Floodzilla

  • In Febuary 2022 a massive flood that beat all known records by 2.5 meters hit the Richmond River in Northern NSW destroying all in its path. 3 weeks later the second biggest flood in history hit the same river.
For the survivors, life has changed for ever. It took more than houses and buildings, it took homes, toys, paintings, photographs, books, childhood mementos and family heirlooms. Not to mention the whole communities that are now gone, the schools, the people and the trust in nature have all gone. Some are healing more than others, all are trying, but none will forget.

Hi Ron. I am so sorry you had this happen to you too. I live in the Northern Rivers and helped lots of people move their belongings out of their homes and help move mud last year. Weeks and weeks of very much sadness. I’m lucky I live in Terranora. Higher ground near Tweed Heads.
Never knew you lived near here also. I bought your book plus some other items at a camping show in Brisbane a few years ago. Wishing you well mate. Words cannot truly express how you’re feeling and not anyone as lucky as me can truly understand. Thoughts with you King Brown. Ron Wilson.
PS. Please get some strength to look after your camp oven collection. Some of those especially the Furfys are priceless 🤗

Hi Ron. Ive just watched Floodzilla and my heart is braking for what youve gone through. To lose everything? I cant imagine what you went through. My Mum’s family are from Lismore, Coreki, Woodburn Broadwater, Casino and all around those areas. So bloody devastating. Im so so sorry that this happened to you. Cheers mate.

Bloody terrible. Vic and SA copped it this summer.
You should hold camp oven restoration classes, every student gets to clean one of your ovens!

That was devastating to see. I travelled to Queensland in January and detoured via some of the flood effected towns and it was sad to see businesses in Woodburn and Broadwater closed forever.I'm sorry that this happened to you and I hope you can get your gear sorted soon. Stay safe

I was living in Lismore in the 2017 flood and thankfully in Kyogle last year when this hit. I feel for you, nothing can prepare you for the devastation. I hope you are well on your way to recovery of your home. My camp ovens are still sitting out on the exs block in Drake where they went through the fire, I lost a lot then too. Recently went camping and got fired up again for dragging my teenagers out bush and teaching them to cook. Enjoying watching your videos, and maybe see you round the campfire one day, you never know 😊

Thank you, I live in Coraki now so not out of the flood zone by a long way lol. Those fires were nasty, a very bad year that one.

    Really feel for you mate.
Hawkes Bay has just been hit with the biggest flood in a century. A week later and I still have friends unaccounted for. ☹😢

Know the feeling, I hope they are found. It took a few weeks to account for everyone here because of the scale. I was about to enter a house expecting to find a body when I got a call saying they were in a shelter and was safe. They had been missing for a few weeks.

So sorry for the Hawkes Bay people and some other areas on the North Island in New Zealand. They copped it big.
