Ron that came up a treat, so great to see you out and about, the caravan looks perfect for your work, did you design it as the layout to me doesn't look like a factory deal. Good to see you and your partner out there showing us how its done. I am working up at Torbanlea and I see you did a show up that way when my swing ended so I missed you on this round trip. Cheers Garry and Davina
As promised, I did this recipe on Saturday night, followed it pretty closely and ended up with a real winner. Definitely the dates made the difference considering I used twice as much Guinness. Great to see you back. 👍🏻🇦🇺
Id recommend twice as much guiness, mine was good but needed more for sure.
The Makita is the 21century Blacksmiths bellows 😉
😅
Loved that Kraft BS & Onions . Especially in a jaffle iron over coals . Would take 3 layers of skin off the roof of your mouth if you weren't careful 😂 A good splash of Worchester sauce = 1/4 bottle 😂 Thanks for the recipe , definitely going to give it a crack .
Cheers
Brought back the memories mate.Used to have a tin on toast when I got home from school. It was the Kraft one I think.Wasn’t as meaty or tasty as yours but I’m sure.Keep up the great work mate 👍🍺
Yeah Kraft from what I remember. And awesome on toast.
Just tried this with a new supposedly pre-seasoned camp oven on a gas BBQ - Wow!!! bottom of the pot is now like glass. Can't wait to start cooking in it 👍
Yeah mate, the pre seasoned thing is designed to stop it rusting before it sells and leaves the shop. After that they couldnt care less. You shouild always season a new one and ignore the preseason coat. Cheers
I thought everything was about to get real then... Hahaha looks good mate!
I've just cooked this recipe I'm not sure how Kingbrowns tastes like But this is absolutely divine. Well done mate I hope I've done it justice.
Yeah its pretty good. glad you liked it. cheers
Third time watching this, it’s happening this weekend, some King Brown bread rolls and we’re set. Did I mention Guiness entries? 👍🏻🇦🇺
@@johnhegarty5194 I'm jealous.
Great once again - in the US corn flour and corn starch is actually made with corn! Potato starch is my new favourite.
@markhiggins3054 ahh, I didn't know that. Cheers
@@campovenking doesn’t leave that floury taste like our Aussie one does.
Ron I can almost smell and taste your Braised Steak n Onions through my phone! 😋😋😋 Great video, thanks. I'm hungry now. 🤣🤣🤣
@@petermcmurtrie haha mission accomplished 😄
Mate love the videos, keep em coming!! Where can I get a lid lifter?
@@timburary lid lifters are available at www.campovenkitchen.com.au
@campovenking thank you very much. I really enjoy my camp oven cooking, but mate, you have helped me take it another level. Thanks again and keep these awesome videos coming please King Brown. KB for PM!!
@@timburary 🤣👍
So happy that Martina shows in the video. Expecting more videos with her. Take care the two of you, miss you guys. xoxo
@maryjanicecajote9268 yeah she's doing a great job filming but runs away when I point the camera at her haha
So ya like a bit o cornbeef with ya sugar hey m8 lol
haha, its just a marinade, it dissolves and caramalises witht he fat and doesnt taste sweet at all.
King Brown for PM
🤣
By Jeez that came up well Ron. Great advice. Thanks mate.
Pretty sure the sacrificial anode would be the oven itself 😊
What a brilliant result.
Hey Ron, You see a lot of people sanding the inside of there cast iron smooth with sand paper before seasoning. Is there any advantage to that as far as a slicker surface after seasoning? And does it help with the non stick surface for cooking on? Great series of videos on restoration and seasoning.
Smelt it from here 😁 WA that is 😂
Great clip mate! Great to see! no BS, just getting straight into it! An absolute pro mate, well done! Came up a beaut! 👍👏
Hi Ron, I have a 15 inch and an18 inch to do, unfortunately I don’t have an oven big enough, can you do the seasoning in the open over a fire ? Cheers Peter
All my ovens were done over the fire years ago. A hot fire and mutton fat actually. I will do one on a video later in the year when I get a chance. Cheers
You're the King
Some really good tips there Ron. I saw one vid that said to go to 480f for an hour, then turn the oven off and repeat it the following day fo four days. Seemed a little to involved for my liking but seemed to work.
lol, I reckon that would just burn off the oil completely if you actually did it that way. I can do an oven an hour and with my new electrolysis set up I can go from rusty to fully seasoned in 6 hours
Great series of restoration videos. 👍 Kmart / Coles / Woolies / Spotlight etc have refillable oil sprayers. Work well and way more cost effective and you can add your preferred oil type.
Yeah thats a good idea actually.
As my old man used to say, "looks just like a bought one!"
That looks awesome mate
Very nice it came up perfect. I have one just as rusty and will be following your advice to bring it back. Cheers Steve.
400 d F or C?
450 celcius is the target temperature
@@campovenking 450 Celsius? I think you mean Fahrenheit. Very few ovens go to that Ron. Most kitchen ovens max out at 250c which is 482f
@Philipk65 I meant celcius and always thought it was. Now I'm not so sure lol. I will check on the oven. 250 c doesn't sound hot enough as you can cook food at that temp.
@@campovenking I did 250c on my Weber and I felt that through the welding gloves. By the way 480f is 250c.
@@campovenking I do believe that pizza ovens can get near that hot though.
