yes, the legs were having the oven stand proud of the coals in the fireplaces. Not so handy in the bush. The dome can be used as a storage for steam or it can be dried with higher temperatures to make a cavity of hot dry air.
To me; learning about how heat transfers; top vs bottom coals; why flat vs dome; why legs vs no legs These are things that are interesting. You touched upon the lid notch in several videos about steam vs baking.
