f*ck" feeling when the first notes of One Winged Angel starts playing. Such an epic and ageless song.

Nobuo Uematsu claims that his aim for the original One Winged Angel composition was Igor Stravinsky meets Jimi Hendrix.
What a madman, I like the cut of his jib.
Just goes to show how creative Nobuo is. There's a reason he's been making music for the franchise for so long.
Nearly all orchestral soundtracks are in some way inspired by The Rite of Spring, it's amazing.

The residents just brings you back to that PS1 time
@@Alexanderthegreat159 Also Crisis Core version is very good imo, especially the introduction.
My personal favorite version is the Crisis Core one, but it's good in just about every version
its good but kujas theme in ff9 tho
"He just looked at him like 'you're not gonna do shit'!" Is the best and most accurate reaction to Sephiroth.
I was literally at peace with my whole life for a few solid hours after my experience with the Sephiroth fight in FF7R, that shit does things to you.
dude and then “hollow” in the credits? i had zero problems to deal with the rest of the day after that.
Seriously it does. You finish that fight and the calm and exhaustion after is beyond belief.
The meta concept of the story where the game is playing you as much as you are playing the game was next level.
@@nTrylo and people will claim the game lacks creativity
The crazy part is when you realize that the speed with which you beat the boss determines on how you're playing, but the music still perfectly transitions seamlessly with each transition no matter how you play.
Even in the original game for PSX, with it's midi soundtrack, Uematsu still recorded a choir for this song which was quite a surprise to hear during gameplay back then.
Probably explains why the last dungeon and boss are on its own disc. Cause I just took a listen to the og ps1 song and that choir audio is clear as fuck. I bet you most of that 3rd disc is just for the audio files for the sephiroths theme.
Also for context:
Advent children is a film sequel to FF7, set two years after the climax.
I thought everyone died at the end of FF7 original ps1 game? And in ff7 remake Aerith is trying to change this?
@2BuckGeo aerith died, everyone else in the party made it out. as for remake, aerith knows that somethings up (shes communing with the lifestream in the intro) but its actually sephiroth thats actively altering events, since he seems to remember the events of the original
@@2BuckGeothey all died, and the last one standing is Red XIII showing to us Midgard after 500 years
There's a reason everywhere Uematsu took his band (the black mages), the crowd would go absolutely WILD the moment the first sound of this song started playing.

It may be the case that have only played the remake, therefore feel free to ignore the following very spoilery stuff from the OG -
As much as I'd like to agree with you Sephiroth isn't antagonistic during thier journey.
When you recognise a Boss by the 3 first notes of his Theme even 20 years later, you know its good
There was so much screaming😂😅
when you said you were gonna take a sip every time the song hit you, and i saw that you were doing Advent _and_ Rebirth, I was like "dude, you're gonna be chugging that thing by the end of the video"
SQE never disappointed me with their CGI and music.
Honestly. Like they have NEVER. That’s how you know the company is goated.
Seriously, SQE may not exactly always push out the best games but you KNOW the cgi and music will always be top notch.
Sephiroths theme is literally the definition of brace yourself for death or the fight of the lifetime
"You're not gonna do shit..."
It's really hard to make a boss battle where you're supose to win but the boss still feel untouchable ^^
This is the quintessential BOSS music
The absolute genius of the FF7 Remake boss themes its that they usually come in three stages of remixes. One following a new structure but teasing us with leitmotifs from the original, one that pushes a little closer to the original to hype old fans up, and one once the final phase of the fight begins thats a full note for note remaster of the original track.
It builds hype incredibly well for old fans while also surprising us with new stuff and I absolutely love it.
The way the Rebirth song plays with the original is just so amazing to a longtime fan.
Infamous?
I legit almost had a heart attack.
"He just look at him like your not gonna do sh*t"
Yeup... basically. LOL
"He just looked at him like "you're not gonna do shit!""
The way you said that had me ROLLING!
But yes, you really should play it, it's only like a third of the overall story and the second part is likely years away still, but I have not felt as satisfied after the end of a game as I did with this one, maybe the ending of Shadowbringers from FFXIV, but the fact that the comparison is like "pure gold or pure gold" already says a lot lol
Loved your reaction to these, was so fucking excited when I saw this pop up on my feed, would love to see a cover xD
14:35 "Literally, oh my God!"
Sephiroth: "Close enough"
One of the best parts in this score is att 15:45, this is when hi summones Metiore and starts counting down from 9 and if it gets to 0 its a instent game over, this bit induses stress like no othere iv experionsed and i se it everytime i watch letsplayes of it, ppl dont iven se Sephiroth counting down most of the time but you can se them geting realy stressed by this part and its all in the music. love it.
Cause this is the more DESPERATE moment of the fight brothat. 😅
Advent children had some really killer arrangements of the classic songs.
Nice. I always wondered if this was what he named his finisher after. Figured it was just a coincidence
@ 5:12 was when Jesse knew he f*cked up.. You can see in his face he was like why didn't i listen to this before
I hope you play these FFs one day man.
These are usually long games, though so these movies might be around 7 hours or so~
Although some folks might say XV and XIII trilogy are annoying or missing things in terms of gameplay or story gaps, I think they're really great candidates for gameplay movies