Instead of the Vegemite, try bonox, best stuff for beef stew or jerky.
ive heard that, but I eat vegemite so its always in the tucker box. I wouldnt know what to do with bonox lol
@@campovenking try it you won't regret it
Hi Ron when I last spoke to you about the rusty oven I sent the pictures of it to you ,a little while back you said that you were going to do a video on electrolysis glad you got around to doing this video I should have sent you mine to you for the video the one you used was in heaps better condition than mine it would be interesting to see how it would look after being in your set up might have to check a few things out on mine thanks for the video cheers mate
@spiked4000 I've since done a really rusty one. I will be posting the results here soon. Yeah and I remember you asking about it and I knew at the time those video was about to happen. Thanks for the follow and comments. Cheers
Looks so good I can’t believe how well it came up
That was the kraft brand, you can get the tom piper brand still it's not too bad, good in the jaffle irons over the coals for an easy quick meal after driving and camping.
Yeah Kraft
Ron, I’ve been using blade/oyster blade for 30yrs in camp ovens, reckon it’s the only way to go. Nice work mate, goes well with a soft damper too!
Cheers
So, when does 'Rons camp oven restoration services' have their grand opening? 😂
haha, my average wait time is about 3 years, id recommend someone else over me
Definitely do it in a well ventilated area. The gas bubbles being released are hydrogen which can cause quite a bang if ignited. ( yes I tried with a bbq lighter ) 1 tablespoon of washing soda for every 3 to 4 litres of water for those making a smaller setup.
cheers
The electrolysis looks like it worked great on the camp oven. Certainly beats other methods.
Yeah I gave up on the other methods years ago. Electrolysis is just too easy and too effective even whenI was using an old arlec charger.
Absolutely bloody OUTSTANDING!!!!!! Thanks Ron.
Bugger! I've had a very old 12 volt, 4 amp power supply for years. Would you believe I gave it away 3 months ago because I couldn't think of a use for it.
Bad move Brad but I sympathise; I gave my old charger to a friend when I bought a ‘better’ one. I hate the bloody thing, too smart for its own good. A trick I’ve learned is when trying to charge a totally flat battery you can connect a 9v to the chargers leads when they’re attached to the battery and it will fool the charger into starting to charge.
@glenbaker4024 Hehe. I have a 'Kickass' brand 22 amp smart charger. It's pretty good. Does lead acid, AGM, and Lithium. It has a setting to reset LiPos when drop into safe mode, I'm yet to test completely dead regular battery though.
@@BradGryphonn If it’s anything like mine it’ll just sit there and look at you and be completely unresponsive. Just realised I’m describing my wife and the charger; I wonder if I hooked her up to a battery if she’d liven up a bit.
@@glenbaker4024 🤣🤣🤣
haha aint that the way of it. And I spent two years trying to find one after I lost mine. But no regrets now, this power supply unit is sooo much better than the old arlec.
You turn current to high, then adjust your voltage. Watch when the oven starts to see bubbles are coming off. If it does not, just leave the voltage knob too high. The power supply should have temperature safety protection. It will switch if it is too high. It will start again when cooled down.
What’s the best voltage and amperage for this type of electrolysis?
Thaks for that. Yeah nosign of heat anywhere, its running real smooth. Im very impressed
Just finished watching and commenting on the Guinness stew (I too love a Guinness or 3) and this was in my sub feed. Excellent!
I will have part 3 coming out too, im filming now and will put it up when I can. Probably tomorrow
@@campovenking I'll shoot a short video of how neglected my cheap Chinese one is. Suffice to say, it's thick and gungy red/orange.
I'm staying with a mate out the back of Yandina at the moment, and I'm the chief cook. I'll be slapping this together next week when I get some dates.
Power supply, the current control knob. What it is, you can not control current. It's a current limiter. So you're building an electronic circuit, and you're at the stage to hook up to power. You turn the current down, so if there is a fault, it will not be able to travel through killing a lot more of the circuit. Just fault area.
Thanks for that. I will make sure I follow that procedure. I did start with everything off and wound them on as that was how I was shown to do it but I didnt know why. Cheers
Definitely going to give it try - better than can of tom piper! Love watching your live shows when you roll into town Ron. Does Martina have any special filipino dishes cooked in the camp oven? Would she do a camp oven cook video?
Yeah she has done steamed cabbage rolls and a few pork belly recipes as well. We will do a couple when we get a moment. Cheers
Looking forward to seeing you work on those mate. I have an old oven I dug up on the farm. It’s in remarkable condition considering it was probably buried for decades. A citric acid bath and a re season bought it back to life and I’ve been using it for more than 30 years.
Look forward to the next clip mate
I think it is a Cannon camp oven now, not an ETNA. I found a similar lid in my stash and its a Cannon lid and is very similar.
First off, it's great to see your ugly mug again, mate. Second, I was looking at my seriously rusty camp oven a few days back and thought of you, and was wondering how you were going. And third (because I paused at the mud part), yes, flood mud permeates everything, and you never forget the smell. Anyway, good to see you mate. I'll go back to watching.
haha cheers mate. Stay tuned, Derusting video coming up this weekend too
Great recipe King Brown thanks for sharing with us.
Another good cook up for those cold winter nights, keep the cooking clips coming Ron
Cheers mate. Gunna be busy for a couple of weeks doing shows, but I will see what I can do. Id like to get a chance to do one of my bread recipes actually. But bloody wet and cold here at the moment lol. I have some restoration videos ready to go so they will probably be next.
@@campovenkingI don't mind the resto clips either and your bread and bread rolls are great, at least you have a good camera operator and taste tester 😀
@@Joshhatch83 Yeah she loves the tasting bit lol. And she is doing a good job on the camera too so thats good.