There is no way in hell I played it in 97, never mind getting to one winged angel. I didn't even know what FF was when it came out.
Not sure if anyone else has requested it, but from FF7 Remake again, I’d recommend “Those who fight further” also known as the “Airbuster theme” I believe

also at the end lmao "he just looked at him like you're not gonna do shiiiit" you hit the nail on the head...thats sephiroth lmao
Easily the two best themes to show off are this for its mastful orchestration and The Airbuster theme (also known as Those who Fight Further) for being the most metal song in the game. Hopefully the latter is coming soon?
We need Airbuster now!

Valkyrie was awesome!! Also when you fight Abzu!
Your reaction to this cracked me up. Just. Perfect. You are bringing up alot of memories for me. FF7 was the only game I played for a long time when it first came out. Still one of my favorite songs.
Elden ring: we make the best orchestral music for bosses
Square Enix: hold my beer
After this fight, having not played the original FF7, I understood why Sephiroth deserved to be in Smash.
I can picture Cloud's battle with Sephiroth from Advent Children in my head as this plays.
One Winged Angel is such a legendary and iconic boss theme that Sephiroth's reveal trailer for Smash Bros Ultimate is structured in a way that you'll know it's him literally just from hearing the first two notes of the theme
And there it is, probably the most iconic boss theme in video games. That's the real good shit.
Great reaction dude! Final Fantasy music never disappoints
The part where the music lifts and becomes more hopeful as you get his health low... god tier.
My favorite part was right before that. When YOUR health was low and his still the same. The despair mah friend, the DESPAIR! 😅😅😅
Bombing mission is coming tonight!!
I always compare a Villain’s vibe and badassery WITH Sephiroth lol A really difficult boss fight: “Ahh, so this is the Sephiroth of this Game.” And really badass villain in a movie or show: “ahh, so this is the Sephiroth of this movie.”
Glad you listened to it man! ^__^

And yes! You should totally play this game (and the classic if you haven't and have the time).
A second favorite from this Remake is the boss battle music "The Airbuster".
I've only had this channel. But cool!
The Advent Children version of JENOVA absolutely slaps.
I'd heartily suggest listening to the Advent Children version and then the Remake version just as you've done with One Winged Angel
Any version of JENOVA slaps
Yesss ffvii is my fave after ffxiv and one of the reasons is definitely the OST. One winged angel is that iconic theme that just stays with you for life xD and every single version just hits the spot every time!
Also so cool to see you mention Trivium, probably my all time fave band overall and major influence over my overal musical taste x]
I love how invested you got in everything. By the end you were willing the battle to carry on xD
I just witnessed a new fan being born. This has been an honor and a great pleasure. Welcome to the fandom. XD You're never too late to join.
Submit to the glory of Nobuo Uematsu! One Winged Angel is literally the first Final Fantasy song I ever heard and it was so great I got curious enough to look up what game it was from and play it. Have been a Final Fantasy fan ever since!
Oh god! One Winged Angel! This one is a master piece!
The entire franchise is a treasure trove for good music.
The one winged angel theme just makes fighting sephiroth more epic! :D
They took a masterpiece and made it an even greater masterpiece. (Sure, I'm a sucker for chorals, horns and timpani, but this is objectively superlative music). And was seriously terrifying in-game.
Also, the choreography between the gameplay and music. Perfection.
this music really does convey without words that the man you are fighting is an actual fucking god, with a theme song as gorgeous and insane as he is
18:30 Yep, that's the look. Welcome to the world of Final Fantasy
If this is way too long, I’m sorry but you have a fan of the game and the music in general. Forgive the gushing of words and emotions. Lol
I played the OG FF7 and was just amazed when I heard One-Winged Angel for the first time.
I hope if FFXIV ever does a FFVII Raid that the AC version plays
Im really excited for you covering it
OMG FOR REAL. Waiting patiently for Yoshi-P to deliver a massive FFVII crossover like with the Eden raids and FFVIII
I would be wearing Cloud's AC outfit for it when he does :3
Maybe after endwalker... Hmm the mystery :3
There’s something about the AC version that just hits so different I love that theme so so much.
God I love the Advent Children version so much, I’m glad this is the one you reacted to!
Jesse: I will play FF7.

Ace combat 7 players: surprised_jet.jpg
You never what's gonna happen :D
@@JessesAuditorium If you like this track I Suggest The Almighty from Persona 4
